Excellent!!!.......2007-08-02
Excellent transaction. Would not hesitate to buy again from this seller. Product was delivered promptly and as described.
good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.
memories.......2007-02-22
This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended
TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

Customer Reviews:
Just Fantastic.......2007-01-03
When I bought this CD it was for a little bit of nostalgia - Those Were The Days. Since playing it once when it blew me away with the tracks and the memories, I have played it so often that if it were vinyl it would be worn out by now. If you liked Mary Hopkins then this is a fantastic selection of her music and well worth a place in your collection.
Good Music.......2006-10-31
This singer produced a couple of excellent songs in Those Were The Days and Goodbye. Both songs were penned by Paul McCartney when he couldnt seem to do a thing wrong.
She was signed up on the then new Apple lable. She sung those songs brilliantly, and they have a real special sound.
Those were the days was a reflection on the Beatles early days at the Tavern.
It was sung brilliantly ,and the music was brilliantly constructed.
Goodbye is another sensational song. This Cd has alot of other great songs such as Knock Knock.
Update 06 12 06
Now somebody corrected me,and it is appreciated, they said that Paul McCartney did not write Those Were The Days and that he only produced it.
It was a traditional melody with lyrics by an American Gene Raskin.
Perhaps it was just a coincidence that the song spoke of the Tavern.
From Old Times.......2006-03-13
I remembered listening to the title song when I was a teenager in the sixties, but I didn't know anything about the singer or other background. I got curious and found out that she was associated with the Beatles. I liked the song.
MARY HOPKIN SINGLES ALBUM.......2006-01-07
Compilation CD from Apple Records includes, what is likely the complete history of Hopkin singles through 1971, plus the previously unreleased, "When I Am Old One Day", which is a more charitable and conservative outlook of The Beatles' "When I'm 64". Signature song, the vodka in a Euro tavern ballad, "Those Were The Days", is here as is follow-up single, the McCartney/Lennon penned, lily o' the valley song, "Goodbye". The compilation works very well as a single listen of clean-cut folk pop, like Donovan Leach without the psychedelia, and Old English travelling virgin minstrel charm. "Temma Harbour", is a Sergio Mendes/Free Design-like plastic seascape of tanned bodies and white sea caps with popping Caribbean percussion, and "Water, Paper and Clay", is a lightweight, (the far extreme of blood, sweat, and tears), and solemn song prayer featuring a Joan Baez-like drum circle with echoing choir. Perhaps the most compelling track is the overly dramatic, but investing, "Let My Name Be Sorrow", a brooding Juliet mongering that swells like a storm into opera territory. The CD liner notes offer second hand, superficial filler on Hopkin's history.
Talent, charm and beauty shake hands!.......2005-12-28
Mary Hopkin was the typical sweet little girl with blond hair and beautiful blue eyes who engaged us with her angelical voice and astonishing lyricism. Two themes were more than enough to captivate the taste of the exigent audience of those ages. Those were the days and Goodbye. Go for this album and find one of the sweetest voices of the early seventies.

It's not opera; it's not a pop concert; it's not Broadway. It's all of these and none of them. Once you accept the fact that this sequel to the original blockbuster concert recording is less about music and more about entertainment and the power of musical personalities, you can appreciate what you're hearing as an event--phenomenal and bizarre, momentous and frivolous. This is an occasion to celebrate the voices and egos of three huge superstars, and to have fun listening as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras interact, bouncing lines off each other and playing to the overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. Much of the fun and flavor of the concert is dependent on seeing the action, though, and without the visuals you notice flaws in the singing much more. Domingo comes off as the more solid performer, and his voice is in far better shape than the other two. But if you crave big, high, and loud--and you don't take your opera too seriously--you'll love this disc. --David Vernier
Customer Reviews:
The Three Tenors has/have become a cottage industry, churning out one CD after another for every imaginable event and in every combination. This does not mean that the results are necessarily inferior but it does imply a commercial, layman's approach. And maybe this is better - spreading the joys of fine music to the masses. After all, where besides figure skating and cartoons do most people have a chance to even hear opera?
This event, like the first one in Rome, has a magnificent setting but, like Rome, the show was marketed mainly to the American audience. They still include the dreadful "Maria" with the hilarious pronunciation and even added "With a Song In My Heart" (or, as Carreras is wont to sing, "Weeth a Soeeng een My Haht"). Though some may deride the choice of encores, they were almost perfect. The Three Tenors, despite their prior celebrity, are creations of our culture of entertainment in ways that Caruso could only dream about.
Synopsis: Carreras stands out, Domingo substitutes volume for quality and Pavarotti soars when he doesn't have to.
The Most Enjoyable Evening IN !!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-05-01
I am not a regular Opera fan, hoever these THREE are the Best. their songs they sing together are SUPER!!! And the range of NOTES REACHED ARE REMARKABLE. tHE MIXTURE of songs is a treat for all, even if you are not an OPERA FAN!!!! Great show!!!!!!
Hmmmm...........2002-04-21
Not what I thought it was going to be. I like only about 4 of the 20+ tracks on this CD. I shoudl have just bought the DVD instead and actually watched them perform. Much, much more entertaining.
Last Encore of songs missing off C.D........2002-02-06
The Three Tenors are my absolute favourite singers. The 1994 Concert was undoubtedly their best in my view. I taped this live concert from the television, and have played and played and played it!! I also taped it on a cassette, however, when I bought the C.D. I was really disappointed that they did not include the last set of encore songs, which included O Sole a Mio (don't know if I've spelt that correctly), where Placido and Jose try and outdo Luciano!! It received such a fantastic reception from the crowd, (one of the many standing ovations), and really showed how much the Three Tenors seemed to enjoy performing the concert. How come this was not included? I don't know if it was on the Video because I play my own.
Many thanks for your time,
With kind regards,
Pam Sargeant.

Like 1996's Treasures, this covers collection by Dolly Parton might seem, on the surface, to be a gimmicky filler in her prestigious catalog of some of country's finest originals. Yet it's a vast improvement. Those Were the Days, largely bluegrass-inspired and featuring a plethora of famous duet and harmony partners, has more than a few sterling moments. And that's not just because songs like "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?," "Blowin' in the Wind," "Both Sides Now," and "Twelfth of Never" find her paired with the likes of Norah Jones, Lee Ann Womack, Nickel Creek, Judy Collins, and Keith Urban. If Parton takes John Lennon's "Imagine" too far over the top, she rescues Tommy James's overly processed "Crimson and Clover" from its original reverb hell, her understated banjo/Dobro/fiddle arrangement imbuing it with dignity. Other selections seem an obvious fit. "Me and Bobby McGee" (with a charmed Kris Kristofferson) resonates with longing and loss, while "If I Were a Carpenter," a duet with Joe Nichols, finds sensual heat smoldering above its solid musical underpinning. But the gem here is her rendering of "The Cruel War," on which Alison Krauss, Dan Tyminski, and Mindy Smith add feathery harmony vocals to Parton's gossamer lead--a performance so authentically poignant and heartfelt as to melt an Arctic ice cap. No matter how this odd collection hits you, give the Cantilevered One credit for being brave enough to tackle it, as well as extra kudos for coaxing two very special guests into the studio--Parton's old partner and one-time nemesis Porter Wagoner on the title track, and Yusuf Islam, a.k.a. Cat Stevens, who plays acoustic guitar on his own "Where Do the Children Play." You just never know what the Wigged Wonder will do next. --Alanna Nash

Album Description
A year in the making, this album of era-defining songs from the 1960s and 1970s is an astonishing collection of indispensable classics, performed in Dolly Parton's signature style with a top-notch list of friends.
Parton, who produced the album, invited several of the artists who wrote or made these songs famous to sing with her. Renowned musicians Roger McGuinn (of the Byrds), Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins, and Tommy James make appearances on Those Were the Days. She also asked recent chart-topping artists Norah Jones, Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Lee Ann Womack, Rhonda Vincent, Joe Nichols, and Alison Krauss to join her in the studio.
The Country Music Hall of Famer, Grammy winner, and Oscar nominee said, "I am really very proud of this album. I love all of these songs and all of the artists who performed, it just felt special from the moment the concept came to my mind. I knew I had to produce it myself in order to get all of my ideas across exactly as I wanted them to be presented. I really hope people enjoy it. I know I enjoyed making it."
Recorded in Nashville, Those Were the Days retains the bluegrass-inspired sound that earned her two Grammys and a new generation of fans for her previous four albums on Sugar Hill Records. The album includes a group sing featuring a menagerie of Grand Ole Opry legends. Capping off the album is Parton's unique version of "Imagine."
Customer Reviews:
Fun, sweet album..........2007-03-14
I REALLY thought that might hate this album, but I gave it a try because I'm a Dolly fan. I found her vocal performance to be heartfelt (as always), and the bluegrass arrangements were fun. I prefer Dolly's original songs, but I quite like this album anyway. Her voice still sounds great too. It's a bit cheesy, but I enjoyed it.
Should have been released in '72.......2007-03-01
The set list ain't subtle, but neither is Dolly Parton.
Slick and overemoting, Parton's heart is nevertheless in the right place - stop the war NOW. Most of this Folk & Woodstock stuff could have come out in '72 except I suspect Parton was pulling for Tricky Dick back then. Making amends - "Where Do The Children Play," "Turn Turn Turn," "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" and "Imagine" set the agenda. The guest stars are almost inaudible, alas; and, hey, was Joan Baez contacted for this album? - she would have been killer on "Blowin' In The Wind." Politics aside, the best track is "Me and Bobby McGee" with a playfully audible Kris Kristofferson on vocals, rocking and raving from start to finish with hoedown harmonica on a rip.
Lightweight, but kinda cool.
those were the days.......2007-02-01
I like Dolly Parton's choice of songs, and that she included an artist associated with an earlier release of each song with her rendition.
Unbelievably bad.......2007-01-30
One need only listen to Dolly's absolute abomination of Blowin' In the Wind to realize this is possibly the worst record of covers in existence. I love Dolly and I love the songs, but the combination is just awful. This CD should never have been made.
It's OK, but could have been better.......2006-11-02
When I read about this album in the paper, I was excited. I'm a Dolly fan, and thought it would be interesting to hear her covering 1960's songs that I love and grew up with. The best thing on this CD is the Twelfth of Never because it's done differently - uptempo and bluegrass. But here's what's wrong - this is not a duet album in spite of its stellar cameos. Those were the days has Mary Hopkin on it - it would have been so much fun to hear the 2 of them trading verses - instead poor Mary is buried so far down in the mix you can't even hear her. Where do the children play, a delicately beautiful albeit depressing song by Cat Stevens in it's original incarnation, is redone here with..you guessed - Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), but again his voice is buried so far down in the mix along with a chorus of 1000 that you can't even hear him. Crimson & Clover, an LP I once owned as a young teenager is sung with Tommy James. Can you hear him? Hardly. Worst of all, Dolly did an overly bombastic version of the terribly over-recorded Imagine. To be honest with you, the song has been played so much over the years it has lost it's meaning and worn out it's welcome. Why did she have to pick Imagine? This would have been a much more enjoyable listen if the production had been more spartan. Yes, without the gospel choruses etc., I would have enjoyed it more. Instead it comes across like a Shania Twain CD, and that's not a good thing. If you're looking for Dolly at her best, try The Winning Hand from the 1980's which also includes some great tunes and DUETS with Kris, and WIllie and Brenda Lee.

Cream was the first of three supergroups spawned by the Yardbirds' three stellar axmen (they preceded the original Jeff Beck Group by a year and Jimmy Page's Led Zeppelin by two). The trio of guitarist Eric Clapton, bassist Jack Bruce, and drummer extraordinaire (and band founder) Ginger Baker earned a reputation for fiery live performances rife with improvised blues-based jams (epitomized by Willie Dixon's "Spoonful") that could last half an hour. Two of this set's four discs are devoted to live Cream, showcasing prowess and interplay so powerful as to overshadow its occasional lapses into self-indulgence. Clapton admirers more familiar with his latter-day laid-back persona may be shocked at the incendiary musician showcased on these live cuts. Cream progressed over the course of its three and a half studio records (included here in their entirety). Electric blues evolution was their forte, but they also captured sounds that were moody and acoustic-tinged ("As You Said," "Passing the Time"), music-hall-influenced ("Mother's Lament," "Wrapping Paper"), and progressively poetic ("Deserted Cities of the Heart," "Pressed Rat and Warthog"). --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
the greatest album ever.......2007-08-01
If you are a cream fan, and who's not, this album is just for you. It has every song that cream ever recorded, plus previous unreleased tracks. For ages 10-90!!!!! My whole family shares it.
An Overrated Band.......2007-07-24
I remeber liking Cream back in the old days when I first started listening to rock & roll music. I'm not saying they're a lousy band. Far from it. They could be very good, especially as musicians. Listening to them now, however, I must say that they don't date well.
I say they're overrated because their records aren't really very good. Give a listen to them. They have some good songs, probably the best being N.S.U. They had a great sound, especially on their first records. But they weren't great song writers. Take their hit "White Room": "In the White Room-With black curtains-Near the station", etc. Dumb lyrics without much of a tune, though backed up with excellent musicianship. Take "Politician", a completely tuneless tune with more dopey, clichéd lyrics; a lame attempt to join in the protest music of the period.
This CD includes many live recordings. I don't know how impressive their live shows were if you were there in person (and maybe under the influence of drugs), but on record, they come across as long, boring, meandering jams.
I still like Cream. They're OK. However they don't live up to their reputation or to the reputation of the individual members of the band. If you're a big fan, buy this set coz it has everything you need or want. I have it, but only ever listen to about a quarter of the cuts, if even that much. If you're not a true believer, maybe there is a more limited selection out there that will serve you better.
All Cream no fat.......2007-03-17
Got this unexpectedly for my birthday and what a happy surprise it was! During their two years together Cream recorded four studio albums. We get all four studio albums here and the two posthumous live albums plus rarities all in one great package. The only thing missing that would make this collection complete is the live BBC sessions and the live album version of "NSU" (this is a different take). We get demos for "We're Going Wrong", "You Make Me Feel", "Hey Now Princess", "SWLABR", "Weird of Hermiston" (which Jack Bruce recorded for his solo album), "The Clearout" (again, a solo album), "The Coffee Song" (originally available on the European version of "Fresh Cream")as well as a commercial the band recorded for Falstaff Beer, a previously unreleased version of "Lawdy Mama" (which evolved into "Strange Brew") and a live version of "Sunshine of Your Love" from the Glen Campbell Show.
These are all the stereo mixes. The only way to get the mono mixes for some of these tracks is to buy the two disc reissues (which also has many of the bonus tracks here as well as selections from--but not the complete--BBC Sessions). Sound quality is extremely good with nice presence, clarity although the remaster sounds a bit goosed and with a little more compression (meaning these aren't "flat" transfers). There's also an alternate version of "Blue Condition" that isn't available here but otherwise this is the cream of the crop. While this isn't the best sounding of the Cream releases, the live tracks sound better here than ever before. The studio tracks sound extremely good as well although reportedly not quite as good as the Steve Hoffman mastered limited edition gold discs from a couple of years ago.
The set breaks up all the studio songs on the first two discs and live tracks on the last two discs. The booklet has interviews done when this was re-released. The sound of the set is very good and it has been remastered (someone commented here that it hadn't been--that's not true).
Jack Bruce's unique, jazz influenced bass playing mixes well with Clapton's blues inflected guitar playing and Ginger Baker's polyrhythm drumming style. These guys (along with Hendrix and his group)set the stage for power trios that would come later as diverse and different as the Police. Clapton sounds possessed during the live tracks playing amazing solos while Baker and Bruce pound away.
This is a terrific set. I'd probably recommend the single disc 20th Century Masters or the band's first (or second)album(s)for folks just getting into the band. After that, dig into this rich, varied set that covers the band's all too brief but glorious career. I've given this set four stars because various albums received between 5 and 3 based on their musical content.
Cream - Farewell Concert
AN ASTOUNDING MUSICAL OUTPUT IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. CREAM, ROCKS FIRST POWER BAND..................2007-03-01
A beautiful box set that includes all of Creams four studio albums on disc 1,2 in chronological order. Disc 3,4 covers Creams live performances. The live performances are worth this box set alone. I agree with another reviewer of this Cream box set, saying these live Cream performances make Jimi Hendrix and his band sound very mellow. The remastering of this box set is fine. The reason why I say that is because in its 1995 release "The Very Best of Cream" was over remastered and was released 2 years before this box set. The sound quality of the single cd release "The Very Best of Cream" was very tinny and low sounding almost muffeled. Before the release of "Those Were the Days" Polydor realized this error and in turn, did'nt over remaster the soon to be released 1997 Cream box set. The result for the remastering of "Those Were The Days" is a much more basier and fuller sound than the 1995 "The Very Best Of Cream ". I disliked the sound so much on the "The Very Best Of Cream" cd that I gave it away, and finally got "Those Were The Days" box set. Remember these Cream recordings were in the early days of stereo, as mono was still used in the recording studio throughout the 1960s. There is no BBC Sessions but you could always pick up "BBC Sessions" and add it to this box set. The 48 page booklet is very informative as it contains a wealth of information and photos of this legendary band. "Those Were the Days" is worth the money because you get all the Cream studio albums and live material. Buy all the studio albums (cds) seperate and you would pay alot more. "Those Were the Days" is worth buying, it is all you need, to own all of Creams legendary 1960s musical output............
They don't make bands like this anymore!.......2007-02-18
Remarkable overview of the recorded legacy of Cream, arguably the greatest rock band of all time.
Cream, along with such groups as the Jimi Hendrix Experience, were fortunate to have come together at a period of time (mid-'60's) when a number of things were converging to create what eventually became labelled "heavy metal." By the mid'60's, sound amplification was becoming more and more sophisticated and capable of distortion-free sound at high decibel levels. Also, effects devices such as the wah-wah pedal, fuzz-tone, and the use of Leslie speakers were being perfected. Often a guitar effects device would be created and shipped to a store just as a guitarist (Hendrix, Clapton, etc.) was perusing the store looking for the next big thing in effects devices. The virtuousity of bands like Cream, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Jeff Beck Group, and Led Zeppelin (interestingly, all bands that spawned from the crucible of the Yardbirds) had never been seen before in the rock 'n' roll business.
"Those Were the Days" is a testament to the most creative period in rock 'n' roll history. We will never see such as band as Cream again. We are fortunate to have this box set to remind us of what we're missing.

On this particular cd, all the songs are among my fovorite songs. The orchestra never sounded better. What a great thrill it is for me to listen to this cd time and time again. This cd is one that you should never get tired of. Please buy this cd and discover the joy of this beautiful music.

The CD Brotherly Love/Those Were the Days.......2006-02-25
This is an excellent CD! Well worth any price you pay for it.
Dean Dillon doesn't sing a bad song. What a talent!
Dillon/Stewart Duets.......2006-01-31
I personally believe Dean Dillon and Gary Stewart put out the very best "get drunk and party" songs I've ever heard. And, you get a majority of them on this CD. I especially like Body Shop and She Sings Amazing Grace. Trust me; you won't have to worry about falling asleep listening to these songs. Once I heard them I did my best to get my hands on everything each had done, and put together a pretty good collection. I listen to them regularly when I just want to throw a few brews down and smile!
