5 out of 5 stars Best of the Brothers Four.......2007-07-06

The Brothers Four were popular at the same time the Kingston Trio was big. I felt these guys were just as good and sometimes better. I still have the original LP of these recordings. Years later they appeared at a convention hall and my husband took me to see them perform. I took the LP album with me and after their performance, I asked them to autograph it. It's one of the highlights of my life.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!.......2006-05-08

The former reviewers have said it: The Brothers Four are simply fantastic! Let me quickly add two things about the debut album which impressed me. First, there are three songs with a slightly foreign flavor: The Zulu Warrior, Angelique-O and Superman. In this politically hypersensitive climate where everyone sees racial/religious/cultural/sexist slurs everywhere and turns to the government to mediate disputes which should be solved human to human, I think it's important to point out that they manage to have fun with cultural diversity while maintaining a gentle, warm and open attitude. No meanness of spirit whatsoever. So if you don't particularly like to hop onto either the bandwagon of false traditionalism or that of false universatism, you'll be delighted by what these guys do. Second, with Banua they really show how urbane and stylish they can be - which is probably why they're not your average folk band. Unique sound, right from the start.

Oh, yes, not to forget: this CD contains the two songs most tightly associated with The Brothers Four - Greenfields and The Green Leaves of Summer.

5 out of 5 stars a fantastic cd.......2000-05-10

I just received this album from Amazon.com and what a surprise. Brothers Four fans will delight in the songs on this double album but the sound quality is what blew me away. Sony has done an outstanding job with this album. You would never believe these songs were originally recorded in the '50s and '60s. It's truly amazing how good these songs sound. A great addition to any B4 fans collection!

5 out of 5 stars 2 Classic Brothers Four albums!.......1999-12-18

This CD is certainly a great one. TWO complete albums, on one CD. Their debut album, and B.M.O.C. The latter I listened to as a child, and have always remembered the songs. What a wonderful treat to have them again, in truly great sound. All the memories will come flooding back when you listen to these remarkable albums, by the equally remarkable Brothers Four. Their vocal harmonies, and instrument mastery, has no equal. Perhaps that is why they are STILL performing.

5 out of 5 stars Music I loved as a child and love as an adult.......1999-08-02

The Brothers Four's debut is one of five albums my sisters and I played over and over and over while I was a kid. Since reaching adulthood, I have been trying to re-acquire these lost treasures. I found The Brothers Four on used vinyl but to have it on CD is amazing. To have my own kids able to hear the four frat brothers is truly a blessing. I know this isn't much of a review, but I tried to make it a proper review -- singling out one song to recommend over others, and I couldn't. I thought about remarking on the banjo work, the infectiious spirit of the music, etc. But to make a long story short, the whole album is phenomenal. And I'm not just saying that because of some nostalgic feeling, since this was among my first exposures to music. As a child you love the music of your parents, then as a teen, you take the popular stuff. Later, you realize how right your parents were. Good music is good music. And The Brothers Four produced especially good music.
