Just like the folks who prefer David Lee Roth's Van Halen over Sammy Hagar's, some fans like the Chuck Mosely version of Faith No More over FNM's Mike Patton-fronted successor. With Mosely at the vocal helm, the San Francisco band's funk-metal rap felt fresher and less calculated. After hitting locally with a self-titled 1985 debut album, Faith No More were picked up by Slash Records for this Steve Berlin/Matt Wallace-produced follow-up. Introduce Yourself reprises its predecessor's anthemic "We Care a Lot," which remained a live staple throughout the band's career. Alongside it are other seminal FNM tracks such as "Anne's Song" and "Chinese Arithmetic," wherein the band's signature sound already lurks thanks to Roddy Bottum's classically nuanced keyboards and Jim Martin's crunchy guitar work. Still, it's Mosely's casual punk-ass attitude that carries the show. "Can I get a transfer, man?" he whines at the start of "Death March." "Ninety-five cents?! Fuck you, I'll skate to the beach and I'll look better getting there!" And while time has not been kind to some of the more generic tracks here, a band such as Limp Bizkit could still learn a lot from Introduce Yourself. The fact that it clocks in at a mere 38 minutes means you have that much more time to spin it again. --Bill Forman
Customer Reviews:
not mr. bungle.......2006-12-05
Faith no more is not mr. bungle. Mike Patton is great in all of his bands (especially bungle and fantomas), but faith no more is not a mike patton product. Mosely definitely sang better for FNM than Patton did, especially on the earlier songs. Mosely was a throwback to the early "Gen X" music movements which really flourished in the early nineties, like the red hot chili peppers, or soundgarden. FNM was much better with mosely's lacadaisical style of rapping the lyrics than Mike Patton. So in the end, buy this album.
I Care A Lot About This Album.......2006-04-29
This album was a life-changer for me. Some twenty years later it still invokes the same drama and passion, and leaves me wanting to yell and scream and cry and live. Having grown up in the punk/grunge/speed metal years, and having dabbled in all of them in my wasted youth, I would take this album on a deserted island. Dinosaur Jr., the Replacements and the Minutemen would be a close second.
Mosely?.......2005-09-03
Obviously, Mike Patton is one of the very best vocalists out there (THE very best, in my opinion). But judge this album on its own merits and not by comparing Mosely to Patton.
Mosely isn't a very good singer in terms of talent. But his vocals on this album somehow work although they really shouldn't. Together, the band sounds great and Mosely contributes in his own way. His lethargic vocals are mostly at odds with the rest of the music. But it still works.
Let's not forget that each member of Faith No More has his own tastes and style. Bringing together different sorts of musicians should never work - but this is one thing that makes Faith No More such a great band.
There are great songs on this album and this should certainly be part of any Faith No More fan's collection. Or of any music fan in general. It's very special indeed. Give it a chance - don't let it pass you by.
Get down with Mosely!.......2005-07-25
Don't hate on Mosely just because you are used to Mike Patton. He has his own style and it fits right in with FNM's off the wall style. Don't fool yourself into thinking he was trying to record some american idol grammy winning vocals here either. To me it almost sounds sarcastic and it enhances his tounge-in-cheek lyrics. He sounds just the way he meant to sound and once you get used to it there are some absolute FNM classics with Chuck as the frontman that you really shouldn't miss.
Mosely Makes Misery........2005-06-14
It's the efforts of the rest of the band that even pull this one up to two stars. I don't recommend BUYING this album, but if you find it in someone's collection, do give it a listen. It's interesting to see how much the band improved, and to hear the genesis of their future success.
Fortunately the other band members sing along enough on some of the songs, to make them listenable. And OK-- Chuck isn't all that bad... when he just speaks the lyrics, instead of trying to sing them.
I find this CD to be more listenable, imagining it as a kind of surfer-dude opera, with Chuck as a B-grade actor who was forced to sing. It makes him a little more sympathetic a character to put up with!
I agree with other reviews. This isn't a "pretty" album. But if you can enjoy something kinda messy, and you're in the right frame of mind, it's entertaining.

Scew the nay-sayers.......2002-09-11
This is one of Faith No More's best albums by far. A lot of people don't like Chuck Mosley's vocals though. I really like them, and feel that they capture the energy and obnoxiousness of FNM. I would like FNM as much today if they had kept Mosley instead of picking up Patton. And honestly, while Mosley isn't up to much these days, Mike's other projects haven't been so hot either. Chinese Arithmetic is where its at.
Not Worth It.......2002-07-27
Did Faith No More exist before Mike Patton? Yes. Do you care? No.
Early Faith No More rocks too !!.......2000-09-24
Okay, I fully realize that Mike Patton is a better singer than Chuck Mosely. But the other 4 members are as musically tight here as on any other FNM release. The tune "We Care a Lot" is the most incredible song they have ever done.
ANYTHING BY FAITH NO MORE ROCKS.......1999-12-21
Okay, this album rocks. Know what would make it even better? If Mike Patton sang on the album instead of this Chuck Mosely guy. What an awful voice! The music is outstanding; this band is (was) so tight. But the lyrics and vocals are absolutely horrible. He sounds like Jeff Spicolli from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" if he were to sing (no disrespect, Sean). The album has great music. For a much, much finer effort, check out "Angel Dust," or anything else the band has released since ditching this mongoloid singer. And just what is Chuck Mosely doing these days?
hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!.......1999-08-19
Now I'll admit that this album has good musical quality, BUT CRAPPY CRAPPY VOCALS!!!!! Chuck Mosely can't sing for his life. He sounds like he has down syndrome or something. I'd would like this album if i was raised in the 80s. This album is so retro it's sick. get Angel dust.
