Various Artists is actually two guys out of Europe making experimental, atmospheric electronic music. This disc compiles the remixes of their tracks "8" "8.5" and "9" as well as the originals, plus a new remix by Arovane. Remixes appear from Monolake, Pole, Funkstörung and Autechre, but the remixes are more inclined to sound like those individual artists rather than resembling anything at all from the originals. The only mixes that really touch on the repetitive, low-key mantra of the originals are from Pole (though still sounding distinctly similar to Betke's own work on his CD1) and the "Modulo 8.5" from Monolake. Funkstorung's offering, while quite handsome, is so far removed from the original that becomes nearly irrelevant. The price here is a bit much and might be found cheaper if you look hard, but it is limited on CD so be sure to check it out soon.
