5 out of 5 stars intensely erotic synergism.......2006-12-02

The synergistic energy in the combined musical talents of these members of this project are hard to surpass, by even the magic in lifelong band members who've played for decades. The messages of the songs, some as harsh as reality, carried on the wings of a dream... like the yin & yang of reality we face, , or rather, choose to face, & our escape into dreams...

It's a dichotomy, you love it or hate it, or intermittenlty love & then hate it (as you are drawn into it so deply you may temporarily wear it out - but rest assurred you always return!) Some have managed to love yet hate it simultaneously, but I've not been so vexed.

The title track is a lesson & would be a classic in pagan sages. YOu should listen to this, & then you should BE DANCING, in the OLNY GREEN WORLD, that's turning...around the sun...

There's fun to be shared here, and to make some aware nearly something for everyone with an open mind...

The only real disappointment, is that Charlie has disappearred, but I guess he's doing his own thing. I guess some magical moments just can't be repeated. So grateful for this blessing, but ...of course I wish there were more...

5 out of 5 stars SO GLAD it has been re-released!.......2006-10-15

This collection of songs (one of two Charlie Murphy cassettes I had in the early 80's) is top notch. Original songwriting. Political message of hope and dedication despite the devastating condition of our world. Excellent musicianship. Jamie Seiber is a world class cellist. Charlie Murphy's vocals are pleasant, in key, and energetic. There is a full band backing them and the excellent production quality shows. (Produced by a drummer from Santana).
This is a "Must Have" album for any Pagan, any Activist, anyone who has been touched by loss (I choose life is in response to the devastation of AIDS). See also "Canticles of Light" for songs and chants that are useful in protest or ritual settings.
What are you waiting for? Buy this CD!

5 out of 5 stars verey good.......2004-08-15

It is a verey good album all the music is well done

4 out of 5 stars Pop/Jazz sound with Environmental Message.......2003-09-22

This is an unusual CD but I really like it. The majority of the album conveys an environmental or clean living message with original songwriting and good music - kind of a mixture of pop/jazz. "Green World" is especially good - " We may be dancing on the only green world". It would be a five star album but there are two songs that keep me from putting the CD into a constant rotation.

I heard "Burning Times" on Public Radio and the song was so unique I had to order the CD because I figured it would be a very long time before I ever heard it again. "Burning Times" is written from the point of view of the Wiccans and is a rather melodramatic piece about the persecution of the 'witches' in Europe. It is very unique and the musical arrangement is very good but it is a little over the top to hear over and over again after the initial novelty wears off.

The only real strike against it is that in "Nightmare", the song starts off with the sound of a civil defense siren. Good effect for the message of the song but annoying if you like to leave a CD in a constant rotation.

Still, high points (four stars) for good originality and overall sound.

5 out of 5 stars Christy Moore is still going strong! Get to know him if you don't already!.......2006-05-02

All I can say is WOW! It looks like the fiery Christy Moore is still at it! There are beautiful songs on this album - a gentle meditation on nature, a compassionate look at what Irish women went through at the Magdalene Laundries (covering an excellent old Joni Mitchell song), a rollicking fisherman's song... Great album! I'm American (and a veteran!) and have to say that -- although there are plenty of people who won't like it -- I enjoyed every song on the album, including "America." He's right - we *should* stay where we live and stop invading countries that didn't hurt us. Politics aside, the whole CD is wonderful. I listened to it all day today while working on a particularly onerous task and it really did me a world of good. We were lucky enough to see Christy twice in concert this year - he is fantastic! Check out his new CD and DVD "Live at the Point 2006" - we saw one of the featured concerts and even though Christy is terrific live, I think that we got far more out of the songs on the DVD and CD. THANKS, Christy! Keep up the great work!!

4 out of 5 stars Christy Moore keeps getting better.......2006-01-23

Christy Moore's new CD is a terrific, stripped down collection of beautiful songs, perfectly balancing Christy's voice with Declan Sinnott's restrained yet perfect guitar accompaniment. The only true "foot-tapper" is Sixteen Fisherman Raving written by Wally Page, which in itself is worth the purchase of this disc, but the ballads Christy's selected from some of his favorite songwriters (such as Bob Dylan, Natalie Merchant Richard Thompson and Morrissey) are better than the originals in my opinion. Highlights include Beeswing, The Lonsesome Death of Hattie Carrol, Mercy, Magdalene Laundries and Morrissey's acerbic "America, I Love You". Declan's brooding slide guitar on Mercy is also well worth a listen.

"The Stonesouls' music brims with vitality and juvenile enthusiasm"
              Reviewer: Cord Weiss, Southeast Performer
The Stonesouls were an early-to-mid 90's punk-pop-rock "garage band" loosely based in Marietta, Georgia. The band was born in the summer of 1989 in the basement of Adam and Eric Leland's parents' house. With raw energy and a live feel, the songs on Burning Down sound like the bastard sober brother of The Replacements. In fact, they even cover the Mats' "Can't Hardly Wait." Burning Down leaves you with a feeling that, with a little more time, experience and patience, The Stonesouls could have really gone somewhere. Although several songs scattered throughout the CD need better production and overall sound, The Stonesouls' music brims with vitality and juvenile enthusiasm. Furthermore, the band's enthusiasm and humble disposition set them apart from most bands of this pretentious, flannel-loving, "please-take-me-seriously" musical era. Songs like "Girls Don't Lie" and "Something's Happening" have up-tempo beats and are filled with sing-along choruses and playful guitar hooks. Eric Leland's bass playing is tight and brother Adam's voice has a distinct timbre. Together, they write good, straight-ahead pop songs. One listen and you can hear all kinds of influences ranging from the Kinks to the Nerves to Paul Westerberg. For a lot of people, Burning Down will bring back youthful memories and Best of The Stonesouls just might provide the soundtrack to their angst-ridden teen years. You can always catch Adam with a cold beer in hand at pubs all around Atlanta. Inside the CD sleeve it reads, "Dedicated to Joey Ramone and George Harrison," which is just down right cool. I give this CD an A for effort.
