BOOTY, HARD-TRANCEY, ACID, TECHNO FUSION !!!!!!!!.......2000-09-26
DJ Hardware was the first Dj I saw live when I moved from Europe to Florida. It was one of the most powerful sets i had seen in a while. His CD's are all very good no matter if breaks or "trance". Don't expect trance America knows today. It is not that cheesy 1999 Trancewave stuff. It sounds (for me) like music I heard in the mid 90's in Western European clubs. A faster harder very pumping Acid like Techno Trance. Hardware definetely loves Acid lines throuhout all his mixes. The good old 303 tweek, birdy sound will be there almost continously. His mixing skills are sure great and he has proven that various times. If you like George Acosta style south beach Trance keep you fingers off this one. Also if you are a friend of REAL TRANCE (my favorite) this one is not necessarily recommended. Everyone else you likes Hard Trance or not to crazy booty, not too hard Acid Techno or any kind of fast clubby sound should get this LP and the Mindcontroller by Hardware. Straight forward old European Club Sound. Fans of DJ Micro should like this one as well. SHARPMAKS
Classic Hardware.......2000-01-26
Another excellent mix by legendary dj hardware. The cd starts out very nice, slows down a bit through songs 5-8 (but still good) and then song 9 to the end is totally amazing!

M.A.R.S.: Project: Driver.......2007-03-13
Tony MacAlpine certainly demonstrates magic, mystery, pure genius @ some of the finer points in musical composition/ performance.
He surely has one of those rare gifts @ talents that is lacking in todays music industry/ climate, unfortunately.
But Hey, mayby that's not such a bad thing...not to take for granted that is!
BALLS TO THE WALL!!.......2006-03-19
Is it just me or do they NOT make bands/records like this anymore?!
This is a powerful recording by some seasoned musicians. Tony MacAlpine is a killer guitarist with a great sense of melody. Tommy Aldridge is one of the all time great rock drummers and was a double bass whiz before alot of today's hotshot double bassers were even born! Rudy Sarzo has been around the block a few times and does an admirable job, forming a tight rhythm section with Aldridge. Bob Rock's vocals are powerful and full of vigor.
'Nations On Fire' and 'Nostradamus' are stand out tracks for me but the whole record smokes. This is music for men...by men! Too much of today's 'rock' is so damn wimpy it hurts! No push button music here. You want to hear real musicians playing real instruments and real music...get this CD!!

One of the Best 5 albums of 1986!Totally Hot n'Fun!.......2005-02-16
M.A.R.S. have a great sound. This is a refreshing breath of air from today's music. If you want music that's done right, look to this album and the 80's.This cd is so great every song is suberb.
1.Nations on Fire(7/10)A very good song, but not the best on the album.
2.Writings on the Wall(10/10)A great song with MacAlpine doing a stunning job on guitar.Rob Rock's vocals are tough and forceful.
3.Stand up and Fight(8/10)A very good metal anthem.MacAlpine shows off his solo talent very well here.
4.Nostradamus(8/10)MacAlpine tests his hands on keyboards with this one.Sarzo's bass playing is dam good on this one.Rock's vocals take charge, along with MacAlpine's guitar solo.
5.Unknown Survivor(8/10)Avery rough and raw sounding track this one is.
6.Fantasy(10/10)Best song on here. The guitar work is explodong and sparkling with energy!Rob Rock's singing is so involving here, the chorus is one you'll be singing over and over!
7.Slave to my Touch(10/10)another excellent song that stands the test of time.Another great chorus on this one! This song along with Fantasy should make you a slave to this cd.
8.I can see it in you eyes(10/10)A song that puts today's music in the grave with a vengeance.
9.You and I(9/10)This one is the only slow song on the cd.Very fulfilling song that leaves much to be desired!
If you love metal and the 80's pick this up.It should be a law to own this cd, it is that good. This album rocks big time.
If you like this cd also pick up Vinnie Vincent Invasion, it's just as good if not better.
Macalpine and Aldrige shine.......2003-05-13
This is a fun record - I was feeling nostalgic for it, and just bought it as a CD. Macalpine is a terrific guitarist, one of the rare breed who doesn't let his technical abilities overpower a sense of melody and purpose in his solos. His rhythm playing is really good, and his writing is mature. He's no slouch on keyboards, either. Tommy Aldridge has always been a monster - his double kick stuff is imaginative and used with taste. Even Bob Rock's peculiar, bellowing singing style doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this record, somehow it all fits together. "Nostradamus" is a standout cut.
The picture on the back cover says it all; massive, 2 ft high permed hair, androgynous clothing, those serious gazes... you just gotta love the 80's!
Big Guitars, Big Vocals, Big Drums!!!.......2003-02-24
First off, this is more than a Tony MacAlpine album. This features three big names in music, Tony MacAlpine, Rudy Sarzo-Bass (Ozzy, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake) and Tommy Aldridge-Drums (Ozzy, Whitesnake and many others). This is full of great songs, great guitar playing, some of Tommys best drumming (his words). I owned this on tape for years, when I finally caught up with the cd age, I got this right away.
Why am I writing a review now? This cd has found it's was back into my music rotation. If you like loud, big '80s rock, this is for you. Tough to compare to, but good all around. Too bad they don't make another.

BEST MALE VOCAL TRANCE SONG!.......2001-02-09
This song is really tight. This is by far the best male vocal trance song. There aren't too many out there, but regardless this song has a catchy chorus and an outstanding beat! This song gets any club jumping, and elevates throughout the whole song. The Brian Adams and Chicane song is also good for male vocals, but doesn't compare to this. This song, in my book, is one of the best trance/vocal songs ever. I think it ranks up there with System F's Cry, Matt Darey's Beautiful, and some others. If you haven't heard this song, a great trance track, is missing from your collection. OOOOORAH! Semper Fi. Jason Symak

Customer Reviews:
Righteous (Rob) Rock!.......2006-03-02
I don't know how I missed this one when it was originally released in 1988. I was very much into Christian hard rock at the time, and Intense Defense would have been right up my alley.
Joshua's musical style was somewhere between Stryper's hair metal sound and the harder-edged power metal of Barren Cross. The band played melodic hard rock similar to bands like House of Lords or King Kobra. The songs are upbeat, keyboard-driven melodic rockers, with the obligatory power ballad thrown in. The songs are well-written, and the lyrics, while Christian in nature, are ambiguously so. They're positive, but not overtly religious. Whether this was an attempt for the crossover success that Stryper achieved, or the band was just trying not to alienate potential listeners, it seems to work pretty well. Intense Defense is much more accessible to the average listener than albums by Joshua's more evangelical peers in Whitecross or Petra.
Joshua's real asset, and the main reason I picked up the disc as a Japanese import 17 years later, is vocalist Rob Rock, who performed with Impelliteri and Warrior before launching a successful (for this type of music) solo career. Rock has a soaring voice that is perfectly suited for melodic hard rock and heavy metal, and it is his performance here that sets Joshua apart from some of the rest of the pack.
Christian rock and metal fans should definitely seek out this album, as it is a notable entry in the genre. It should also appeal to fans of melodic hard rock and heavy metal in general and Rob Rock fans in particular.
