"The common denominator of the universe is not harmony -- it's chaos, hostility, and murder.".......2006-03-05
In my review of Boston metalcore outfit Watchmaker's previous album Kill.F-cking.Everyone, I stated that they were "THE MOST P-SSED sounding band I've ever heard". Well, it doesn't appear that in the time elapsed since that album Watchmaker have been to anger management classes, or tried therapy, or fallen in love, or adopted puppies, or anything like that, as they certainly haven't gotten any happier!!! Erased From The Memory Of Man is as extreme and brutal and p.o.'d as ever.
These sixteen tracks feature negative titles like "Lice Crawling Humanity", "Relentless Post Mortem Killing", "Theraputic Dirt Nap" and "Infidelity's Eyestabbing Unease"... and theres an epigraph of sorts in the cd booklet taken from Werner Herzog's film Grizzly Man, as follows:
"The common denominator of the universe is not harmony -- it's chaos, hostility, and murder."
This is definitely the disharmonic, chaotic, hostile, murderous soundtrack to Herzog's statement! Pounding drums, throat-ripped vox, gnarly guitars...sheer sonic armageddon on cd. Turn up as loud as you dare, and stand back!
But, p-ssed as they are, it's nice to know that they do have a sense of humor about it all, judging by how the band members are credited with such creative job descriptions as "yearning flame of drum turret" (drums), "vocal f-cking sawblade terror" (vocals), "rick and f-cking backer" (bass) and "ghetto f-cking bee keeper" (?). Recommended.
Erased from the Memory of Man.......2005-11-10
Once more, Watchmaker has graced us with another album filled to the brim with crusty noise blasts and throat tearing vocals, but it seems as though with 'Erased from the Memory of Man' they have slightly toned down their sonic attack. Do not misunderstand, Watchmaker has not mellowed out there sound, quite the opposite actually, but it seems as though the tracks (I dare not call them songs) on the record are more focused and direct assualts on the sense. The production seems to have gone in a much more lofi direction, slightly dirty, and perfect for the record (bringing to mind the vicious sounds of 'Victims of a Bomb Raid'). Granted, it may not be as mindnumbingly brutal as 'Kill.Fxcking.Everyone' (probably the best grind album of the decade), but Watchmaker continue their path of destruction with yet another near perfect record.
9.5 / 10

All proceeds will be donated to the Southeast Mississippi Chapter of the Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Katrina. - www.chetlott.com "Chet doesn't play the same old blues nor the same old country music. By blending those two styles he has created a sound of his own and it's really great! The album has great sound quality and music itself has a special mood, deep and emotional."

"With a mixture of blues, country and rock, Lott touches all the senses."
Mississippi Press (2007)

the moves to go with it."

Does this artist have any other CD's I can get. I could listen to this music all day - and sometimes I do. Just when you think you know a song, Lott puts a new twist on some classics. You won't find a better version of "Light My Fire" anywhere and even Dylan would be envious of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes just likes great music. Everytime I listen to it I'm taken back to younger days when music played such a larger role...the memories of a night out with friends in a familiar hangout in my old college town or even a girl that danced with me barefoot on a brick patio one summer night until the band stopped playing. This is just a must have CD to own and it's just an added bonus that all the profits go to help the Katrina victims in Mississippi rebuild their lives. I highly recommend "Erased It"! If you can't find it on Amazon, I think you can get this CD online at the artist's website www.chetlott.com

B side Kings.......2007-06-09
They save the best for the B sides. After years of electronic rock, here is a great return to the heavier side of things. The real gems are 'Deus' and 'I can hate you' .. Both are dark rock staples - brooding, aggressive and catchy. This is a good companion to their Symbol Of Life CD and I would recommend it to all fans.
another great PL single.......2003-09-16
I must say I was surprised at my initial reaction to give this thing four stars. "Erased" is one of the weaker songs on Paradise Lost's album "Symbol of Life." It has a slightly outdated goth style and sounds like it was chosen to appeal to Germany's heavy music market, which eats this type of stuff up. It's a good enough song, but PL's usually tasteful use of female vocals goes overboard in a cheesy chorus replete with pseudo-tough guy anger. Don't completely count the song out, though-- it's got some great sounds and slick production to it.
The real reason to buy this single is the two B-sides. Paradise Lost has a great tradition of excellent non-album songs, and "I Can Hate You" and "Deus" are two of their best in years. "I Can Hate You" resounds with a Aaron Aedy's sharp, vicious, and heavy guitar overlaid with guitarist Greg Mackintosh's superbly creative touches on lead guitar. PL does many things well, but this is what they do best-- rythmn guitar that could carry a song all by itself accompanied by brilliantly creative lead guitar on top of it. The song has an immediacy in its anger not found in most PL songs, which makes it a unique find-- you won't find a similar song in tone on any of their recent stuff. "Deus" continues with the excellent guitar work and inspired singing of Nick Holmes. If you are fond of older Pl material, this song will take you back somewhat, although it sounds much more "modern" thanks to Rhys Fulber's excellent production.
As for the "enhanced" portion, the "Erased" video stuff is ok, although it won't blow anyone away. The live tracks don't sound very good-- this album is mainly worth it for the taste of "Symbol of Life" and the great non-album studio tracks.
