4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Album.......2005-11-28

Regardless of whether or not you like the Killers, this CD is pretty good. I love classical music, and this CD is not a disappointment.

The songs are a little shorter than the originals, but still manage to be pretty good. It's amazing what they've done with just a few classic instruments and no synthesizer. The mood of the songs are a little different from the album, it's not so much "night" music, as it is... classic. You can picture yourself eating in a brightly lit, fancy French cafe with this music in the background, rather than being at a club or on the streets at night.

The only problem is that the music lacks a certain amount of energy, which was present on the original album.

I would still reccomend this CD to anyone who likes classical music and the Killers.

5 out of 5 stars This is Great!.......2005-06-14

If you like The Killers this Cd rocks! I love the Hot Fuss Cd and this one is just as good. I highly recommend this Cd for all Killer fans!

3 out of 5 stars The Killers have a tribute album...already?.......2005-04-26

Okay, "Hot Fuss" came out about 10 months ago and now The Killers are one of the most popular bands of the 'indie' genre. Is it too soon for The String Quartet to turn songs like "Mr. Brightside" and "Somebody Told Me" into Muzak pieces? The answer is yes but...they did a pretty good job of it. I am not recommending this cd unless you love The Killers AND you don't mind listening to the songs turned around 180 degrees into 'chamber music'. Try to preview it first.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Hardcore Album.......2006-02-08

In my opinion, this album is ahead of it's time. When I think of 80's hardcore, I think of hearing more of a punk style-like A.F., Murphy's Law, Warzone... Killing Time brings a heavier sound to the table, along with even kind of a hip-hop vibe-like Madball, who would later cover "Fools Die". All in all this is a great album, if you're into old school or new school hardcore.

5 out of 5 stars prime late 80's NYHC.......2004-12-25

when I think of the late 1980's NY Hardcore scene, I think of classic albums like Sick Of It All "Blood, Sweat, & No Tears", Agnostic Front "live at CBGB's", and especially Killing Time "Brightside". not only is this a great album by itself, but Victory records re-issued this album a few years ago with a ton of bonus tracks including the "Happy Hour" e.p. and the original Raw Deal demo recordings making this an incredible slab of prime classic NYHC.

5 out of 5 stars Raw Deal.......2004-02-21

I saw Killing Time in the late 80s when they opened up for Sick of it All and they were still called 'Raw Deal'. Make no mistake, there is no 'raw deal' with them, regardless of the name. Great, classic moshpit HC from back in the day. This album includes all of the songs I saw them play as well as several others. 'Wall of Hate', 'Fools Die' both are great representations of the entire album.

3 out of 5 stars Straighforward HC.......2003-03-26

Killing Time was somewhat obscure back in the day, and I'm suprised this CD is even in print.

Good, straightforward grinding HC. Shouted lyrics, anger, agression, its all here in clasic NYC style. If you like SOIA, early Revelation bands, Sheer Terror, Cro-Mags, etc, then this is up your alley, but on the other hand there isn't much new here that the above mentioned bands didn't cover, and do better.

Trivia note, I believe Killing Time came out with a more melodic second album... but I might be completely wrong... I'd have to dig through all my cassettes.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT.......2000-06-25

This CD is what coming up in the 80's and early 90's was all about. Check this CD out for killer original hardcore. Personal favorite is "telltale".

5 out of 5 stars Great Single.......2005-08-25

I came upon this single when I least expected it and I think it's great that the UK video is included instead of the US version and the JOSH HARRIS remix of SOMEBODY TOLD ME is GREAT! Who Let You Go is a good B-Side and this is a LIMITED SINGLE!! so hurry up and buy it before you have to pay 40 dollars for it!

5 out of 5 stars Got it for the vid, was disappointed.......2004-12-30

As the owner of The Killers Online fansite, I collect Killers media, and thinking that this import single would have the US version of the "Mr Brightside" video (the one where they're the house band in a brothel), I was sadly mistaken. It's the b&w UK version of the Mr Brightside 2 import single that I purchased several months before through Amazon.

However, music wise, the Josh Harris remix is the **hottest** remix of "Somebody Told Me" I've heard (and I've heard a lot). I bought "Who Let You Go" (one of their demo tracks) on iTunes, and Mr Brightside is the Hot Fuss version.

If you're a Killers collector, get these songs elsewhere. If you're a casual fan, this is a good starting point to get hooked onto the band.

5 out of 5 stars Rooster!.......2006-02-07

I love Rooster's music. This is by far one of the best albums I have. I think Rooster are probably a mixture of rock/indie band/pop/ballad lol. All of the songs are great but my fave is probably deep and meaningless but other faves are come get some and angels calling. Whats not to like about them, they sound and look great. :)

5 out of 5 stars One of the best rock bands around.......2006-01-29

I cannot understand the negative reviews that are coming in for the Rooster boys. Why did you sell your ears on eBay? This album is a fantastic album, that blends rock with a little bit of pop, just enough to make pop music lovers (like myself) fall in love with them.

I waited almost a year for Rooster's album to get a release in NZ, and it was worth the wait. I love nearly every single track on this strong debut. Members Nick (lead vocals) and Luke (guitar) wrote most of the album tracks, and Ben and Dave provide the instruments to back up Nick's strong sexy voice.

So, just what are the good tracks on the album? Well, there are many. For instance, "Drag The Sunrise Down" is what I consider to the album's oustanding track. It's saved right till last, and rightly so. It's a rocking good song with crashing guitars from Luke and brilliant shouty vocals from Nick. You can make up your own mind what the song is supposed to be about. Other outstanding tracks include "Angels Calling" (a rock ballad with aaamazing guitar and vocals, such a sad song), "Deep & Meaningless" (another rock ballad style song but with more of a poppy feel then the rest of the album, was the 4th single off the album), "You're So Right For Me" (the 3rd single, more poppy then anything else, with Luke doing a rocking guitar solo in the middle), "To Die For" (another ballad, I reckon this is about as poppy as the album gets, it's beautiful!), "Platinum Blind" (a rocky song about being broke), "Come Get Some" (the debut single, a simple little rock song that got me into Rooster), "Staring At The Sun" (the second single, an underrated rock song with amazing guitar) and "On The Road" (this is definitely the rockiest song on the album, a heavy track about a road trip).

With that many brilliant tracks, you have to think that this is a good album. I love every track, and I love the Rooster boys. I can't wait till they do new material! Rock isn't my genre, but I can make an exception for Rooster since they're so good.

5 out of 5 stars Very good indeed!.......2005-11-23

This is an excellent cd. 'You're so right for me','Standing in line' and 'Come get some' are the best songs but all the cd is on high quality standards. The price's a little too expensive 'cause is an import cd so try to find it in the 'used&new' category.

2 out of 5 stars rooster? .......2005-10-09

Unimpressive. The single has the slight ability to make you want to buy the album. But they are just boyband with guitars and trying to break through the market meant for real musicians. Come Get Some, Standing in Line, are okay songs. The others... well, what I recommend, would be you , downloading their songs instead of spending so much on this cd.

1 out of 5 stars Nope.......2005-08-19

What!? Nobody's reviewed this yet? A direct evolution of Rain Parade, Viva Saturn has given us a great mini-album (vinyl only), a good first album, and this; one of the great lost psychedelic albums. Melodic, beautifully sad, wonderful guitars ... shame nobody got to hear it. They recorded a third album that their record company didn't release.

If you like Rain Parade, or Mercury Rev, or Flaming Lips, pick this up.

This is pretty damn good! I first heard about The Killers a while ago and since then i have been hooked on their music! It is so different to what is out there at the minute and the new single, Mr Brightside, is no exception. It has all the characteristics of a truely great track: a great beat, fantastic vocals and a tune that will stick in your head, and trust me thats a good thing! This is a great piece of work from The Killers and I hope you will all think it's great too!

4 out of 5 stars Great new melodic hardcore band.......2005-08-02

This is a smoking debut from these East Coast hardcore kids. The surprising thing is how much
different this is from so much of the East Coast hardcore. It's certainly fast but there's no big
NYHC breakdowns or metallic Jersey mosh riffs or even a ton of gang vocals. Really this shares
more in common with a lot of the post hardcore bands like Hot Water Music that use dueling
lead guitars and dynamic song structures to propel the songs forward rather than straight power
chords. This may run afoul of some purists but their approach is really refreshing and shows
how a musical offshoot can ultimately influence the original genre in a positive way.

So what makes these guys hardcore? Really it's their dedication to speed and shouted vocals
which are eerily reminiscent of the higher pitched singer in The Thumbs. Their speed is mainly
delivered through some impressive drumming that not only follows the convention of hardcore
bands before them when appropriate but has plenty of room to expand into tons of different beats
thanks to the varied songwriting presented here. He also has a particularly effective continuous
bass drum sound that really keeps the drive going when the guitars are off doing their dual lead
    riffing.

Even when they're not punching it they still really deliver a compelling experience. An example of
this can be found on the mid-paced track "Play It Loud F**kers" which is chock full of tasty riffs,
varied tempos and heartfelt vocals that equal the passion found in their faster work. Still, this
band is at their best at higher speeds as evidenced by the opening songs and cuts like "It Ain't All
Hugs And Handshakes". The combo of aggressive drumming, intricate lead guitar work and
spirited vocals put these guys in the top ranks of melodic hardcore and this is only their first
album. This is definitely the band to watch going forward.

Check out more reviews at ohboydestroy.

4 out of 5 stars terribly underrated hardcore album.......2005-04-03

crime in stereo from long island, ny play some of the freshest and most sincere hardcore in the scene today. this is their debut full-length album, but they also have a split 7" with kill your idols on blackout! records. i recommend this album to anyone that enjoys melodic hardcore music like lifetime, later turning point, or embrace. i couldn't help but notice the guitar work on this album which is very tight and melodic and is complex without becoming too much of a burden on the rest of the music. The lyrics deal with everything from hanging out with friends and having fun to the bastardizaton of hardcore music and the lack of roots in newer hardcore music(watch for clash reference on "if you think we're talking about you, we are). Overall "Explosives and the will to use them" sounds great musically and lyrically, i suggest picking this up right now, it's very much worth it.

Also watch out for a new ep/7" coming out in June on Blackout!/Walk all Night records and check out this band live if they come to your area.

    help keep hardcore music alive.

The Jacques lu cont remix og mr. brightside is probably the BEST remix ever made!! i`v been bothering all my friends with all sorts of remixes for the past 15 years but this one, everybody loves it!! and myself included!! this single is a "must have" for all fans of good music... (btw, the original is also very good...)

5 out of 5 stars one of the killer singles of 2005.......2005-12-17

The '80s new-wave sounding "Mr. Brightside" was far-reaching this year, going top 10 on three separate U.S. charts - the Hot 100 chart, the Modern Rock chart, and the Dance/Club chart. The Thin White Duke Mix on this single was the one very popular in clubs. While its not my favorite mix from "Jacques Lu Cont" (a.k.a. Stuart Price - Madonna's producer), its still makes a good alternate version of this single. And without a doubt if your a Killers fan you need this single as a collector's item or if you're new to the band this is the single to start with - the band's definitive song.

3 out of 5 stars full length remixes--but not so interesting mixes.......2005-07-01

IT was great to get this single and find that the remixes weren't short edits. The white duck mix of Mr. Brightside is the full 8 minute and 48 second version. Only problem is, the original mix is better. This remix makes the song drag with a very clunky rhythm. And the insider remix of Somebody Told Me is no better. Running 5 minutes, it's another passive rhythm track. Collectors of the band's stuff will want this single. Fans of great dance remixes will not.
