Further proof that the 15-year-old male is the nexus of contemporary popular entertainment, this anthology of music from and "inspired by" the sequel to the earth-conquering Halo saga also showcases how capably the video game industry can trump even Hollywood's vaunted production values. The original synth-heavy underscore by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori is filled with enough brooding, mock-Goth atmospherics, and pulsing exotica of indeterminate ethnicity to give the Hans Zimmer stable a run for their money, while a slate of (mostly) worthy rock star guest turns give it a welcome edge. Legendary axe-slinger Steve Vai's sinewy riffing punches up the reworked main theme and "Never Surrender," while alt.metal contenders Breaking Benjamin serve up the suitably dramatic inspired-by cut "Blow Me Away." But it's Incubus' four-part "Odyssey" suite that's the centerpiece, bridging 1970s prog and modern rock with its moody aura and evocative musical dramatics. --Jerry McCulley

This CD stayed in my truck's CD player for months before getting tired of it. Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars Great game - great music.......2007-01-10

My son wanted this Cd. I had never sat long enough to listen to the music when he played Halo, so I didn't have a clue what I was buying. He let me listen to some of the tracks once it arrived and I had to "borrow" it from him so I could download the cd onto my pc. Needless to say I bought volume 2 and the original Halo soundtrack cd as well. They may belong to my son, but I love these cds too!

3 out of 5 stars Hug your pillows girls.......2006-08-06

THe only reason I am writing anything about this album is because it contains the Odyssey by Incubus, and its probably some of their best work and will go down as their most unnoticed. While the rest of your nerds are huggin your pillows at night thinking about your video games and the "gnarly instrumentals" on this album you sit there and bash Incubus' work. The first track by them, Follow, is not all that great however it was re-released on an additional cd with their Alive at Red Rocks DVD and it sounds sooooooo much better on that cd (with some real lyrics) But after listening to the Odyssey I was really hoping this to be a new direction for Incubus, a more proggressive/conceptual sound. Whether this is the direction they go on with their new album is yet to be heard. Its a shame that this work will go unnoticed, and the only reason it will be that way because a bunch of losers decide to try and impress people with (what they think) is a sense of music just because its of a classical nature. Yes, the rest of the music on the album is amazing, and I give big ups to its composition, but come on people, show some love to good music when its presented to your faces.

5 out of 5 stars best video game soundtrack ever........2006-08-03

i understand that many people are a bit angry with breaking benjamin and hoobastank being in here. i'm not particularly happy myself with the last track, but i think contemporary music is appropriate here, albeit lyrics may not be the greatest form of expressing the mysterious feeling behind everything. i think o'donnel and salvatori have what it takes to compose a score of music, but it's not a score, it's a soundtrack. i found that if you don't like them you can just skip them. the second to last track is a great way to end the soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars classical music listeners stop complaining.......2006-05-10

The worst part of this album was songs with lyrics (breaking benjamin, techno, hoobastank)...i dont understand then why people are upset with the incubus - follow has one word the whole song (two if you count "yeah") and their instrumental songs are brilliant, floyd-esque at times. for those of you reading others criticizing this album, ignore them, ignore the three bad songs on this album, and purchase it and enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-07-31

This album is like nothing you've ever heard before. No matter you're hip-hop background, whether you're a big fan of the east-coast style, southern style, or mid-west/west-side style, the album is TANTALIZINGLY good on all fronts.

Leave the stereotypes about Christian hip-hop behind; if this doesn't make you a believer in the new school of hip-hop, I doubt anything will.

A must buy!

5 out of 5 stars Rapping for Jesus is really where it's at!.......2007-07-19

Well I gotta say that I love this Cd. I myself like more of the "harcore" rap and beats, so it really its home to the listener! Lecrae is one of my favorite "christian" rappers as he is very real, his spirit is in tune with God, raps very well and spits it hard!

It seems this is the music we need in todays society as it has become so perverse. I used to have about 500 rap albums, but I don't even this to them anymore. Everything I listen to now is filled with the holy spirt and this is the way it will stay.

I thank God for people such as Trip Lee, Lecrae and other various artists who rap for God and continue to do so! It sounds great! I just hope more people listen to this instead of all the other garbage out there.

All I say is keep it up! Bring the beats, and the verses! Don't stop until the casket drop, lol.!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars GOES HARD.......2007-07-12

THIS WHOLE ALBUM GOES HARD WITH LYRICS, BEATS, AND MOST IMPORTANT THE WORD OF GOD. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS ALBUM YOU ARE SLEEPING HEAVY THIS IS A MUST HAVE ALBUM 10 MICS IN MY BOOK THE WHOLE ALBUM IS BANGIN. A MUST COP NOW ALBUM.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album with Sold Doctrine.......2007-07-07

When I first heart that reach records would put out an album on the 13 Pauline Epistles, I wondered what it would be like; I also was excited. The talk about it was huge, so I made the step to get the album. This album has really encouraged 1. Self-Examination: As a Christian man looking at these surveys and seeing whether my life matches up to what they are speaking, whether in good or bad ways, 2. Study of the Word of God: They emphasize that their "surveys" of the Epistles are just that "surveys" not expositions - in hopes that it would lead you to "Dig In" to the word (Track 2 w/ Trip Lee). 3. Encourage other believers: Pauls epistles were an encouragement to other believers, even though Paul was imprisoned most of the time he still wrote with a fervency, not for his own glory but for the Glory of God! This is a thread throughout the entire epistles and the album seems to capture that thread. There are many other things you can pick up and that i could write about, but all in all, great album to buy for the sake of study and to "bump" on the road. Thank you to all the reach Fam for their efforts. ***NOTE*** it does not just stop with the album, look for the curriculum coming soon - it takes the album to a different leve, to my understanding it also includes some dramatic themes.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-06-25

All I can really say is that this CD is amazing! A few years back I listened to secular rap because Gospel hip hop really was not that great in comparison. Now I got rid of the secular because I truly feel that the 116 clique has better music. Not to mention that their lyrics glorify God and teach the listener life lessons. The cross movement's album history is also a really good hip hop album with Christian lyrics. Buy these CD's up. "Dig In" and "Get Loose" are my two favorites, but the whole album is solid.

Album Description

"No words can describe the peace, serenity and food for the soul that this music provides. A transcendental experience." - QUEBEC LOISIRS

"Inspiring and heart-stoppingly beautiful..." - CAROL PLOUFFE, HEALING PRODUCTIONS

In an extraordinary artistic symbiosis, two unique creators unite to explore the realm of angels and fairies working their magic to assist mankind. Composer Bradfield brings the promise of fine art painter LorAnge's canvases to life, painting a sonic world that unrabels with profound serenity. 60 minutes of sweeping orchestrations with solo cello, oboe and piano, all performed with mature passion and delicate intensity. Evoking both classical renaissance and new age thoughtfulness, the music resonates intuitively with the timeless wonder of angels and fiaries, opening wide the door to an enchanted land truly "within our reach". Top 5 album in Quebec book club (300,000 members). Featured in the soundtrack for the Korean Universal motion picture Old Miss Dairy. Includes 28-page deluxe color booklet with 10 original artworks by visionary artist LorAnge.

5 out of 5 stars A Perfect Fixx.......2007-07-09

Quite simply put the best Fixx album and a must have for all 80's fans. The music is crisp and relevant to this day. Remastered and with bunus tracks I highly recommend this CD.

4 out of 5 stars The Fixx-Reach the Beach-CD.......2007-06-18

I liked Shuttered Room better but this one is my second favorite CD of The Fixx. If you like The Fixx, you'll most likely like this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Bonus Tracks Included!!.......2006-08-07

The remastering job on this sounds exceptional, but it's the bonus tracks that make this a worthwhile purchase. The slightly longer version of "Saved By Zero" was often the version that I heard on the radio in the 80's (remember listening to the radio?). "Deeper and Deeper" of course is here in the definitive long version, but it's the extended version of "One Thing Leads To Another" that is the real catch. Clocking in at a whopping 8 minutes, this extended version rides one of the 80's best grooves into sweet bliss. If you remember the original album at all, then this bonus version should push you over the edge and into this very worthy purchase. You know you want it!

5 out of 5 stars One Of My Favorite Albums Of All Time.......2005-08-02

Don't let anyone tell you touring incessantly doesn't help album sales. The Fixx are scheduled to play here in Salt Lake City soon, and seeing their name on the billboard got me to pull out my old copy of this album. Holy Cow, this is a great album! Very few albums in my collection do I like EVERY song on, and this is one of them. From the first "One Thing Leads To Another" to the last "Outside", the Fixx just personify the best tones and hooks of the Eighties (although I'd like this album anytime). Oh, by the way, guys in Fixx; I went out immediately after hearing this album on my old cassette copy and bought a brand-new copy of this album on CD! Keep touring and rocking!!

4 out of 5 stars Best album by the Fixx!.......2004-10-25

I thought that Reach the Beach was the best Fixx album. I would still get it on CD if I wanted to. The first three songs, One Thing, Sign of Fire and Running sound strong back to back with its guitar sections and rhythms! Saved By Zero has some smooth bass guitar on it and nice bridges. The sparse Opinions is another surprise. That title song, Reach the Beach is still in my head as I speak with its keyboard-heavy sound. Privilege, Linear and Outside are also well done songs. The writing was very good, very intelligent in most places. This was one of the best albums of 1983 in the same year that Michael Jackson's Thriller album was huge. This was the band's highest and most creative, artistic point.

5 out of 5 stars Reach For The Sky-Classic Ratt Rock!.......2007-06-23

If you like Ratt then you'll love this classic Ratt album. One of the first six albums by the original Ratt. All tracks are pure Ratt-N-Roll.

2 out of 5 stars This is where they lost me.......2006-06-01

I had been a fan of this band from the EP, but this release changed my attitude. The pop overtones that began to leak from Dancing Undercover really come to the forefront. Perhaps it was the polished production, or the poppy chorus to 'I Want a Woman.' And although their musicianship became clear with the bluesy 'Way Cool Jr' that song was just too much of a departure for my taste. Otherwise, nothing stands out on this album- all the other songs had the same tone and there was no variation to Pearcy's vocal range- not that he ever had range. Same old, same old. I longed for the heavy stuff like "Wanted Man" or "You're In Love", but there is none of that on this album. They were clearly out for radio play here, and it shows badly. More Warrant than Megadeth- a bad move.

4 out of 5 stars A solid album.......2006-05-30

This is Ratt's fifth album. This isn't like the straight forward raw heavy metal of there Out Of The Cellar days but still a good pop metal album. Overall the album isn't very consistent with some great songs, some solid songs and some filler songs.

1.City to City- 10/10 A great opener. The riff is great and the lyrics are cool. Pearcy's vocals are enjoyable and the guitar solo is excellent. The chorus is very catchy too. This should have been a big hit. An underrated classic.

2.I Want a Woman- 10/10 Another great catchy song. This was a minor hit on MTV. The riff is catchy and the chorus is good too. Warren DeMartini's solo is great and the harmony line is excellent too.

3.Way Cool Jr.- 8/10 The albums only real hit song. Not one of the better songs but still a good song. This song is slow and bluesy. This actually reminds me a bit of classic Def Leppard. The guitar solo is excellent too.

4.Don't Bite the Hand That Feeds- 10/10 A great song with a good heavy riff. The chorus and vocals are good too. Another great guitar solo too.

5.I Want to Love You Tonight- 10/10 An excellent power ballad. This should have been a hit. Stephen Pearcy's vocals sound very good. The soft part is excellent and the chorus is awesome. The guitar solo is excellent and has a ton of emotion and a great harmony line.

6.Chain Reaction- 9/10 A great fast song that reminds me of Van Halen. The riff is excellent and the chorus is catchy too. The solo is one of the best on the album too.

7.No Surprise- 7/10 A pretty good song. I don't really like the chorus but it's not a bad song. More great lead guitar though.

8.Bottom Line- 8/10 A good catchy song. the riff is good and the chorus is catchy as hell. The solos are excellent too. A good song but not a classic.

9.What's It Gonna Be- 10/10 A good catchy pop metal song. I like the riff and chorus a lot on this song. Another excellent solo too

10.What I'm After- 7/10 This is a pretty good song although it is really poppy. More great lead guitar too.

Overall the album isn't very consistent with some great songs, some solid songs and some filler songs. Maybe the bands most commercial album. This was not there most succesful album but it did have some good anthems and a suprisingly good power ballad. Warren DeMartini solo's are great as always and this is a solid hair metal album although it is probably the bands worst album with the classic line up. I think if they had spent maybe another few months on this album it would have been a classic because there is plenty of great songs on this album

Stephen Pearcy- Vocals
Warren DeMartini- Lead Guitar, Backround Vocals
Robbin Crosby- Guitar, Backround Vocals
Juan Croucier- Bass, Backround Vocals
Bobby Blotzer, Drums, Percussion, Harmonica, Washboard

4 out of 5 stars Not as bad as other reviewers make it out to be.......2006-02-25

Reach For The Sky is no "Dancing Undercover" but it still good. It kinda lacks a little in the middle of the CD though. Still some awsome songs are on this disc.

"City To City"-10/10: Great opening track, one of my favorite Ratt songs

"I Want A Woman"-10/10: Another great song

"Way Cool Jr."-10/10: The biggest song on off the album, great song but the video kinda sucks

"Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds"-7.5/10: Here is where it starts to lack, this song has grown on me even though the first couple listens I hated it.

"I Want To Love You Tonight"-4/10: If you like ballads, listen to "Given Yourself Away", this one isn't that good

"Chain Reaction"-7.5/10: see "Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds"

"No Surprise"-4/10: I never liked this song that much

"Bottom Line"-9/10: Now we're starting to pick up agian, this one had to grow on me a little, but it is better than tracks 4 and 6

"What's It Gonna Be"-10/10: My personal favorite song on this album, I love this song as much as any other Ratt song such as "Dance", "Wanted Man" etc.

"What I'm After"-10/10: A close second to the previous song, and a great way to end a decent album

1 out of 5 stars Weak Ratt.......2005-08-20

Ratt is a group with such energy and awesome riffs and lyrics, but this cd surprised me because it's so weak and almost lame. All good groups seem to have a dud and for Ratt this one is it. I wouldn't suggest this cd to anyone unless they just want to complete their Ratt collection, as I do.

Keyboardist Duke, after stints with Billy Cobham, Cannonball Adderly, Jean-Luc Ponty, Frank Zappa (to stunning effect), and Don Ellis's big band, graduated with this varied 1977 program to jazz-fusion star status. The recording features popish jazz grooves with plenty of spikes inlaid, including rock-solid and heavy fusion, '70s funk, love-lorn ballads, and sections of bristling ensemble playing. One can hear what it was that Zappa liked in the eclecticist Duke: raw-nerved electronic keyboards with shifting rhythms and a sense of the funk, fun, and burlesque that Zappa relished. Especially deserving of mention among Duke's band members are searing guitarist Charles Icarus Johnson, thudding bassist Byron Miller, and drummer Leon Ndugu Chancler--propulsive, rapid-fire, time- and shape-shifting. But they all got the funk. --Peter Monaghan

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars George Duke - Reach for It..........2007-01-23

If he was truly trying to "Reach For It," then Mr. Duke succeeded! Along with many others, I just knew that Ndugu Chancleer was Bootsy Collins helping George Duke out!! Boy, were we mistaken!! I got to see his show "live" at the Roxy. The man (and his band) sounded just like the album...he didn't miss a beat, which proved to me then that he understood what his "Pop" crowd expected. At the same time however, he would slide in a little "improvisation" which showed us his jazz roots and skills without upsetting the balance of the song. There was a young lady with a "skull cap" on in the band who showed that she was a capable percussionist (turned out it was Sheila E. of later Pop fame!). Ndugu Chancleer showed himself to be a mighty, mighty percussionist! To this day, I just sit in awe of the bassist (Byron Miller?) who totally owned the Bass solo in "Reach for It." It was one of the best shows that I've ever seen to date (I saw the show in January of 1977).

Man, I miss those days! If you don't own a copy, get yourself one (they're cheap now...). Five Stars for Mr. Duke and "Reach for It!"

5 out of 5 stars GREAT STUFF.......2006-11-10

I love George Duke. This CD brings some very touchie feelings to mind. If I had a scale from 1 to 10 I will give it a 100!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Sampled to Death for a Reason.......2004-01-03

There's a lot more going on here than just first rate funk. The Latin tinged improvisations (one featuring a young Sheila E.) on this album are terrific. And the space age Moog on several tracks is mind blowing.

And yes, the pimped up funk on this record is fantastic.

But please don't just listen to this album as a "dated" relic; blow the dust off of it and give it another listen. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how top notch it really is.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST DUKE ALBUM.......2003-10-20

I THINK THIS THIS IS THE VERY BEST ALBUM BY GEORGE DUKE EVER. REACH FOR IT! EVEN THOUGH HE HAS MANY OTHER GOOD ALBUMS OUT. ARTISTS HEATWAVE AND SLAVE HAS ALL GOOD ALBUMS OUT TOO.

over, even on pure pop-R&B crooning like "Just For You" and the
funky pop of "Searchin' My Mind".Although this is excellent through and through I still suggest Duke's BASF/MPS recordings
in the mid 70's (such as "Liberated Fantasies") as good referance
points-all those albums are only available on vinyl but worth
searching for.Look for those but buy this too-it's fantastic!

5 out of 5 stars Remastered Gem.......2004-12-31

A terrific CD release from the short lived Capricorn reissue series of the late 90's. This was the first album by the band and featured the original line up which lasted thru 5'll Getcha'Ten. A great mix of acoustic and electric material which benefits from a top notch remastering job using the original master tapes. While this doesn't cover as much material or time as the earlier CD compilation, "A Different Time" (supposedly recalled due to licensing issues), it is more of a snapshot in time when the band were a bit more acoustic but no less brillant. The songwriting and vocals are still classic Scott Boyer/ Tommy Talton and the remastering brings them right up front. Long overdue for a CD release, the only negative is that it has become fairly hard to find these days.

5 out of 5 stars great stuff!.......2004-01-03

i too have the double lp "why quit when yourlosing" it contains the other album "5'll getcha 10" along with "reach for the sky" i wish someone would reissue that double lp on disc. this is great stuff from the old school southern rock genre.i always said there never would have been any "eagles" without bands like this...

5 out of 5 stars Brings back memories!.......2002-12-12

I have a double LP that contains all of these Cowboy titles. It is called "Why Quit When You're Losing" but it doesn't play too well with all the scratches. I was elated to find this CD. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys good old country rock.

5 out of 5 stars Just Great !.......1999-03-22

I've heared Cowboy for the first time on Gregg Allman's Album "On Tour '74". The second time I have heared them on Bonnie Bramlett's album "It's time" (also a great album). And now I'm owning "Reach For The Sky" and it's just great - one "Hit" after another, especially the song "It's time". Trust an Austrian music lover and buy this CD !! I would like to have more music from BOYER/TALTON.

5 out of 5 stars Love Survivor, loved the CD.......2007-05-12

Welcome back, Survivor! I love the music. Great CD.

4 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Survivor.......2007-04-26

Finally, the ultimate Survivor! As a long time Survivor fan, I have been waiting for this CD for a loooonng time! The reason I see this as the ultimate Survivor is they finally unleashed Frankie Sullivan and allow him to rock again, AND they have Jimi Jamison on vocals. So, this CD is more along the lines of the original, REAL Survivor. [Sorry, K.M. Morris] We are talking more along the lines of Premonition, Eye Of The Tiger, Caught In The Game. Not the uber-pop oriented Vital Signs and When Seconds Count albums.

I saw Survivor open up for Kansas in Aug of 1982, and they rocked! I mean rocked! (Eye Of The Tiger was @ #1 on the charts). Frankie Sullivan was most impressive live. It is nice to see him back in his old rocking form again! I attribute this to the absence of Peterik. Just like when Steve Perry left Journey, Neal Schon was allowed to turn it up again. Same scenario here.

If you like the older Survivor, more guitar, less keyboards, this is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars True to Form.......2006-11-22

This is classic Survivor. It is evident from the opening track "Reach" that time has basically stood still for this band, remaining true to their fan base and cranking out an awesome CD for 2006. Three tracks stand out, including "Reach," Talkin' About Love," "Seconds Away." These would have all been top 5 hits back in 1986. As it stands, the music is fantastic although not relevant to this decade, and Jamison's voice has hardened a bit but not nearly as much as one would think given the number of years that have passed, and his deeper vocals actually suit his singing style just fine. A follow-up with Peterik back in the fold that would coincide with the new Rocky film could produce one of the more unlikely, but welcome suprise hits of 2007.

2 out of 5 stars If your looking for another Vital Signs you won't find it here........2006-10-31

To much guitar, drowns out all the other instruments. Survivor was made famous by heavy keyboards and drums, not guitars. I was expecting another Burning Heart, Is this Love, High on you. No songs on this albums have that sound. The vocals by Jamison are top notch, but none of the songs sound like the Survivor I remember. Survivor guitars were only there to complement the keyboards, bass and drums, not drive the whole song. I guess Jim Peterik was the man behind Survivor all along. I give the CD 2 stars for Fire makes Steel, the rest are throw aways. ***Recommended for die hards only*** I highly recommend 'When Seconds Count' for anyone getting started with Survivor.

3 out of 5 stars Whyte man can jump.......2006-10-30

From the land down under, hello - I am a former drummer and 80's product, yeh yeh yeh: you either love it or bypass it don't ya!
This is a reasonably solid album, although probably needs some more harmonies to polish it off, but the important thing is keeping the flame alive with this brand of vibes. I am certainly not taken by the next wave of stadium rock bands like Coldplay who are as exciting as listening to my dishwasher.
I am not a christian, but if you are a keen searcher for intense quality rock - a little sample of my research/music collection for you,is to check out Whiteheart and Giant(Dan Huff- songwriter, guitarist, producer, etc). This is where the cream rises to the top.

5 out of 5 stars An awesome party!!!.......2006-03-10

This album is so much fun. For those of you who want to hear what a southside show is all about, this is the album for you. Filled with upbeat, fun, happy, house party type songs, from song 1 to the end you simply can't go wrong with this one. If you are in a bad space in life and need a pick me up, if your having a party and need a cd with the energy to keep everybody up and dancin' or if your cd collection needs a kick in the ass, you should BUY THIS CD!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Paridise it's not but may have to do!.......2005-04-19

I love early Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. And the only way to hear them is LIVE. But not on this album. For a really LIVE experience, purchase Live at the Paradise Theatre Boston, Massachusetts December 23, 1978 [LIVE] a seamless recording of one concert, not a mish-mash of different shows, performances, venues, and nights just slapped together with no cohesion like this album. With that said, if you can't find that album at a reasonable price, this one will have to do as for some reason Live at the Paradise is hard to find and people are just plain greedy in pricing this album used on Amazon. If Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes ever come to your town, go see them. They put on a great show and are still touring from time to time and without the high prices of many of todays acts.

3 out of 5 stars A Great Live CD, But Is Roll Out The Barrel Missing As Well?.......2004-08-03

Recorded from several venues, Reach Up And Touch The Sky captures the early 80's sound of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes.

This is a decent release, and sounds great on CD.

My problem with this album is that the songs, while taken from different venues, are not mixed together to create a seamless concert feel. You get a song, then a fade out, then another fade in to the next song, which I find distracting. This is especially evident with the first two tracks, as "I'm So Anxious" fades out with a drum roll, then "Talk To Me" fades in with a starting drum roll. Thankfully this does not occur between all the tracks.

The other complaint about this CD is the removal of the stunning 7 minute version of "Stagger Lee", which I'm sure was due to CD manufacturing standards of the time (CDs made with a time greater than 74 minutes would cause many players at the time to have difficulty reading the last track. This has been corrected on newer CD players.) .Unfortunately, this title is not likely to be reissued with the complete track list from the original LP and cassette.

It appears that "Roll Out The Barrel" is missing as well.

Overall, a good release with some notable flaws.

    1. I'm So Anxious - An okay version. Good, but not phenomenal.

    2. Talk To Me - High energy. GREAT version of this song with opening rap by Southside. Some interesting comments by South in the middle section of this song.

    3. All I Want Is Everything - An absolutely SMOKIN' version!

    4. Hearts Of Stone - A truly heartfelt version. This songs was awkwardly sequenced as Southside thanks the audience and says goodnight, even though the CD continues on for another 11 songs!

    5. Trapped Again - Nice energetic version. Fun.

    6. Why Is Love Such A Sacrifice - Another great version. One of my favorite SSJ songs.

    7. Restless Heart - This song did nothing for me.

    8. Vertigo - Dedicated to Alfred Hitchcock! Sounds like he's saying "Ver-ti-joe" in the chorus! A nice version, but not significantly different than the studio version.

    9. I Don't Want To Go Home - A nice version - faster paced than the studio version. Contains the classic line "Whatever happened to... your mother and I?"

    10. The Fever - This version is on fire! Sultry and triumphant.

    11. Sam Cook Medley - This was okay, but came off to me as just a quick run through tribute to Sam Cooke.

    12. Bring It On Home - Didn't care for this one at all. Was too slow, with some dreadful background vocals. Your mileage may vary.

    13. Having A Party - What would a SSJ show be without this one? I still prefer the late 70's version found on the "Having A Party" and "Live At The Bottom Line" CDs.

    14. Back In The USA - This one rocks out! Interestingly, there a some (very brief) alternating dropouts on the left and right
channels around the 4:18 - 4:20 mark. I never noticed it before, but picked it up now as I was wearing headphones.

    15. Having A Party, Roll Out The Barrel - The set closer. Did I miss something, or is "Roll Out The Barrel" NOT on this cd? I did not hear it during track 15.

5 out of 5 stars Reach Up & Touch the Sky: Live [LIVE].......2004-06-20

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were/are a band that sounds as good as they did in the `70s; their music is infectious. The horn arrangements are great and really enhance the tunes. My introduction to SJ was this title as an LP (yep, long ago). This album rocks. What a joy to listen to it on CD. You will not go wrong to buy this title. It was a mistake to delete "Stagger Lee," a tune on the album, but deleted on the CD version. Warning!!! Listen to this in your car and you might end up with a speeding ticket! Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Edited From the LP.......2003-02-17

As I see it, there are two ways of approaching this review. On the one hand, this CD is a great deal. Lots of great R&B by a great live band for an insanely low price. They tear through their own hits, as well as a great Sam Cooke medley (although I've always considered medleys a bit of a tease), followed by Cooke's "Bring It On Home" & "Having a Party" in their entirety, & finally Chuck Berry's "Back in the USA". On the other hand, as I looked at the set list, I thought I remembered "Stagger Lee" being on the original LP version. How they could edit out "Stagger Lee" (of all tunes), especially a 7+ minute version, is beyond me. As far as I'm concerned, this easily warrants taking a full point off. Bottom Line; If you like great live R&B, you can't go wrong with this. But it could've been so much better!
