Method Actor is to Eva Cassidy's oeuvre what Get That Feeling is to Jimi Hendrix's index of recordings. Never heard of Get That Feeling? Most Hendrix fans haven't either--nor did Hendrix, for that matter. As with Hendrix, Cassidy's posthumous success has inspired a good deal of digging around for vault material. Method Actor originally came out on vinyl in 1988. The work of pedestrian lite rockers, the 10-song set captures Cassidy in the very early stages of a career than would be cut short a mere eight years later. Occasionally the singer's nascent interpretive skills shine through. The sweeping "Look into My Eyes" benefits from Cassidy's soaring vocal. More often then not, however, this is the work of journeymen who happened to cross paths with a star in the making. Completists will find bits and pieces of these first-time-on-CD recordings of interest (the cover art consists of drawings by the singer), but Cassidy enthusiasts will find this sound foreign to the Cassidy they know and love, and will move on, as she did. --Steven Stolder

If you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all...Because for this album only good is the true opinion..You can compare Eva and the recordings of Method Actor to Fleetwood Mac and even Heart on this one..!
Stay and How will it end is incredible ..When the word of Method
Actor album spread among her fans, requests for copies came from far and wide.
The original LP was selling for upwards of $500.00
on the auction site EBay. It was then decided that the recording should be made available to any of her fans who wanted it, without forcing them to spend a small fortune to get it. It is quiet different from her later recordings and I believe it is all within the eye of the beholder. I only wish I could tell her just how wonderful and beautiful her music was,one can only hope she knew befor she passed.

4 out of 5 stars You should have this one..........2006-02-23

This album is not perfect but every fan of Eva's should have this one in his/her collection, and listen to it...It is not a collection of covers like most of the rest of the stuff that is out there; these are all original songs featuring Eva very early in her career, not because she is Eva but because the songwriter felt she was a natural for the lead. All that we love about Eva is evident here: the power, perfect pitch, emotion and ineffable sweetness. Some of the cuts are a little too "new agey" for my taste (too much synthesizer), but that is not Eva's doing. And, without going back and listening to all her other discs, I think this is the only one where we get to hear Eva do backup vocals as well as lead!
All in all, this is a must-have because it helps to round out the picture.

Look at the other 1 star reviews for this CD and you'll know the truth: this CD is horrible! I am an obsessed Eva fan - I love all of her CDs and I listen to them frequently and regularly. When I ordered this CD I was extremely excited to listen to it. Instead of immediately listening to it, I waited for a time when I could really enjoy it - my long morning commute in the car. Well, I was able to get through the first song - her voice sounds nice and it has a good bluesy sound. But then the second one came on and I thought, "OK, don't worry, it will get better." The third song did not relieve my worries, nor did the fourth, the fifth, and so on, until I finally had to take the CD out of the player and fling it across the car in utter disgust. These songs are totally cheeseball - they're big hair 80's songs - and they do not compliment Eva's voice quality or her vocal range in the slightest. On some of them she actually sounds out of tune, which I didn't think could be possible. But with songs this bad, even Eva couldn't make them work. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I would have rather bought a duplicate copy of any of her CDs than this piece of garbage.

This cd is okay, but I didn't like this as much as Eva's earlier songs.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful addition to collection.......2005-05-30

As this material came from the start of her career it is more demonstrative of where she was going to rather than where she was when her career came to it's tragic end. The CD is worth having for more than just the purpose of completing your Eva Cassidy collection. I did enjoy it very much.
