International version of HitStory.......2006-05-25
This is the international version of the Hit Story release. It differs from the US version. The first two CDs are the same as the US version, they are the Elvis 30 Number 1 Hits and Elvis 2nd to None CDs. The 3rd CD is where the big difference is. Not only does it include more songs (30 versus 19 in the US version), but it includes many different songs that were hits in other countries but not in the US. In total you get 25 songs in this collection that were not included in the US release. To make room for those 25 songs they ended up leaving off 14 songs, all top 20 hits in the US, that are included in the US release. So while it includes a net 11 more songs on the 3rd CD, it leaves off many songs that US fans may consider essential. This may present a dilemma for some US fans about which version of HitStory to buy. Do you spend a few extra bucks on the import to get some extra songs, or do you buy the US release and get all of Elvis' US top 20 hits? The answer is up to you.
Songs left off this version that were hits in the US and are included in the US version are: I Beg of You, My Wish Came True, Fame and Fortune, I Gotta Know, Flaming Star, Follow That Dream, Ask Me, (Such An) Easy Question, I'm Yours, Puppet on a String, Love Letters, Separate Ways, Steamroller Blues, and If You Talk in Your Sleep.
This collection includes the infamous laughing version of "Are You Lonesome Tonight." This was a live recording where Elvis changed a line of the song to make a joke, which he had been known to do from time-to-time ever since he started performing. But he became so tickled this time that he could not stop laughing. The last half of the song is mostly just Elvis laughing. What makes this recording remarkable is that it was actually released as a single in Europe after his death, and became a hit (which is why it is included here).

The best of the best Elvis compilations.......2007-01-26
This "HitStory" import has the best selling compilations "30 Number 1's" and "2nd to None" as disc one and two. Disc three, "The Story Continues" is not available serperately and is also a seminal Elvis compilation. This import version has a lot more tracks than the US version, 29 versus 19, and it also includes some key tracks such as "Suspicion" that Elvis "best-of's" typically overlook. As an added bounus it also features the infamous "Are You Lonesome Tonight" laughing version. The upshot is that this release has more songs and is a bit more ecclectic than its US counterpart and is a great addtion to any Elvis or music fan's collection. I would go as far to say that this and the US collecion are the best of the best. My only crictism is that they should have included a few more 1970's era singles such as "Raised on Rock", "T-r-o-u-b-l-e" and "If You Talk in Your Sleep (is on the U.S. Version.)

Dick Wagner: One of Rock's Best Guitarists.......2004-11-16
Very few play guitar as well or as fluidly as Detroit's own Dick Wagner. I saw him several times in the Sixties with his band the Frost at area venues including the Grande ballroom and the Detroit Rock and Roll Revival (in 1968), and there was little question that Wagner had shown up any number of guitar hotshots with his peerless, exciting fretwork.
ROCK HITSTORY - Dick Wagner.......2003-11-02
"As one of renowned producer Bob Ezrin's hired guns throughout much of the '70s, guitarist DICK WAGNER lent his playing (and in some cases, songwriting) talents to some of the decade's biggest hard rock albums, including Lou Reed's 'Rock N Roll Animal', Alice Cooper's 'Welcome to My Nightmare', and Kiss' 'Destroyer'. Hailing from the Detroit area, Wagner's first true band,THE FROST,formed in the late '60s & issued a total of three albums during their tenure together: 1969's 'Frost Music','Rock and Roll Music', & 1970's Through the Eyes of Love.
After relocating to New York and forming a new outfit,URSA MAJOR, the group was introduced to Ezrin, who handled the production chores on their 1972 self-titled release. Although the group would break up shortly thereafter, Ezrin and Wagner had struck up a friendship, as he began inviting him (as well as another guitarist,STEVE HUNTER),to play on sessions by other artists he was working with. Wagner and Hunter's playing meshed well together as the duo was able to construct seamless guitar lines that complimented each other nicely. Ezrin used the duo on Lou Reed's controversial 1973 studio release 'Berlin'.
Seeking to lighten the mood a bit on the album's ensuing tour, Ezrin aided Reed in assembling a stellar touring band including both Wagner and Hunter, who helped reconstruct Reed's tunes (including classics from his Velvet Underground days) as jamming arena rockers, as evidenced by a pair of subsequent live releases, 1974's classic 'Rock N Roll Animal' and 1975's 'Lou Reed Live'.Wagner and Hunter then signed on as guitarists for Alice Cooper's solo group (Cooper had just split from the original Alice Cooper Band), while Wagner also served as a songwriting collaborator with Cooper for his hit 1975 release 'Welcome to My Nightmare'. The album spawned a hit power ballad with "Only Women Bleed," a tune which Wagner had penned back in the late '60s, and has subsequently covered by numerous artists over the years, including Etta James, Tina Turner, and Lita Ford, among others.
The Wagner/Cooper union lasted for several other albums in the mid- to late '70s including Aerosmith's 'Get Your Wings'(it's supposedly Wagner and Hunter playing the guitar duel on "Train Kept a Rollin'").In 1977, Wagner found the time to issue a self-titled solo release for Atlantic Records.
In the 90's,Wagner created his own recording studio, Downtown Digital Studios, & started the WGM (Wagner Music Group) record label, which released this excellent CD in 1999. Highly recommended!!"
Dick Wagner- Finally.......2003-07-18
I first heard Dick Wagner back in 1972 with Ursa Major. I am a rock'n roll collector since the mid-60's and take my music seriously. This was an excellent album. I liked Dick when he played with Lou Reed on his "Rock'n'roll Animal" album, however prior to that I got to hear his Ursa Major-Ursa major album. This is without a doubt the best album I have song-for-song in over thousand albums and cd's including greatest hits. He was excellent withAlice Cooper too. I wish he would release something new now so some of these new guitarist could learn something. Dick is outstanding on anthems and ballads and straight-out rock n roll. I waited for years for this one. Hope to hear something soon 'cause I'll snatch it right up. I got a chance to travel for 20 years in the Air Force and Wagner's the best hands down when putting it all together.
Most Prolific Guitarist of Our Time.......2003-02-18
Dick Wagner has amassed a discography that reads as the who's who in rock history. From the beginnings in Michigan with The Bossmen, to his ever stellar production in the late 90s on the Brother Love album, Dick has always looked to the music as the inspiration. From touching guitar solos on Darkest Hour from the Ursa Major days, to his unreleased poignant song 'Jerusalem' about the universal soldier and war around the world, he has managed to keep up with the times, and be a better artist who expresses his feelings in his playing. No guitarist out there can match him note for note. From Aerosmith, to Peter Gabriel, to Steve Perry, to KISS, to Lita Ford and the list goes on and on. This is one guitarist every collector of rock must have. he is a hero to many, and a mentor to myself.
A Rock Giant. . ........2000-08-31
Anyone growing up in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan in the 60's and listening to live local rock music will remember Dick Wagner and the Frost. Wagner and Ted Nugent were the best of the best of Michigan guitarists and the argument as to which was/is superior generally came down to simply a matter of personal preference for the bands they fronted. Wagner was always my favorite, a classy guitarist with the additional advantage of a great voice. He went on from the Frost, to a Michigan "supergroup" called Ursa Major, to a long career as a lead guitarist with, among others, Alice Cooper. With all of these groups he was active as a songwriter also. This album contains Wagner's solo reworkings of songs he wrote through all periods of his career. I love this album; it is probably one of my two or three favorites of the decade. The songs definitely do not sound the same as the original versions, "reworking" is an accurate word here. But it is possible to love the originals ("Mystery Man" by the Frost, "Darkest Hour" by Ursa Major) and still be blown away by the way Wagner reinterprets them. The most familiar songs will probably be the Alice Cooper material ("I Never Cry", "Only Women Bleed") and the song that was a big hit for Air Supply ("Just As I Am"). Everything works here, and it just gets better with each listening. I am so glad that it's available here on Amazon.com because now I can buy a copy for my son, who fell in love with it too (he's in his twenties). Discover this one!
