Product Description
When Tom Faulkner released his debut CD, Lost in the Land of Texico, an image was born that painted a musical and lyrical picture of a place where listeners longed to go to again and again. It is truly a soulful experience to Get Lost ... And now, with the completion of Faulkner's second CD, Raise The Roof, the journey evolves, moving the listener to an even deeper and richer place. Like Texico, Raise the Roof is explosive at times, yet gentle at others. The sounds and the stories are vintage Faulkner, taking the listener farther down a wonderfully familiar road, but with powerful new twists and turns that leave you, once again, longing for more. Faulkner's musical acumen even caught the attention of New Orleans' legendary Dr. John, who joined Tom to sing Blues Across America, a rocking tribute to the heritage of American blues. Raise the Roof is sure to impact existing fans, as well as invite new ones.

An under appreciated gem. It's money well spent........2007-07-17
Faulkner starts you at a raucous New Orleans street parade, careens through drug wars in "Chula Town", then drives through Memphis for a blues session with "Dr. John" & James Govan. What a tour de force! The machine gun tempo of "Too Much TV" is matched by it's hilarious lyrics. Faulkner is a masterful composer, a title that most modern "singer-song writers" cannot legitimately claim. His accoustic pallet mixes electric and slide guitar, brass, accordian, accoustic guitar, & killer percussion. Excellent stuff. The final "Vaya con Dios" is breath-takingly fresh, reminding us of what is truly important in life. What power! It's nothing less than an rock anthem of the Southwest.

This slice of Texi-Mexi-Cajun-Rockin' Rhythm & Blues, inspired by Tom Faulkner's true-life experiences, continues to grow word-of-mouth as fans the world over rejoice in one of the finest adult pop albums of the last few years. Daily unsolicited radio airplay continues coast-to-coast as well as all over Europe; a testament to the timelessness of this masterpiece.

If One Could Only Award 6 Stars..............2005-07-24
You just can't believe how perfect this album is. Have a listen to the samples, sure, but to really get a feel for the superlative recording quality and craftmanship of each and every song....you gotta own the album.
Borderlands Stories.......2004-09-03
Lost in the Land of Texico is well named. In this collection of songs Tom Faulkner explores the cultures and landscapes in the borderlands of South Texas. This is rich territory that has been covered in other ways by the Texas Tornados, Robert Earl Keen and so many others.
Trying to find words to describe what this CD sounds like, I keep coming back to Ry Cooder, who also often explores the intersections between cultures. Like Cooder, Faulkner paints dramatic images; colorful and lively on "Do Bea's Dance", and stark and haunting on "Angelina." A movie producer who couldn't afford to hire Ry Cooder or Randy Newman would do well to have Faulkner for his soundtrack. If "Angelina" played during the opening credits of a movie, you would know you were about to see a story of great truth and beauty.
The sound is built around Tom Faulkner's voice and guitar, which would stand well on their own. Faulkner isn't one of the small handful of singers who make your hair stand on end, but he does draw you in with a warm, softly gritty baritone, and his notes are true. The guitar is very confident but doesn't overpower, and the accompaniment adds textures without getting in the way. These are not complex arrangements, just simple things done well. The sound quality is very high.
There are stories, and a whole way of life, in this collection. This is a fine recording that will stand up well over time

Most CD's you're lucky if you find one or two good songs. Every single song on this CD is a keeper. The only question is which ones you like better. Although the word unique is over used today, this album is a unique blend of Texan, Cajun and R&B with a little rock and roll and ballad thrown in for good measure. You're gonna' love it, and Tom's new CD, "Raise the Roof" is even better. It features Dr. John and James Govan on a hard driving tribute, "Blues Across America." Pick up both of these, you won't regret it.
Like the Land that inspired...boozy blend of smooth Texas.......2004-02-22
Tom Faulkner serves up blues, zydeco, hill-country folk, alt-country rock all in one spoonful--Texas style clean and smoking. The inside cover of "Lost in the Land of Texico," reveals a section of a map centered around a fairly inhospitable and sparsely inhabited region of West Texas surrounding Ft. Stockton. This land like Faulkner's music may go unnoticed, but if you take the time to find it, you'll discover some hidden gems.
Faulkner's "Lost in the Land of Texico," has smoke in the air or a border road house while still maintaining the clean air of Texas hill country nights outside in a small amphitheater under the stars eating chips and salsa and drinking Shiner Bock. The production is polished and playing snappy and crystal clear. Though appreciated by many music listeners, it detracts to a small degree that cantina play feel that Faulkner's songwriting seems to draw from. There's nothing wrong with laying first cuts down on the master...it often time comes off sounding more real and directly delivered from the soul.
This album falls short of five stars, but for a largely undiscovered taste of Texicana pick up Faulkner's "Land of Texico." For a five-star Texas musical treatment I highly recommend most anything by Robert Earl Keen or Townes Van Zandt.
quintessential tex-mex music.......2003-09-19
a mixture of melodic ballads and foot-stompin'rockers--great lyrics, music, instrumentation, and faulkner's singing make this one a real keeper.
