Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This collection is imbued with WordSound's irreverent dub ethos. DJ Rob Swift from the X-ecutioners opens the disc with "Rhythmic Wind" and is followed by Gearhead featuring the one and only Prince Paul. Africa "Baby Bam" of Jungle Brothers fame contributes a cut called "Nitestalker" and somebody named Sensational spills knowledge on "Dancehall Navigator." Overt references to old-school rap emerge on Scotty Hard's "Ramp Heart" and Mr. Dead revamps the old hit "Tears of a Clown." The Ill Saint closes things out with "Dubs of Smoke" and the entire collection is steeped in modern black mythology. While narrow in scope, the Ill Saint still knows what he likes, and he likes it dark, dread-ridden, and dangerous. Decent dub, funk, and rap. --Mitch Myers

Amazon.com essential recording
The three-volume Good Vibrations series is designed with the hits-hungry fan in mind. Eschewing a strict chronological approach, the best-of sets are arranged according to charting position. Thus the initial collection is laden with the group's trademark tunes, ranging from the California boys' first top 10 charter, 1962's "Surfin' Safari," to their last, 1988's "Kokomo," a stray, post-Brian Wilson success. "Kokomo" is by far the newest selection included here; nothing else dates past 1966's No. 1 smash, "Good Vibrations." With the likes of "Fun, Fun, Fun," "I Get Around," "California Girls," and the incandescent "God Only Knows" rounding out the set, Greatest Hits Volume 1 is the ideal first pick for anyone looking for the Beach Boys at their commercial peak. --Steven Stolder

Best Beach Boys.......2007-06-04
No need for much analysis here. An excellent Beach Boys compiliation. It's got all of the radio hits, the fun in the summer in the 60s. Maybe that's why "In My Room" and "When I Grow up to Be a Man" aren't here, which is because they're more thoughtful and introspective. Too bad, but what's here is excellent, great ambassador from its era.
Makes You Feel as if You Live by the Ocean.......2007-04-02
This album brings together all the all time favorites from the infamous Beach Boys. The classics like Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, and Good Vibrations are all included in this CD that is guaranteed to get your blood pumping. Its hard to resist getting up and dancing to these wonderful tracks. If you like the Beach boys, you are sure to love this album. Its got all the right tunes and grooves. It makes you feel as if you live right there, ten feet from the beautiful ocean. I highly recommend this album to any person of any age, its safe for kids, another perk of these amazing tracks.
A must-have for BB fans!.......2007-03-08
This has all of the good ones, with awesome sound quality.
The California Girl.......2007-02-23
Great songs from the BEST California 60's group ever! As a Californian, I can listen to these songs and see in my mind's eye the locale where the Boys are singing about. I've been to the beaches and jumped in the waves. I am the California Girl they sing about!
It's givin me good vibrations..........2006-12-29
Just load it up into your jukebox or IPod. If you've never been to Cayucos, CA then you're hopelessly guessing at what these guys are talking about.

So there's this pop singer... you may have heard of her? Madonna, she's called, and the word is that she's basically all image; she went through a put-your-hands-all-over-my-body phase, then she got spiritual, and then she started wearing cowboy hats. Between all the gossip columns and photo shoots, though, she's left an unmatched trail of devastatingly wonderful singles--roaring dance records, tender ballads, and a curious combination of the two that is her personal specialty ("Secret" and "Ray of Light"). How many artists' best-of-the-second-decade collections crowd out legitimate hits? ("American Pie," anyone? "This Used to Be My Playground"?) Unlike 1990's Immaculate Collection, GHV2 doesn't have any new material; "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," from Evita, and the glorious '60s pastiche "Beautiful Stranger" are the only songs that haven't appeared on a Madonna album before. But it compresses her past 10 years worth of records into an hour of one peak after another. --Douglas Wolk

The best of the best.......2007-07-03
If you want the 90's hits of madonna you must have this in your own collection. I love it
Completes the greatest hits collection.......2007-05-15
if you only want 2 of Madonna's cd's, get this and the immaculate collection and you will then have all of the best known hits on those cd's.
Not so great for Madonna's fans.......2007-02-28
First of all, I love this CD. It is a great collection for Madonna's 1990-2000's career.
However, I was a bit disappointed since it adds nothing special. That is there are no new songs, or special mix.
If you are looking for Madonna's hit songs in one CD, this is a great
album. However, if you are huge fan of Madonna and already having all the CDs of her, there is really nothing special about this CD.
Moreover, many great songs are not included.
Madonna GHV2.......2007-02-16
This cd is really very good.
The only down sides are that some of her songs from this period are missing, some edited, and no new songs were added.
Otherwise, it is fantastic,a great buy, and a must have for any Madonna fan.
Impressive.
I'm feelin these.......2006-11-18
I won't say to everybody this greatest hits is highly recommended. Being that I never heard all of her albums, so a true fan may feel like some songs is missin'. However for me, who is just really startin to seriously get into pop is somewhat satisfied with these and this is a 5 star collection to me. Some of the tracks I love, a couple I don't like at all and the rest I just like.
My favorite ones are in order;
Erotica
Ray of Light
Beautiful Stranger
The power of goodbye
Deeper and Deeper
The prodution is excellent and I love the vocals. If your new to Madonna, my opinion would be to start here. But a true fan can give me lessons.

Reba specializes in encouraging ordinary women to face their trials with courage, perseverance, and hope. Consisting mostly of 1990s hits, Volume III deviates from this mission just twice: "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia," which is either a slice of Southern gothic or pure kitsch, take your pick; and "She Thinks His Name Is John," a morality tale that mistakes pity for empathy. More typically, Reba shouts, "You go girl!" "Fallin' Out of Love," for example, is about a woman who tells her cheating ex to take a hike when he comes crawling back. "I'm a Survivor" (her sitcom theme and one of the disc's three new recordings) somehow finds common cause between the struggles of a single mom and a preemie. If only there were some real-life scale to it all. Instead, Reba the Diva transforms each song into a grandiose anthem, where even the quietest beginnings end with her revving up for one more key change. --David Cantwell
Customer Reviews:
Real Reba.......2007-07-18
I see a number of 1 star reviews for Reba's Greatest Hits Vol. III and most all those people seem to have as their gripe that this album isn't "country" enough, like Reba is some kind of a traitor to her "true" music. Well, I think it's up to the artist to decide what music he or she makes, and if Reba decides to alter things a bit, so what? In any event, it's not like this is some kind of radical deviation into a genre completely different from her 80s stuff. This is REba's stuff from the 90s and is still most definitely recognizable as country. Reba's voice is powerful as ever. The songs here center on Reba's vocals and storytelling. The best tunes:
Heart is a Lonely Hunter
Night the Lights Went out in Georgia
Take it Back
Why Haven't I Heard from You
One Honest Heart
I haven't gotten it yet, just read the reviews........2007-02-02
I thought that this was a place to write reviews. Not snipe at other reviewers. If you don't like the album just say so. If you don't like the review, then don't read reviews by that reviewer. You don't have to say that they're malfunctioning or that they are children. No one has the exact same tastes in music. It's important to get both sides.
"YOUNG" IS JUST AN ALTERNATIVE WAY OF SAYING "STUPID.".......2006-09-20
My feeling is that most of these....er....uh...."reviews" were written by children MUCH too young to know the superior talent and overall excellence of Empress Reba. I also feel that those same children are better suited to "reviewing" Rap and/or Hip Hop.....as those two genres are NOT music, and these children are NOT adult enough to offer a viable opinion!
Praise be to Empress Reba!
SORRY SONGS FROM SOMEONE WHO USED TO BE GOOD!!.......2006-01-20
If you want a greatest hits package from Reba McEntire, get her first or her second one. This one contains mostly pop tripe from when she all but abandoned country music to "do what sells". This collection is phony...just like the lady herself.
Nice Hits.......2005-12-07
Have you noticed that the Reba bashers are in clusters and they post within a day from one another. Look at their review history and you'll see that they (or should I use the singular form) only reviews and trashes Reba's albums. It's just one psychotic voice acting as 10 in vain hope to drag down her ratings. How pitiful.
Back to the album, the songs are here good, but the selection isn't. It's missing many crucial hits since Greatest hits II.
If anyone wants to buy this package, skip it and buy "#1's" that was recently released.

Favorite topics on this collection of Weird Al classics include food and medical problems. Superstar Michael Jackson gets sent up twice: "Bad" is transformed into "Fat" and "Beat It" becomes "Eat It," a hit in its own right. Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" is turned into a paean to potatoes, "Addicted to Spuds." And Los Lobos' version of the durable "La Bamba" is reconfigured into "Lasagna." Madonna's "Like a Virgin" becomes a song about a different kind of beginner on "Like a Surgeon," while James Brown's "Living in America" is parodied on "Living with a Hernia." If you want to take a funhouse mirror trip back to the 1980s, Greatest Hits is a good way to do it. Produced by rock & roll veteran Rick Derringer, who rocked out with Johnny and Edgar Winter and produced Meatloaf and Kiss. --Fred Cisterna

Well, what can I say? I love to have a couple of funny CDs in my car, when I plan on a longer road trip. It helps me stay awake, to listen to some really fun-poking songs in between...
It is unpretentious and hilarious... for the price, you can't go wrong if you like a little musical chuckle or a good laugh from time to time...

A good master of parody pop.......2005-07-15
I still think that Weird Al Yankovic did the best parody of a Michael Jackson song in Eat It, his take of Michael's own Beat It. Although it's 58 seconds shorter than Beat It's 4:17, it has quite a lot of energy for it's 3:19. It has that garage rock feel going for it. It has been his most recognizable song because of the Michael Jackson familarity and it came when Thriller was still red hot one year later. Yankovic has had a strong several years of doing parodies of some of the most overplayed pop songs that some people get tired of hearing 4,158 times on the radio. And in most cases, he's quite good. His humor is so on point on all of them. Even in the current low-carb, watch-what-we-eat world of 2005, Eat It from 1983 really fits well in today's times. The rest of the songs are fun and catchy too. He still includes accordion in most songs. And Yankovic's albums have gone gold every time, proving that some people still like his parody pop. This compilation demonstrates what he does best.
Weird Al is not losing it!.......2005-01-01
I've read all over in reviews that say that Weird Al is just not as good as he used to be! I disagree! My friend got me into him and some of his songs I like, for instants: "Amish Paradise", "Lasagna", "Eat It", "The Complicated Song", and "The Day Santa Went Crazy"! Others- I just don't care for! Personally, I think know that we're in the 21st century, and people are listening to a lot more crude music, this is the guy to write a song, funnier and cooler with that parody! I'm not a big music fan, but I can tell you one thing- I'd pick Weird Al, over Simple Plan or anyother hot bands out!

Weird Al Is ..........2007-07-11
Like a Harley Motorcycle, if I need to explain Weird Al, you'll never understand.
He spares no gendre, and levies parody and satire with harmony and rhythm on all targets of opportunity.
Since I dislike some of the things he "re-invents", some results are disinteresting to me. Overall, I consider him money and time well spent.
Mock on!
The Perfect Greatest Hits Set!.......2006-02-18
This is exactly what I was looking for. I have the Weird Al Ultimate Video Collection and after watching most of the videos, I instantly knew that I must have "Headline News," "Smells Like Nirvana," "UHF" and "Christmas at Ground Zero" on cd! This has all of them AND MORE!!! So don't spend tons of cash on the other albums when you can have almost all of the best from the early ninetys right here on one disc. BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!
A couple of chuckles - but that's it.......2005-09-20
Weird Al's CDs don't usually get stocked in this part of the world, so I came to this on the basis of his reputation and having heard a couple of his better known songs. I was sorely disappointed.
First of all, Weird Al isn't really that funny. Sure, he's amusing in a sort of 'this is something the whole family can enjoy' sort of way, but he's not edgy and he doesn't take risks.
Furthermore, he doesn't even really bother with most of these songs. I don't know if this is meant to be a genuine 'greatest hits' or a hilarious parody of the greatest hits format, but I'm shocked if it is, because a lot of these 'songs' are mish-mashs and melodies, with very little in the way of coherence or humour to recommend them.
Anyone with a functioning sense of humour should look elsewhere. Perhaps there are better Weird Al albums, but I don't plan to waste any more money finding out.
(The two stars are for the two chuckles I got from this)
Good Great Better then most.......2003-09-03
i think this is a great cd to get if u like weird al and u want something diffrent because i combineds some of his greatest hit in the 80 and 90 but if they just combined greatest hit 1 with 2 in stead of two it would be better then before because then u would hav fat, eat it and dare two be stupid and other great songs smells like nirvana, jurrasic park, christmas at ground zero, yoda polka ur eyes out, bedrock anthem and head line new aare all 5's and this is the life,Uhf,andachy breaky song are 4 in a half and everything else is a 4 ovarall i give it a 5 it is in his top3 cd's his best is running with sciccors and most of his old cd's r the best but his newwer cds r very good!!!!! but not as good as his older cd's i hope this reiwew help u and
WEIRD AL ROCKS!!
The best of "Weird Al" from the "short hair" days of yore..........2003-07-09
If my wife were to tell me that on the next cross country trip I could only take one "Weird Al" Yankovic album my choice would be between "Running with Scissors" and Volume 2 of his "Greatest Hits." We get two more tracks this time around and while I am sure every single one of us would like to replace several of tracks with what we would consider better choices (I always skipped "Achy Breaky Song," just like I did the original), that is always going to be true with any "Weird Al" hits collection. But on the plus side "Smells Like Nirvana" is a recognizable classic, "You Don't Love Me Anymore" is the best original composition Yankovic ever wrote, and "Polka Your Eyes Out" is as great a polka medley as exists in the canon of Western music. The other parodies cover the current spectrum of American music. Yes, "Weird Al" does not take on the gloved one or the Material Girl this time around, but anybody that can rewrite the lyrics to songs by both the Kinks and the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a master of the form for my money. Besides, on this one I knew all of the originals and my kids were stumped by "Jurassic Park" (although how do you really make fun out of a song about leaving a cake out in the rain?). I know it is really not fair to complain that these "Weird Al" hits collections are better than his albums (who is that NOT true for?), but there are just so many people who skip the regular albums and wait for the next hits collection to come down the road. I would think that Volume 3 should be out before the next Star Wars movie.

The latter part of the '70s found Ronstadt roughing up her image a bit, covering songs by the Rolling Stones and Warren Zevon and eventually taking inspiration from the burgeoning punk and new-wave scenes. All of this was a long way away from the laid-back country-rock sound that established her as one of the top female artists of the day. On the material collected here, Ronstadt remains as strong a singles artist as ever. Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 contains winners such as "It's So Easy," "Blue Bayou," and the Chuck Berry romp "Living in the U.S.A.," as well as edgier material such as the Stones' "Tumbling Dice" and Zevon's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me." --Daniel Durchholz

songs of our youth.......2007-07-30
Remember Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Ponies. Remember Linda Ronstadt and her ex-paramour ex-California Governor Jerry Brown. No matter. These songs and the earlier Volume I Greatest Hits are what you want to remember about Linda Ronstadt. No exactly a torch singer, not exactly a classic rocker, not exactly a country or folk singer. But comfortable in all those genres. The songs, for the most part, travel well over time as does her rendition of them. Stand outs here include the lengendary Roy Oberson's Blue Bayou and my favorite the Chuck Berry classic Back in the U.S.A. Hey, the Stone's Tumbling Dice is well done, as well.
Long time memories.......2007-01-26
This is what I have been looking for,for the long time.I enjoy it very much especially the 4th track.
The product was very well handled.
Greatest songs of all time #2.......2006-09-09
Everything I said in my review about her Greatest Hits, Volume #1 goes double for this one. Nuff said. Thank you linda.
Linda at her peak.......2005-01-08
the first Greatest Hits (1976) for Linda Ronstadt caught her as she was still a rising star in the California sound. Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (1980) is the culmination of the peak years of Linda's popularity, 1977-1980.
When "Greatest Hits" was released, Linda was still pushing Hasten Down The Wind (also 1976). In early 1977, she had a surprise hit single with "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me", which is included here. The song was not one of Linda's biggest, but it's a powerful, memorable track.
In the fall of 1977, Linda released her biggest album ever, "Simple Dreams". The album contained no less than four major hit singles, two of which ("It's So Easy" and "Blue Bayou") were on Billboard's top 5 at the same time in late 1977. "Blue Bayou" showcases Linda at her best Patsy Cline vocal moment, "It's So Easy" is a classic country-rocker, "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" was a great and sarcastic Warren Zevon number, and her version of The Stone's "Tumbling Dice" shows just what a great female rocker Linda is.
The next year, Linda topped the charts again with "Living In The U.S.A.", in which three hits are culled. "Back In The U.S.A." is sadly one of the weakest hits of her catalog. The Chuck Berry version is classic, but Linda's version is rather aimless. However, all is made up by Linda's smash top 10 jazzy version of "Ooh Baby Baby". Another classic Ronstadt-style track is "Just One Look".
Even though "Living In The U.S.A." was another #1 platinum smash for Linda, it became obvious her formula was getting stale. So Linda decided to shake things up and returned in early 1980 with "Mad Love". Guarenteed to show the Benatar's and Harry's that she is still a force to be reckoned with, "Mad Love" became another huge hit, even if it missed #1. The hard-rocking "How Do I Make You" was the first single and it quickly went top 10, then Linda released a breathtaking remake of "Hurt So Bad" that became an even bigger hit. The third single culled from the album, "I Can't Let Go" harkens back to her Stone Poneys days, but updated to sound 80's.
"Greatest Hits Vol. 2" was released in late 1980 and was the culmination of this stellar hitmaking period in Ronstadt's career. One more rock album (1982's Get Closer) after this and then Linda settled into the world of standards, Adult Contemporary and Spanish music, all genres she has done well at too.
Chopped off ..........2004-09-16
This compilation covers Ronstadt's biggest hits from the late '70's/early '80's. Some lesser singles were excluded:
* "Rambler Gambler" (#42 Country) was the B-side of "How Do I Make You," but did not appear on the "Mad Love" album.
* "Lose Again" (#76 Pop) and the Country singles "Crazy" (#6), "I Never Will Marry" (#8) and "Love Me Tender" (#59) are also missing.
My biggest grievance, though, is with the edits of the songs. Many of the songs cut off 5-10 seconds too soon. As a result, the songs end rather abruptly. I don't know whether Asylum has or will correct this. For now, I suggest tracking down a used vinyl version of this album. The sound may not be as pristine, but the songs will at least be complete.

I actually use this when I'm on my gazelle by Tony Little. Doing 30 minutes on that is BORING so I needed something to keep me going and this works great. The beat is clear and consistent so you don't get offbeat.

I don't like any of the Totally Hit series cause they suck!
Totally Hits 2004 really sucks! I Only The Hip Hop Song's it
has. One Thing that i'd notice is that they never have any Latin singers. That's One Thing i hate of this series. This series comes out every 5 Months! So they Have 2 CD'S evry year.Always the song's they put are play'd out whet their cd come out.
Now That's What I call Music the series comes out with 3 cd's a year! They have Latin artist.
That why Now That's What I call Music the series is better!
so don't recomand u buy any of the totally hits cd series
cause they suck! Insted buy The Now series!!!
OKAY!!!!!!! Not enough Hip-Hop or Rap , R&B, Reggae.......2005-03-03

big Al at his best.......2007-06-12
Anyone who likes rockabilly should like this cd.I had looked for Mr.Jones since I first heard it in '86.A good mix of his up-tempo stuff with some of his more heartfelt material. It is easy to listen to and easy to relate with.Apretty good addition to any collection.
The Best CD.......2003-08-25
I am in my 30's and grew up listening to Al Downing as a child. I was always touched by the Mr. Jones song as a child and since I have grown up and moved on I always wanted to hear that song from time to time and could never remember who had sang it. Well, I found it finally and about broke down crying I was so happy to hear it again. This whole CD is wonderful if you like the older country and western music, back when country didn't have the pop sound it does today. I highly recommend this CD, I also got the CD for my father who got me started on country as wee little child!
