The original Alice Cooper band was one of the finest hard-rock units of the early '70s, which is why the second disc of this remastered version of Billion Dollar Babies is such a treat. Eleven bonus tracks from the band's 1973 tour display the Cooper band's taste for pop-culture--and a sense of humor, as Alice quotes from Don McLean's "American Pie" on a wonderful version of "I'm Eighteen," while the band delivers a ripping "Theme from Perry Mason" during an extended workout of "Unfinished Sweet." Rounded out with session outtakes, the second disc will have fans praying that Rhino unearths more live material. As for Billion Dollar Babies itself, it may not be the Cooper band's best album, but it was the final release of a quartet of extraordinary Bob Ezrin-produced hard-rock records (rounded out by Love It to Death, Killer, and School's Out), and it captures the moment when the band was at their peak. Including three hit singles in "Hello Hooray," "Elected," and "No More Mr. Nice Guy," the album--from Donovan's exciting cameo on the title track to the closing "I Love the Dead" (probably the prettiest ode to necrophilia ever recorded)--still sounds terrific. And the packaging, production, music, and imagery has inspired followers as diverse as the Sex Pistols, Marilyn Manson, and Hole. --Bill Holdship

2 out of 5 stars Poor dvd audio sonicly.......2007-05-06

Although the album is good, the dvd audio expectation was well below par. Compared to other dvd audios this is edgy, bass is mushy and the surround mix is non existent.

5 out of 5 stars Billion Dollar Babies w Bonus Disc.......2007-03-14

The bonus tracks on Disc 2 are great...mostly live tracks of Alice at his early-70s drunken glory. Fun!!

5 out of 5 stars Great remastered classic, now with an excellent sounding live concert from that era........2007-01-27

I have an extensive alice cooper collection, and when this album was re-issued in 2001, I hoped it would be good, and it was. It contains the original album, which is awesome in itself, but it also contains a Concert from 1973 as well, which sound great. Its not just a cheap recording from the era, they actually mastered it well. Worth the money to get this edition, affordable now on amazon.

5 out of 5 stars This is how remasters should be done.......2007-01-06

First off, let me start by saying this is Alice Cooper's best album. Period. From beginning to end, there is not a weak track on it. It is a classic. That's all I really need to say.

Now, let me talk about this superb remaster job. All tracks sound superb, but not just that but 8 of these tracks are on a second disc live, plus 3 other previous Alice tracks and 3 bonus tracks. This 2nd disc is the real treat of this special edition. To me, I think only the Motorhead remasters compare to this. This is how remasters should be done and if you have the original, this is more than worth the price. Excellent stuff here.

5 out of 5 stars Billion Dollar Band.......2007-01-02

I also love this one. The band didn't let success affect their writing. This cd is full of everything everyone hated about Alice cooper and more. The themes dabbled with stuff that is still shocking today like "I Love The Dead" man is that dark and weird. "Sick Things" is also very creepy and beautiful. All of the songs paint a picture of what this band was flirting with and as Alice has said himself,he loved the reaction that it caused. The painted baby on the inner sleeve. The topics were alll sides of humanity that Alice Cooper was exploring and the band got a deep reaction. BBB was for me ,the last GREAT Cooper band album done by Ezrin. Muscle of Love was weak although it included some good stuff it didn't have the magic of the producer. This cd marks a legacy that all shock acts of today need to pay tributr to: The Alice Cooper band and the show

4 out of 5 stars This is not Alices backing band!.......2007-05-04

The product info says this is alice's (Cooper)backing band. This is not true. Originaly Alice Cooper was the name of a band, not a man. It was a true band, they all wrote songs, and came up with the ideas for the stage shows. When Alice left and went solo, three of the others( mike, neil, and dennis)formed "Billion Dollar Babies". I've heard that the reason vince(Alice)legaly changed his name to Alice Cooper, after leaving was to make it harder for the other band members to sue him, sence they all owned rights to the name.

5 out of 5 stars More Alice then Alice.......2005-06-06

The Album itself is every bit as good as any Alice Cooper group album before it. I would say the sound is somewhere between the billion dollar Babies album and muscle of love. This album didn't fall short where Muscle of Love did because the band chemistry here was intact, with no Glen Buxton or Vincent furnier. The singer really is pretty good, there are a couple tracks that you wish Alice Cooper was on, but he actually isn't all that missed. and this album is better then most of Alice's solo work after Nightmare. This was actually made to be the Farewell album for the Alice Cooper Group, but after Nightmare Alice decided he didn't want to go back to the group so they made it without him.

as for the extra discs, they are worth having if your a big enough fan to buy this in the first place. the Live disc has poor quality sound, but still a good disc.

Buy this if Pretties for you through Muscle of Love has never been enough Alice Cooper group for you.

5 out of 5 stars If you're a fan, buy it. If not, quitchurbitchin'.......2005-02-20

This disc is classic. Period. Fans have waited for the record company to get off their arse and they never did, so what you get is a CD burned from vinyl. Whooptie-flippin'-doo; at least you finally get it in a format that's current. The extra's? We all know why we bought the disc, the rest is icing on the cake.
Spend the $ because that's what fans do. Enough of the blah-blah-blah on the history of the band... it was 30 years ago, geesh.

      4 out of 5 stars Bittersweet Finale.......2004-07-20

I am a huge fan of the original Alice Cooper Band recordings, "Love It To Death", "Killers", "School's Out" etc. And I knew about this record, but knew it was almost impossible to find, so when I found this Triple CD I picked it up right away. The first disk is the "Battle Axe" album. There are some really great songs on here "I Miss You" should have been a radio staple, and "Too Young" is really catchy as well. The "Battle Axe Suite" is alright too. The best part being the final song "Winner" which is catchy. But there are too many songs that just sound like filler. "Love is Rather Blind" and "Rock me Slowly" seem like half-hearted attempts to get radio airplay with generic ballads.
The second disk is a collection of Demo's and unreleased songs. And that is pretty cool to. But, basically the Demo's are just rawer versions of what appears on "Battle Axe" and there is good reason the unreleased songs were unreleased.
The final disk is a live album. The mix is awful with instruments fading in and out. Sometimes the drums overwhelm, while at other times they are hardly noticeable. Dennis Dunaway's bass lines are non-existant for most of the disk. Overall you are basically paying around $30 for the "Battle Axe" LP. The extras are nice, but not something you will listen to often. So you have to decide if you want to fork over that kind of dough for one album. Me, I had to have it. Sure it sounds dated, the remaster sounds like a recorded vinyl record, the extras aren't that great....but as a die hard Alice Cooper fan I had to own this piece of Cooper history. I would love to see Alice record some new music with the surviving members of his old band, and who knows....if the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac can do it why not?

      4 out of 5 stars Billion Dollar Babies-'Complete Battle Axe'(Burning Airlines.......2004-04-03

Yes!I've always wondered what had happened to this band of three out of four original members of the Alice Cooper group. The lp originally came out in the summer of 1977.A time when disco practically ruled the charts.Acts like Donna Summer, the Village Pimples and Wild Cherry were packing the concert venues during this period, puke!!So,what chance did THIS record ever have?I remember buying it on cassette as I never did hear ANY more about the BDB.Turns out they played only four gigs touring Michigan before running out of money.A real shame 'cause with proper exposure, the 'Battle Axe' could've been somewhat a decent sell.Only downside of this 3-CD box set is that it appears that disc one of the original lp was mastered off a vinyl record;still sounds good though. With tunes like "To Young",the well written ballad "Love Is Rather Blind" and "Winner" brings back some nice memories.Disc two features twelve semi-rough demos and some unreleased tracks that didn't make it on to the lp.Remember, back then artists could only squeeze up to forty-five minutes onto a record.Disc three is half the reason I even decided to get a copy of this release. It's a fifty-minute live performance of the band's first show that took place in Flint,MI.Guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neil Smith plus two extras deliver a decent sounding set as they rip through tunes like "Miss You","Rock 'N Roll Radio",their Alice Cooper medley,"Sudden Death" and "Billion Dollar Babies".Some real old school down to earth melodic rock, with a bite to it.Comes with an informative 16-page booklet.A real keeper.
