Classic Chili Peppers.......2007-03-08
"Uplift Mofo" was the last and greatest RHCP studio recording with late guitarist and founding member, Hillel Slovak. This album oozes a late 1980's funk/party/rock feel - all high energy tracks. The energy starts high on the opening track, "Fight Like a Brave" and doesn't let up. "Me and My Friends" has become one of my favorite RHCP songs of all time. There's also a great cover of Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" although you'll have to be paying close attention to recognize it.
This album really offers a glimpse into the band's roots and shows insight into how they evolved into the group they are today. A must own for any true RHCP fan.
great album but...........2006-09-20
this isn't about that. amazon, take off kingofrock's spotlight kid review off the spot. it's unreliable, it says no chump love sucker and walkin on down the road are similar, when they're anything but. people who listened to this enough to remember all the songs know it. and it's very apalling to read: love trilogy, a nice slow song. A NICE SLOW SONG?!?!? what the ****? it's anything but a slow song. this guy obviously either skimmed through the songs quickly in one listen or he hasn't listened to it at all.
DON'T YOU KNOW FUNK'S COLORBLIND............2006-06-09
I ble uuuu Funky Crimes. Against the state of Mind. Funky Boy Meets a Funky Girl Make a Funky Baby Cause the Funk is Crazy. I MISS Mr. Slovak and Jack (Though John is GREAT, TOO). Meandmy Meandmy Meandmy Meandmy Meandmy Friends. GREAT RHCP cd. George Clinton Rules the WORLD!
Get it Right.......2006-04-07
This is an incredible album, but I feel that many chili fans stack it way too high.
Just because Californication or BSSM was more popular doesn't mean it wasn't a work of art. Uplift does not touch either of those albums, which are classics and two of the greatest albums ever made.
They truly combined everything when they made those albums, and delved into a world with songs like "Under the Bridge", or "I Could Have Lied" on BSSM, which were missing from Uplift.
Uplift is still a five star album, but "true" chili fans are wrong when they say it's the last good thing they did.
FUN FUN FUN!!!.......2006-03-21
The last truly "great" album by the Peppers! Work after this was o.k. but gradually lost the edge that you will find here-the peak of their creativity!

Misfits.......2007-05-08
Misfits *****
One of the great punk bands of all time was only great for a few years. The Misfits are easily on eof the all time best punk bands and really one of the best bands of all time from any genre. Glen Danzig the bands frontman and lead singerfronted the band in the late 1970's and early 1980's until he left the band to form Samhain. Danzig was really the driving force behind the band, writing most of the songs and arranging everything, also his voice is one of the most recongnizable in all of rock n' roll history. So when he left the band in the mid 1980's the band did continue on but they were never the same. Hardcore fans never felt the same abou thte band again and while they still sang about the same things and looked and played the same The Misfits were never really The Misfits again.
This collection along with collection II do the best to offer the best of the band during the Danzig era, covering the albums Walks Among Us, Static Age, and Earth A.D. And while both collections are a great way to showcase the band, especially together they are a great way to introduce someone to the band. Sepperatly this is the essential way to get to know The Misfits because it basically contains it all. II is a good intro as well but more of the bands classic songs are here such as 'Bullet' 'Horror Buisness' 'Die, Die My Darling' 'Where Eagles Dare' and 'She' are all here.
From start to finish you are continusely introduced to classic after classic track by this legandary band. The Misfits were one of the greatest bands in all of punk as well as one of the most influential. Their influence transended genres like Metal (Metallica, All That Remains) of course punk (AFI). They sang about horror movies and jokingly sang about them in a happy way. It is just too band Danzig started to belieave in his lyrics to much forcing him to leave the band.
If you are remotley interested in The Misfits this is the one to get. All the before mentioned albums with Danzig on them are worth the money but if you just want one to cover the band then this is the perfect thing for you.
Horror Rock.......2007-02-11
An essential cd if you are into punk rock or just love good music in general. The Misfits style melds vintage horror film lyrics with Danzig's unique voice and a raw yet simple sound. Every track on this album is a winner and like Operation Ivy or Led Zeppelin you will find that fans of the band vary on what songs are the best; there are just so many quality tracks to be found. The recordings on this album aren't crystal clear but do not let that deter you from checking this album out. A good starting point (perhaps the best choice) if you are new to the misfits.
poor sound quality.......2006-12-14
The music is awesome, but what a terrible sound quality! Get another Misfits cd instead. This sounds worse than your old cassettes.
misfits.......2006-11-24
nothing much to this band other than just good tunes.
Classic Song : Last Caress
SONIC REDUCTION.......2006-11-14
The way to really experiance The Misfits, aside from their legendary Halloween shows, is on vinyl. They were a singles band. Tiny 45's with great art and undeniable hooks. Imagine early KISS (when they actually cared about writing catchy rock tunes) as a punk band with the gore set on MORE and you've got some idea what the Danzig-era Misfits were like. A good helping of those early singles are compiled here. Ear-candy by any measure. "Horror Business" is some really foot-pounding, knife-wielding stuff. "Where Eagles Dare" has a bassline that has (for better or worse) spawned a thousand bands. Play "Death Comes Ripping" at work & you will incite a mosh-pit before you get fired. "Bullet" encapsulates everything that was great about them into a minute and half blitz. The problem lies in the production. This is a great collection of superb songs that were poorly recorded (hence the one star deduction). You must listen to the Misfits at high volume. That's a given. However the CD will be a frustrating listen due to various mixing levels and unfortunate production. Imagine how this would sound under a proper producer. Imagine what would have happened if Steve Albini, or Gil Norton worked with them! ...or Rick Rubin? Hell, even Mutt Lange! We will never know, but this is work of historic import anyway. The tremors caused by the Misfits will be felt for years to come. Irresistable. Be warned though...these songs will stick in your head for days!

You can tell a lot about a band by the company it keeps. Simple Plan's close chums include Good Charlotte and Blink 182, giving one a fair hint of the sound the group's debut, though, judging by song titles like "I'm Just a Kid," "The Worst Day Ever," and "God Must Hate Me," it's clear these Canadian pop-punkers are aiming for a younger demographic still. Ignore the bikini-clad babes that festoon the sleeve--there's none of Blink 182's smutty double-entendres here. Frontman Pierre Bouvier writes about skipping school, crashing dad's car, and lusting after girls that don't know he exists. "Every day," he sob, "is the worst day ever." The music itself is far from glum. "I'd Do Anything" is a beaming Green Day-style chugger, while "When I'm With You" is a tale of obsession and heartbreak that owes more to the Go-Go's than Rancid. Seasoned punk fans will be put off by the excessive juvenilia, but the new wave should lap this up. --Louis Pattison

Music without compromise.......2007-05-02
If the radio hits "I'm Just A Kid" and "Perfect" don't instantly thrash you in the face with the entire theme of this album when they first reach your ears, it seems nothing could. Both albums from Simple Plan, the Canadian quartet who have slammed their way into the hearts of thousands of young listeners, have a very adolescent feel, even more so than bands like Good Charlotte or Linkin Park. As countless commentators have pointed out, they're by no means emo or hardcore--but they must be accepted for what they are, not run over for what they aren't.
From budding crushes gone wrong ("When I'm With You", "I'd Do Anything", "Addicted") to parental conflicts ("One Day" and "Perfect") and everything in between, Simple Plan definitely appeal to the youngest audience possible--or at least the youngest listeners can be when they start developing individual tastes in music. One look at the CD's cover seems to tell you what fantasies were swirling in these pop-punkers' minds, but one listen to the actual songs proves that not even early Blink 182's slapstick act can stand up to these guys. You simply can't tell them to act their ages.
But does this blueprint work when put into action? Past a few mediocre songs and vocals that can get annoying, ultimately, it does. Surprisingly, the track that best shows what these rockers are capable of isn't one that voices any tween frustrations, but rather a catchy one praising the singer's one-of-a-kind girlfriend: "My Alien", in which frontman Pierre Bouvier claims that "she has two arms to hold me / And four legs two wrap around me" over a catchy, munching guitar beat.
As a start their debut proves that they can not only produce memorable riffs and tunes that are perfect to sing along with, but its apt title proves that they can deliver energetic music without compromise, despite a theme that isn't nearly as perfected or as universally approved of as that of their peers.
Zero Stars Suckers!.......2006-12-30
College Kid (20 yrs old)
Sorry, don't have password
Will somebody tell me why this band is still in existence? I mean c'mon is this what people call music? This crap isn't even close, all it is is a bunch of whiny men (I use that term very losely) complaining about how much their lives sucked in high school. Let me tell you somethin' a**holes, there are a lot of kids today who've had to go through more pain than you could ever dream of going through. I had a very happy childhood, so this isn't about my personal life. I know kids that have dealt with horrible things, yet have come out stronger and better and still don't complain. It makes me sick to think that people actually feel sorry for these gutless losers. I wonder if Pierre's parents forgot to circumcise him, maybe that's why he sounds sexually frustrated.
Seriously, how can anybody like these losers. Here's the lyrics to one of their songs:
I'm just a kid
my life is a nightmare
nobody cares tonight (AW, poor baby, do you want your mommy now, jackass)
And I don't give a s**t if these lyrics aren't correct to all you adolescent peabrains who reviewed before. I am fed up with babies like these imbeciles getting attention for their "traumatic childhoods" when there are kids constantly being abused, thrown around from home to home, and treated like animals every day. You think because a pretty girl didn't want to go out with you was so traumatic, you're entitled to everyone's sympathy. Here's my advice: F**K OFF! Btw, at least your parents halfway cared about you, you ungrateful, spineless bastards.
P.S. By the way, for all you SP lovin' morons who think you're so cool because they are "heavy" or "rock hard": you're not. My Pantera CD's can and always will blast this band right off the planet. Think I'm playin', see for yourself, idiots. SP wouldn't know what heavy is to save their lives. It is time for good music like Pantera, Metallica, Stone Sour, Black Sabbath, Demon Hunter, Breaking Benjamin, Tool, AIC, etc. and individuals with talent to make headway again. HAve a nice life, babies.
Enough is Enough!.......2006-11-27
I respect people's own opinions of what they like and don't like. But seriously, folks, stop comparing this to blink 182. I am so sick of blink being categorized with simple plan, good charlotte, and sum 41. Blink 182 had to work through a lot of crap for 7 years before they finally got to make it this big. All these new bands did was cash in on other band's success.
I know that blink is not the most punk band out there, but they never reached this kind of a poppy mess. Every single song sounds the same. It sounds to me like they took All The Small Things (probably blink's crappiest, poppiest song ever), made it more poppy, and repeated that for 12 tracks.
And I wouldn't be as mad if they would just be labelled differently. Even though blink's 1999-2003 albums were mislabelled, they EARNED the punk label early in their career, back when they produced good NOFX and descendents style albums. Even then, they had a distinctive sound that set them apart from other bands of the time. That's another thing that bothers me. All of these "pop-punk" bands now sound the same.
If you want some good punk or pop-punk music, try blink's stuff from 1992-1997. Even better, get into the real punk bands like The Sex Pistols, The Descendents, Anti-Flag, and NOFX.
please note all the five-star reviews by kids.......2006-09-06
Remember the style of music that came out in the late 70's called Punk?
The pioneers of this type of music were bands such a Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and the Talking Heads. The style becamse somewhat funk-influenced to the gut-wrentching hardcore metal influenced sounds of The Dead Kennedies and Ministry. Even Social Distortion had their own little sound to offer. This is how it went through the 80's.
Yet, after the who Nirvana-mania that saved music from Whitesnake and Warrent, Punk, as well as many other sounds, seemed lost until...
Green Day comes around with "Dookie." This continued the punk sound into what we know today.
So in the words of Oasis: "Where did it all go wrong."
It's not that this sounds on it's own is bad. When Blink 182 first came out, they had a lot of fun to offer. But gawd, where do we draw the line? After that, we had ( in no particular order) Sum 41, New Found Glory, My Chemical Romance, Showoff, and jeez, I could go on forever. They all sound so much alike. Still they were once tolerable. But with simple plan, (sigh), enough is enough. I can't even tell the difference sometimes between these guys and Bowling For Soup. And I don't easily confuse bands.
Really, though, these guy call themselves Punk. But last time I checked, Punk was about rebellion, Anarchy, disatisfaction with where humanity is going, all that stuff. Ex Sex Pistols "Anarchy In The UK" or Ramones "I'm Against It." Now Listen to some of the titles off this: "I'm Just A Kid," "God Must Hate Me," "I'd Do Anything." Difference? You'd have to be blind not to see one. These guys have jumped on the "poser" bandwagon that every other "punk" band on a major label has jumped on, and thus, mainstream punk is doing the same thing heavy Metal is.
An awesome CD.......2006-09-01
This is one of the best albums I have ever heard. There's no songs on here that I don't like. All of them are great. Especially I'm Just a Kid, I'd Do Anything, and Perfect. I reccomend this to anyone who likes bands such as Yellowcard, The All-American Rejects, and blink-182 or anyone who is looking for some good music to listen too.

Inevitably labeled "pop punk," Simple Plan's sophomore album finds the Montreal quintet settling in as a straight-ahead rock band. Yes, lyrically, their concerns remain grounded in the adolescent petulance and alienation of classic punk. They're "the ones you love to hate." "You don't know what it's like to be me," they insist. "We're the kids that you pushed away," they huff. Musically, however, the follow-up to 2002's popular No Pads, No Helmets
Just Balls finds the band moving toward a strain of radio-friendly rock that owes less and less to the punk canon. Opener (and album highlight) "Shut Up!" "Me Against the World," and "Perfect World" boast sweeping choruses and Pierre Bouvier's spit-in-your-eye vocals. But strings creep into "Welcome to My Life" and the closer, "Untitled," is a heart-on-his-sleeve piano lament that owes more to Night Ranger than the Ramones. This one will appeal to fans who prefer the "pop" side of the "pop punk" equation. --Steven Stolder

Great Band and Album.......2007-06-30
I would have to seriously disagree with all the people who wrote bad comments about the band. Simple Plan sings song about how you're all kicked and pushed around. Some of you other reviewers don't even know what it's like to experience things like this, so you really shouldn't say anything bad about it. It's a really encouraging album that tells kids to rise up. Songs like "Shut Up!" really tells you what to do when someone always bothers you and stuff.
The Tradesman battle away.......2007-03-18
Simple Plan are rock's true tradesman. Very little talent but through sheer hard work they have become a renowned band. All the people who flame them have to understand these guys are just trying to carve a career like you or me and guess what? they are suceeding. The fact that I'd rather eat glass than listen to it is not the point, because of their approach they will constantly improve as musicians and songwriters. For now though appreciate this album for what it is a fun album by young, uncomprising males who refused to give ground and are now reaping the benefits. Another thing I don't recommend this long Player to those who look for virtuoso singing, you are better of elsewhere. Thanks for your time.
I'm sorry I'm such a whiney brat!!!.......2007-03-07
All Simple Plan does is complain. I mean think about there biggest hits. "Im sorry I can't be perfect" I mean come on. I honestly can't stand Simple Plan, so I can't say whether this is one of their best or not, but its awful either way. Don't buy this no matter what, unless you want to be depressed and annoyed by the lead singers whine.
Zero Stars.......2007-01-01
College Metalfreak
Haha. Simple Plan sucks. Good lord, how can a band suck as much as this one. Seriously, how can anybody listen to this crap. It's not music by the way, it's just a bunch of whiny girls in their twenties wishin' they were men. All the songs on this album flat out suck. I hope this band is through. The lead singer Pierre, what a stupid name, is such a loser. I have never heard a more annoying voice in my life. It's like finger nails on a chalkboard. It sounds like all the members are porn-addicted masturbators. Btw, if you're a guy (I am) and you do this, you're a loser, plain and simple.
Also, Eliza Dushku is such a gorgeous woman. I thought it was so awesome in the video to the horrific "I'm Just a Kid" (only seen it once) when she dumped these wimps, including that stupid, loser bandgeek boy, at the end. It's reassuring to know that a beautiful, intelligent, and strong woman like her won't fall for immature, pathetic babies like them.
Alright album.......2006-11-05
The songs are very cool and exciting when you firs hear them, and listen to it a few times. Then it gets soo old, you want to throw it away, instead of selling it to someone. The songs are very overplayed. Even my personal favorite, Welcome To My Life seems to be very overplayed. I think they're a good band, just, songs need to be a bit more likable. I'm going to base these songs' ratings on when I first heard them.
1. Shut Up! (9.5/10) Pretty repetitive. It's upbeat, and a good song to dance and sing along to.
2. Welcome To My Life (10/10) Again, my favorite on the album. Catchy, and a good song to sing along with. Overplayed, like all the songs.
3. Perfect World (8/10) An Ok slower song, and I'll stress it again. Overplayed.
4. Thank You (6/10) Not really that good. Not really very likable, fast and boring.
5. Me Against The World (9/10) Catchy, exciting, headbobbing, on the darker side. EXTREMELY overplayed though.
6. Crazy (10/10) One of the better songs. It's good to reflect on. It may be my favorite song as well.
7. Jump (10/10) Also a good song. It's not really that overplayed. It's very jumpy and thrilling. I like it.
8. Everytime (10/10) Here's a good soft song. Loved it, and this could be my favorite song.
9. Promise (9/10) It's very catchy, and fun to sing. Overplayed as well.
10. One (8/10) Kinda boring, but you get used to it. Good lyrics.
11. Untitled (10/10) And to end with the softest song. It's very very soft, and pretty overplayed, wayy too much. Good song to reflect on memories and corny stuff like that, but just...nah.
And overall my rating would be 71/100. Poor, I thought it was better than their debut though. Their debut was pretty dull, and boring.

Underworld is one of the most highly anticipated genre films in over a decade. Lakeshore Record's soundtrack, which features exclusive songs and mixes (both in and inspired by the film), is an unparalleled collection of the best music the contemporary rock world has to offer.
The soundtrack album is produced by Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails whose unique relationships within the community of A-List talent brings such unprecedented highlights to this project as the first song ever penned by Maynard James Keenan (Tool / A Perfect Circle) for a motion picture and soundtrack album. Also appearing on the album is former Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland who along with Lohner and Filter's Richard Patrick have created the formidable super group The Damning Well who make their debut on this album with the song "Awakening."
One look through the album's track listing and you'll find contributions from artists as diverse and respected as Trust Co., Finch, Skinny Puppy, Page Hamilton, and David Bowie to name a few. Every track on this album is either written exclusively for this project, or is an exclusive remix, or rare version only available on this release.
Underworld, both as a film and an album is a truly unique marrige of artistic sound and vision.

underworld.......2007-06-23
I remember buying this the first day it came out, I was really curious to hear what the Damning Well and Puscifer would sound like, I was not displeased. I also really enjoyed the David Bowie track, overall this is an above average soundtrack, at least I though so.
One of the best soundtracks to a movie ever........2007-05-26
Usually I'm not big on soundtracks, but this is by far my favorite soundtrack ever. The whole album was produced by Danny Lohner, the second best person to be in Nine Inch Nails after Trent. The first song, Awakening by The Damning Well (Danny Lohner, Richard Patrick, Wes Borland) is my favorite song on there. It's just a classic hard rock song with very melodic vocals done brilliantly by Richard Patrick. The second song, REV 22:20 by Puscifer (Maynard James Keenan, Danny Lohner) is another one of my favorites on the album and it has the sentual type vibe to it with extra vocals by Milla. All of the songs are really good, and I'm not just saying that. The Page Hamilton song was also good. Hell, all of them are worth listening to. The album will be worth the amount of money you spend, I can tell you that. It has some great collaborations and thats what got me interested in it in the first place. That and the fact that I'm a huge Danny Lohner fan (and he did a great job with this, by the way). I highly recommend it!
Better than I thought..........2006-10-15
I bought this album because iTunes wouldn't let me download the Puscifer track unless I downloaded the entire album... the rest of the CD actually isn't all that bad.
It took me months to buy this because I bought Underworld Evolution for one track and the rest of the CD wasn't anything to climax about. Songs like "Rev 22:20", "Optimissed", "Bring Me The Head of the Disco King", "Awakening", and every Renholder track on this album make it worth buying. I'd mention the A Perfect Circle tracks, but I already had those so they weren't new. They're a nice addition, though.
I never watched the movie so I can't really say if the songs fit in with the theme and feel of the film.
This CD is definately better than its sister. If you're thinking about buying one or the other, go with this one first.
Typical rock soundtrack.......2006-08-12
This is a good -not great-rock soundtrack. It fits the movie.
OK if you like this sort of thing.
Pretty much sucks...BUT..........2006-08-11
I hated the movie and this soundtrack blows but hey, it's got the best Finch song ever released on it...so I say 4 star. Worms of the Earth baby.

Yikes.......2007-07-13
What can I say? This is an excellent, excellent, excellent album with absolutely ferocious songs that are the musical equivalent of removing your face with tweezers (in a good way, of course).
As good as it is, about 92.312435438973465% of people will probably absolutely hate this album. The reason why is each note is like getting shot in the face. Dissonant, jagged guitars pummel you while the insanely fast double-bass-prominent drumming kicks you in the balls while a man who must have swallowed a box of thumbtacks screams and screams and screams and screams at you.
But then, the instrumentals...
The band must have said, "OK, we don't want people to die by listening to this, so we better stick in some more mellow stuff". It's like going from eating cement to eating ice cream. Even when the instrumentals use dissonant guitars and fast drums like the songs with vocals, at least there's no screaming, and they just as often veer into jazz-rock territory or weird, ambient sound effects. More than anything, these show that the band can do more than kill you with sound.
I have made slight reference to, but never really overtly mentioned, the quality of the musicianship on this album. Even if you hate these guys, you have to admit they're really talented. Almost scary time signatures are played at insanely fast tempos, and then they do the mellow thing. Not only can they pull off multiple, usually very difficult things very well, it generally results in a great song.
Not all the songs sound the same, either. They did to me the first time I listened to them. But if you really pay attention, there's a world of difference and they are all cool.
In conclusion, just buy the @#$! thing. Even if it all sounds like sped-up sludge at first, you'll get accustomed to it and then, once you start to like it, you won't be able to live without it.
BUY NOW!
Beyond the apex!.......2007-06-14
Primary composers, Chris Pennie(drums) and Ben Weinman(guitar) have constructed an overwhelming experience seemingly aimed at not only crushing listener with the aggression of extreme metal but keeping them constantly tense and completely off balanced with chaotic but suspenseful unorthodox structure. The music is constantly moving and changing, scrambling, stopping and starting over, but not without a sense of purpose as the songs carefully build with intensity, reaching frenzied climaxes or in some instances dramatic but menacing releases. Even the more quiet jazzy melodic moments are unsettling and tense as they keep the pressure boiling.
The group's much hyped musical chops are indeed stellar in a psychotic way with blistering keyboard like guitar work and an impossibly tight rhythm section. There is a ton of stuff happening at once and in a short amount of time, so it's possible to hear the same song several times and still miss out; watch out for the twisted circus melody that gradually takes shape in "Jim Fear". Yet, despite the blazing guitars and god like rapid fire drumming the music is often paced at a jerky steady grind without the driving momentum often associated with speed metal or thrash. The experience of this album is more on par with getting tossed and slammed around in rapids than speeding down the highway. Musique concrete is also explored on several tracks with cryptic, sometimes creepy paranoid samples. Chris Pennie also has two lengthy drum solos on the instrumentals "*#" and the jazzy "Weekend Sex Change."
It should be noted that the music isn't really expressive or soulful, as evident by the cover art and album title the music is intentionally robotic, caculated, assaulting, and cold. When your ear does catch a funky head bopping groove, it often brings to mind a factory assembly line or clunking gears; this is most evident in the drill like riff that sandwhiches "43% Burned" and the album's surprisingly appealing title track that would borderline on smooth jazz if it wasn't for the crunchy guitars that puncutate the closing. The vocals are often barked or spoken word nonsense with a few memorable hooks chants and lines; an aspect of the band that would improve in the future with more rangeful and creative front men. Though later work would see DEP exploring simpler but even more creative and out their ideas, this is still the band at it's most complicated and endurance pushing; eclipsing the apex indeed. The appeal of this album lies in the creative cliche free way the songs provoke unease and paranoia, the sheer brutality of the album's assualt, and the stamina/technical talents of the musicans to dare bring these crazy ideas to life.
Classic of both extreme metal and experimental music.......2006-09-13
The Dillinger Escape Plan's debut and masterpiece, Calculating Infinity, struck the music world from, as far as I can tell, out of nowhere. As far as influences go, the closest I can think of is the Dazzling Killmen's technical hardcore, Meshuggah's dissonance and lack of melody, Cynic's mix of jazz and metal, and John Zorn (Naked City, to be precise)/Mr. Bungle's need to encompass as many genres into one album as possible. But none of those bands really come all that close to sounding like Calculating Infinity, although I suppose they were precursors to The Dillinger Escape Plan's defining attributes - the intricate, staccato riffs, the number musical styles that one song can cover, the ultra complex rhythms that are played at nearly unbelievable speeds, and of course the total lack of cohesive melodies that leads many to call them "pointless noise". These elements are all then tied together by their method of songwriting - which involves taking the number of musical movements that progressive bands put into their 20 minute epics and condensing them down to 2-4 minute long doses of insanity.
To give you a slight idea of what compromises a The Dillinger Escape Plan song, I'll take the longest track on the album "43% Burnt" (not including "Variations on a Cocktail Dress" because it finishes with 5 minutes of silence). It starts off with a strange breakdown that, just as you are getting used to its odd rhythm, launches into an incredibly strange and fast riff. Within less than 20 seconds this riff has switched between distorted and clean guitars, and then is replaced by a flurry of dissonant chording while a clean arpeggio is played over top of the chaos. The first riff comes back briefly before you are treated to Ben Weinman frantic lead guitar work. After another chaotic assault of arpeggios and dissonant chords the song hits a high point of intensity around the minute and a half mark. Before this climax really has time to sink in it is quickly funneled off into a strange jazzy clean section that transitions into a spurt of staccato chording. After this the band rockets back into the adrenaline rush of the climax of the song, letting it play itself out more fully and powerfully this time. Then the last minute or so of the song is take up by the same breakdown that was played at the start.
As you can tell, a lot goes on during Calculating Infinity, but there are two things about this density of ideas that make it great. First is the way the songs all flow cohesively from idea to idea. While at first it seems like a frantic mess of style switches, but as you listen to it more it becomes apparent that the songs do flow in a logical, though far from normal, manner. Nothing on the album is just a random style switch thrown in for fun, and everything is extremely well thought out. Second is the intensity that comes from the unsettlingly fast pace of the songs, the energy that The Dillinger Escape Plan put into the music, and the how ridiculously fast and complex the musicianship is - most notable Chris Pennie's drumming and Ben Weinman's lead guitar. While its originality and the fact that it practically created the technical metalcore genre on its own are the reasons that Calculating Infinity could be considered a classic in the realms of extreme or avant-garde music, I think The Dillinger Escape Plan's songwriting and intensity are really what make it a great and enjoyable piece of music.
noise? please..........2006-07-26
BOO HOO dillinger are teh untalented peoples! they make teh ugly solos at the same time! OH YEAH I KNOW TO PLAY TEH ARPEGGIOS ME MAKE POOPIE TEH DILLINGER PLAN GUYS! NOISE! RUN FOR YER LIVES!
the arguments above, don't work, they don't stand for anything, they are invalid, they are nonsensical, this release is amazing and there is nothing else to it, and the people who hate it and claim it to be a record by "untalented people" is because they are so close-minded that they can't take some screams along with their daily dose of music, so they throw it away and never take the time to listen to it patiently
want some real noise? google the term "masonna"
Math Metal at its best.......2006-07-21
While some people may be unable to understand the complexities that The Dillinger Escape Plan shows throughout their music, and simply write it off as "noise" or "soundtrack to a train wreck" they just are simply too ignorant to try to understand what is happening.
Being a music student for the past 6 years of my life, and playing guitar for the past 3, was still not enough preperation to completely understand this album. The guitarists are phenomenal, being able to pull off any key signature (7/4 what?) and any musical style, jazz or shock rock or math metal and fuse it all together in an incredibly catchy way. Their drummer is insane being able to be all over the place and yet go in a single direction all at once. In perspective, my friend who has played drums for 10 years and practices at least 2 or 3 hours a day, is still unable to play most of their songs. While some people criticize the band for the vocals being unnecessary, due to the amount of screaming, they fail to realize that the music that they listen to involve screaming as well, since pretty much ALL metal (despite newer bands like Trivium, and bands before the early 1990's) involves some sort of guy sounding like he's trying to channel satan himself through his throat (perhaps they're jealous since they can't write music like this).
All-in-all, if you are looking for something that you have never heard before, which I can guarantee you haven't, or are just curious to see what the hubbub is about, then you should definetly pick this album up.

Definitely worth buying!!!!.......2006-03-22
Everyone on here keeps going on about how simple plan's not "punk" and what posers they are. Well, who cares whether they're punk or not as long as they make good music (and i happen to think they do)? Another thing, who decides what being "punk" entails, exactly? Who defines that??
You also say that they always write about love and breakups and that they should get new problems. Name any band you consider good, and i bet they've written about love and breakups. And since you all are apparently dead set against "posers" don't you think it's a little ridiculous to try to say that they should get new problems? If those are the problems they have and know about, then that's what they should write about. I don't know what could be more poser-y than writing about problems they don't have.
Simple plan is a great band. They write about things all teens can relate to. I love both of their albums and I think everyone who likes rock should try them out. I'm sorry for sounding like such a whiner but some of those reviews made me mad. SP rocks.
review.......2006-03-18
Don't knock Simple Plan's first album, but this one is way better. Great mix of deep songs and upbeat songs that make you just wanna jump around. Definitely worth buying
THIS IS NOT ROCK!!!.......2006-03-13
This is some crappy pop music! Simple Plan are emos from Montreal that really can't write songs! All they whine about is how crappy their lives are and breaking up with their girlfriends. BORING!!! Listen to a band with awesome lyrics... like Type O Negative or My Dying Bride!
Ignoring the ignorant rants coming from the VOID of stupidity.......2006-03-06
I am tired of hearing bad reviews from people who have never listened to the band and automatically assume that they are posers. My friend let me borrow the CD, and I listened to it. IT WAS HALF-DECENT.
Okay, so these guys are definitely not punk rock to start with. They use power chords that are slurred most of the time, a bit more intricate for the pop-punk genre than the occassional repetitive rhythm guitar strumming the same exact string for three straight minutes. The drums are a mess though, they sound like a two-year old beating on pots and pans. The bass was actually not as bad as I expected it to be, it was audible. The lyrics were typical teen-pop angst driven, you get the picture--no creativity besides the rhyming. I just didn't like how all of the tracks sounded nearly the same, I guess that's just how pop-punk is getting to sound these days.
Key Tracks:
Shut Up
Jump
Crazy (the guitar intro was a takeoff of Smashing Pumpkins' "Today")
I would reccomend this CD to to intended audience, ten year olds. It's not HORRID, but it's certainly not great.
completly awesome.......2006-02-21
Simple Plan has definitly changed their music style from No Pads, No Helmets,...Just Balls. it's much more deeper, the songs are heavier and i would have to say have a bit more meaning then their old catchy jumpy songs. they sitll have a few fast song on their alblum that you can jump around to such as the song Thank You,Jump, and Promise. i rate this a 5 because i think Simple Plan write GREAT songs and this alblum was just sucha HUGE transistion from their last alblum but this one is soooooo AWESOME! This is one of those alblums that you can listen to forever and it will have the same affect on you everytime you listen to it.

Very Different From thier Previous Albums.......2007-03-13
Glenn Danzig was never known for complex musical arrangements but I feel that in his early days as a performer he had something to offer. With his first band, THE MISFITS, Glenn introduced the punk world to monsters, evil, and chaotic music that I feel was the heaviest punk at the time (1977-83) had to offer. I myself am not a huge punk fan but THE MISFITS to me stood on thier own from the whole scene. I don't think any other band sounded like them. "Earth A.D." was released in 1983 and was the last record they would make that meant anything. It opens up with the title track and drags you into the dark and disturbing mind of Danzig. "Earth A.D." sounds as if the hordes of hell are let loose. We then move into "Queen Wasp". After a generous amount of feedback, you are punched in the face with a devastating guitar riff played by Doyle. Glenn's ever present howling opens this track into vampire women and death with a ferocity that cannott be matched. Moving right along, we next hear "Devilock" which again pummells the listeners ears into submission. "Death Comes Ripping" sounds just like the title and "Green Hell" is a prototype to METALLICA with it's devastating downstrokes. Now, we have "Mommy, Can I go out and Kill Tonite?". One of the best. Halfway thru the album, we move onto "Wolfbslood". My guess is this little ditty is about turning into a werewolf. Hence the lyrics, "it's wolfs blood and it's pumping like it's f***ing in my veins and I feel my vertabre shaking". Cool stuff. "Demonomania" is a short thrasher that takes no prisoners and then we are treated to "Bloodfeast" which to me is a precurser to Glenn's next band, SAMHAIN. "Hellhound" is a virtual monster from the depths of hades that gives out no mercy and expects none in return. I should mention that "Die, Die my Darling" and "We Bite" were not originally on this album. As well as "Mommy, Can I go out and Kill Tonite". I believe these were singles, if I'm not mistaken. With the invention of CD technology and remastering techniques, "Earth A.D." needed an overhaul. It did get it on this particular release and that is great. When I first heard this album, I had borrowed it from a friend in high school and I thought that there was something wrong with his copy. So, I went out and bought it, and it sounded the same as his. It wasn't until it came out on CD that it's full effect was felt by me unfortunetly years after it was originally released. Personally, I love this album and is a most needed addition to fans of extreme music. As far as the sound on the CD goes it is so much crisper and clearer and in no way loses any of it's awesome power. All the dirt is still there. It just sounds a lot better. I should also point out that Glenn's lyrics on "Earth A.D." are his most twisted and venomous. In his long career of 31 years he has never matched the lyrics of this album. It sounded like he was a demented serial killer on the rampage. I wouldn't doubt that even SLAYER thought he was nuts. THE MISFITS last album with Glenn Danzig is a blood-spattered platter of punk in it's most evil and primitive form.
not quite like their other albums.......2006-11-04
if you read any of my other reviews you will hear my go on and on about the misfits and what an influence they had/have on me. so why only the one star? because if youll notice the track list, it is simply the last 7 songs on the collection 1 album and the last 5 on the collection 2...so you may already own this and not even know it. just buy collection 1 and 2 and you WILL then have this album too!
Awesome!!! Yet Another Killer Fits Release!.......2006-08-06
(this album accually gets a 4.5 from me, but The Misfits are too good for me to give anything under a 5!)
Earth AD/Wolfsblood is awesome, but much different from anything that The Misfits have EVER done before. Many of these songs are extremely fast. Nothing else was as fast or brutal before this album, and nothing else is as fast or brutal today. But it's very good. It contains some very superb Misfits songs, like Earth AD, Devilock, Death Comes Ripping, Green Hell, Mommy Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?, Demonomania, Bloodfeast, We Bite, and my personal favorite Die Die My Darling.
If there's any bad thing about this album, it's these three songs: Wolfsblood, Queen Wasp, and Hellhound. They're not bad songs at all, but they all sound exactly the same and IMO, they're kinda boring. I don't hate em, they're just not favorites. They're average.
So, if you're looking for a punk/metal album with an extreme amount of originality, go for this!(hell, buy all their albums!) It's dark, creepy, brutal, and will leave you bleeding and in stitches and begging for more.
KILLER 'FITS ALBUM.......2006-05-09
This is probably the fastest, most in your face Misfits album. Every song is unique. This is probably the third best Misfits album, the first being "Walk Among Us", and the second being "Static Age", so after getting those get this, or buy the box set.
Misfits do Hardcore.......2006-01-24
The final MISFITS recordings were "Earth A.D./Wolfsblood" and the "Die, Die My Darling" EP, both included on this CD. After making their mark as a horror movie version of RAMONES doing ELVIS PRESLEY, the band adopted the "in" style of punk at the time (1982), which was playing blazingly fast hardcore punk. Although considered now a classic MISFITS album, at the time it was released many fans (and even some of the band members themselves) were put off by this slightly less melodic approach in favor of straight thrash beats, ultimately serving as a huge influence to up and coming Thrash Metal bands such as SLAYER and (guess who?) METALLICA. I listened to this album just months before METALLICA's "Garage Days Re-Revisited" EP was released in the summer of 1987, so I prefer MISFITS' version of "Green Hell" slightly over METALLICA's. At the time I heard this, I was more keen on liking this type of hardcore: fast, unrelenting and ferociously brutal, yet it retained those classic MISFITS melodies though buried under the intense barrage of guitars, bass and drums. I have grown to like their more melodic material a bit more, but nontheless, "Earth A.D." is an essential album for any true MISFITS fan or for fans of vintage, head ripping hardcore punk.

Sally is AMAZING - on CD and live!.......2006-07-04
We were lucky enough to have Sally play at our wedding last week at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, CA. I first heard this cd months ago, shortly after hiring Sally to play for the wedding.
I was BLOWN AWAY by the quality of her music! The Wedding March as played by Sally actually brought tears to my eyes. She's a class act, from start to finish. Her music absolutely made our day magical. Sally played for 5 hours straight, in 3 different locations - and in each location, played her harp expertly.
If you are in the Bay Area, consider hiring Sally for your event. If you are not in the Bay Area but still want top-notch hapr music for your wedding, this cd is perfect! You will NOT be disappointed.
WOW!.......2005-02-04
I didn't know that some of the traditional wedding marches could sound so great on the harp! All the love songs are gorgeous as well. Wedding Magic and Sally Fletcher made it simple to choose my daughter's wedding music.
Lifesaver!.......2005-02-01
Wedding Magic was a lifesaver for me. I didn't have a clue how to choose my wedding music, but Sally Fletcher's beautiful harp music saved the day and made it easy!
Very helpful!.......2004-07-26
This CD made planning the music for my wedding so easy! Hearing excerpts from the CD really helped me decide what to have played at what time before, during and after the ceremony. Beautiful!!
OK if you love harp music.......2003-03-30
Some of the selections don't really lend themselves to the harp. My daughter was not impressed with the sound. Make sure you really want harp music.

I don't get it.......2006-08-07
A fellow music fan told me to give this a listen. I hated it
The songs are not melodic, thats a tough voice to listen to , the musicianship is nothing interesting. Its just weird music! I tried, listened to it like 50 times, but its just not good. I don't know, maybe I'm too old.
Emergency & I is the pinnacle of 90's indie.......2006-08-06
After thinking about it for a while, i realized something. The Dismemberment Plan is really the perfect band. They tried as hard as possible to stay away from the muck that is the major label music industry, yet they were pretty well known and easily accessible. They were one of those bands that someone would tell you about, and youd buy their cd, and you would never regret it. They give you the feeling that you discovered something wonderful, and in a way, it belongs to you.
This CD is all of that and more. They allow you to ease in to their crazy sound with some straightforward songs like "the city" and "a life of possibilities." Yet the true genius lies in the more experimental songs. Gyroscope uses a time signature that i am not even going to try and figure out. "The Other Side" has chaotic bass and drums, but it all works together to create an incredibly mellow feeling. "You Are Invited" is my favorite on this cd. Its just the singer and a drum machine for most of the song, and its really all you need. I really reccomend that everyone gives this cd a listen. Even if you dont like this "genre" of music, you will definitely appreciate it for what its worth.
this album makes me laugh.... in a really good way.......2006-05-05
i like this CD a lot. i downloaded it a few weeks ago, i know that i'm seriously behind the times. this is a band where the vocals make/break the experience for the listener. i've read a lot of the reviews here and they're pretty dichotomous: you either love or hate this album. the singer can be anywhere from coy to well... coy i guess. the lyrics all seem like they were delivered with a sort of smile and an unspoken request not to take them too seriously. i think that people CAN take music too seriously sometimes as well as art. i don't understand how someone could listen to a song that proclaims a lack of sex is going to lead to a nervous breakdown (girl o'clock) and still say the lyrics are "pretentious" and "poorly-written". musicians are people, they want to have fun, they have a sense of humor. this band is really unique, extremely fun and what can i say... i think we all know the Plan makes you want to open that car door in a freeway traffic jam and put some moves on the other gaping drivers.
i don't know what to compare this band to, i try not to bother with that. there's a lot of different elements in this from pop and punk, indie and even some jazz, grunge. but it's more of a well-crafted junk sculpture than a pile of dissonant crap. give it a spin, it's a really good CD.
The D-Plan Rocks Me Like a Hurricane.......2006-03-13
So the guy that gave it a one star review, only had the album for two days. This record (like a lot of great records) is a slow grower, it takes repeated listens to really enjoy. I remember the first time i listened to lonesome crowded west by the mouse, I felt ill. I didn't have a place in my brain for the sounds i was hearing. This record is sort of like that, in that it is tough to understand on the first spin.
Anywho, Emergency and I is a great album. Just repeat to yourself, "I must listen to this record 9 times before formulating an opinion or i will get syphilis." and you will be fine
my love hate relationship with this record.......2006-02-11
I truly want to give this album 2 and a half stars, but I can only give 2 or 3, and I don't think it deserves 3. There are parts of this record that I love, and that is what is so frustrating about it. Amidst the great moments there is a ton of filler and trite lyrics. The lyricist almost seems to care not a wit about what he's writing and the delivery is in general pretty laconic and awful. Then out of the blue, the singing becomes earnest accompanied by better lyrics and great catchy choruses. What gives? The song Gyroscope is one of my favorite on the album, and then at the very end, when it turns to just vocals, it is the worst and one of the most embarassing endings to a song ever. Why oh why did they sabotage themselves, or did they not even realize it? Are they trying to be cute? I honestly don't know, but it kills me because I love "parts" of songs on this record, but not entire songs.
Plenty of people have given this record 5 stars and seem to think that this band is the greatest thing in some time, and perhaps they are easier to please than I am, but I don't like half-baked material, and I find a good deal of the lyrical content and delivery of this record to be gutless.
