5 out of 5 stars Cooper Union, 1999 and how I discover Happy hardcore .......2005-10-15

First and foremost... happy hardcore is flat out chessy, corny, silly, cartoony and obnoxious.... and THAT'S WHY IM LOVIN' IT! (((keep makin noise makin noise makin noise noise keep noise makin noise makin noise mother %&$^&%90 laLalalalalala)))))..

Sorry im losing it here a bit... between chapter 4 and 6 it's completly marninating my brain here... all thanks to a girl that I never really talk to back In Cooper Union (saturday portfolio class)in New York City, 1999... on the last day of a year long art program.. there she stood with her bandana, tank top and baggy pants next to an old school boom box and right there...she flip out what it was recently back then CHAPTER 2. The first track it play shot me between the eye and nearly crapped myself in my pants... it was the illest and craziest sound that ever tapped into my ear drums... seriously without this girl, HISTORY would change for me!! what would I listen too in exhange from H2BH .. this is amazingly turly underground tech music.. In a city where the legions of hip hop/rap, maintstream pop and commercail radio rule the airwaves (sometimes illegally pay to play practices ) I will say again that I would never knew about this kind of sound without having heard this CD ( chapter 2 )from this girl.. so i nod my head to you and thank you who ever you are for giving this artist a happy happy joy joy feeling inside while the rest of this country is about to be fried to hell thorugh Prez Bush dyfunctional administration ....big ups to all the cheese headz out there....Happy HuLLaBaloo! and Yes, I would like to refill my Prozac prescription please.

5 out of 5 stars Anabolic Frolic Rules!.......2004-01-21

I own most of the Happy 2b Hardcore Cd's, and i think that this one is one of the best. My favorite tracks are 1,2,3,4,12,13,14. 13 and 14 are the best though! If you like happy hardcore get CD's #3 and #4 too. Three is the best! I had never heard of Happy Hardcore music before I got #3 at a thrift store and I fell in love with it.

4 out of 5 stars Feels so good.......2003-11-17

I own all the Happy2bHardcore cds, and I have to say that this chapter is pretty f*ckin tight, and is my second favorite overall (second to #3, which is just crazy).

The only song I'm not so crazy about is actually the first one. It starts the cd off very slow and then really takes its time getting up to speed...just doesnt work for my short attention span:)

After the opener however, it really kicks into high gear as the next 5 songs are just amazing. Songs 2-6 are not all HappyCore..."Turn Up the Music" is kinda somber and "Euphoric State" almost sounds like acid house to me. They are blended flawlessly (duh) by Frolic though, and together create a musical expirience not to be missed...I'm not kidding!

...I skip track 7..."Toy Town" just sounds too girly to me, even for Happy Hardcore.

The final 8 songs are all very good though, just not quite as strong as the first half of the cd (almost though). Standouts include tracks 8, especially 10&11, and 14...they've all been stuck in my head at one time or another.

All in all, this is a VERY tight cd. Probably not for everyone, but if you enjoy fast, upbeat music that will make you move and feel good, then buy this cd...as it will have you doing both quite easily.

4 out of 5 stars Not to be conffused.......2003-09-08

This is, just as its title says "Happy Hardcore". While still not a mainstream media as others, it does have its place. But more to the point of this review, There is Happy Hardcore, Terror, Hardcore, Terror-core, and others, This is the "Light" version of the genere more commonly know as Gabber. Check out ... for more on the other genre's.

This is however, good if you want a more melow form of the "Hardcore" sub-genre. For those who want more agressive stance check out, DHT Virus VA compulation, Any "Hellraiser" or Rotterdamn Terror Corps.

5 out of 5 stars Hardcore at it's absolute prime.......2003-05-06

Questionably one of the greatest techno mix CD's ever produced, unquestionably the greatest hardcore CD ever produced. With this chapter in the Happy 2b Hardcore series we see Frolic go with the flow as the Happier side of Hardcore (cheese) dies out and a sort of Trancecore appears. This cd is timeless in the respect that we see the tracks aren't too cheesy but at the same time aren't too progressive...I believe that tracks released around 2000 showcase what hardcore techno is all about. Here's the breakdown-

1. Kaos & Ethos - Drift on a Dream
The first release on Future Dance records starts the CD off and is a perfect opening track for any mix - starting out with slow BPM and building up to the 175 blast of hardcore. Kaos and Ethos really nail the vibe with this superb track.

2. Visa - All I Need (remix by Soaked/Kaos)
The mix into the 2nd track is the best mix I have ever heard. These tracks go together like legos. This track maintains and elevates the vibe set by the opener, one of my favorites.

3. Scott Brown - Turn up the Music
While at first this track is hard to get into since it changes the vibe a bit (going from happy to more somber trance melodies), you'll love it more and more as you realize its brilliance. One of Mr. Brown's first Trancecore releases, standing out the wave of Happycore being released on his label previous to this gem.

4. UFO - Deep Inside
Blasting right back into upbeat. This is a track you don't really love until you hear remixes that don't even reach the same level as the original. This track established UFO as a major producer of quality hardcore; he's now dropping hit after hit on Hixxy's Raverbaby.

5. Breeze ft. MC Storm - Jump a Little Higher
I have the original track by Breeze and this mix takes a good old school song and gives it the perfect new school twist, along with the rhymes of MC Storm.

6. DNA - Euphoric State
DNA is the man. I believe this is his last solo production, and what a way to go out. High quality new school happycore.

7. Hixxy & Sharkey - Toytown (vocal remix)
Toytown is an old school anthem and this remix updates the melodies and adds vocals. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan; I think toytown should remain totally old school. This is pretty much the only track on the cd I don't care much for...every silver lining has a cloud in this case.

8. Q-Tex - Roll the Track
While the cd credits Interstate this track was actually produced by Q-Tex (both are Scott Brown's bands). Pure upbeat trancecore madness. The melody will definetly get you rushing. A great track that grows on you very quickly.

9. Force & Styles - Look at me now
A rarity in hardcore - vocals by a male. The only other track I can think of was feelin' fine by Unique, which just happens to be another name for Force & Styles...while that track was IMO a bit sketchy, this track is quite solid.

10. Slam & Helix - Influence
The closest thing to trance on the cd. A great & haunting piano melody with some quick stabs accompanied by a beat reminiscent of old school / jungle.

11. UFO & STU J - Flyin High (unknown remix)
Amazing. While the cd has thus far been quite superior, it's these last few tracks, starting with this masterpiece, that really put it on a level above...well everything. This track cannot be found at all outside of this mix. Believe me I've looked, I have the original track on man from uncle records and the jelly baby mixes, none compare, so enjoy it as you can.

12. HAM & DNA - About U
Great beat, great vocals, great melody, great sample (keep makin noise...), great track.

13. Midas - Can't Stop Thinking About You (brisk remix)
A very justifying remix of a very old school track. This incredible mix still has an old school feel but just makes you rush like crazy in the new school way. Few can compare. The most rapid vibe on the CD by far.

14. Hixxy - Come Together
The climax. While Hixxy is criticized by some as being too soft for hardcore in terms of beat (the kick in his tracks is admittedly a bit soft), this track just slams. What a great synth melody and what a great vocalist. This track will get you rushing like crazy.

15. Force & Styles - Make Believe
This track is the flipside of look at me now, and in my opinion is superior. A great final track with mellow vocals and synths and a perfect outro for closing a mix. Sort of like pillow talk after getting rocked by come together.

Buy this cd and listen to it until it becomes integrated into your brain...life will seem much better and more manageable somehow. Quite a deal for under 20 bucks...

3 out of 5 stars Good, but ancient........2006-03-13

To be absolutely honest-this is terrible when compared to MODERN (2005-2006) happy hardcore music. This CD was the beginning of a genre which was just learning proper form. Also, keep in mind, music synthesis technology in 1997 was not what is today in 2006 (then imagine where we'll be later on). With all that stated, here is some actually information on the album:

Happy2Hardcore is full of music pushing the tempo meter beyond what most people would enjoy listening to, and yet the music is well mixed and fun (though cheesy is a good description). DJ Anabolic Frolic is a very talented DJ (better in his later works) and there are no mixing flaws in this whatsoever.

If you enjoy the retro-techno sound, then this disc if for you, but if you find yourself a fan of DJ Tiesto, and expect that sound out of this disc, try something else. Don't buy this CD if you are new to the genre of electronic music (the non-pop stuff), or have little appreciation of experimental music.

5 out of 5 stars It opened up Americas eyes.......2005-01-09

Chris Samojlenko aka Anbolic Frolic set off his H2BH series with this golden album. Funny how this album has an old skool feel yet produced in January 1997. Some tracks date back to 1992. For those whom know. It was his first and it wouldn't be his last.
Much respect Chris!

2 out of 5 stars Hmmmmm.......2004-08-08

Hehe.... One time someone told this CD was made to be hated.. LOL.... The CD isnt all that bad (I've heard worse). I mean I can stand some songs. Its really because I'm a trancefreak BIG TIME! Never did acquire a taste happy hardcore....sounds like house on speed. I really dont recommend this CD at all...dont waste your money (I didnt... friend gave it to me.... now i know why he gave it away...lol), but if you're into all that jazz, dive right in.

5 out of 5 stars WHAM BAM HAPPYCORE!!!!.......2004-01-28

This cd takes it back to the days of tru in your face happycore!!! Of course, the best way to hear this is with a giant speaker set up and all your friends dancin with you!!! but its great to listen to and imagine the good times :0D This is very differant from the UK Hardcore they got comin out now, and although i love UK Hardcore too, this will always always have a special place in my heart!!! Gotta love that cheese!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Old Skool!.......2003-10-30

Happy 2B Hardcore Chapter One is great! If you were partying back in the day or want something that sounds like you were, then this is it. It's fab and it's super upbeat. They don't make happycore like this anymore. The beat is fast and the lyrics are fun. It never gets old for me.

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't Get Better.......2004-03-29

My brother is a techno dj, got me hooked on H2bH, and chapter 3 was the first CD in the series I'd heard. I'm listening to chapter 7 (which I just bought today) and it's great, but BY FAR chapter 3 is my favorite - it really grabs you and makes you get up!! I'd love to tell you my favorite song but I love all of them...Sensation and the track after it are kind of a lull but it picks up again and ends with just as much energy as it started with. Overall, terrific. I didn't know anything about electronic music before I'd heard it but H2bH 3 turned me into a lover of electronic!

If you're even the slightest bit into it, H2bH three will hook you and you'll never go back!! ;)

5 out of 5 stars The Best of the Series.......2003-11-17

I'll start off by saying that I own all 7 cds in this series, and this one is the best by far. Anabolic Frolic really outdid himself with this one...easily one of my top 10 cds of all time (not exaggerating).

The first 8(!) songs are all just crazy good. "Break of Dawn", "Eurolove"...I'm not gonna name em all, but sheesh...too cool. They'd all be 9's and even a few 10's if I had to rate 'em.

I wont lie to you now, songs 9-12 are kind of a drop off point in my mind. All are just "average-slightly above average" songs. It seems all his cds do this toward the middle...makes me sad:(

Dont worry though because song 13, Demo's - Pleasure and Pain, kicks it back up a notch. 7.5 rated song I think.

And then...the finale. The next 2 songs: "Eyeopener" by Brisk and Trixxy and then Hyperactive's "Let Me Play" are just SO unbelievable. Eyeopener is, hands down, the best Happy Hardcore song ever. And then follow it up with the male/female swaping vocals and INSANE happy beat of Let Me Play. I can't help but shake my head in amazment and grin when I hear those 2 back to back. I would pay twenty bucks just for a cd with these 2 songs.

In the end I'll say that without those 4 songs in the middle, this would be an absolute perfect cd. Its still very much a 5 star disc though because every other songs is still...godly, and they EASILY hold the weight of those few duds.

5 out of 5 stars a new sound of hardcore.......2002-12-22

this cd starts off with the early sounds of trancecore "distant skies", " sunrize", and "dont got away" are just some examples. there is still some old skool on here, but the entire cd is only 172 bpm, the slowest in the set, but this cd features some good anthems though, "eyeopener" being the best. check it out if you wanna hear the beginning sounds of trancecore

5 out of 5 stars last night, this CD saved my life.......2002-11-22

this is my absolute favorite cd. when i first heard it three years ago, i couldn't stop listening to it. it made me fall in love with happy hardcore and made me buy every hhc available in vancouver!

hey ppl yall forget what i said about the cd reaching the 140 bpm limit. this cd is 172 beats per minute ALL THE WAY THROUGH! this is actually the slowest in the serires but hey, its still good.

Album Description

Once again, Canada's Anabolic Frolic is back to mix up the best of the best Happy Hardcore artists. Super fast uplifting vocals, orchestral breakdowns and pounding bass lines that never dip below 140 beats per minute. This is the best one yet. We thought that number 6 would be the last one, but hey... you wanted more!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2005-03-25

I have every cd in the Happy 2b Hardcore series and this one is definatly a winner! I agree with the persons comment above about "Till the Day" by brisk. Although I've gotten allot of the lyrics it's near impossible to understand a few of the words (or even lines.) Wish I could find the lyrics but all search attempts have failed!

Highly reccommend the cd.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2004-12-14

If you enjoy happy hardcore (a variant of the techno/trance genre), you'll love this cd. The majority of these songs, you'll want to listen to over and over...and there, of course, is always one or two that could be (MUCH) better, BUT ARE STILL GOOD. This is my first Happy 2b Hardcore album, and I think it's a great album for others to start out with too!

One unique thing, that I personally think isn't that good, is that one song fades into another. This isn't bad...UNLESS, you've got two songs that sound quite different, and/or you've got a long transition time. That's one thing I didn't like.

All the lyrics (not much really) were good, but some songs could use a better singer for how nice the song sounds (example: Force & Style's 'Follow Me').

5 out of 5 stars My First CD of Happy Hardcore... I'm impressed........2004-09-13

Well I'm pretty new to the happy-hardcore scene. I'm mostly into trance... but I thought some happy hardcore music was fun, so I decided to get this CD. This is my FIRST cd like this... and I believe I bought the right one.

Excellent songs all the way through. It just makes me wanna jump around because the music is so much fun. Most if not all songs on this Cd I like, but the one that really stands out to me is "Till the Day" by Brisk. I've listened to this song repeatedly and have managed to get the best of what I could understand from the lyrics. The lyrics are really beautiful if you pay attention to what they say. Also, the melody is very good.

Happy Hardcore is so going on my favorites from now on! :)

5 out of 5 stars A True Masterpiece.......2004-06-19

This album is right up there with the classic greats like chapters four and five. Chapter seven blew my mind, especially after hearing chapter six, which I think kinda sucked. Every song is exquisite, and the songs with weak points have amazing vocals or midsections to make up for whichever feature was lacking. My favorites on this cd are definitely Fly With You, My Way (has an awesome midsection but kinda lacks), and You're Shining." I'm not a big fan of Just Accept It; it's too justifying of using drugs for my taste. Other than that this is a must have for any happycore fan.

Happy hardcore lives! Happy 2b Hardcore: Chapter 4, a compilation mixed by Anabolic Frolic, brings all the frenetic thrills associated with this extreme subgenre. Aggressively tactless, happy hardcore embraces all that is cheesy. Overly familiar movie themes, saccharine vocal melodies, and monomaniacal synth riffs are all put to wacky use in this 70-minute pulsefest of over-amped fun. The relentless beat, forever flirting with 200 bpms, is broken up only by an occasional drum & bass attack. Mr. X's "Hear Me," truly demented and inspired stuff, amazes with its sped-up vocals and piano playing. "I Want You," by BDB, is worth a listen just to check out the remarkable way vocalist Lisa enunciates the word "fantasy." "Clearly Now" by Frisky features Daniella singing a pretty melody, but also sports super-agitated keyboards. The whole disc is a spectacle of jittery, fidgety rhythm and exuberant chintz. --Fred Cisterna

"Hardcore Don't Stop, Pistol Posse Pump It Up".....that's as cool as an adult with a pacifier in their mouth.

5 out of 5 stars right on!.......2003-12-17

anabolic frolic, what can i say? a great DJ, a great promoter and an all around great guy. this CD has so many anthems... its an absolute must have in any hardcore lover's collection.

4 out of 5 stars You gotta love it..........2003-11-19

Anabolic Frolic is just a bad@ss. I wish he was still making these cds soooo bad, and also that more people could hear them cause they are just amazing. Anyway, this chapter ties with #6 as the second best (nothing touches 3 though:).

This cd is mixed extremelly well and there are many standouts including:

#1 Space Odyssey - Some people dont like this one, but I think its pretty F-ing cool though. You cant deney its a great way to start an album.

#5 All That You See & Hear - Very trippy and intense, I love it.

#6 John Gotti's Revenge - (Heh, see number 1...) Im a sucker for remakes.

#'s 7-10 are just an awesome block of music with #9, Scott Brown's - Elysium, being the best...which has already been stated in every other review:)

#13 Clearly Now - Very upbeat song, so hard sit still when its playing:)

I'm being honest when I say that the other tracks are good too...these ones just really stand out in my mind. Anyway, if you're looking to check out this type of music then this is an excellent place to start. Listen to it right when you wake up. Happy hardcore is probably one of the sub-genres of techno music I haven't really looked into but really should. I bought this cd a few years ago out of curiousity. And recently I have been listening to this cd quite a bit. I love the combination of frenatic techno beats with heavenly vocals and melodies. This is really great album to start your night of nightclubbing with. I particularly loved "John Gotti's Revenge", "Everytime I Close My Eyes", and "Clearly Now", especially the last two tracks with the female vocals. I can totally hear this sort of music used on soundtracks for video games. After rediscovering this cd,I really need to hear the other cds Anabolic Frolic mixed. I thought he did a great job with chapter four.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Chapters.......2002-12-24

This chapter is one of the best out of the collection. I would have to say 2nd best though. Chapter 5 out tops this one just a tad but thats my opinion. This chapter is not too weak but not too strong. Its just straight up Happy Hardcore sound. Heres my thoughts on the track listing... [note:I rated the tracks from one to ten at the end of the discription.]

Space Odyessy- Good song. Its basically the Star Trak theme but Its cool how they mixed it up to sound good.7

Everytime I close my eyes - If you like happy hardcore love songs, then this is a good one. Its fast but the woman who sings it is great.8

Better Day - One of the shorter songs on the album and alright.7

Hear Me- really fast song. It would keep you moving if you danced to it. Another alright song.6

All that you see and hear - One of the most tripped out happy hardcore songs I've heard. Its LSDed out. Someone was on Acid when they made it, but its still an awesome song.8

John Gotti's Revenge- This is another theme song. I think its from the Godfather movie, I'm not sure, but it sounds so familiar. Another alright song, if you like break beat.5

Ravers Anthem- More like the Happy Hardcore Anthem. They couldn't of made this song any better.7

Run to me- One of the best songs on the album. Once again, its a very fast paced song.7

Elysium- Best song on the album. This song is what made me love the album so much. Its a dream like song. AWESOME!10

Love of my life - Second best song on album. Another happy hardcore love song.9

I want you- A song that you wish would go on forever.9

Mirror of love- Alright, but the woman on the song doesn't sing all that great but it doesn't ruin the song.7

Clearly Now - Best fast paced song on the album.8

Give me a reason - Good song, but it had some parts in it that kind of ruined it.8

See me climb - If you like happy sounds, then this is the song right here. Cool background noises. 9

5 out of 5 stars Best Happy Hardcore.......2007-04-08

I know exactly why the other happy hardcore ppl gave this a bad review...cos it's not "fast" enough or "cheesy" enough. This is indeed the more serious of the happy hardcore chapters and that's why it's the best. I think that the mix is perfect and the songs are much more sophisticated which makes it tolerable to people who don't usually listen to happy hardcore.
This is just a great cd, I love all the songs, especially tracks 1, 5, 12, 13, 14, and 15.
buy this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Happy 2b Hardcore is my Heart & Soul!!!!!!.......2004-08-06

I must just say, that as soon as I put chapter 5 in my player I was thrilled! Everything I could've hoped for as a happy 2b hardcore fan. Those who gave it low ratings are absolutely crazy! It has the upbeat feelings I've come to expect. Beautiful and uplifting, makes me want to dance! Listening to it I know what heaven must feel like! Of course chapter 3 is a CLASSIC and all must own that as well, but I would say I love all chapters!

5 out of 5 stars Great Nu-Style Happy Hardcore Mix!!!!.......2004-05-22

Anabolic Frolic is the best North American Hardcore DJ, and every CD in this collection is worthy of 5 stars. You simply must have them all! This Cd has plenty of great tracks: Blue Moon, Sail Away, Pilgrim 2000, Sunshine, Into Oblivion (the bass on this one is crazy!), Space Invader, Lost Generation.
By the way: If you want a great, upbeat, happy Old Skool CD, then check out Force & Styles Old Skool mix on Original Hardcore 2: The battle. It's better than any other CD in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Happy to be, well, hardcore!.......2004-04-22

This was the Happy Hardcore CD that got me started, and I love it. I don't know why people complain that the style changes from CD to CD; seven CDs of the same stuff would get awfully boring! I own the entire series and love them all.

2 out of 5 stars Awwwwww..........2003-11-18

I think this is probably my least favorite disc in the Happy Hardcore series. Pretty much ever song on here seems very flat and weak/hollow compared to any of the songs on the other cds.

As another reviewer pointed out, there is definately not enough "cheese" on here...its too serious. Even the Scott Brown and Bang! tracks are weak in my opinion...the only reason it gets 2 stars is because it belongs to one of the coolest series of cds ever.

Hmmm...its kinda tough to write a review for a cd you dont like. I wil say this...Every once in a while I'll pop it back in to see if it might grow on me, but it always falls way short:( Anyway, if you're want to get into Happy Hardcore get #3 or #6 in the series. Get this one last, if at all, or it may discourage you from buying the rest of 'em.
