3 out of 5 stars A very different style of music............2006-04-02

Let me first start off by saying that if you buy this CD expecting to hear Jessie David Leach's amazing KsE style vocals i'm afraid you've wasted you're money. Seemless is a sort of southern-rock style music that is a lot more subtle than KsE was. It's not bad, its a good listen if you're in a chillaxing mood. If you're in a fist-raising/head pounding mood then its not the right album. That being said its a pretty good album in and of itself. I'm not quite sure yet if I like it or not. I'll have to listen to it more throughly. Like I said before you need to be in a chillaxing mood. I'll probally edit this review when I listen to this CD more.

4 out of 5 stars Another mistake on Amazon's part........2006-03-01

Amazon has this band grouped with the likes of Bloodsimple, DevilDriver, Trivium, Soilwork and a bunch of other HORRIBLE metal bands. Please don't buy this expecting anything of the sort. The cd kicks off with Something's Got To give which sounds more like a slightly heavier Soundgarden than anything. Next up is the Wanderer, continuing the grungy Soundgarden-like vocals and some of the most impressive guitar work I've ever heard right as he goes into this Pantera-ish metal breakdown. But the metal these guys play is more like older metal mixed with nu-metal and not quite the crap that passes for metal today such as the bands previously mentioned in this review. This is, quite simply put, badass rock/grunge with a lil metal thrown into the mix for good measure, dont be mislead by the similar artists category posted on here.

4 out of 5 stars Stoner Grunge.......2005-12-16

Seemless's debut record could be classified as stoner rock influenced grunge. That may sound
like an oxymoron but to me they're really two seperate styles. Grunge to me was not only the
heavy, part metal bands like Tad but also bands like Soundgarden that had a more expansive
sound while remaining heavy much of the time. Stoner rock is really slave to the towering Sabbath
inspired groove with bands like Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Orange Goblin being prime examples of
an equally heavy if more narrowly defined subgenre. So when I say Seemless sounds like stoner
rock influenced grunge you could assume they have a knack for writing solid stoner rock riffs in
the context of a larger whole that breaks out of the tight bounds of that genre.

The first thing you notice is the lead singer is a dead ringer for Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as
are many of the songs. There's a couple on here that sound almost exactly like them but
thankfully most of this album comes across as fairly original. Their sound is a bit heavier and
more streamlined than the grunge bands of yore as they tend to rely almost exclusively on catchy
stoner riffs to propel the songs forward while adding various tempo changes and atmospherics
to keep it interesting. There's also the occasional slow grunge song, also in the vien of
Soundgarden, but Seemless mostly keeps away from the alternately tuned lead guitar work (with
the exception of one song) that sometimes made the Soundgarden tracks a tough listen. Instead
they keep with the stoner rock formula of thick guitars and Sabbath like leads but at a slower
pace. Naturally these songs don't have quite the same pull as the fast cuts but they're listenable.

On the whole, this a fresh and interesting take on grunge filtered through the prism of the later
stoner rock movement. It's more straightforward than many of the old grunge bands and it's
harder and more dynamic than many of the stoner rock bands out there. So if you like it hot and
heavy and like any of the above mentioned bands you will probably enjoy this disc immensely.

5 out of 5 stars Not a COC ripoff, just good "southern rock".......2005-11-01

People may say that this album is a COC ripoff, or they may say something else which would create an assumption of emulation, but people need to realize that all music is in fact emulation.
Interrpretation, is more important. Now I do see where the last reviewer's comments regarding the COC emulation are relevant, but in no way is this a straight copy. I give the album a perfect rating, and I have been listening to this album for months pretty heavily. I do listen to more than metal and rock, and being from the south I am a fan of typical "southern elements", I too am a huge COC, Down, Clutch fan, etc. but I really think that these guys did a damn good job on this album, being from New Jersey, they did a great job just capturing that kind of muddy southern groove. I reccomend this to anyone who appreciates the following: COC, Down,Clutch, Pantera, Kyuss, or any other solid grooving rock/metal bands.

3 out of 5 stars Seemless - maybe too much.......2005-10-05

This album sounds so much like COC its hard to even give them a chance. Staind and Creed sound very different anyway so obviously this person below likes COC and doesn't like Seemless, so he's saying that they sound like both Creed and Staind -- Pretty moronic and everyone reading your assanine review knows that Creed and Staind have totally different sounds (both fairly objectionable - but different).

The disc has some problem with sounding repetitive. That might change after more listens. But what won't change is the shameful emulation of COC. There might be some other influences in there that I'm not identifying, but I am familiar with 2 of COC's records and this is pretty much christian rock level of emulation.

But I wouldn't crucify anyone for liking this. I know most bands I love can make almost no claim to originality, but the COC thing is just overbearing for me. Can't get past it.

Album Description

What Have We Become is Seemless' breakthrough album.

From the seedy suburbs of western Massachusetts comes a band that will combine everything you love about hard rock: ballsy riffs, an earthquake rhythm section and vocals that tear through each let- ter of the lyrics. Seemless surf securely on a bed of massive riffs, constant backbreaking thunder then somewhere between the postal ways of Mike Patton, the power of Chris Cornell and the eerie calm- ness of Josh Homme lay the new multi-spectrum that is the Seemless sound. Featuring ex-members of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall, Seemless is the best possible excuse for changing paths. This is the band they wished they were a part of from the beginning. Now that the opportunity is here, they will never look back. What Have We Becomeis the next chapter and the band has squarely hit a chord with fans and industry alike.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars i'd say three and a half too, but since the last guy agrees but put 3 stars, i'll put 4 to balance it out.......2006-12-08

Opinions on the first self-titled release by Seemless were polarized. Fans loved it, while reviewers in general could not understand it or get into it. They wrote it off as nu-metal that was trying too hard to imitate the past.

With Seemless' second album, What Have We Become, the band once again is labeled as one with no care for the current state of rock n' roll. Well, this reviewer welcomes this album, solely because Seemless plays rock n' roll that is quite unlike what you'd hear on the mainstream radio these days.

But don't get me wrong: this album is polished to a shine, and it definitely would sound perfectly at home on the corniest of cloned radio stations. But if you consider Seemless to be a replacement for Audioslave - since Audioslave has turned musically retarded and decided to become motivational speakers singing feel-good songs like "Be Yourself" - it's obvious that Seemless is a huge improvement from what's popular right now.
Featuring former Killswitch Engage vocalist Jesse Leach and drummer Derek Kerswill, one would probably expect the music to be somewhat similar. This is not the case whatsoever. Seemless is much less heavy, features more blues rock riffs, and is most accurately described as a blend of Killswitch Engage's grittiness and commercial-friendly radio rock.

It is to be lauded that the band places heavy emphasis in their roots and draws upon classic bands like Led Zeppelin. More modern influences from grunge bands, such as Soundgarden, are evident as well. But even though the record label would like you to believe it, the truth is that Seemless is nothing brand new. They just play a style of old-school rock n' roll that is slowly making its way back and exercising power over the current state of nu-metal trash.

3 out of 5 stars I'd say 3 and a half..........2006-11-29

It's a great album, but it gets a bit repetitive. Not much of a change from the first album's formula: melodic verses and driving choruses, the occasional scream but usually a very Chris Cornell yell, and groove oriented guitars and rhythm section. If you like hard rock in a slightly more "stoner" vein than Soundgarden, you'll enjoy this. The last song makes the record, the jam out at the end is very much Pink Floyd without being too derivative. Worth picking up, check them out live too.

3 out of 5 stars They sounded awesome live, where's the energy on the album?.......2006-11-04

I saw these guys open for The Sword and Trivium at Slim's in San Francisco a week or so ago. I'd never heard them before, but I was impressed with their performance. They can really rock. The singer has great vocal variety, in some places reminding me of Chris Cornell on Badmotorfinger, in other places sounding more like a watered down version of Meshuggah's singer, and in some places sounding downright "Sweet Home Alabama." Musically they're alternative metal, with a bit of the grunge sound from the early 90's but quite a bit deeper and more complex, and harder edged.

But I bought this album at the show and was disappointed. Not that it's a bad ablum, but when I popped this into my CD player on the drive home, I couldn't believe how little of the live energy was missing on the recorded album. It almost sounded like a different bad. So, I can't say it's a bad band or a bad album, but obviously these guys can do better. Maybe the production is just kind of poor. I don't know, I can't put my finger on it for sure, but the vocals don't jump out at you like they should. The guitar and bass and drums sound pretty good, but they just don't jive with singer and he's muted. It's too bad, the vocals should be showcased just as much as the rest of it. The bad is talented, they get only 3 stars instead of what they should get... which is 5... had they made this album as good as it should have been.

5 out of 5 stars Finally....a band worth listening too.......2006-10-21

BUY this album...these guys are headed for stardom...leach is one of the best vocalist of this era...not to mention the killer riffs and beats that lace this album...pay attention to these guys and watch them grow into a monster...if you like screaming and moaning vocals about death murder and incest then stay away from seemless...if you like lyrics and vocals that will shred your face then you better buy up...

4 out of 5 stars What a great band!.......2006-09-06

This a great album for people who are into an uptempo sludge album. Some of the riffs sound like they're are coming straight out of the swamps of Louisiana, while the vocals take you on a different trip. The whole experience is overwhelming. Check them out if you like stoner, grunge, or sludge.

4 out of 5 stars compelling alternative heavy metal.......2005-10-24

Into Another were an interesting group of talented musicians who made some pretty powerful music. there are alot of different styles and elements in the mix here, most noticeably heavy metal and alternative rock. the rhythms have a strong groove (possibly similiar to early Soundgarden) and the guitarist sounds like he grew up listening to alot of Maiden and Dio...wihch is never a bad thing, in my opinion. where most singers can belt out their band's songs with passion and intensity, no one could do it quite like Into Another's singer Richie Birkenhead. his pipes are powerful and strong and he sings with a varied range and a profound passion that is inspiring. it should be noted that his voice is a bit of an aquired taste, on the softer side of things, he has a smooth velvety croon. but on the more racious numbers, he sometimes sounds a bit like Axl Rose...also, not a bad thing, in my opinion. his lyrics are truly exceptional and unique. he touches on various social issues and analyzes the many differences between one another, almost like an alien discussing the human race. he also interjects lots of personal experiences in his words such as in the touching album closer "The Way Down" where he sings: "Never picked for schoolyard games, I was the child pariah you laughed at when my eyes betrayed the fact that i was sad. Although i tried so hard to fall into place and keep a confident smile on my face." sounds like confessions of a dysfunctional childhood...but it works because it not overly sappy and doesn't sound like he's venting just for the sake of unloading his angst on the listener. Into Another had been around for a few years before releasing Seemless (their major label debut and, sadly, their final record), and they only seemed to achieve acclaim in small circles. they were a hard band to catagorize and therefore, had a limited appeal. but for those of us who understood this band, they were a real musical gift whose brilliant music will always be cherished.

5 out of 5 stars Tail......classic song.......2005-07-07

I hadnt heard this song in about 10 years since I used to hear it on WSOU. Just heard it the other day on the Music Channel, and man it brought back memories of my teenage years. This song is unbelievable, so I just bought the whole dam CD even though I just downloaded it off of Limewire since Kazaa and Morpheus didnt have it......Unbelievable song though. Metal heads if you havent heard it, hear it. If you havent heard it in a long time like me than def take another listen!! once again great song!!

5 out of 5 stars Into Another is Smooooth.......2001-03-18

This is one of the most relaxing, passionate alterna-rock/indie/punk records I own. It's absolutely an essential, if you can track it down. There is just something about this band- mellow and desperate at the same time. I normally don't like anything that could be cast under the rock heading but... just wow.

4 out of 5 stars Worth A Listen.......2000-06-27

This album 'Into Another' is very good. It has great songs like 'Mutate Me'. It is definately worth gettin to any rock/alternative/punk fans. It is strong album supported by a strong band who should be better known. Seemless, are definately a band to talk about, and has great songs which you will remeber. BUY THIS ALBUM!
