4 out of 5 stars Dance the night away.......2007-08-02

This is a collection of dance tunes covering the seventies through the early nineties and ranging from disco and soul to new wave and club. These tracks were chart toppers in any combination of the pop, R&B or dance charts-some, all three. "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang and Irene Cara's "Fame" are in their LP versions and "Breakin..There's No Stopping Us" by Ollie & Jerry is a track from the breakdancing craze of the mid eighties. The eco friendly packaging is very unique-these titles are packaged in recycled board and biodegradable trays. At least you won't have to worry about replacing jewel cases.

If you like dance music then you'll enjoy this great collection. It will keep you dancing all throughout. If not, then something's wrong with you.

4 out of 5 stars Cool.......2005-09-04

Well, forget everything you heard about Corner simply wanting to be like Radiohead. This album pretty much takes the early industrial (I'm not talking about NIN), lite trip hop, and 80's flavorings that cropped up in Bloodsport and takes it to the extreme. His voice might seem a little much after a while, but I made it through the first 1 1/2 listens before it got a bit annoying in a single sitting. At least he knows how to use his voice qualities and limitations properly, unlike a lot of people who don't capitalize on their strengths and stay away from their weaknesses as they should. It might seem like gimmickry, but that's kind of the whole point of using your voice as a hook. The weird gay heroine addict theme of the photography might throw some people off, but the guy's just skinny, likes funky fo-hawks (read that: really big bed hair), and the color pink. Can't blame a guy for that.

    Album Description

New full length album by the Dutch sonic devil Bong-Ra. Signing here an upcoming classic of the genre, full of a mature, accessible sound relying on demonic basses and monstrous riffing, and enlisting such vocalists as Atari Teenage Riot's Hanin Elias, Drop The Lime and Mike Redman. Bong-Ra proves here that downtempo can be as suffocating, sinister and efficient as hectic BPMs, and focus on twisting his trademark rave stabs into a mean and wicked dance floor marvel. Very Friend. 2005.

    5 out of 5 stars Great sound!.......2001-12-14

I love the sound that heard on this record. First I heard about this record in Zero mag from San Jose and then went and got a copy. Spacewalkers has some great house tracks, with great production, radio friendly as hell! Then Cynyc wow, dark and "electro-dramatic", moves me back and forth! Get it if you enjoy quality.

5 out of 5 stars warm sounds from the one and only.......2007-07-20

"The Warmth Inside You" was silently released by ex-Seefeel producer Mark Van Hoen (aka Locust) in 2004 on the Very Friendly label, distributed by Caroline. Where his previous releases on the excellent Touch label were propelled by the somewhat vague and cryptic photography on the album covers, once again, the sleeve art plays a key role in this release, in the form of a more specific painting. Not to say his music can't hold its own minus the visuals--far from it. The visuals, as with much electronic music and more instrumental fare simply serve as a mental starting point to associate with the music on disc. Much like the painting, there is a subtle disquiet going on throughout the eight compositions, starting with the slow, creeping track "He Run Far" and continuing at a more "casual" pace than his previous efforts. On track six, "The Help Without You" lightens things up some, with an almost Eastern Asian percussion line soon joined by sunnier sounding melodies. The beats on this release aren't nearly as hard hitting as his earlier stuff, and there is no filler or long (to some, self-indulgent) excursions into piano ambience. In fact it's a somewhat lean relase from Mr. Van Hoen, clocking in at around 45 minutes. Like all of Van Hoen's work, the music glistens and shimmers with a curious balance of comforting calm and haunting melancholy. Inspired, inspiring, beautiful and at times chill inducing (in a more spooky manner than relaxing), the tones, patterns, rhythms, basslines and melodies of this music projects the marvelous inner-workings of a reflective mind and the machines it controls. I'd highly reccomend this one for folks into more "mature" electronic and instrumental music due to it's subtle pacing. Still, anyone with even a slightly open mind should find plenty to offer from this fine collection of music.

      Album Description

Nigh-on three years after 'folly' and at least 18 moons since the john peel session where the ideas were first aired, Darren Durham returns under the fortdax moniker with his somewhat-overdue new album. No, he's not entirely sure where the time went either…what can be said for certain though is that 'divers' is noticeably different in to & hue to its predecessor and assuredly darker, although its core, as with previous fortdax releases, remains firmly rooted in melody. Folly' went on to be regarded as an 'ambient' work in certain quarter, but Darren swears that this was largely due to the low-volume mastering. Suffice it to say that 'divers' contains less of 'those Vangelis synthesizers' and a sleeve instruction to play much louder'. This time around, there may also be other musicians involved, an amount of real (read 'physical') instrumentation, and at least one field recording from the Bronte country valley where he lives & works. As per 'folly', the album is dedicated to his dog 'meg' although as with his geographical placement, that's not necessarlly significant. Very Frien. 2006

        Album Description

Fat! Records have cause for celebration: the release of the very first in a series of Chew the Fat! compilations. Not happy with simply bringing you the best breakbeat party every month in The End's main room, Fat! Records have purified the essence of Chew the Fat, and brought it home to a ghetto blaster near you.

Over the many years since its conception, Chew the Fat! has played host to all the major players in the breaks scene - Plump DJ's, Adam Freeland, Stanton Warriors, Soul of Man, Tayo, Drumattic Twins, Evil 9, the list goes on. All of them and more have played an integral part of the incredible journey that has been Chew the Fat! But perhaps none of them have been such a fundamental part of the enterprise, so completely expressive of the Chew the Fat! sound and party experience as Chew the Fat! resident - Friendly.

After being awarded `best newcomer' at Breakspoll in early 2004, Friendly went on to release a string of increasingly Fat tracks and bootlegs throughout the year, each one a speaker tweaking, ear crunching, butt wiggling, breaks dancefloor bomb. On the DJ front, Friendly's sets at Chew the Fat! and around the world have been peak time, hands in the air, grinning, gurning, monsters and no-one can deny that this breakbeat maestro has the skills to solidly rock any party. Now he serves up a feast of party tracks and deeper rumblings in his own signature style on this compilation.

Featured in this mix are some of Friendly's all time fave tracks such as Zoot Woman's "Grey Day", Rennie Pilgrem and Uberzone- "Cous Cous", Plump DJ's "Bullet Train", Soul of Man "Shake Em Down. "There's a good mix of old and new in there- some exclusives, some not released, mixed in with some classic cuts from the past few years, a few that slipped under the radar and a few that can definitely do with another airing"

The Chew the Fat! Friendly compilation is set to have a place in the hearts of breaks lovers worldwide. It embodies all the very best things about the breakbeat culture today… good times, irreverent fun, and funk fuelled party moments. It's funky and tough at the same time, driving, but never boring, and packed full of personality and originality. Diet starts tomorrow, today let's get Fat!

Friendly (aka Andrew Kornweibel) is from the sunny West Coast of Australia, and this sunshine pours through his happy electronic sounds. Mixed up disco, funk and poppy beats with catchy samples gives a really listenable and lovable sound to his music. MY MOTHER WAS A DEEJAY was his first big club success in Australia, and this CD features 3 remixes of this infectious track- for my money the best dancing track is the Tuff Boogie remix with hard beats under the grooy bass and vocals. However, my favourite track on this single is actually the bonus one: SUNSHINE ON MY STEREO. This track is more typical of the irresistably cute dance music Friendly has gone on to produce on his album. Overall, a good buy, but not if you haven't already got the album.
