5 out of 5 stars Boobs, babes, and bad guys!!.......2006-12-30

Hahahaha,
Oh, Riggs. What the hell? I bought this album strictly for the reason Zombie wasn't in it (sorry Rob). Shadowing the footsteps of the great white zombie himself, SOTE, freaking tripped over its own feet... So I know what your thinking, why the hell did you buy it if it isn't that great. Well kids, that's what I do! I buy crap! Then I come here to write about everything that doesn't have to do with it, and basically tell you to check it out for yourself, so you don't have to follow everyone else, and can stand up, grow some balls and make your own decisions rather then reading what everyone else says and decide after that. I mean come-on, how are you ever going to like or dislike things, if you're constantly taking someone else's opinion rather then finding out for yourself? (Slowly stepping down off soapbox) Seriously folks, I pop this CD in every now and then to get a little something different. How different you may ask? Well, listen for yourself. Better then any of Zombie albums?? Nah. How about better then the NEW Zombie album? Nope. So what then? Just a little change of pace, that's all. Think of it on the lines of Blood... Different people same blood. Different bands... Same sound... And to me. It's all GROOVY.

5 out of 5 stars not zombie----still very good.......2006-08-31

A very good album. 2 songs are slow, but over all very good.

3 out of 5 stars Cool, a new Zombie album. No wait a minute........2006-07-19

Well the ghouls have moved on without their master. Scum of the Earth is basically Rob Zombie's old band, and the question being has Riggs and the Tempstra brothers produced a good album? My answer is yes, for the most part. I'm not really sure why they left Zombie. From what people have said they basically got tired of waiting for Rob to finish with his directing work and they decided to move on with their own band. Can't say I blame them

At first glance the artwork on the album cover looks just like a Rob Zombie record. Then one turns the album over and the song titles look just like songs from a Zombie album. Moreover, when the cd is played I had to double-check the band listing because at first I thought I was hearing Rob singing. No actually Riggs is on lead vocals, well he certainly learned a lot from his old partner. As whole I enjoyed this album. I have been a fan of Rob Zombie for years, so I do think this record rocks. With that being said, it's biggest flaw, but yet it's strength is the album sounds too much like Zombie's work. If one is a fan of Rob Zombie's music he or she should enjoy this record.

Because of the record's close similarity to the other Zombie releases one has to compare the two. Which brings me to the conclusion that it is not as strong as most of Rob or White Zombie's work, maybe except for "Educated Horses". This not to say it's not good. This album does continue more in theme of "Sinister Urge" and "Hellybilly" Deluxe than "Educated Horses". In my opinion I don't like either album more than the other. They both have their strong and weak points. Actually, if one combined the best aspects from both, there would be one heck of strong album. This tells me that Riggs played a bigger part in Zombie's music than I thought and the two need to reunite! Only time will tell.

5 out of 5 stars just what i was looking for.......2006-04-13

after being disappointed with that new zombie album someone pointed me in this direction and my god this is what i've been looking for. there's like 2 tracks i don't like (spiders track >_ < ) everything was the bomb. just need to work on the lyrics cause some songs can get repetative but i'd recommed it to anybody who likes old zombie

5 out of 5 stars Up the scums .......2005-09-10

This cd owns from the 1st song on.
I saw SOTE live and they had the coolest live show ive ever seen.If you get a chance to see them DO IT.

    5 out of 5 stars Pure Energy.......2007-07-13

I was blown away the first time i heard this album. I listened to it all the way through 3 times and still was blown away. There is so much energy captured on here its amazing. WHo cares if the production is poor, and more so who cares that the songs are only a minute to two minutes long. Doesnt matter. The energy is there and thats what matters. My favorite songs on here are probably The Kill, You Suffer, and Success. The later half of the album is overall my favorite because the vocals change from the more sludgy approach to what is now known as grindcore vocals. Give it up for the innovators, pay your respects and buy this album

3 out of 5 stars Important, But Not All That Great.......2007-06-30

Yes, Scum may be the most important album from Napalm Death because it is arguably the first grindcore album ever, but it's definitely not their best. The tracks here simply lack the song writing quality of more recent Napalm Death releases. Scum is still a really fun listen for any metalhead every now and then, just realize that this is not a masterpiece before buying.

Favorite Tracks: Scum, You Suffer, Siege Of Power

    5 out of 5 stars Napalm Death - Scum.......2007-05-07

Yes!!!!! I'm a pretty avid fan of this band. Basically the forerunners of grind. I miss these days. More super speed blasts and short to the point songs. The socio-political lyrics some how seem to ring true even in today's standards. Sound quality is a bit raw(age) and being recorded from analog. But who cares. With fast punk-infused music like this it just adds to the energetic nature of the whole album. This is a classic in my opinion. I pop it in lay back and just listen over and over. Excellent stress management. I enjoy Napalm Death's whole discography even though they were more death metal later on but this one hits home the most. If you like old-school or traditional more punk grind. Get this.

4 out of 5 stars Where it all started........2007-02-15

Of course Napalm Death are not going to appeal to alot of people especially those who haven't heard any grind or extreme metal, if you are one of those then I suggest that you avoid this and start of with Obituary or old Cannibal Corpse. Scum is a pretty good album and is essential for those who are interested in the development and history of grindcore and its significance towards death metal, Scum which was released in 1987 sounds very raw and the song structures are very simple and stripped down so when I first heard this album to be honest I thought that it was quite awfull. It wasn't untill I developed a better taste in heavier music that I learned to appreciate it more, songs like Instinct of survival, Life?, polluted minds and seige of power make it worth the effort so its not unlistenable as these songs are very brutal and fast containing socio-political lyrics while other songs were just way too short and almost sound laughable like one big burp or something, its very OTT and some of it just lasts for a few seconds. Anyway while Scum wasn't my favorite from Napalm Death it was still great but I preffer Enemy Of The Music Business, Death By Manipulation and Fear Emptiness Despair check out those albums to see the greatness of Napalm Death.

    1 out of 5 stars God awful.......2007-02-04

If anyone is telling you this is a good album, don't listen to him. The music on this album is almost entirely monotonous "blast beats". There is no point to listening to this, nor was there any point in Napalm Death in ever creating this.

4 out of 5 stars Well, probably more like 3.5.......2007-06-13

Mega Scum is the first in a new mix series from well-known DJ/producer/remixer, The Scumfrog. While the smoothly transitioned CD -which features new and exclusive tracks from the likes of White Leppard, Gaby Dershin, Swamy, and Scumfrog himself- may be the main reason people will buy this, the cover instantly doubles the entertainment value. It may not be the first "dude looks like a lady" cover in music history, but Scumfrog's nugget pouch hanging down under his miniskirt is a first in my books. Finally, club tunes with some balls. The music is obviously trendy, but, as illustrated by the cover, there is enough ejaculatory grime here to freak out the squares. The persistent, chugging beats may never stop, but the sounds pull in influences from all manner of genre and subgenre so as to leave the IDM guys mildly amused, if not impressed. In any case, for the cover alone, this should be this year's number one Valentine's Day gift.

        Album Description

On a warm spring evening in 2002, a meeting took place in Norway. A group of people convened to discuss the possibility of making an album that would impact the music scene. One rehearsal took place later that same year and ideas and plans were thrown back and forth. However, due to prior commitments and time conflicts, the line up was forced to change. But the core of the group maintained the idea and finally, in the fall 2004, the decision was made to make it happen. SCUM was spawned! SCUM is a unique project in many aspects; first and foremost its line up is probably one of the most interesting gatherings of people to record an album in a long time... Casey Chaos (Amen), Samoth (Zyklon, ex-Emperor), Faust (ex-Emperor), Cosmocrator (MindGrinder) and Happy Tom (Turbonegro). Each member in this project is a leader, which makes everything much more powerful. You have the eccentric punk rocker Casey Chaos, Samoth and Faust appearing together on an album for the first time in over 10 years, denim stud-rocker Happy Tom and the fresh blood of Cosmocrator. Before entering the renowned Crystal Canyon studio (Turbonegro/ We/ Euroboys etc.) in Oslo in September, Samoth, Faust and Cosmocrator had only a few rehearsals during which they tested out basic riffs and possible arrangements. However, the songs on the actual album ended up being entirely created and nailed down during the three week long studio session. This was essential to capture the raw and energetic atmosphere the band desired. Twelve tracks were recorded, ten of which are on this album. Guest appearances include Mortiis, Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone) and Knut "Euroboy" Schreider (Turbonegro/ Euroboys). One of the basic thoughts behind Scum was to gather a group of musicians and friends who in many ways are well known in their respective scenes, but together - as a unit - come out as a constellation very rare in its own kind. The blueprint for the project was the spirit of Norwegian Black Metal mixed with a punk rock attitude. This was brought to life by the beliefs and perfect mistakes, some that you may or may not know, of all of its members. One of the challenges, when holding members from various bands and musical fields, is to maintain a clear vision of the project. The primary vision was to create an album unique in its own kind, created by innovators rather than followers. Call it death punk, black "n roll or whatever tag comes to mind. This is the spirit of a sincere respect for music and the spirit of lifelong dedication. This is an album of action and freedom. An unique alliance to address the state of affairs in music, and bring life to a dead and politically correct society. SCUM has just begun to spread its filth and disease to your infected culture! This is the Gospels for the Sick! Welcome onboard! Protest Life, the first music video from the album, will be ready shortly.

Intense, heavy, fast, and dark. A collection of tunes to throw in your car stereo for a lovely drive with the wife. More than what I expected, even though I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting. Casey Chaos is involved, so hey its got to be good.
