Love IT to DEATH!.......2007-08-01
Oh man I love this album soo much I want to be buried with it (without the plastic) when I die and that says a lot cause there isn't much I want to be buried with. I must listen to it atleast once, every day. I find there isn't a weak track on it, Steele's vocals are superb and clear (unlike Life Is Killing Me). In my opinion this seems to be TON's best album for me thus far!
Quite the Doom Metal Masterpiece.......2007-07-21
Type O Negative is a band known for its moody spooky doom metal sound. Whether sometimes slighly corny the music itself is still amazing. This, next to World Coming Down, is one of my favorites by them. 90% of the songs on this album are at least good to great. The cd itself starts out with a slight joke to kind of get you acquainted with the band and their jokely nature. It then kicks out right into music with a pretty awesome opener "Love You To Death". The best songs on the cd, or at least my personal favorites are at the top "Wolf Moon", "Be My Druidess", "Burnt Flowers Fallen", and "In Praise Of Bacchus". The albums pretty much loaded with great tracks. Here's my ratings... (excluding interludes)
3. Love You To Death - 9.5/10
4. Be My Druidess - 10/10
5. Green Man - 10/10
6. Red Water (Christmas Mourning) - 7.5/10
7. My Girlfriend's Girlfriend - 8.5/10
8. Die With Me - 9/10
9. Burnt Flowers Fallen - 10/10
10. In Praise Of Bacchus - 10/10
11. Cinnamon Girl - 8/10
13. Wolf Moon - 10/10
14. Haunted - 6/10
Overall : 88% B+
Since the last song's the weakest it's not a great way to end the album but the amazing songs on the rest of the cd make up for it. It's just too bad "Wolf Moon" wasn't the last track. Anyway the whole ambiance of the entire album is amazing, that's why the cd still gets 5 stars. A really really awesome listen.
Taking a second, haunting listen.......2007-06-12
I absolutely hated this album when I first heard it. I had heard "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" off of an independent radio station near me. Since it was upbeat and somewhat dark sounding, I figured I'd give it a try. I had already heard the cover of "Black Sabbath", and not expecting a full album of this slow pace, I picked it up used. I was so disappointed. At the time, I was kind of depressed, a sophomore in high school, and I needed something even more depressing. Generally, I'd reach for Cannibal Corpse or some extreme death metal. The growling and screaming usually did the trick. I put this cd in and sat in a corner in my classroom (we were watching a movie at the time) and I could only listen to the same two tracks, the previously mentioned one and "Wolf Moon" solely because Peter Steele's voice on that track freaked me out. Safe to say, I sold this cd and moved on.
Now, some 9 years later, I picked it up AGAIN, trying to give it a second whirl. I am not disappointed this time, and I wish I had never gotten rid of it. Sure, the pace is slow and dreary, but the fact that it still scares me is unbelievable. The songs, the lyrics, the vocals, the keyboards, all of it fits the mood. This album is unbelievable and should be heard by anyone who likes music.
The best song, by far, is still "Wolf Moon". Listen to this late at night, alone, and in a car ride through the country and you, too, will get shivers down your spine.
My favorite Type O Negative album.......2007-05-16
I love this album as a whole and songs individually. I can listen to it over and over, year after year and continue to love it after many years. Definately one of their finest albums.
His voice will rock your soul and curl your toes!.......2007-01-07
This was my first introduction to TON and still my favorite. Forget about it being "Goth" forget about it being metal, it's just great music. Peter's voice is one of the most...spiritual experiences ever. This is a must for any lonely woman. So light some candles, crank it up, and make sure you have plenty of batteries on hand!
