This is simply the best album that you have never heard. Sons of freedom bridge the gap from the 80s to the 90's.The missing link I guess you could say. This album has a lot of flavors from a hint of The Smiths, A dash of The Mission UK and The Church. Add a little "Helmet-esque Heaviness and the rawness of grunge/alternative with smooth production and you got "Sons of Freedom." Its a shame they never recieved the recognition they deserved! But I guess thats what you get when your a little ahead of your time(1988). Driving beats and guitars mixed with a dark ambience with just enough pop sensibilty to make it very listenable. Add solid song writing and a solid portion of originality make this album a timeless dare I say it, "Classic." If your a true fan of music, this is the album for you, a real must have!

Let 'em howl.......2003-06-24

Superimposed over a snarling dog on this album's cover are the words "never retract, never retreat, never apologize, just get the thing done and let them howl", and it's as much a statement of purpose for the band as advice to the listener. Sons of Freedom's thick, oppressive rock was heavier than metal, yet cleaner than the grunge revolution it preceded by mere months. Jim Newton's borderline whine stood in front of guitarist Don Harrison's bullying wall of volume and the sledgehammer throb of the rhythm section, all made even more intimidating by Matt Wallace's clear-eyed production. Neanderthal opener "Super Cool Wagon" is followed by the pounding "The Criminal", and from there on in the album doesn't let up until the six-minute-plus closing sludgefest of "Alice Henderson". A lost, minor classic.
