    What is Young Love?

"Los Angeles good times tequila rock bands Austin day cruiser van smoke machines tour trafalgar Hollywood oakwoods why are dudes wearing makeup everyone knows everyone Brooklyn night clubs whiskey white suits bright lights Miami island cutting rugs London finishing the record"

"That's the last two or three years of my life, with a bit of childhood thrown in," says Dan Keyes, frontman and musical tour de force behind Young Love. Not only does that word collage work as a history of the group, but it also serves as a good primer on the band's sound, which can only be described as "now, but different."

Had never heard of these guys until i saw the open for erasure and was very surprised. Great energy and memorable songs to dance or tap your foot to. Plan to hopefully catch these guys again soon and will definately be buying their stuff as it becomes avail.

This CD is almost a guilty pleasure. It's a total pop album and the lyrics at times are cheesy and yet I can't stop listening to it.

    5 out of 5 stars young loveeeeee.......2007-05-18

Hi! I''m from spain, and I have met Young love because my brother like this tipe of music. the first song that i hear from Young love was Too young too fight it, i love this hit!! but discotech is better. well, bye and sorry, my english is too bad!! LorENa

4 out of 5 stars disliked it at first...and then LOVED it .......2007-03-29

"Discotech" and "Find a New Way", the more danceable songs, were my favorites. My second favorites were "Closer to You", "Close you eyes" and some other more acoustically clean songs. Mr. Keyes does his best work on the acoustic numbers. However, songs like "Take it or Leave it" and "Tell Me", had to grow on me (although, the song "Give Up" still feels like overkill). This album is great, considering that many genres ( r&b, alternative, dance/electronica, indie...) are covered on it--which is pretty impressive. If you want something that is a little bit of everything, Too Young to Fight It is your best bet.

    5 out of 5 stars incredible!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-17

you know i try to find a new band to add to my list once a year and the beginning of this year sucked but then about three weeks ago i was browsing new releases and i saw young love and i thought what is this. and then i sampled it and 30 minutes later i owned it. i completly love this band the whole vibe of the music is unlike anything ive heard in a while. they are by far the best ive heard this year. i love the song "too young to fight it" it has such an upbeat feel i just gotta dance to it and i must say the lyrics rock ! so if you dont by any other cd buy this one its completly worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars with a song in my heart/pal joey sound tracks.......2007-03-31

I actually was so pleased to see a CD available because I have been longing for the movie "with a song in my heart" to become available on VHS and then on DVD, and it never has, so now at least I can enjoy the songs from the movie. The cast track from Pal Joey was just an added bonus.

5 out of 5 stars With A Song In My Heart CD.......2007-03-19

I saw the film, "With A Song In My Heart" when I was twelve or thirteen years old and have wanted the sound track for many years. As an impressionable teenager in the 1950s, I have collected over time many of the films from that time on VHS or DVD, to satisfy my memories of the period. I regret that this particular film is not available on VHS or DVD, but, this CD is the next best choice. It is really enjoyable to hear the richness and depth of the voice of Jane Froman, who was one of the best singers of the time. I can still recall many scenes from the film and this CD revives the memories so well.

4 out of 5 stars A Jane Froman double feature........2006-09-16

This DRG CD pairs two recordings starring Jane Froman.

WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Susan Hayward played Jane Froman in the film but Froman herself dubbed the vocals. This album of songs was originally issued as a 10" Lp. None of the tracks are taken from the film: They are all studio re-recordings. Later, Capitol re-released it as a 12" LP with two extra songs added. It is that expanded [program included here. Froman is in great voice, though the orchestrations are overly lush and string heavy. Still, the songs include such standards as "It's a Good Day", "Get Happy", and "Embraceable You" making for an enjoyable mini-concert.

    PAL JOEY

Capitol's cast album of the 1952 revival has long been a collector's item. The original Lp was deleted in 1960 and did not resurface until Broadway Angel released it on CD (briefly) in 1993. As the stars of the revival Harold Lang and Vivienne Segal had already made a studio cast album for Columbia - an album that helped inspire the revival - they were unable to re-record their songs for Capitol, and the label turned to Jane Froman and Dick beavers to fill in. The revised orchestrations sound dated now, but here is a chance to hear Elaine Stritch singing "Zip" and to enjoy the lusty voice of Helen Gallagher early in her career.

In the end it's the WITH A SONG IN MY HEART selections (making their debut on CD here) that make this CD worthwhile. For PAL JOEY the studio recording (available from SONY) is preferable, however if one is so inclined you can assemble your own cast album of the '52 revival by combining tracks from both releases.

    4 out of 5 stars "Pal Joey's" Pal.......2006-07-30

While the legubrious and over-orchestrated songs from the film "With a Song in My Heart" are typical of their era (and Jane Froman's stilted renditions are what once stood for emoting) the "Pal Joey" cast recording is an absolute delight. The orchestrations are bouncy and jazzy in a way that has long been forgotten, and the performances (except for the aforementioned Ms. Froman, whose Vulgnarian renditions are at times quite disconcerting, and who hits the sonic notes like lazer beems but misses the emotional ones by a country mile) are exceptional. Helen Gallagher deserved her Tony from the evidence of this recording, with Elaine Stritch not far behind her. But the overall impact surpasses any recording of "Joey" including the historic one that lead to this revival. There's energy, intensity and a whole lot of fantastic song writing (leave it to to Rogers and Hart) to satisfy any musical theater fan. A must have for anyone who loves "Old Broadway."

4 out of 5 stars another great twofer from DRG.......2004-01-21

Jane Froman was one of the top vocalists of her era. Froman's greatness is celebrated in this new 2-on-1 album, which comprises the film soundtrack of WITH A SONG IN MY HEART as well as the 1952 Broadway revival cast album of PAL JOEY.

WITH A SONG IN MY HEART was the life story of Jane Froman, with the lovely Susan Hayward in the lead role. Froman herself supplied the singing for the film. Numbers include "It's a Good Day", the bittersweet and humorous "They're Either Too Young or Too Old", "Blue Moon", "Get Happy", "Tea for Two" and "I'm Thru with Love".

The 1952 Broadway revival of PAL JOEY was the result of the huge success of a studio album released by Columbia the year before (which featured Vivienne Segal reprising her original role of Vera and Harold Lang as Joey). Segal and Lang headlined the new revival with Helen Gallagher (SWEET CHARITY, HAZEL FLAGG) as Gladys Bumps and Elaine Stritch (ON YOUR TOES, GOLDILOCKS) as reporter Melba Snyder.

Having already recorded their roles for the Columbia album, Segal and Lang saw little need in re-recording them for the revival album on the Capitol label. Instead, the roles of Vera and Joey were covered by Jane Froman and Dick Beavers.

The cast album suffers on many levels. First, the absence of Segal and Lang is quite distracting, and secondly the new Overture can't even compare with the scintillanting original.

The Columbia studio album is the version to buy in addition to this, though both albums have their strong and weak points. As per usual, Elaine Stritch brings her impressive and formidable comic timing to the fore in the show-stopping "Zip", and Helen Gallagher's silvery voice is perfect for "That Terrific Rainbow".

A fine addition to your collection. [DRG 19054]

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Album.......2007-03-15

Many folks have been thrown off scent by the cartoon and movie stuff, and not appreciated this album for what it is. It's got some really terrific songs on here that I never tire of hearing. "The Chequered Flag" at the end of the original album is triumphant, like Ian's vision of himself as an old man, looking back at the successes of his life and facing death without fear or regret.

Ian Anderson loved to toss red herrings and play games with his listeners -- don't be a sucker and think there is anything haphazard or lightweight about this album.

Well, I will admit "Quiz Kid" stinks. ;)

5 out of 5 stars Tull's underrated concept album about an aging rocker STILL HOLDS UP over 30 years later.......2007-02-13

English art rockers Jethro Tull's ninth studio album Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll Too Young To Die was released in May of 1976 here in the US and in April, 1976 in the UK.
The album is seen as the "dark horse" of the Tull catalog. Some fans loved it and some hated it. I tend to fall in the "LOVE IT" category.
The album was the band's first album with new bass player John Glascock (whom replaced Jeffrey Hammond who retired after 1975's Minstrel In the Gallery). Glascock joined Tull mastermind/singer/songwriter/flute player Ian Anderson, guitarist Martin Barre, drummer Barriemore Barlow and keyboard player John Evan in time to record an album to a proposed musical which Ian decided not to pursue in the end. The album is a concept album (as illustrated in the cartoon in the album's gatefold) about a rock star named Ray whose career went into obscurity and tried to fit in to society only for his career to resurrect at album's end. This theme is still relevant today as many from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s generations are trying to feel young again by listening to classic rock, old school metal and grunge on the radio. I'm already trapped in the 1970s considering I am 31!
We open the album to a teaser intro of the album's title cut which then gives way into the superb rocker "Quizz Kid" which features excellent guitar work from Barre and has our hero Ray becoming a game show winner. Next is another great rocker "Crazed Institution" which tells the tale of the glam rock types whom were now the rage. The musicianship is excellent on this track (and the rest of the album is as well). Next is the intricate acoustic guitar number called "Salamander" which is a great piece about a girl that Ray meets. Next is the great bluesy-rocker "Taxi Grab" which is about Ray and his girl he met in the taxi. The track has some tasty guitar work by Barre and harmonica work and vocals by Anderson. Barre and Glascock play here like they were on fire. We end the first half with the ballad "From a Dead Beat To An Old Greaser" with excellent multi-tracked harmonies by Anderson and an excellent sax solo by David Palmer (who would become Tull's second keyboard player in time for this album's tour) and guitar solo by Barre. This is about Ray and a fellow old greaser who meet at a pub whilst Ray waits for his date.
The second half kicks off with the acoustic "Bad Eyed and Loveless" which describes Ray's anger for being stood up. We follow with the great rocker "Big Dipper" which has a very infectious beat supplied by barlow and a superb flute riff by Anderson mimicked by Evan and Barre. Next is the album's title cut which is the album's most famous track and a great piece and tells of Ray's motorcycle ride and crash. Next is the superb "Pied Piper" which has Ray emerging from his coma to find out he is in popularity again. We end the album with the beautiful "The Chequered Flag (Dead Or Alive)". This piece is probably the best Tull album closer and Ray seeing that his life is back on the upswing again.
Too Old to Rock n Roll: Too Young to Die initially reached #14 on the Billboard album charts in 1976 (making it Tull's lowest chart appearance since 1969's Stand Up). Also, this is the only 1970s era Tull album not to be certified Gold. However, the material has withstood the test of time unlike some albums from 1976.
In 2002, this underrated gem was re-released with TWO bonus tracks. First is the acoustic "A Small Cigar" which is hilarious but great. "Strip Cartoon" is also a great track as well.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

4 out of 5 stars Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand?.......2006-07-27

Some Tull fans may think I'm crazy, but I really enjoy this album. This has never been a very popular record, but plain and simple the musicianship is excellent overall, ranging from the intricate accoustic guitar intro on "Salamander", to the sing-along chorus of "Big Dipper" which has a very infectious beat supplied by Barrie Barlow. This was the first Tull album to feature talented bass guitarist Jon Glasscock, who really had a unique style and came up with some unique bass lines if you listen closely. I think my favorite track is the last one (Chequered Flag) which has some really touching lyrics and breathtaking moments. For anybody who has lived in a big city, then you will chuckle at the amusing lyrics on "Taxi Grab." Overall, this is a concept album about a 1950s greaser trying to reclaim his youthful days...a theme that is still relevant today as many from the 60s and 70s generation (my parents included) are trying to feel young again by listening to classic rock on the radio. Oh well, I guess I'll be doing the same thing when I turn 50! This record is definitely underrated in the Tull discography and the extra tracks on this cd are worth hearing. The strip cartoon inside is also pretty funny. Pick this one up. It's grand!

4 out of 5 stars Much, much better than I was led to believe.......2006-06-18

This 1976 album has been criticized by a number of prog fans, including certain "academically-oriented" progressive rock writers. To tell you the truth, I am not entirely clear as to why this album is criticized and with such vigor. It is actually pretty darn good and initiates a period where some fairly incredible music was being cranked out by Mr. Anderson and company.

With respect to the lineup at this point, Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond left the group after Minstrel in the Gallery (1975), leaving the band without a bassist. The late John Glascock replaced Jeffrey and the tone that John gets out of his Fender Musicman bass is very tight and punchy and the interplay with virtuoso drummer Barriemore Barlow is truly something to behold. Speaking of Barriemore, his drumming during the mid - late 1970's was simply jaw dropping - those of you that need proof are urged to check out his solo on "Conundrum" from the live Bursting Out album (1978). As such, his performances on Too Old to Die: Too Young to Rock n' Roll are excellent, although he does not play on every track. Come to think of it, the performances by all of the band members are all fairly inspired and Ian even plays a solo on a harmonica along with some semi-jazzy riffs on the saxophone. In addition to the core members, string and brass arrangements are featured here and there and Steeleye Span vocalist Maddy Prior provides backing vocals on the title track.Personally, I feel that the subtle changes in instrumentation were a nice addition.

The music on this album is characteristic of the blend of acoustic textures and thunderous prog that started with Minstrel in the Gallery and culminated with albums like Songs from the Wood (1977) and Heavy Horses (1978). One other thing worth mentioning is that the use of melodies increased dramatically on this album and they are actually very nice.

The remastering is superb and features incredibly good sound quality along with loads of band photos, liner notes, pretty good bonus tracks, and restored cover/gatefold art.

All in all, I found this album to be very enjoyable and certainly not nearly as bad as people say it is. Recommended along with the excellent Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses.

3 out of 5 stars Some good songs ,some really bad ones.......2006-06-14

Anderson has always tried to re-invent his sound. BUT, with this one the style was so different borderline,Broadway musical ,almost silly. The playing is great, when the other guys are allowed to display their talents. I'm sure Barlowe has a great time playing, because he hardly didn't.

Only a few bad for these chaps, this one is just not their best, but their most "Adventurous "shall we say.

Following hot on the heels of their enormously successful collaboration for The Lion King, Elton John and Tim Rice have once again culled their talents to create another Disney contemporary musical, based this time on Verdi's opera Aida. The album, recorded by some of the biggest talents of pop, country, and R&B, features songs from the stage show, which recounts the well-known tale of a love triangle further complicated by slavery, royalty, and the armed forces. John duets to great effect with country crooner LeAnn Rimes, the enchanting Janet Jackson, and the lovely Lulu of To Sir with Love fame. Lush and lively, the soundtrack hits a hoot of a (decidedly not highbrow) high point with the infectious pop of the Spice Girls warbling the merits of undergarments on "My Strongest Suit" ("Always wear underwear/Anytime, anywhere"). Lenny Kravitz funks things up with "Like Father Like Son." Shania Twain's husky emoting makes a fine pop ballad of the brief "Amneris' Letter." "Not Me" chronicles the goodness of love as Boyz II Men coo dreamily, their harmonies nestling into John's sumptuous score. --Paige La Grone

    5 out of 5 stars Loved it!!!.......2006-09-07

I'm so impressed with this album for several different reasons.
    3) It's Elton John
    2) I loved all but two of the songs!
    1) I usually hate the original broadway cast albums and movie soundtracks. They don't do the songs justice. They usually have chopped up versions of the songs and include unnecessary dialouge.

I'd love to see every musical (broadway or movie) done this way!
I appreciate the b'way versions, but I don't want to listen to them in my car...

4 out of 5 stars good variety and feeling.......2004-06-24

This is a very good CD. "Written in the Stars" is an extremely emotional song, and it is my favorite on the album. I would like to see the show on Broadway, but I have to say I don't think it can be too much better than this CD

    2 out of 5 stars Sour Concepts.......2003-06-29

It takes so much to try to get a musical to make its way upon Broadway. Sometimes you really need to understand how to make it really happen within the passion of the storytelling music. In that case with Elton John, he nearly seemed to make it with Aida. While the music for Broadway always seems to have at least something completely mgaical and a dash of power in it. Sometimes, you really need to understand it, to make it happen, and others don't see it from the start. Although Elton John has had great music for years, at least once in a era, something goes a little flat.

The 1999 Aida, was not a studio album from Elton, but a preview from what was happen on Broadway. The various artists record contains so many different artists in the record including Tina Turner, Boyz II Men, Dru Hill, and the upcoming Heather Headley. Before Heather made it as a singer, she made it right here in Aida, on this record. The only decent song that was a hit was Written In The Stars, which Elton performed with Leann Rimes. The song was also the last song Elton cracked Billboard's Top 40. Still, there really wasn't a lot of enjoyment within most of the record, and it fell into a sleeper. Considering that Elton is already planning on making another smash musical on Broadway, hopefully he'll do better with the concept record.

When it does come to making it on Broadway, it isn't really anything exciting, unless it truly is a smash, and Aida is a smash on Broadway, just not the record. Still, if you're a die hard fan of Aida, buy this record. Otherwise, it could be a hitless miss.

5 out of 5 stars Living Elaborate Lives..........2002-11-02

Aida was Elton John and Tim Rice's baby, providing a concept soundtrack album before even setting the stage on fire, the tracks are generally sweeping show ballads.
Elton teams up with several lovely and talented ladies, in LeAnn Rimes, Janet Jackson, and Lulu. "Written In The Stars" could be a vocal gladiator battle, the way LeAnn and Elton sing it. Janet and Lulu prove themselves as more mellow duet partners.
Kelly Price makes "The Gods Love Nubia" her own, the song is tied up in soul with her voice being smooth as silk. The far too short "Amneris' Letter" shows off Shania Twain's voice to perfection also. Pop culture phenomenon the Spice Girls turn "My Strongest Suit" into the most obvious pop stomper of this set. Another strong point is Heather Headley's solo "Elaborate Lives". A rich ballad, Headley recently embarked on an R&B singing career with the track "He Is". The legendary Tina Turner provides a fiery perfomance, her track being the powerful "Easy As Life" with Angelique Kidjo.
Duds are also present, Sting and Dru Hill's tracks are admitted stinkers. James Taylor, Boyz II Men, Sherie Scott, and Lenny Kravitz also deliver perfomances on the album. This album is well put together, with strong tunes and a short-list of superstars presenting them. A fun buy.

      Album Description

Strongly influenced by the independent bands of the 1980s, the songs bring to mind the post punk playfulness of altered images, aztec camera and orange juice - a charming rural pop sound with banjos, glockenspiels, acoustic guitars and fiddles thumping away in a home recording folk pop style. a proud exponent of a ramshackle bedroom aesthetic, the music is strangely uplifting hillbilly indie, reminiscent of belle and sebastian, beach boys and dexy's midnight runners. with it's quirky indie folk sound and healthy lo fi feel, it fits neatly alongside contemporary artists such as adem, aidan smith, m craft, the fence collective, misty's big adventure and aberfeldy.

      Album Details

Their Name is Cute, their Monker is Cute, the Music is Cute....hell, They're Just Plain Cute. (They're Even Cuter Than Early Jonathan Richman Albums!) the Sound is Happy all Around...owing Much to Belle and Sebastian. But Like a Great Bullwinkle Cartoon, There's Enough Nuance and Depth that Adults Can Find Pleasure in it all as Well. They Take their Name from a Regendered Morrissey Song, which is a Cute Enough Act in Itself. The Boy Least Likely to Presents a Different Perspective in Pop Music...one Sorely Missing from Other Artists...done With Panache.

i think this record is very worth buying... but you can get it on itunes for $9.99. so don't pay $32 here!

4 out of 5 stars Nostalgia at its best.......2007-03-09

This album is so fun. Whenever I listen to it, I smell crayons. It brings back memories of my early years. Also, the album content has two faces, presenting adult issues (relationships, love, heartache, etc.) from the eyes of a little kid. I love it.

PS Check out the boy least like to's version of George Michael's "Faith" on their website. It's super-fun too.

      5 out of 5 stars Fresh Voice.......2007-01-23

This CD is a must own for fresh, original pop music lovers. I haven't enjoyed the melodies on an album this much since I bought Pet Sounds and the instrumentation is unique and pleasing.

4 out of 5 stars The best party!.......2007-01-19

The Boy Least Likely To really lends itself to silly puns, like "The boy least likely to disappoint you." Okay, I'm not going to make any.

But in fact, this British tweepop band ISN'T going to disappoint listeners. Their debut album "The Best Party Ever" is full of charming, kooky indiepop, which sounds a little like the Apples in Stereo trying out a twinkly country sound. I mean, who doesn't want to listen to a xylophone song called "I See Spiders When I Close My Eyes"?

It opens with xylophone and banjo, right before Jof Owen starts murmuring, "Staring up into the solar system/All the stars are fixed up in the sky./I just want to sparkle for a moment/Before I just fizzle out and die." The song alternately twinkles and stomps, as Owen sings about spiders, broken hearts, and peaches from a cherry tree.

They follow it up with a series of catchy little songs: the unpredictable electro ballads with handclaps, catchy country-folk laced with keyboard, swoopy little pop songs, bouncy guitar melodies, little plastic flutes, mellow acoustic balladry, and shimmering electro-folk about "chasing rainbows/staring out of classroom windows..."

I have a soft spot for little bands that create solid tweepop, and "The Best Party Ever" is a good example of the genre. They do misfire slightly on one song -- "Sleeping With A Gun Under My Pillow" is brilliant, but it has those drunken twangs sometimes. But it's one small spot on a great song, on an album full of adorable music.

The music itself is a heavy dose of solid acoustic guitar, playing some solid little catchy tunes, and heavily smothered in some pleasant ripples of keyboard and mellotron. But the music is also made sort of childlike and upbeat -- multi-instrumentalist Pete Hobbs also sprinkles in xylophone, harmonica, kazoo, flute, bells and who knows what else.

Owen takes care of the lyrical aspects of the songs -- his voice is very mellow and sweet, tripping along with the music. And his lyrics are adorable -- fruit trees, stars, warm panda cola, "monster" adults from a child's perspective, and falling in love in a way that changes you for the better. And moments of poignant brilliance ("If I looked all over/Different winter would the/Snowstorm fall as beautiful").

"The Best Party Ever" has some rough spots, but The Boy Least Likely To makes a brilliant debut that only promises more good stuff in the future. The boys least likely to.... did.

      Amazon.com essential recording

Disney's Snow White, the world's first animated musical feature (1937), is still a standard in the industry. Though 1930s recording technology was primitive by today's standards, the Disney music studios have always used the available technology to its fullest, and this recording still stands up. The mature but hauntingly childlike Adriana Caselotti as Snow White is a unique vocal presence, and the songs include "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh-Ho," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." The score is nearly as great an accomplishment as the film itself. --John Sanchez

5 out of 5 stars The Churchill's are very talented persons........2007-02-13

When I was 6, I already had a very good sense of what is a fine music score. I'm 73 now and still loving that music.

      5 out of 5 stars One Song.......2006-02-19

I bought this album almost especially for the piece of music entitled "Special Sort Of Death." It does sound creepy but that's what I loved about it. From I saw the film I was like I have to have that.

Anyway another reason for me purchasing this album was the main titles for the film I love the ochestration. My favourite song on this album would have to be One Song followed by with A Smile and a Song.

And number 5 (a piece of music) I can't remember what it's called but it is creepy too the part that has snow white running through the woods.

Someday my prince will come is nice too. Adriana's voice is a little high and annoying sometimes though. But it's still nice to listen to. I listen to this album alot it's very nice and I like to listen to the version of One Song that is played at the end of the movie.

4 out of 5 stars good soundtrack for halloween.......2005-07-14

first of all, i have seen the movie and the hag scares me very much. about the music,it's not good music for children because the orchestral moving creates dark suites. the other part of makin' pies is no exception. i listened to special sort of death on a site called mp3.com and the beginning is very disturbing almost, because it's when the queen appears as the old witch and she plots to destroy snow white
Queen:(laughing)it's not for you, it's for snow white
      anyways, bye-bye

      5 out of 5 stars REMasterpiece!.......2003-01-21

This soundtrack is a perfect compliment to the film, and It's gloriously remastered to make you feel you are still watching and not just listening to the music from the movie itself.

In the liner notes I read the original soundtrack only consisted of five songs, the five songs we hear sung in the film. "One song/I'm Wishing", "Hi Ho", "The Yodeling Song", "Some day my prince will come", and "Whistle while you work". Over the years, the instrumental musical score was thrown in to create a wonderful masterpiece of a soundtrack.

I highly recommend purchasing this. If you like the music from the movie, you will love this. After hearing this for the first time(I've now heard it at least 100, thanks to my 2 yr. old), the movie is brought out to be more of a musical adventure as well as a wonderful story to be told.
This is my son's favorite c.d., and he has so much fun dancing and singing along.

      5 out of 5 stars A Magical, Delightful Soundtrack.......2002-10-07

This was the first of the newly remastered and expanded "Disney classic soundtracks" that I purchased for my collection, and it's still my favorite. How wonderful to have, not only the vocals from the old vinyl version ("I'm Wishing/One Song," "With a Smile and a Song," "Heigh-Ho," "Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum," "The Dwarfs' Yodel Song" (and if you don't want to get up and dance to it, there's something wrong with you!), and "Some Day My Prince Will Come"), but the background instrumentals from the track, never before available to the at-home audience. The "Queen Theme," the chilling "Far Into the Forest," and "I've Been Tricked" particularly bring scenes from the movie springing to mind. There are also two songtracks that were cut from the film print. If you're a Disney-lover, your collection must positively include this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Teaching Resource.......2007-07-10

Namaste! is an amazing education tool for children and adults to learn and practice together the beautiful art of yoga. A great resource for teachers who want to integrate songs and movement into classroom use and teach their students a fun yet physically and mentally rich practice.

There are so many original songs in this collection. In fact, there are so many tracks! Songs, guided meditations, guided postures - this is a rich resource for inspiration and teaching. Plus, the booklet is a treasure trove of information. All the lyrics are included, with suggestions for using the songs with specific poses and parent/teacher notes that give more in depth background into the yoga perspective.

For those new to yoga the parent/teacher notes are a helpful background, and can deepen your understanding of the purpose behind the yoga exercises.

For those that already practice yoga, the liner notes are helpful in seeing the yogic context that these songs and meditations are based in.

For yoga teachers and classroom teachers the liner notes provide useful tips for integrating the songs into their teaching or even creating their own songs for classroom use.

In addition to basic information on specific yogic breathing practices, including details on belly breath and 3 part breath, the parent/teacher notes also include information on: the role of affirmation songs and nada yoga, mindfulness meditation, managing stress, gratitude, guided imagery and cultivating inner peace.

I was so impressed with the collection on Namaste! that we decided to carry it in the shop in our yoga studio. It's an excellent resource for our teachers that work with children. And our yoga students find that Namaste! is a fun ways to share yoga with the children in their lives.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD for my yoga classes!.......2007-07-10

With over 40 songs and sound meditation moments just on the first CD of Namaste! this set gave me lots of tools and ideas to work with for teaching my yoga classes.
For example, I found the song "Being Present" to be a good lead in for meditation practice with children and even with adults in my classes.
I have played "Being Present" as a listening meditation to center my students at the beginning of class. It makes a great introduction to seated meditation focusing on the breath. I have also played "Being Present" at the end of yoga class as encouragement for my students to continue noticing times during the day when they are "being present" while engaged in day to day activities. Listening to "Being Present" has helped my students find easy and fun ways to focus on meditation practices. It's been an instant "hit".

5 out of 5 stars Fun for all ages.......2007-04-25

This Cd is so much fun! It is joyful and full of heart and soul.

I highly reccomend it for anyone!

5 out of 5 stars A Great Buy for Kids and Adults Alike.......2006-07-21

I bought "Namaste!" upon a recommendation by a friend, and boy have the CDs exceeded my expectations! We have listened to the CDs in the car during trips (we have three boys) and listen to them at home as well.

The tunes are catchy, the boys pick them up and hum them when they are doing their chores (so maybe I used this music to "focus" the boys during their chores). Many of the "ditties" are good for introducing new poses or transitioning into something new (even in every day activities). For a novice yoga family, this music collection is fun, positive, and inspiring.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, great messages, good for kids' creativity.......2006-02-20

My two kids (ages 4 & 7) are listening to this and they are really into it.
They end up making up lots of their own creative yoga poses,
dances and games from what they hear,
which I think is a positive aspect of an audio-based piece.

Contemporary composer Ned Rorem is typically likened to an American Schubert (living in Paris) for the fecundity, emotional range, and quality of his songs (though this represents only one facet of a prolific career). And Rorem's masterful 1998 cycle Evidence of Things Not Seen would seem to justify that reputation, as does this marvelous anthology from the Rorem songbook of the past half-century. The composer is fond of dividing musicians into the "German" and the "French," clearly identifying himself with the latter for the elusive sparkle and subtle play of shadows that characterize his art. What other kind of sensibility could "through-compose" Gertrude Stein's "I Am Rose" in a deftly perfect 27 seconds? Fortunately, American lyric mezzo Susan Graham intuitively understands this expressive aspect, as does pianist-partner Malcolm Martineau. Graham is constantly attentive to the marriage of music and text in the 32 songs here and phrases their little worlds into being with grace and wit. She can shade to a sweet vanishing point or allow her voice to blossom, orchidlike, into a dazzling profusion of colors. Few of these songs, which draw on the poetry of Walt Whitman, Theodore Roethke, Frank O'Hara, and many others, last more than two minutes. But their resonance lingers, whether in the haunting "Opus 101"--with its lean but potent string trio scoring--or the enigmatic "That Shadow, My Likeness" from Whitman. --Thomas May

4 out of 5 stars One last touch of Paris (but oversold by the critics).......2005-10-11

Ned Rorem is the last survivor, since the death of Virgil Thompson, of the long reach that Paris exerted over a generation of American expatriate composers, many of whom drifted overseas between the wars to study with the legendary Nadia Boulanger. Rorem's songs sometimes have American folk roots, but mostly he writes chansons, and like their French counterparts, his are crystalline, spare, sophisticated, and precisely defined emotionally.

If he were more tlaneted he might have wirtten masterpieces, but mostly this sounds like Samuel Barber on skim milk. Rorem often sets minor, if not trivial poetry. His lyrical gift is modest. But there's no doubt that he has been neglected, largely because of his stubbornly tonal conservatism, and now that tonality is repsectable again, he is being accorded last-minute honors. I'm glad for him, and his best work, which consists of his multi-volume memoirs, has added much to American culture. But even when skillfully sung by an artist of the caliber of Susan Graham, a hour's worth of Rorem's tiny jewel-like chansons is about twice too much at one sitting.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful perforance of excellent songs.......2005-01-20

I'm a neophyte to Ned Rorem's work. To be honest I purchased this CD because I really enjoy listening to Susan Graham. Although I really love hearing Ms. Graham's opera performances, I find it refreshing to hear her singing something in English. I also appreciate how she's taken time to perform something other than opera. Susan Graham's performance of Ned Rorem's songs has me seeking out other performances of his work.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Rorem Songs!.......2004-05-18

Susan Graham has a remarkable mezzo voice and sings Rorem as though she really is a sounding board for the composer. Kudos to her and this CD comes highly recommended to newbies to Rorem songs and those many die-hard fans!

3 out of 5 stars Come To Pop, Baby!.......2004-03-12

Recently, I heard Susan Graham on Garrison Keillor's "Prarie Home Companion" show. Wow! I didn't know who she was, but she had so much humour, verve and style while singing some show tunes, and that incredible voice. I rushed to amazon but all the English language songs I could find seemed to be on this album of Ned Rorem music. Well, whatever the weight lieder songs carry for the Germans, it seems that art songs in English mean songs you can't snap your fingers to, can't slap out a beat to and would never, ever, sing with your friends. I know, I know, I'm a Philistine, but please, Ms. Graham, give us an album of American popular classics, show tunes and the like. When I listened to you on Mr. Keillor's show, if I had been a bell, I'd have been ringing too! You are simply great. Don't let the classical music fans have all the fun. Throw a little our way too. Pretty please.

      5 out of 5 stars Worthy indeed - a gem.......2002-08-27

I cannot disagree with "A Music Fan"'s panning of this CD. Having first purchased the Hearing CD which he/she references, I reached the conclusion that Rorem's music was too knotty and "20th century" for repeated listenings and enjoyment. This CD with Susan Graham completely reversed my opinion. The songs are indeed chosen to be accessible, but they are much more than that. They are, simply stated, lovely. This is a disc I will play again and again, and has caused me to investigate many other Rorem CDs. I just came on line to buy it as a gift for a friend. Rorem deserves his due, and this disc gives it to him.
