Customer Reviews:
Excellent Work; Re-master Badly Needed.......2005-11-11
This CD is unreal. The song selection is excellent and Johnny's guitar playing is the hottest of his post Columbia career. This CD is in BAD need of a remaster. It is listenable and I recommend purchasing. In fact, this is the one CD in my collection that the material is so good it far outways the sound quality. Turn down the treble and crank it up, it's EXCELLENT.
one of best.......2005-11-08
this album would be 5 stars but the tinny tone from his guitar distracts from some of the excellent guitar solos, but beside that this album is excellent, great choice of material and johnny really rips it up on guitar. it the most energized i have heard him since his rick derringer days.
Serious Guitar Playing.......2005-01-04
Johnny Winter is the only guitar player I know who can REALLY ROCK the blues without bastardizing them, and on this cd he rocks them with a ferocious intensity. Unlike so many of the other blues cross-overs in the past 30 to 35 years his playing never gets too artsy, academic, derivative, or obligatory (read obnoxious and/or boring). Amidst his signature brand of blistering machine-gun fretwork there is truckloads of imaginative intelligent playing--sheets of sound tempered by first-rate musicianship. On his cover of Slim Harpo's "It ain't your business" (Johnny loves covering harmonica tunes) he captures the playfulness of the original harmonica solo in the opening salvos and about 36 bars later lays down some of the wickedest combinations of rapid-fire single-note jabs and chords I've ever heard. No less frenzied is his soloing on "Serious as a heart attack", passages of which are absolutely brilliant.
Other highlights include Clarence Garlow's "Route 90" (Garlow, a dj in Beaumont Tx helped inspire Winter's love of the blues), Sonny Boy Williamson's "Unseen eye", and "Give it back", a song about prompting a woman to return various purchases-- i.e. wig, glass-eye, false teeth, wooden leg--during a nasty breakup (the soloing here is as evil as it is faithful to the dictates of the lyrics). Jon Paris (bass player) contributes good harmonica playing on a number of the tracks. Particularly tasty is his first position playing (which in blues emphasizes bending the very low and very high reeds) on "Good time woman".
Overall this cd matches the explosive energy of Winter's live performances during the 1980's (And I've seen him at least a dozen times that decade).
Almost 5 stars.......2004-08-18
I do recall Johnny Winter saying in an interview that he wasn't happy with the overall guitar sound on this c.d. I have to agree with him...the lack of bass makes for a rather tinny sound. Nevertheless his outstanding technique still shines through. The choice of songs is absolutely 100% accurate.
Sound The Bell, Good Time Woman, My Time After Awhile are just so full of enthusiasm and energy. Infact, again, EVERY track is superb, i have to say.
This one is well worth purchasing. I definitely do not regret having it in my collection.
An album for blues-guitar afficianados and guitar players..........2000-07-06
If you love long, continually-vibrant, energetic guitar solos, then this album is for you. I play guitar, and Johnny's playing never ceases to render me slack-jawed! This album has it all---slow tempo blues (with piercing, snaking, rapid-fire soloing), fast tempo boogie-woogie (with piercing, wonderfully-driving soloing), medium-tempo shuffles (more soloing, of course), and more. Check out the title song at the end--its kind of a bluegrass/blues, finger-picking masterpiece (on electric, of course)--so driving, frantic, and utterly energizing! I have all of Johhny's CD's, and this one is definitely among his best (along with "3rd degree" and "Let Me In".

Product Description
Kankick has been chopping drums with fellow Oxnard legend Madlib since Junior High, and was an original member of the Lootpack. Raised by a single mother, Kankick immersed himself in music from childhood. Pillaging his Mom's records he developed his ear, with music ranging from Bruce Springsteen to RUN DMC. Fiercely independent, Kankick broke off from the Lootpack to form his own "Funk Farm" crew, whose members included DJ Babu and God's Gift. Honing his own unique sound over the years, Kankick's production is still light years ahead of today's contrived and static Hip Hop scene.

Kan's tha man.......2006-11-22
Why is Kankick not mentioned in the same breath as Madlib, 9th, Pete , Preemo, the reason ?? this brother delivers nothing but quality beats and crispy blunted tracks, Quality and retaining integrity after this his sixth album (yep 6th album) is a sign of a musician / producer who has respect and love for the hiphop rather than those ping pong casio beat makers who assume the music needs them, All said and done you need this album along with his other's which are..
TRADITIONAL HERITAGE

SEEING SPIRITS
FROM ARTZ UNKNOWN
Don't forget to look at his board duties on Declaime's debut album "ANDSOITISSAID" plus his collabo with Poppy & Declaime collectively known as the MADMEN.
I hope you enjoy real music like i do as you will love this his latest as you will the others.

Product Description
Q*Ball's third album combines the quirky electronica and sonic brilliance of Q's previous albums with a more straightforward pop/rock sensibility, featuring live drums, acoustic guitars, grand pianos, and, once again, the capable skills of guitarist & co-producer Bumblefoot. "This Is Serious Business" illustrates Q*Ball's growth as an artist, a label guru, and, most of all, as a man. Twelve new songs encompassing everything from pop to punk, from pianos to pizza - Q*Ball remains as eclectic as ever, but one thing is for sure, making quality music is seriously his business.

These guys convey great american/roots verve with but an upright bass, banjo and occasional kazoo. Their live performances in the NYC MTA tunnels or Central Park are not to be missed. Keep it up!
