This disc constains inspried songs of love, faith and disillusionment with the "state of affairs" in the world today; no bubble gum here. And it still rocks. Tracks such as "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," "Into the Wind" and "Midnight Train" stand out in this regard. The last several tracks comprise the "Critical State of Affairs" anthology, a thoughful reflection on contemporary life, and truly make this effort stand out.

If the Eagles, Yes, U2, Joe Satriani and Pink Floyd got together and decided to produce an album, they'd hire Clator Butler to write the songs. Very listenable from start to finish, A Critical State of Affairs explores nearly every aspect of Clator's immense and wide ranging talents: from songwriter and lyricist to jamming guitarist. As Randy Jackson would undoubtedly say if he could hear this album, "Dude this cat can blow. Man, he's got it going on. He does his thing dog and dude, he rocks it."

I've had this CD for several years and it makes a regular rotation through my CD player. Clator Butler has a strong voice and is a joy to listen to. His lyrics are thought-provoking and relevant to the times. He also sends a portion of his proceeds to assorted charties. Another great reason to buy!

A ton of sound for two people. A trip back in time from 2004 to the early years of blues. Great harp. Fine slide guitar. Scorching vocals. Real emotion. This is the Real Deal. It's also an answer to the old time male blues singers, it's femanist blues. Bessie Smith and Big Mama Thornton would be proud.
