Despite denied claims that it's about marijuana, "Puff the Magic Dragon" now ranks as one of the finest children's songs in musical history. It's sung around campfires and in nursery schools to this very day (while still occasionally taking a tug at adults' heartstrings as well). So, it only made sense when Peter, Paul & Mary released this "kiddies" LP in 1969, beginning a trend they've returned to throughout their career. Mary Travers had indeed recently become a "mommy," and the trio celebrate here not only with a new version of their classic tune and the traditional "Mockingbird," but clever children's songs from the likes of Tom Paxton, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Shel Silverstein. --Bill Holdship

5 out of 5 stars Still great after 40 years.......2007-05-14

I grew up listening to this album in the 70's, and just like in the lyrics for "The Marvelous Toy" when I played the CD almost forty years later for my own son he loved it just like me!

3 out of 5 stars Lah-lah Blah.......2007-01-05

I ordered this album to introduce our children to some great folk music. The music is ok but not nearly as engaging and upbeat of tempo as I expected for a children's album from said artists. For a very engaging selection that might even entertain the parent occasionally, try Sarah Hickman's Toddler cd.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful...........2006-11-30

I love this CD. It's the only Peter, Paul, and Mary CD I own, but I play it quite a bit. I love The Marvelous Toy and Going to the Zoo (2 Tom Paxton songs), Day is Done (a Peter Yarrow original), Boa Constrictor (lots of fun), and, of course, I adore the song Puff the Magic Dragon. It's a wonderful, wonderful song, and for those who say Puff has a lot of camp value, they're fools. It's one of the most poignant, sad, heartbreaking songs ever written. It is absolutely wonderful. There's a reason so many people love the song. This is a real treat of an album, and it's a rare case in which a children's album is not dumbed down and stupid....

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!!!!.......2006-08-09

I absolutely love this CD!!! My 5 month old son and I listen to it ALL the time. I am going to purchase "Peter, Paul and Mommy Too" here real soon.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet treat for all ages.......2006-05-10

This album is so wonderful for the whole family. We listen to it with our 1 year old and she loves it. We can play it over and over without getting tired of it. Such a difference from those saccharine kids' cds my friends play!! I hope that lots of people having kids now will get this album so we can teach the next generation that music doesn't have to be dumb or full of 'attitude' to be enjoyable. Beware, though: if you don't cry during "Puff The Magic Dragon" you should hurry to the doctor and have your heart checked!!

5 out of 5 stars my favorite children's album.......2006-11-15

I FIRST GOT THIS ALBUM 30 YEARS AGO, WHEN MY 32 YEAR OLD WAS A BABE.
I LOVE IT AS MUCH NOW AS I DID THEN...THIS IS ONE ALBUM THAT HAS TRULY STOOD THE TEST OF TIME.
"BOA CONSTRICTOR" HAS NEVER FAILED TO GET ANY OF MY KIDS OR THE HUNDREDS
OF OTHERS I'VE WORKED WITH INTO A GIGGLE FEST AS THEY'RE "EATEN UP".

3 out of 5 stars Folk Music is great for Kids!.......2006-11-12

This CD was good but not half as good as the first one, "Peter Paul and Mommy". Peter, Paul and Mary are legends and anything they sing is great! I can't wait until my son is old enough to appreciate this music more.

5 out of 5 stars as magical as your favorite dragon.......2006-11-07

Fun for all ages. Even the lyrics of "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" have been revised to be gentler.

The performances here are especially ballad-like, so if you are looking to rock out, look elsewhere.
