A good value.......2007-05-17
I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

A mixed collection of movie music.......2006-02-23
For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.

Buy it, you won't be sorry.......2007-06-27
Love this CD. You can play it all the way through, but I'd recommend fast-forwarding after the last song because there is another song hidden.
Can't really say the band is innovative but if you like hardcore/screamo/whatevercore pick this up. Keyboards are taking over the scene and you'll find a lot of bands going this route.
Pretty Awesome.......2007-03-08
I listened to only a couple of GDD's songs on the internet, and I thought they were amazing. I had to have the cd right away, so I ordered it, and haven't stop listening to it since I got it. Great screaming, and instrument parts are very well mixed. I recommend cranking up the bass to get the feel of all the raging double bass drum.
Some okay scene-music i ended up really likeing........2007-03-04
I found out about 'Drop Dead, Gorgous' from one of my friends on myspace. The song of theirs called "Daniel, wheres the boat?" was her current song at the time, and it sounded strangly interesting to me.
No one might even understand this but me, but the singer sounded to me like a little kid who was sincerly angry, and screamed like a baby crying its head off. Regardless of how comical that might sound, it didnt totally turn me off. Something about it just made me interested. Another thing that it reminded me of is that for some strange reason i kept thinking it sounded like it belonged on some anime movie soundtrack or something.
Anyways...i found out theres some decent piano playing in segments of some of the songs.
I think that what finally hooked me in a way, to want to take the risk and buy the cd. I liked how they use piano sound becouse it gives their sound a little bit of depth.
The guitar riffs have some meloncholic/tragic sound to them, in some of the songs. i could describe it as a sound that has some'dark despair',without sounding too dramatic. But its nothing complex or vastly deep. Those sounding guitar riffs are brief and repetative, but i bring it up becouse they sorta hit a chord with me, emotionally, and i didnt expect that. But that was VERY SLIGHT.
Besides being kinda impressed with that, when i heard the first song "Dressed For Friend Requests"...when the lead singer sings the lyrics....
"...We're going nowhere fast" ...
That part gave me genuine chills, it actually had a bit of a power to it that gave me an emotional response. Nothing major, but i was like "...gosh"
It wasnt bad. And one thing i liked about most of the songs is that they are short. Its easier for me to listen to this kinda music when its about 2 minutes or so, a song.
So i enjoyed this cd...and considering its their first full length album, i think they did a decent job. I liked it, for real.
A lot of bands have potential, like these kinds. But i hope perhaps they do great things in the future.
Next time ,i would like to hear more complex and deeper piano arrangments.
And more genuine dark despret emotions conveyed in the singers choruses and also the guitar work. If they can make a handfull of very memorable songs, that would be just great.
This is one of the rare times i go and get a album like this, and take a risk with my hard earned money....but i actually like this album, "In Vogue", so it was money well spent. Though its nothing life changing lol, Im real glad i bought this album.
Absolutley Amazing.......2006-07-31
Literally, there isn't much more to say about it. Although, yes, these guys are a big part of the "Fashioncore" scene that is very highlited these days, they are still amazing.
Standout Tracks (No particular order) -

One or Five?.......2006-07-17
Before reviewing this album I was stuck between one of two different possible ratings. There was five stars, and then there was one. Both ratings are feasable, and if you are looking for a solid review, every single on posted here is accurate.
Drop Dead, Gorgeous are recycled hash, and just about the most intense thing I've ever heard at the same time. Frankly, the more broadened your music base is, the more you'll enjoy this band. Although originality is always a factor at this day in age, being able to toss in a CD with some of the most rivetting (although repetative) breakdowns just feels right. I've been consistently enjoying this album for months on end, not because it speaks to me or any of that nonsense, but because it's blatantly amazing in its own way. The scream has to be one of my favourites throughout the genre (so I suppose you can disregard the "constipated baby" comment).
Each track has only a tinge of differentiation between the next, although every time you hear a breakdown in one of the tracks, you'll be able to depict the difference no matter how generic they appear to one another.
My personal favourite tracks (top 3, in order from best to worst) are as follows:
-Well, I never
-Marietta
-In Vogue
The top two can be switched depending on my mood.
All in all? If you like tons of types of music, and there comes a day when there's just nothing with enough energy that's really doing you any good, throw in "In Vogue" by Drop Dead, Gorgeous and just enjoy the bloody CD.

Customer Reviews:
Telecaster Master........2004-06-03
Danny Gatton was a truly exceptional musician--one of the world's greatest guitar players--period. When he passed on 10 years ago, people who play guitar--and people who just appreciate guitar music--mourned deeply--they still do.
"Portraits" is yet another reminder of what music lovers have lost, because it is a remarkable CD. From his opening R & B take on the classic "Rambunctious" to the three, live closing cuts, including a blistering "Orange Blossom Medley", Danny demonstrates his incredible versatility with blues, jazz and rock n' roll. Another highlight on this CD is "Lotta Lovin' ", Danny's tribute to those exciting rock n' roll pioneers, Gene Vincent and his Bluecaps--on this cut, Danny shows that he can play rockabilly guitar with the best of them--really outstanding !
If you are already a Gatton fan, and don't have this disc, push the "buy immediately" button ! If you like superb guitar playing and--somehow--are not familiar with the "Master of the Telecaster", you are not just in for a treat--get ready for a revelation ! Musicianship of the highest order !
Portrait of a Genius.......2000-09-23
Without a doubt, Danny Gatton was a musical genius: not only did he have flawless technique, but he had vast musical knowledge, a keen melodic sense, exquisite taste, fantastic rhythmic drive, and the rare ability to know when not to play. The CD is 5 stars from first to last, but my personal favorites are "Pretty Blue", a cooler, more elegant blues you'll never hear, and the live versions of "Linus and Lucy" which segues into "Orange Blossom Medley", which contains non-stop 9 minutes of the best guitar playing you will ever hear. Starting with a fast country 2-beat, Danny plays C&W guitar like only he could, then the band eases into a easy 4-beat shuffle, and Danny starts playing the best blues guitar this side of the Appalachians, or any mountain range for that matter, the band keeping up with him beautifully, and it all ends humorously. BUY THIS AND ENJOY !!!

It's truly a shame this great guitarist didn't have a larger audience,he should have been a household name. every cd of Danny is a 5 star.Portraits is great!

Customer Reviews:
Drop Dead Gorgeous Soundtrack does NOT Drop Dead!.......2001-07-21
This is a review for the Drop Dead Gorgeous soundtrack. This movie, along with the soundtrack, came out in 1999. I loved the movie and when watching it, there were lots of scenes where I was like " This is a really cool song! " Little did I know, 2 years later on July 17th 2001, the soundtrack would be mine!
[....]
On the the CD: There are 23 tracks, 8 of which are just clips from 9-21 seconds long. That means there are 15 " real " tracks.
I bought this for the song " Pressure Man " by The Feelers, Track 6, 4:30. This song is absolutely BRILLIANT. It is the song used when Kirsten Dunst is performing during the pageant, tap dancing. It has the best beat, good lyrics, and it will motivate you.
I wanted the song when Kirsten Dunst was dancing down the street ... a 10-20 second scene, and I didn't think it was on this. But it is! Number 20. Devils Triangle performed by Primitive Radio Gods, 2:06.
It's not over yet. Oh my. I listen to the WHOLE ALBUM, like right now writing this review, Im listening to Pressure Man. Number One by Lifeboy, Track 2, 2:57 is great, too. As well as She by Sunday Suit, track 3, 2:50, Lost Picasso by Hot Sauce Johnson, track 13, 3:13, and the Original Score RULES. It seems like such a new age song and so many instruments. It is track 18, 2:36, and composed by Mark Mothersbaugh.
Anyways, I hope I have helped you guys out there who want more info about the album. [Others]really only say how good Number One by Lifeboy is, and thats it. There is SO much more to this album, you can just fall asleep to this loving every song.
Thanks for reading! -Alex S.
PS: Listen to track 23, Last Laugh. It's 21 seconds long and a clip from the movie where one of the actresses, the one who's brother is Peter, says to the judges " You Know, the retards pants are open. " She starts lauhging on and on and snorting. IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH! I just keep listening to it! Hysterical!
Bye!
Not all good, but the ones that are are *excellent*.......2000-09-29
I've watched this movie quite a few times, and was always thinking of buying the soundtrack. Now, I don't like all the songs, but the ones that are on there that I like make it worth buying, because you can't get them anywhere else! The best, in my opinion: Girl That's Hip (Tim Carroll), Young American (Everything), She (Sunday Suit), and of course, Number One (Lifeboy). Ironically, the song Number One is #2 on the CD (because of a silly clip from the movie). Anyway, those songs are really great and I think it's worth it just for those four.
Excellent!.......2000-03-06
This is an awesome CD, i recomend it really highly! I love the little things inbetween too. GO BUY IT! KIRSTEN RULES!
Sunday Suit blew me AWAY!.......2000-01-12
Hey, what can i say...where is sunday suit? Why is SIRE records just sitting on them? Radio friendly 3 minute pop tune. Absolutely gorgeous and you can preview the track! (#3)
Joan Jett makes this CD.......1999-08-14
Joan's cover of "Love is All Around" isn't as good as Husker Du's or Swagger's but it's pretty great nonetheless and is pretty much the only thing that makes the soundtrack worth buying.

And now a Review from someone who has heard the Album.......2006-02-20
I'm furious the first person didn't even actually put any information about the album, which leads me to doubt the reviwer even heard it.
Out of the gate Drop Dead Gorgeous charges with a driving guitar lines and vocals. The first track (so far my favorite) makes you wish that you were at one of their live shows thrashing about in a bit that they no doubtly create. The intensity caries through the album up until the final second of the last song, 12 minutes later.
The only downside to this album (as JUST stated) is that the album is 12 minutes long. However, the quality of the music makes up for the lack of length. Once this band produces a full length, it will be amazing.
This album is for fans of Norma Jean, Botch, As Cities Burn, Circle Takes the Square, Every Time I die, Poison the Well, etc. This band not once brushes the generes that would be lumped with Dashboard Confessional and various spin offs. Drop Dead Gorgeous is an EP full of hardcore first swinging music.
Ballsacks 'R Us.......2006-02-09
Please do not purchase this album. After all, the sticker on the front that Rise Records chose to include reads "the break-up album of the year." Come on, Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory seem to have already gained that title.
If you're an idiot, you think emo is still an actual adjective, you are a guy that wears the tightest pants on the planet, you sit on MySpace all the time and take pictures of yourself, you call yourself "scene," or you like bands that are sponsored by hair salons, then by all means, feel free to pick up this monstrosity.

Siege-drop dead........2005-07-30
Siege were year-zero for so much music. Had Siege never existed then there'd no Infest or No Comment, no grindcore, no Neanderthal/Man Is The Bastard, no Crossed Out and Slap-A-Ham Records, no Citizen's Arrest, no Born Again$t, no Rorschach, no power-violence, no Deadguy, no Converge, no..
..you get the point. Siege are quite possibly the most important Boston hardcore band and released what i think is the best hardcore 7" single of all time in "drop dead". They came up in the scene that also gave us Negative F.X, The F.U's, The Freeze, Gang Green and J. Mascis and Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr's old group, Deep Wound. They took the influence of super-fast groups such as Bad Brains and Gang Green, Brit thrashers like Discharge and D.C's chaotic Void and created their own blistering style of hardcore. They were just harder, faster and more downright than any other hardcore band to come out in the 80's.
This cd collects their "drop dead" demo, which was pressed onto 7" wax, and their two songs from the Pushead released "cleanse the bacteria" compilation. The two comp tracks are excellent but it's the songs from the single which steal the show. The first 5 songs from the a side are the most intense hardcore i've ever heard while the b side is a cacophonous, bizarre slow dirge with screeching saxophone that sounds like Flipper meets the inside of my head during a hangover. Which, suprisingly, is a good thing.
Hide your kids.......2004-12-15
This is by far one of the rawest, dirtiest, most insane hardcore records I've ever heard. I got it at first from a squatter in Georgia on tape for 3 bucks, and from then on my life was changed. I had to transfer it onto CD so I wouldn't kill the tape from overplaying it. If this is what hardcore was striving to sound like (as it should've been), then the majority of hardcore failed horribly after Siege. More bands should take influence from Siege, rather, more bands should realize how much of their sound comes from these guys. If you like Siege, you should also check out the band Infest from California.
Buy this album and...........2003-07-29
play it loud to the following kinds of people:
1. The kids who say they like "hardcore punk" bands like NOFX, Anti-flag, and MxPx
2. People who think hardcore is the samething as nu-metal, ala Slipknot, Korn, and the list of [bad] bands go on!
3. People who think they know the origin of grindcore. Napalm Death (people who like Napalm Death know Nik Bullen wrote a song titled "Siege of Power, dedicated to these guys)didn't start grind, Repulsion did. And Repulsion's biggest influence was a hardcore band called Siege.
Great underrated band! Emerged from one of the greatest scenes in America, the 80's Boston hardcore scene. Check out Dropdead the album and also the band! Even more great hardcore punk!

Customer Reviews:
Glampire Is Sound original.......2002-12-29
What can I say but Galmpire...Glampire is sooooooooo original and very very underlooked by the mainstream record companys. To the big record Co's you are all crazy for passing this band by, but they have made it without you all anyway so smell on that one. The sound is so smooth and the vocals are killer, its hard to compair Glampire to another band for they are a sound all of there own. So buy buy buy and did i mention buy there cd's? Play them loud so others can hear it help spread the awesome sound / group of the Glampire.
AMAZING ALBUM.......2002-07-30
This is definitly a great choice for the person who loves creative music, well written verses and instrumental sounds that you will not tire of. This cd will be a #1 choice of mine for years to come. Glampire sure knows how to hit you in the heart and soul and his songs make you wonder if he is reading your mind.
