The Soulcast remix alone is worth the price of this CD single. Jody has struck gold once again with this fantastic remake of the Chic classic. It's truly a shame that Jody no longer gets the attention that she deserves.

A cover of the 1979 Chic disco classic, Jody Watley's cover of "I Want Your Love" sounds more sincere in its feminist assertion of sexuality than the original. Exquisitely sung by Watley, the track boasts several remixer reinterpretations.

Of course, the most well-known remix is the Soulcast Icon mix (available here in both full and edited forms). The gentlemen of Soulcast -- Massimo Sanna and Franceso Giovanni respectively -- effortlessly recast the song as a ecstasy-fueled circuit synth-track. The Masi and Mello Late Nite Vocal Mix continues in this vein, though it is considerably darker than the other mixes. The Morgan Page Sunset Strip Mix is the most subdued (and atmospheric) remix on the single -- though no less sexy. And Watley's impassioned contralto is on display throughout, inspiring in its rawness -- enticing in its warm and passionate delivery.

Avid music lovers such as myself will instantly think "Shalamar" or "Looking For A New Love" when they hear the name JODY WATLEY. If you're not familiar with this name or the music of this artist, then you must be under the age of 20, in which case you're forgiven for not knowing. However, the 30 somethings amongst us know what I'm talking about. When Jody Watley emerged on the scene as a solo artist, many people thought that she would just dissappear after one hit or two. But she proved them all wrong when she won the Grammy Award for best new artist, as well as garnering a few other nominations! This lady rivaled even MADONNA herself in popularity, in style, in songwriting, and it was her second album "Larger Than Life" that established Jody Watley as a pop icon, or as some like to refer to her, "The Queen Of Class". While the mainstream seemed to have lost an interest in Jody Watley, her fans never did. Because Jody Watley is not an artist one can place in any one category. Not only can she do pop music, she also does funk, she is an incredible jazz vocalist (have a listen to the song "After You, Who", which is featured on the album "Red Hot & Blue: A Tribute To Cole Porter"), she is also an incredible balladeer (listen to "It All Begins With You" on her "Affairs Of The Heart" album), and always wanting to travel different avenues, she took a trip down the Dance genre, to create two exceptionally acclaimed albums "Midnight Lounge" and "The Saturday Night Experience". Are you warming up to Jody Watley yet? Well, you should! Because next to being a singer, she is also a fantastic songwriter and producer, AND she owns her own record label, Avitone Records. Now, let's talk about miss Watley's last album "The Makeover". Or better yet, go and buy it! All I have to say about that album is: "This is how it's done, period!"

Her most recent single "I Want Your Love" is an incredibly "made over" version of the version that made the group "Chic" famous. There are 10 remixes of this song on this EP and I must tell you that every remix holds its own! My favorites are:

The Wesley Willis Fiasco has a much different sound than Wesley Willis solo recordings. The solo albums have a simple pre-programmed keyboard sound. The Fiasco recordings are done with a full band, so they have a fuller sound. The band plays in a hard rock style. But Wesley still sounds the same, and his songs still have the same structure. This CD features some live performances by the Wesley Willis Fiasco. They sound good, if a bit sloppy at times. One of the amusing things here is listening to the things that Wesley says to the audience between songs. I won't repeat any of his lines, because most of them are rather vulgar. Fans of Wesley should dig this CD. I should also mention that there is an unlisted bonus track here, which is another live version of "The Bar is Closed", recorded live at The Wetlands in New York City. Wesley goes into an extended dialogue after the song.

My girlfriend let me borrow this CD and told me to pick a time to listen to the entire thing, unbothered, and uninterupted. I had already heard "Part I" a few times on the local radio station and already knew i loved it, but thats all the Ludo i'd heard at that point. So on my way to work one day I gave the CD a spin. I SWEAR the CD did not leave my CD player for a week. I was mesmorized. I have never heard anything like this, and may never again. The tale of love, loss, destruction, traveling through time and space all in the name of love. A rock opera in the essence of Pink Floyd's the Wall, and easily just as good. The emotion and passion in each part of every song on the album still gives me chills (and I've heard it through at least 50 times), and by the end the raw emotion of the music and story still chokes me up. Andrew, Tim, Tim, Matt, and Marshall have done it again. No. They've gone beyond the call of duty. I had the pleasure of getting to see the entire set live a few days ago here in thier hometown of St. Louis, and I was BLOWN AWAY. This is what music is all about!!!! Keep up the good work, Ludo, because you'll be rockin it BIG TIME really soon. I'm just glad I got to meet them when I did. I'm getting chills just thinking about it.

5 out of 5 stars An unbelievable post-punk rock opera.......2005-09-28

There's no question that "Broken Bride" is a rock opera, but the music has more in common with "American Idiot" than similar narrative concept albums by The Who or Meatloaf. It tells the story of a man who build a time machine to prevent the death of the woman he loves. The machine malfunctions, sending him back to prehistory and forward to the Rapture. Ultimately, the traveler must make a choice that will decide whether he saves his wife or all of humanity.

When I first read about the concept, I laughed out loud at how ridiculous and overwrought it was. By the last song, I had to keep myself from crying. That's not what you'd necessarily expect from Ludo, whose self-titled first release positioned it as a Weezer-ish alternative rock band with a sense of humor. Broken Bride features the same emo-tinged vocals and hooky rock, but the band evades any attempt at genre categorization in its second outing.

In fact, the album's range is wide enough that there may be some moments that are too hard or too soft, depending on how you like your rock. But every genre twist and turn is perfectly executed, lushly produced, and imaginatively composed. It's an easy album to love, and one you'll want to be sure to listen from beginning to end.

        This Melbourne band has been making their mark on the Australian music scene since 2003 with two frenetic, angular EPs, a 7-inch, and an album on Unstable Ape. This is their US debut, a 4-song minimalist pre-album artifact. Their sound reflects the experimentation of no wave and the immediacy and off-kilter tunefulness of classic UK post-punk. Their stripped down guitar-bass-drums racket and call-and-response vocals emit a wonderfully controlled urgency. Limited edition die-cut digipak with a top-cap, printed in a dayglo Pantone ink. Two songs are not on the upcoming album, "Mosaic", produced by Bob Weston (Shellac, Mission Of Burma), due out in April.

        This band is currently touring with Ted Leo & the Pharmacists. They are the opening act and let me just say that this band is awful. Where is the originality here? Also how the hell did they get signed to matador records? I thought they actually knew what originality and what music was meant to be. I guess I was wrong. Anyhow, this band has no energy, no originality. The female vocalist in my opinion should be kicked out and then the actual composition of these songs should be refined. Everything just sounds jumbled in a way that is just not appealing. Don't buy this album, don't go to their shows, its a waste of time.

        love of diagrams self titled ep comes out with the furiously paced bass driven track "pace or the patience". it's the kind of track that will put a lot of audiences into a frenzy. the bass playing on this track and "no way out" is amazingly fast.. the vocals on this ep are usually direct and shouty.. the vocal interplay between the guitarist (luke horton) and bassist (antonia sellbach) are a nice touch as well.. there are some early 80s post punk influences working here.. the band i thought of when first hearing this cd was delta 5.. i'm sure someone out there might mention mission of burma as well.. a modern touchstone for me is hail social because their tracks are bass driven.. because of the tempo tracks 2 and 3 resemble hail social the most in terms of song structure.. the biggest difference of course is that hail social doesn't play at the velocity that love of diagrams play at in parts of this cd.. the expectations for their full length will be pretty high when you consider the strength of this ep.. note: the first two tracks will appear on love of diagram's forthcoming album..

        bought this little jem only a few days ago, and i really have played the hell out of it. just really love the live track the most. the bass guitar has to be heard to be believed. just plain powerful. the remaining tracks are just a notch below in quality, but still wonderful songs. keep on rocking you aussies. college radio has to get a grip on these guys.

              Like the recent Brace Yourself by mu-Ziq, this fun and funky four-song offering from Wagon Christ (a.k.a. Luke Vibert, who also records drum & bass tunes as Plug) goes a long way toward putting a happy, even downright silly, face on techno. The madcap opener, "Rendleshack" (from his forthcoming LP Tally Ho!), sounds like a sparkling '50s television commercial crossed with a video game celebrating "high score" over and over. Dotted with flute samples, the downtempo "Breakage No. 1" delivers all of the foreplay but none of the release of Van McCoy's "Do the Hustle," while the beckoning strings of "Breakage No. 2" are the closest this 16-minute outing gets to menacing--which is to say, not very. --Kurt B.
