Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Fiddler's Green: The happy land/heaven imagined by sailors where there is perpetual mirth, a fiddle that never stops playing and dancers that never tire. "This is intimate music, good for a quiet morning or evening at home. A few solos, a duet, and some spare acoustic ensembles. There's a good dose of fiddling, and about half of the songs are traditional. Traditional music sometimes seems mysterious, but it's always familiar. It's comfortable like an old pair of shoes, and its timeless melodies and themes are the building blocks of the newer songs here... As Louis Armstrong once said, 'All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song.'" --Tim O'Brien
Musicians include: Chris Thile, Kenny Vaughan, Dennis Crouch, Edgar Meyer, Dirk Powell, Casey Driessen, Stuart Duncan, Dan Tyminski, Jerry Douglas, Mollie O'Brien, Darrell Scott, and Del McCoury.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Tim O'brien at his creative best.......2007-03-08
This album was released around the same time as Cornbread Nation, another one of Tim's masterpieces. This one really has a bluegrassy/Irish/Celtic flavor that is timeless. A must-have.
Great bluegrass music.......2006-11-08
Tim O'Brien was born in heart of bluegrass music country, in Wheeling West Virginia, in 1954. And in 1970, he moved to Colorado and moved into professional music. The rest, as they say, is history. He's a master of the guitar, the fiddle, the mandolin, and other instruments, and he produces some of the greatest bluegrass music made today.
This album is another in a long list of Tim O'Brien's works of art, and it is just as good as his others. The songs are a fine selection of Appalachian and Scots-Irish tunes, carrying the listener back and forth across space and time. I loved Pretty Fair Maid In The Garden and Foreign Lander, and really loved the musical numbers Land's End/Chasin' Talon and First Snow.
Overall, I found this to be a great album, and have listened to it over and over again. If you like the sound of great bluegrass music, then you will like this CD - I sure know I did! I give this CD my highest recommendations.
Roots Music with Style, Verve and Complexity.......2006-08-13
If you like traditional and bluegrass music with tight harmonies and innovative use of instruments, you'll love this album. This is not simply roots music, but roots music at its finest, showing theinfluence of layers of cultures and music styles, but well-incorporated with the Anglo-American musical tradition that forms the substrate from which these songs and pieces derive. The greatest gems here are "Foreign Lander," a duet of voice and bass with amazing, heart-rending and shivery harmonies; "A Few More Years," a violin-voice solo with all of the above characteristics; and the title cut, Fiddler's Green," a modern ballad written in the traditional style, with musical borrowings from sea chanteys and gospel. Nice versions of several traditional ballads, e.g. "Fair Flowers of the Valley" (Child's "Babylon") and "Pretty Fair Maid" (Child's "John Riley"). I bought this CD several months ago and it's still in my top-5 playlist.

True Beauty.......2000-01-30
I have had the pleasure of hearing one of Ms. Zimmerman's choirs perform. She is a wonderful conductor and teacher. This is proven in the way her choir sings. Earth Chants is a wonderful record and I would recommend it to anyone, whether you like choiral music or not. They SBHS Madrigals have near, if not perfect intonation and their songs have so much emotion. I have had the pleasure of singing the Brahms and Cantante Domino, both of which are very beautiful, as well as difficult to sing. If you like this album, check out Canticle, Zimmerman's newest group, or the Lompoc High School Madrigals (this is hard to find, you can call the school for more info). Both are very talented groups.
Zimmerman is wonderful, she captures the beauty of the music.......1999-02-02
SBHS Madz are truely wonderful in this record. They have great dicipline and perfect intonation. I would recomend this to anyone who enjoys choral music.

Sound approach to oriental bike ride for charity - Robert McMillen.......2005-12-02
It's easy to see how the beautiful landscapes of China could awaken the creative spirit in you, but singer/songwriter Raymond McCullough did it the hard way. In October 1999, Raymond went on the Mencap China Bike Ride - despite not having been on a bike for 29 years!
"I thought I'd never do it," he said, "The journey was 444 kilometres long over four-and-a-half days. On the first day we did 40 miles instead of 40 km which was tough, but the following morning, we woke up in this beautiful hotel with the sun shining down on the pomegranate trees, and I had a shower, put the shorts on and thought, `I can do this'. By the third day I had caught up on the lead riders," says Raymond with obvious pride.
The scenery was breathtaking, he recalled, but going up 18 hairpin bends to get the views wasn't all fun!
Even on the flight to Beijing, though, there was a song brewing in Ray's imagination. "Making our way over the Mongolian mountains, about six in the morning, I got this wee tune, three chords, in my head, and that became the chorus of `Ballad of Beijing'.
In the second week, whever I went I heard this particular tune played by three percussionists and I incorporated that into the song as well."
The `Ballad of Beijing' can be found on `The great China Bike Ride', a mini-album with five other songs from Ray's vast repertoire.
`Smoke goes up' is a lovely song about Ireland's smell of turf, which Ray wrote on a journey home from Cork through Ireland's towns and villages. "The smoke goes up, the rain comes down," is an image many will find familiar!
`1989' is about the fall of the Berlin Wall and there is a lovely instrumental called, `Ar tir seo aguinne (Our Land)'.

Best Folkrock Band I've heard!!!.......2002-09-28
I saw Fiddler's Green this summer playing a major festival in Germany. It was a graet concert! Superb performance! I bought the "Stagebox" Live CD and I'm addicted to it now. It's a real hot insider tip!!!
Scottish and Irish Folk the German way.......2000-07-25
Fiddler's Green call their music "speed folk", and on this 2-CD-live-album you get more than two hours of it (there even is an edition with a third bonus CD). Although I never saw the band live, I really do believe that they - and probably most of the audience - are having a good time. If you listen to the CD alone without the concert experience, it's about the same as if a cajun band or Scottish folk band tried to perform German folk music - it just isn't the real thing. If you're looking for authentic speed folk you probably do better with the Pogues.
