Customer Reviews:
Great Album!!!.......2007-05-31
I am a true neo-soul, R&B type of music fan...I never would have thought that I would love this CD so much. We started to play it during nap time at the child care facility where I work, and it just grew on me. I really never listened to folk, but I appreciate good muscianship and REAL musical talent. This CD is great when you need to tone things down and chill out. The songs tell beautiful stories and is well worth a try.
A must for those who appreciate beautiful music!.......2007-02-06
Putumayo Series of CD's from around the world makes you feel alive and energized! Whenever I listed to their cd's, I feel that I'm in the country and in that location and all I want to do is dance!! A true inspiration and you won't be disapointed. They've selected the best piecs and I'm always amazed on how they put it together so beautifully. GO ahead if you want to travel without the ticket prices, it's well worth it~
Captivating collection.......2006-11-10
I am hoping to add my voice to those encouraging you to buy this cd, and also providing a review to counteract that of the guy below who gave this only 1 star, and then wrote how he liked it! :o)
Seriously, the songs on this album all are different in their own ways, yet work together to form not only a good compilation of individual songs, but a strong album in its own right. If you're like me, you'll find yourself easily listening to the whole thing straight through, not simply picking out random songs here and there. There are some well known artists, such as Patti Griffin and Natalie Merchant, and several lesser known who were a joy to discover.
I smile when I hear "Shirt," a catchy little number I danced with our newborn the first weeks after he came home from the hospital. "Boots of Spanish Leather" is a great cover of the Bob Dylan classic. "She Don't Like Roses" is a more somber number, but a good one. And "Jubilee" is another one good for dancing!
Give this one a try. In addition to some great music, maybe you'll in turn discover one of the premier "world music" labels out there, Putumayo, which has some great compilations of foreign music, but also has enough sense to mine the rich musical landscape of the United States, with this and several other compilations of regional American music among their world catalog.
A Smooth Ride in Contemporary Folk.......2006-04-09
I ran into Putumayo Presents: American Folk while browsing through a CD kiosk; ever since I put those hulky headphones to preview it I've been hooked. With its smooth transitions, the variation of folk artists provides an album which can easily be taken in as a whole. Pick up the CD with the intention to throw it in your computer or player and let the music soak in--take it easy. I really can't say you should preview every artist and decide if you want to grab it or not; it seems its intentions aren't promoting folk artists, but just giving the listener a good time.
This is feel-good music at its best.

Not a folk afcienado by nature, they wit of the lyrics grew on me as I listened more and more. And it is truly a disc I return to time and time again. Take the chance and get!
