2 out of 5 stars Disappointing........2007-04-02

We read all the previous reviews and thought this disc would be a keeper. We (my husband, three kids 14, 10, and 5) tried it on a warm, spring evening in the car. One or two songs, like the Banana Splits, Speed Racer, and Scooby-Doo were fun. Most however, were harsh, and too fast for the parents and youngest guy.
I would rather try these songs in their original state and skip the covers.

5 out of 5 stars All the songs you remember.. with a twist.......2006-07-10

Great CD with songs you remember as a kid. I really got it because of the "Tra La La" Song from the Banana Splits, but all the others are great re-makes; Hong Kong Phooey, Scooby Doo, Stop the Pigeon, Fat Albert's Theme, Spiderman.. and others.

1 out of 5 stars JUNK.......2006-06-05

If you're looking for soundtrack recordings, DO NOT GET THIS!! It's nothing but sick, annoying, noisy, GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great for the young and the old!.......2006-05-25

I've had this CD since it's release! LOVED it then, still love it! I think the covers are GREAT! Better than the originals, makes for much more fun reliving the cartoons I grew up on! I had recently purchased a copy for my friends son, who LOVES it, and since has been learning to play guitar! I would like to see more CD's like this quality and caliber of bands to attract the young ones who are our future rockstars!

This 20-song hit-filled collection is the ultimate survey of Billboard's chart-topping songs of the '90s, representing the smash singles that musically defined the final decade of the last millennium.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This Is AWESOME!.......2006-06-16

There are three songs that I don't care too much for (Phil Collins, Duran Duran, The Rembrandts), but this CD has a LOT of great songs. You want to save some money, you can just record them off the radio or download. Hollaaa!

5 out of 5 stars Ding Ding Ding... We have a winner!.......2005-01-27

I've heard a lot of different 90's soundtracks, and none of them match up to this one. It has a good balance between genres. For rap you have Whomp, There It Is and Bad Boys. For the pop people you have Sign and a few others. Even rock has some solid songs like One Week, Wanna Be with You. My two personal favs are I'll Be There For You (The Friend's Theme) and Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something, one of the most underrated artist of the 90s. A few really good songs in the 90s are missing, but you can't argue with the results!

4 out of 5 stars "Jason has an awesome cd".......2003-02-16

That's what my dad told some friends today about this album, Billboard Top Hits of the 90's. When you try and make a best-of from a whole decade of music, you're going to have people who love the track list, ones who hate it, and some who are somewhere between the two extremes. Myself, I think it's a great attempt of capturing 20 of the very best tracks from a decent decade of music.

Billboard Top Hits of the 90's has several songs that you would probably expect to see, such as "Breakfast At Tiffany's," "Right Here, Right Now," "Unbelievable," and "The Sign." It also has a few you probably wouldn't expect to see, such as "Bad Boys," "Free Your Mind," and "I Wish It Would Rain Down." That's where the controversy sneaks in at. I really like how it includes some hard to find, and/or underrated songs, such as "Missing," "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)," and one of my all-time favorites (even though I'm not a fan of Friends), "I'll Be There For You." However, I would've really liked to have seen such songs as "Bittersweet Symphony," Sheryl Crow's "Everyday Is A Winding Road," and even Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise," among others.

While there is one rap song on the album, Billboard Top Hits of the 90's is mostly pop-oriented. I don't know what else to say other than to check out the track listing and see if you like enough of the songs to purchase the album. I saw that it had three of my absolute favorites from the decade, plus many other songs that are better than solid inclusions, so I had no choice but to purchase it. My dad's statement ("Jason has an awesome cd") surprised me, cause it was the first time I've ever heard him use the word 'awesome'. I agree with him, this cd IS awesome. It could've been a bit better, but it's more than worth getting.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT 90's MIX, MOST OF THESE SONGS ROCK!.......2002-06-06

I ENJOY THIS 90's MIX MORE THAN ANY OTHER OF THE 90's MIXES I HAVE. MOST OF THE SONGS ROCK! THERE IS ONLY TWO OR THREE SONGS I SKIP ON A REGULAR BASIS. CHECK THE SAMPLES AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK.

All those folks who contemptuously dismiss today's mainstream country and wish they could have been around for the heyday of Lefty Frizzell and Buck Owens are missing the boat. Right now, right in front of us, the Frizzell-like George Strait and Owensesque Dwight Yoakam are quietly assembling two of the great careers in country music history. Further evidence is now available in the form of Yoakam's second greatest-hits package (the first, Just Lookin' for a Hit, collected his 10 best singles from 1986-89). The new collection gathers 11 of his 13 Top 40 country hits from 1991-96 (strangely omitting "Nothing's Changed Here" and "Try Not to Look So Pretty") and adds three new songs. The new ones are good ones--Yoakam gives the ballad "Thinking About Leaving," cowritten with Rodney Crowell, a striking low-note guitar riff; he makes Waylon Jennings's "I'll Go Back to Her" even more traditional than it was; and he lends Queen's rockabilly romp, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," an authenticity it never had. Yoakam is living proof that it's still possible to combine commercial success and artistic achievement in country. --Geoffrey Himes

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good collection.......2005-09-05

As the title says, it's a collection of "90's Dwight songs. While I'm not a big fan of "Best Of...." albums, this is definately worthwhile for new Dwight listeners. Of course, the two previously unreleased tracks are just as good as the assortment of radio-played hits they accompany. "I'll Go Back to Her" is absolutely stone cold, tried & true, country, and may be the best track on the album? A+

5 out of 5 stars A thousand miles to somewhere!.......2004-08-11

Dwight Yoakam gives us the best of his millennium in this collection of his greatest hits. The clever title is a clue to the excellence of this country western gem. One hopes his second millennium is as much fun as the first.

4 out of 5 stars The Real Cowboy!!.......2004-04-16

How can you not like Dwight.
I'm not a huge country fan, actually I don't enjoy the genre much, but Dwight Yoakam is great.
His songs are catchy and his songwriting briiliant. He NEVER sounds like some sappy cowboy singing cheesy lyrics about lost love or drinking with buddies out in some hick tavern.
Total toe-tapping music that forces you to have a good time. His whole catalogue of records are worth buying, but if you want to save a few bucks, get this one and be prepared to be totally satisfied!!!
Trust me. Have I ever lied to you before??????!!!!

4 out of 5 stars A cool country collection........2004-04-05

I enjoy alot of classic country music, but there's only one guy I can stand in recent history, it's "Dwight Yoakam". I think this guy is loaded with talent and style, just like this disc is loaded with hits. This 90's collection of his includes "You're The One", "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere", "Fast As You", and "Nothing". Plus my favorite song "Ain't That Lonely Yet", and a couple unreleased tracks. There's also covers of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", and an excellent version of "Suspicious Minds". This disc may be missing a track or two, but there's too much good stuff here to complain. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars encapsulating?....almost.......2003-10-15

Dwight Yoakam is essentially the only 'country' artist or group I listen to in a genre run amok with pretentious Rascal Flatt pop-country hopefuls.
This compilation is a good start for those who are being introduced to Dwight and Pete Anderson's subtle genius. However, for the avid fan, this may seem an inaccurate portrayal of Dwight's discology. Or it could be that only one disc (granted there are 14 tracks) cannot truly justify his accomplishment.
First let me start with the few irks:

-Crazy Little Thing Called Love could have been done without. Dwight loves to do covers but this is one of his few stretches.
-There are no selections from maybe his most overlooked album in A Long Way Home. My jaw hit the floor at the time of purchase when no songs appeared from that album. Couldn't they have scratched one of the four songs from This Time to make room?
-The tunes chosen from the album Gone (Sorry You Asked? , Nothing) weren't really his best stuff on there. True, they were the two singles expected to carry the album. However, the title track and Never Hold You would've put some moxy in the album.

Now the good stuff:
-Kudos for putting Suspicious Minds on there. It was and will always be a fitting rendition of Elvis's classic.
-I was pleasantly surprised by the new tunes. They were every bit as solid as his established tunes without trying to take away from them, considering the compilation format.
-Other than a few eyebrow-raisers, the tunes seem consistent to how Dwight and Pete sought to capture the attention of fans and let them discover more if they so chose.

4 out of 5 stars Easy listening for love.......2006-11-10

This is another pretty good cd for romance. I have enjoyed listening to the mixture of music on it. It is a nice one to cuddle up with.

4 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD.......2005-08-27

If you enjoy this type of music, this is an excellent CD. The sound recording is excellent. All of these cuts appear to be the originally released recordings except one glaring exception. The Righteous Brothers' tune, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is a 1991 remake and not the original. It is a mediocre substitute, at best. I really wonder why they did that!

Other than this shortcoming, this is a good choice if, again, you like this type of music.

4 out of 5 stars Maybe even 5 stars.......2005-04-03

I have now retracted an earlier negative review. I have played it since and enjoyed it.
I was overly critical. I do play it and enjoy it.

(ONE AND ONLY LOVE ALBUM) REALLY DOES BLOW THIS ONE AWAY THOUGH AND I PLAY IT ALL THE TIME (100 STARS).

(This same CD is also available with different cover art).

Unlike some so-called salsa compilations (do a search for music on Amazon with "hot spicy salsa" as the keywords) this is the real thing, with actual horns (imagine that) and more-than-competent artists. If salsa isn't performed with passion there's no point in bothering. Thankfully, you get that here. While it's not the greatest salsa CD on the planet it's not a bad way to spend a few of your hard-earned bucks.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars 80's and 90's pop fun.......2000-07-25

With the exception of the rhythmic "Tennessee" and the spiritually sexy "Sadness" by Enigma, this is mostly fun fluff. Great for re-living the pop onehit wonders. I'll admit, it was a guilty pleasure and I'd reccomend it for anyone who likes pop.

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable for a bargain price..........2005-05-08

I purchased this compilation primarily for the "Crying Game" track. It fits in well with the other selections on this non-blockbuster MIRAMAX collection. The sound quality(sometimes harsh)is very cinematic in scope. Some of the selections are too short or end abruptly. This inhibits the continuity of the album and gives little feel for the film content. Simply this is just a nice collection of eclectic tunes ranging from the conventional(The Englishman Who...)to the exotic(Picture Bride)to
the campy.(Pulp Fiction) Add a star if your a big fan of all the films represented!

5 out of 5 stars The best in background music.......2005-01-15

I've been waiting for years for Miramax to release another greatest hits from their films. I always play this CD on road trips and as background music while entertaining company. It's also a good topic of conversation in trying to guess what song is from which movie. All these years and this CD is still one of my all time favorites.

4 out of 5 stars Brings back memories..........2000-09-25

Miramax's Greatest Hits brought back famous moments from some of the best Miramax films. I loved the song from "The Postman". It is one of the most romantic songs I have ever heard. I also love the song from "Cinema Paradisio" because it brings back memories of the beautiful and melancholic scenes from the movie.
