"Do ya wanna party?" challenges the soundtrack to this freaky and funny reworking of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Paced to the beat of a pounding rock score, this comic flesh feast delivers both laughs and outlandish gore. No longer lumbering, moaning creatures, these lithe, feral, and cunning undead claw their way out of the cemetery and into the skulls of a human smorgasbord. They even master the art of home delivery: "Send more cops," croaks a corpse into a patrol car radio. Director Dan O'Bannon even takes pains to explain their motivation between the tributes to the granddaddy of zombie horrors ("Well, it worked in the movie!" screams James Karen when a pickax to the skull hardly phases a lively cadaver). Not that it really matters amid the gore and gallows humor, but it does add a kick to the cynically sinister climax. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars I like it Spooky!.......2007-07-22

this soundtrack is just as awesome as the movie. i especially love "make love til we die". if you love the movie, you'll love the soundtrack!

5 out of 5 stars BRAAAAIIIIINS!!!!!!.......2007-07-03

Oh my lord, I watch this movie once a week. It's so bad!!!!! I am so in love though. I love the cheese factor, it is by far my favorite 80's horror movie. The make-up is so weak, but there's 3 awesome looking zombies in it. You'll laugh a lot, I promise. The acting is just as horrible as the zombie make-up. The special effects will make your bladder bust from laughing so hard. Yay, I think I'll go watch it now.

4 out of 5 stars Classic funny scary movie.......2007-06-27

You can nearly anticipate everything happening in this movie, but its still a good one to see. The makeup and effects are no where near as good as they are today, but still this is one worth watching.

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-06-17

This is definitely among the best five horror films made in the 80's. It isn't really the best at anything: there are certainly movies with more gore, more scares, more comedy, even more nudity. But this film pulls everything together very well, has ample gore, scares, etc., and most importantly produces a very good atmosphere for everything to happen in. From beginning to end, the atmosphere and sets of this movie are great for the horror genre, and the tension keeps building throughout the movie. (though Tarman--played by Allan Trautman--was certainly a very high point in the middle).

I never really bought Matthews and Randolph (Freddy and Tina) as people that would hang out with punk-loving... well... punks. But apart from that small issue, the characters are great. Gulager, Calfa, and Karen, (Burt, Ernie, Frank) all give mature, straight performances, which provides a great foundation for the horror elements to be built on. The other actors also fill their rules well--not that there are deep character explorations here, but the characters are certainly good for a horror flick. Quigley and Venturini (Trash and Suicide) in particular come across well, though I think the whole cast holds it own well enough. Maybe two exceptions would be Terry (the Colonel) and his wife, whose performances I thought were lacking, though they were both very short.

This film had a lot of memorable lines, and a lot of memorable gags, as well. The split dog, the pickaxe to the back of the head, the captured female zombie, the request for more paramedics... lots of stuff here that is not just good, but also memorable. O'Bannon also enjoyed cramming scenes with all sorts of stuff in the background, to make the scenes at once more believable and more interesting. Some of the jokes in the film are also sort of comical, like having two friends named Burt and Ernie in a horror film (and one is a mortician).

Definitely a movie that any horror fan should see. And even if you don't really like horror films, you still might want to give it a shot.

4 out of 5 stars DVD transfer isn't that accurate.......2007-06-15

Now the movie itself deserves 5 stars and maybe more. But the dvd transfer is disappointing for those who know this movie like the back of their hand. I saw this movie at least 300 times in my life. And as soon as I watched this on dvd I noticed some differences in the soundtrack. Some songs were cut short or they played late. And a couple of the voices for the zombies were straight up changed. Now its impossible to list the changes without blowing the movie experiance for those who never seen this. So I won't touch it. If you never seen this before, then you won't notice anything and this could either be the best zombie movie you ever seen, or the worst.

Now for the review of the movie itself. This takes place in the 80's and you'll notice it quick. A company accidently got a shipment of containers consisiting of dead bodies and chemicals. Two workers accidently break one of the canisters and all he11 breaks loose. A small little graveyard party for a few teenagers turns into a nightmare when they find themselves running from the living dead. The movie has some gory parts, but it can be so damn funny at the sametime.

This is my favorite zombie movie. It combines comedy, edge of the seat thrills, very intense spots and a good soundtrack. If you never seen this before, I highly recommend buying this. For those who have seen it. Even though a couple of voices and songs are altered. I still enjoy this movie and I just take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully a true remastered version gets put out.

I haven't heard much underground stuff lately because I'm in the military but growing up with Snapper as we called him back then I know he has a lot of talent. Big props to a homey from Bogalusa,LA. Snapper keep holding it down. No matter what you and Bucky are still cool with me. LOL. My sister who lives out in Irving,TX keeps me up on music and she says you are holding it down out there. No doubt, represent.

5 out of 5 stars Yummy!.......2001-11-17

Every track on "Return of the Living Dead" is a distinct pleasure...ear candy, really. I highly recommend this memorable CD.

2 out of 5 stars Should have stayed buried.......2001-10-18

When a group makes a comeback, there should be a compelling reason besides good fellowship. Hopefully, the band has something to say musically. That does not seem to be the case with the Sand Rubies' "Return of the Living Dead," a strangely passionless, uninvolving and (a first) tuneless mish-mash. It is not completely awful, but we should expect much more from a group that produced the self-titled "Sand Rubies" and, when they were still called Sidewinders, "Auntie Ramos' Pool Hall." Both of those records ("Auntie" especially) were excellent. Be warned: The best track on "Return" does not equal the standards of the worst track on either of the aforementioned discs. The sound of "Return" is a mess. Bass-heavy, cloudy, the production is like a thick, thick soup: seeing the spoon stand up in the bowl is kind of cool, but none of the ingredients have room to breathe. Amazing lack of dynamics. The songs, as mentioned, are not memorable. Not tuneful. Not much of anything (even the two covers) except for "Primevil Love" and even that is almost sunk by the production. The whole album is not so much a different direction as no direction. I finally gave in and purchased this mediocre disc after reading the previous five-star review, thinking, "Well, just maybe they've still got it." To everyone: ignore that review. To the five-star reviewer: Thanks a bunch. I just blew 14 bucks.

5 out of 5 stars Great Comeback.......2001-04-08

I read the last two reviews, but strongly disagree. Turn Off Your Stereo, The Loner, Paper Thin Line, Mary, Stranger In Town and Cut you Out are all good songs and Misery is great. There is not a weak song on the CD. If this is the direction these guys are heading (the same direction they've been heading for 10 years!) I'm all for it. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes well written, hard edged pop music. Great lyrics too. If you like Mathew Sweet's Girlfriend, you'll be right at home with this one.

2 out of 5 stars Not their best.........1999-06-07

this album is for fanatics only. However, I would recommend "The Sidewinder Sessions" to anyone. It contains some of their best work, and is a personal favorite. Fans should also seek out guitarist Rich Hopkins other projects (i.e. Los Luminarios).

5 out of 5 stars Ground-breaking, genre busting rap classic.......2006-08-27

Dead Rabbit's Sex Crimes, his debut CD, sets the standard for experimental rap.

The beats, produced by the late Dr. Huxxxtable, are similar to other west coast artists but with a distinct flavor. Dead Rabbit and Drusilla rap over the melodic instrumentals with a ferocity not seen since Ice Cube's "The Predator"

The album begins with "Polly Klass." It is a scathing indictment of people who use tradgedy for thier own gain. And Dead Rabbit is aware of the irony that he does that too, which he mentions in the next song "Casa Rebel."

"Casa Rebel" is the story of three teenagers who decide to shoot up thier school. The song starts with the memorable line: "Why is it if I shoot up my school, I'm a misfit. But if I drop a bomb on an Iraqi school, I'm a US war hero?" The song, which was later banned locally from all Sacramento-area schools, sets the tone for the rest of the CD. In Dead Rabbit's world, violence is not the last resort, but the fine scalpel that will be used to cut out the cancer of the society.

Not too get too serious, though, Dead Rabbit has a song called "GhettoBootyCat." It is one of my favorites, and is a simple "Baby Got Back" kind of song. Non-stop jokes from beginning to end.

Other songs include "Regime Change" (a song about the political landscape of 21st century America), "P & L" (about women and how it is better to be single than in economic and emotional debt), and "Sex+Violence+Vengeance" (basically about what seems to be his three favorite things)

The album balances preachiness with humor; horror with mundane. It never goes too far in one direction, but shoots all over the place and hits most of it's targets dead on.

It's biggest flaws are now in 2006 (the CD was released in 03) some of the references seem dated (The Beltway Sniper, JonBenet, Saddam Hussein, Great White's concert disaster, etc.) Other times it seems like the jokes are just plain obscure ("I always say enough is enough, but I'm always digging Holes like Shia LaBeouf" huh?) But overall it's an amazing start from a new artist.

3 out of 5 stars JUST SOUND LIKE THE MOVIE!.......2005-02-26

If you love ROTLD3 then I suggest that this soundtrack is worth having. I find soundtracks are different when listened to on their own. I liked this music score. Inside the cover there's a nice note from Director Brian Yuzna on the film, and some colored pics of Julie. Awesome.

    3 out of 5 stars hellraiser-ish soundtrack, that's just ok..........2002-01-10

The music sounds like hellraiser's score.
But the booklet is ultra cool! It's like a digipak holder but with multiple folds with director comentary and cool facts. plus 28 tracks!
But overall I really never listen to it just because it's just not that good. And trust me I love soundtrack scores.
The first 2 soundtracks were better, heck the were soundtracks and not scores.

      Album Description

Can true Zombie-Love triumph? The third installment in the popular ROTLD franchise is arguably the weakest of the three but stands bloodied head and gnawed shoulders above many lesser efforts. Essentially an Undead Romeo and Juliet, there are couple of memorable scenes (on particular the heroine's tribute to punk body-art with some teeth-clenching piecings…). Goldberg's score is a stand-out effort (and influence upon Eflman's score to "Planet of the Apes" ?!?), mixing tense electro-orchestral tracks with fine dark moments. Essential!
