A bit ho-hum.......2007-03-23
Only really stunning good song is "Guantanamera." A lot to pay for one song but it's the only way to get the Sandpipers version.
The Sandpipers: cool tones and gentle rhythms.......2007-01-16
The Sandpipers, with their cool tones and gently pulsating rhythms, remained successful even when the principle focus of the music industry changed to rock and roll. They possessed to ability to touch hearts and minds with their songs; and they sang flawlessly in English, Spanish, French and Italian. Wow.
The CD consists of all the tracks from two of their record albums entitled Guantanamera and The Sandpipers. The CD begins with the classic Latin song "Gauntanamera." I agree with the reviewer who writes that they deliver this song flawlessly and their rendition of this song alone is worth the price of admission. Other very well done Spanish songs on this CD include "La Bamba" and "Enamorado." The Sandpipers do an especially good job of singing "Michelle" in both Spanish and French. Impressive!
"Stasera Gli Angeli Non Volano (For The Last Time)" is performed very well in Italian by The Sandpipers; the musical arrangement is beautiful. Indeed, their enchanting vocals and arrangements make the classic children's song "Inch Worm" evolve into an infamous masterpiece. Bravo!
Other touching songs on this CD include "Try To Remember" from The Fantasticks; "Strangers In The Night;" "The French Song" and "I'll Remember You."
The quality of the sound is excellent and the liner notes provide copies of the reverse of the record album jackets for both record albums. There are sharp pictures of The Sandpipers as well.
The Sandpipers made an indelible mark on the music industry that even rock and roll combined with time cannot erase. Their music remains soothing, passionate and pensive after all these years. Fans of the oldies, 1960s "mood music" and classic pop vocals will cherish this CD.
One of My Favorite CDs.......2006-11-25
I first discovered The Sandpipers in the mid to late '60s and fell in love with their soft, harmonious melodies. It's amazing how effortlessly (and beautifully) they transition from English to French to Spanish. On this blended CD, I love every song but particularly 'For Baby', (The Sandpipers were singing Denver songs before the rest of the world even knew his name), 'The French Song', 'What Makes You Dream Pretty Girl?', 'It's Over', 'Inch Worm' and 'Michelle'... and who else could make 'Louie, Louie' sound like a love song? It's wonderful!
An Underated Group and who is Pamela Ramcier?.......2006-11-11
I am glad compilations of the Sandpipers finally have made it to digital. I own 6 of their LPs (true vinyl). The only reason I did not give this double album 5 stars is because it would have been a fantastic double set (5+ stars) if they had combined the albums "Guantamamera" and "Softly". The LP "Softly" is solid if you are a Sandpipers fan and contains three awesome songs Suzanne, To Put Up With You, and I think the their most beautiful song of all Cancion De Amor (Wanderlove). I am in full agreement with Hess, in why did they not include their female vocalist, which was probably a big mistake. I also wish Pamela Ramcier (and or possibly the other female vocalist(s)) had been given bigger parts. Some of their best songs often included the beautiful contrast of Pamela's voice with her male counterparts. In Cancion De Amor (Wanderlove) she comes in about two-thirds the way through the song weaving a hauntingly beautiful melody. To answer the question is the blonde woman on the album cover "The Sandpipers" Pamela Ramcier, I wish I new. However, of the 6 LPs I have in my collection, four ("The Sandpipers Softly", "Guantanmera", "The Sandpipers", and "Misty Roses, the Wonder of you") have photos of women on the cover, and I believe they are all different. Hopefully someone can solve the mystery and come up with a photo of Pamela Ramcier.

Sand, sea, sun..........2005-04-15
I was about 16 or 17 when I first heard this album. It became one of the standards that a bunch of us played all the time as we hung together on a beach in Jamaica. It was the perfect soundtrack to those halcyon days, and the memories now are sweet and aching. Just seeing that cover brings back such strong impressions. I do wish someone would re-release that record. I'd buy it in a second.
SANDPIPERS - A JEW OF THE 60'S.......2003-08-02

"GUANTANAMERA" THE SANDPIPERS.......2001-12-05
This great classic album by The Sandpipers (their very best) was released during the summer of 1966. This was the album and version which made "GUANTANAMERA" known and acclaimed worldwide.
What had been until then a virtually unknown (abroad) cuban "guajira" song, became a milestone hit overnight. This great recording started a Guantanamera revival in its native land Cuba and its original creator Joseito Fernandez came out of the "mothballs" and became Cuba's most acclaimed artist, recording several versions of that great song, one of which its lyrics read as follows: "Guajira Guantanamera, hoy por el mundo admirada", which translates, "Guajira Guantanamera now admired the world over". "Admired" it was, it became the top charting hit of 1966, carrying well into the next 3 years or so.
Going back to our Sandpipers classic album, all other songs in
this album also became top hits. The acquisition of this CD is a must for all collectors. The original album cover was reproduced for this great CD, which increases its collectible value. Don't miss it!
The French Song.......2000-04-09
Can anyone help me identify the album from which the Sandpipers sung The French Song? That's the album I like to see on CD.

Hauntingly beautiful from start to finish.......1999-12-22
GUANTANMERA was issued on vinyl as A&M LP 117 in mono and SP 4117 stereo back in 1966. The title song and "Louie Louie" (in Spanish) were both hit singles. The performances on each track are memorable. These guys know how to draw the in the listener. And "Angelica" has to be the saddest song ever sung. Now I would like to see the remaining Sandpipers studio albums come out on CD, maybe as 2-for-1 reissues. Those include SANDPIPERS (A&M SP 4125), MISTY ROSES (SP 4135), SOFTLY (SP 4147), THE WONDER OF YOU (SP 4180), COME SATURDAY MORNING (SP 4262) and A GIFT OF SONG (SP 4328).
