For the bride desiring classical repertoire at her wedding, and who's lucky enough to have access to a proficient organist (and a decent instrument), this is an excellent CD to audition. Newman is a world-class performer, but most of the selections should be within the grasp of any trained, degreed organist. These are NOT pieces you'd ask the little old lady at the Methodist church to play on her Hammond!

As a musician and music lover, I have looked extensively for the right music for my traditional wedding ceremony with a couple of twists. So tired of the traditional bridal march, I chose Rigaudon as my entrance. This CD has good-quality sound, able musicianship, and 28 selections from which to choose. The organ is the best instrument in a cathedral to inspire the congregants. The bass tones are not too throaty, and the high pitches are clear, yet pleasing to the ear.

This compilation is better than some others in that it is all played on organ, has so many selections, and the overall feel is regal and celebratory.

4 out of 5 stars Serious Classical Wedding Music.......2002-03-04

Most of the "wedding" albums are filled with a 15 - 30 of the 50 or so greatest classical wedding hits. Sample the albums on line before you buy. In fact, if the budget is tight, you can do the whole selection process on line by just playing the samples. First consider the instruments that you plan to use - organ, piano, guitar, brass ensemble, whatever. The instrument of course will have much to say about what to consider. Then select albums that have the selections played on the instrument(s) you are expecting to use. An organ is quite versatile of course and can handle anything for a keyboard and even does nicely for the festive trumpet in case your marching band first trumpet is tied up doing lifeguard duty.

My daughter and I have been serious music lovers and amateur pianists, violinist (she only), organist (I only), and singers. Since our church has a very good new electronic organ that can simulate very well the rich tones of a real pipe organ, we are looking for some heavy duty music for organ.

Listen to the sample from item 5, the Rondeau from Abdelazer by Henry Purcell. Play it loud and imagine it as a recessional - with the bride and groom waiting to turn around until the first repetition of the magnificent theme.

This is the only wedding album I found with this Rondeau arranged for organ. Many other albums have this selection played by a small chamber orchestra. That's the way it was written, but we won't be paying for an orchestra in church. And it's magnificent on organ.

We will be using item 21, Where'er You Walk from Handel's Semele as well. It is a beautiful tenor aria with words that are just right. Look around for the words on the Internet - great poetry, and a great love song with stong religious meaning as well.

The pristine tones and lilting melodies of the Celtic harp are immediately inviting. Celtic Harpestry, a companion to a PBS performance special, explores a sound both traditional and modern in a tasteful and evocative collection. This isn't a purist's album--half of the harpists aren't even from the Celtic isles, and among the album's old Irish chestnuts is "My Heart Will Go On," the love theme from Titanic. The otherwise-joyful Belfast Harp Orchestra tromp through the James Horner tune, almost pulling some subtlety out of its overwrought themes. Turlough O'Carolan, the blind patron saint of the Celtic harp, might wish he were deaf as well, if he could hear it. But the bard would be thrilled to hear the 12-piece BHO playing the traditional "Brian Boru's Set" or one of founder Janet Harbison's zephyrlike originals. Her "Earth, Water, Wind and Fire" elicits shifting textures and colors that belie their traditional roots. The song also exemplifies the ethereal side of the Celtic harp explored on Celtic Harpestry with artists like Rüdiger Oppermann. Playing a wire-strung harp accompanied by bass and keyboards, the German harpist soars through crystalline melodies whether he's playing traditional tunes or originals. The most traditional sound actually comes from the American players. Cheryl Ann Fulton gives a straight-up rendition of "Breton Medley," and jazz harpist Deborah Henson-Conant is refreshingly restrained, faithfully rendering "Londonderry Aire (Danny Boy)" and "The Minstrel Boy." Although Celtic Harpestry focuses on slow airs, there are robust performances here, including those by Máire Ni Chathasaigh's group and the harp and vocal duo of Sileas. Outside of the Titanic love theme, Celtic Harpestry is an elegantly wrought collection. --John Diliberto

Hard rock it ain't. Celtic Harpestry: A Contemporary Celtic Collection may cite "contemporary" in its title, but the style is classic. Rich harmonies and intricate musical textures rise to a crescendo in "Earth, Water, Wind And Fire," the final cut, performed by the Belfast Harp Orchestra.

This collection overlaps several genres. Celtic, classical and New Age meet in what may be the instrument most associated with classical melodies.

If you are a fan of Rap or Hip Hop, keep looking. If you want a hoedown, this is not going to be your cuppa joe. But if you are looking for something elegant - background music for a business or important meeting, for example - this is a wonderful, understated choice.

A sibling to "Harpestry," this is a wonderful cd. I am a harper and head up a Celtic Harp Choir at my church (I'm a fulltime church music director), and I have used this cd as a model for my musicians. It's very pleasant to listen to, and you definitely get a good feel for the Celtic style. I highly recommend this!

This uplifting compilation CD from Imaginary Road Records, actually the soundtrack to the public television special "Celtic Harpestry at Lismore Castle, Ireland", is simply beautiful. Especially wonderful are the five numbers by the Belfast Harp Orchestra, an ensemble of 12 harpists who demonstrate remarkable intonation and stunning coordination as they play together on instruments that are difficult enough just to play alone. What a great concept, and what great musicianship! Also featured are individual performers such as Maire Ni Chathasaigh on Irish harp, Rudiger Oppermann on wire-strung harp, Cheryl Ann Fulton on a contemporary lever harp, the harp and song duo Sileas, and Deborah Henson-Conant on a "Camac `Baby Blue' Celtic electroharp". Other instruments, including Uilleann pipes and whistle, violin, viola and concertina, occasionally join in, but the focus is on the harp itself. In all its many forms and combinations, the harpestry on this recording remains soothingly delicate in timbre while at the same time scintillating in technique--in short, a pure delight. If you enjoy "Celtic Harpesty", you're sure to like it's companion release, "Harpestry: A Contemporary Collection", featuring more of a worldwide assortment of harpers. Another great harp compilation CD is "Faces of the Harp" from Narada.

I always had a desire to learn to play the Celtic harp...and the PBS special and especially this CD made that desire boil over. Don't buy another harp CD before you've listened to this one!
No matter how many times I have listened to this recording, I ALWAYS break into a smile when the Belfast Harp Orchestra begins to play. Nothing prepares you for that 12-harp sound!

One day in a music shop, my hand knocked three CDs off of a rack. The first CD, though the case was cracked, caught my eye. I bought it five minutes later. In this sweetly harmonized collection, nearly all the songs are wonderful. I would have bought the CD for only My Heart Will Go On-the song is a skillful take of the Titanic (movie) theme, and it seems almost to have a voice of its own. This is a must-have for any harp music lover!

    Some say lights out. This by far is my favorite. Infectious,heavy dark rhythms. I simply can't listen to this loud enough. For perspective,no heavy petting is my 2nd choice. I have been a fan since 72. It's special a band can make it to the top and fade into obscurity,then lay a bunch of eggs only to strike creative platinum. This is a timeless collection of songs.

    Saw them on this tour in a small club setting. Never heard any of these songs prior to show. Venus really stood out live and all the new songs blended perfectly with the old stuff. I mean, I'm standing about 10 feet from the stage, it's not really too crowded, and I'm holding a beer and re-living all my UFO memories while being blown away by these new songs. Schenker, Moog, Way and the boys even hung out after the show and greeted everybody while signing autographs. I have a copy of Walk On Water signed by everyone and I listen to it very often. (Phil Moog signed it "still alive in '95!"). The best rock show in all my 45 years! Get this CD if you are a UFO fan. A must have.

    After years apart the "classic" UFO lineup offers definitive proof that they still have it. After one listen "Darker Days" & "Self Made Man" were already among my favorite UFO songs of all time which is saying something.

    I haven't listened to the three audio cds all the way through, but I did listen to most of the Eine Kline Nachtmusik. I have the Phillips Duo version which I don't think is included here (It seems like they're a couple years apart), though the Phillips Duo got the coveted rosette from the Penguin Guide To Classical Music, this version on this 3CD Set, is played a little better, and it makes the Duo version sound like it's played in a wet paper sack. The sound is so darn crisp and brilliant that's it's just simply breathtaking. Get this "A Celebration" disc as fast as you can, and you'll thank me! I promise! I kind of listened to a little bit of everything, just to see if the sound quality was as good as the Mozart Serenade, and the sound quality was superb on all the pieces. There's also a bonus DVD which is very enjoyable of the Tchaikovsky Serenade and I'm forgetting the other piece, so in all your getting 4 discs. It sells here on Amazon, but I didn't check the prices it's going for, but I'll check and give you the lowest price. I just checked the used prices, and someone is selling their's for $8.00 like new, so that sounds like the bargain of bargains to me. Enjoy!!!

      I was lucky enough to get this a week ago, in like-new condition ,from Amazon. Fast shipping,too.
      On to the CD. At first listen, I wasn't overly thrilled. Some of Schenker's latest releases are so darn good and this seemed like a step back to a lesser state. BUT...I started breaking it down, note by note,tune by tune, and then I realized I had gotten very lucky getting a copy of this one. I have been a huge fan of the Lights Out album since '77,and I guess I was expecting the next better step, to be slammed in the face. What actually happened was a more gradual realization that these older fellows got together and put out a killer CD. If Lights Out had production like this...man,oh,man! But Schenker plays better on this, and Mogg still has his melodic signature, while the band is "all there".
      They did a great job and I am now very proud to have this in my collection.
      If ya dig Schenker,get a copy while you can.

      They really got it together on this CD. I rarely like it when a band remixes one of their greatest songs. But what they did with "Doctor, Doctor" and "Lights Out" is just perfect! Anyone who is interested in a truly great rock CD should buy this one. I never tire of listening to this CD. I hope that they keep up the hard work that they did on this CD. They were a very good band in the past, but I believe that now they really have it RIGHT! This will always be one of my best CD's in my very large collection. Trust me it's a great rock CD!

      After boxing up all my old albums some years ago it seems I lost touch with UFO over the years except for one greatest hits CD bought several years back. WOW! Where have I been? Walk on Water is GREAT! Best of all it has Michael Schenker and Phill Mogg like the old days. The only reason I don't rate it a five is because i'm still in disbelief. What a great CD! KEEP ON ROCKIN UFO!

      Has to be one of the top 3 albums the band ever did, they took some chances here but they really paid off. Great remake of Lights Out. A lot of reunion albums just don't cut it but this one smokes.

      As a guitarist, I have followed UFO since I first saw them on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert many moons ago at my folks house when I was a kid. I won't say best, though to me I could. If you're a player, it's a fun bonus to play along. These are some of the best ending solos ever. The remakes of Dr. Dr. and Lights Out are great. Wish the earlier stuff had this quality production, too. You won't be dissappointed.

        Yes, this was the first album with Michael Schenker back in the fold. This is an excellent album with great songs and playing throughout. Self Made Man, Venus, Pushed To The Limit, Darker Days and Knock Knock are all pure UFO. The "new" versions of Doctor Doctor and Lights Out are fine, but not really anything new since any fan has heard anywhere from 3 to 5 versions minimum from the different live releases. The additional songs from Mogg/Way, MSG are very solid. the Mogg/Way album Chocolate Box and MSG album Written In The Sand are very good. The Paul Raymond Project song Public Enemy #1 is probably the weakest on this album.
        Overall, this is a great album - one of UFO's best. Definitely buy this album if you are a fan of UFO or great rock n roll in general.

        "Walk on Water" is a great comeback album for what I believe to be one of the greatest rock bands in the world. I rate it a 4 because it doesn't come close to "Force It", "Obsession" or "Lights Out"--albums where Michael Schenker shows his incredible prowess on guitar, alternating between aggressive and subtle notes and chords. Schenker sounds good on this album as it harkens back to the great days of UFO. Buy it!
