5 out of 5 stars am i missing something?.......2006-11-24

I seriously can't hear the bad production on this cd. maybe its weaker than some other bands production (Origin) and maybe even some of their OWN albums (once was not) but the sound is really tight, and it makes it much more enjoyable to listen to.

Lord Worm is what got me into this band when i had a chance to see them live. I never really took a shine to them before i saw him become this undeniable presence on that stage. I was blessed by lord worm, my friend ate the worm, and threw up later that night.

I love them for everything theyve given me and the death metal scene.
Memories, a great front-man, and great music that helps the rest of us get through our lives.

highly recommended.
along with none so vile
ungentle exhumation (which really is worth it, although short)
and once was not (aka flo jacking off behind a drum set)

5 out of 5 stars Cryptopsy's great debut........2006-09-21

Though not as great as "None So Vile," "Blasphemy Made Flesh" still offers the stuff we want. Despite the bad production, you can hear every instrument in this album, even the bass!! Lord Worm sounds like the dark lord himself, and his lyrics are very intelligently written. Martin Ferguson's basslines are very awesome and unlike most other metal bands, they're completely audible; him and Flo are the strongpoints of Cryptopsy. Steve Thibault and Jonathan Levasseur deliver brutal and really fast guitar assaults. Last but not least, there's Flo Mounier. He's one of, if not the best drummers in the world; he can do machine gun double bass and incorporate jazz beats into the songs.

I love every song equally on this album equally, so there's no higlights.

If you love tech-death, put this in your collection now!!

4 out of 5 stars REMASTER IT.......2006-09-02

If the record is reading this, a remaster would totally rule. This album wouild be a masterpiece, and the music is awesome, but ______, the production is just awful. Who gives a ____ though? Well I do, but ________ sound aside, this cd owns. I think you should wait for a remaster. But otherwise, this is sweet.

5 out of 5 stars Close Your Eyes...This May Hurt A Lot!.......2006-08-12

Cryptopsy blew me away the first time I listened to them. It's like a mix of grindcore mixed with technical death and jazz. It's unbelievable. And this is the album that started it all.

"Defenstration" has some of the best bass lines you'll ever hear in music. And Flo Mounier is an unhuman blastbeat guy! Lord Worm, even though you can't understand the majority of his lyrics, fits in well with the band. Mike DeSalvo ("Whisper Supremacy" and "And Then You'll Beg" vocalist) is decent and all, but Lord Worm fits more perfectly.

You need this album, whether it's brutal death, tech death, or grindcore that fits your fancy.

4 out of 5 stars Solid debut.......2006-04-15

Cryptopsy's debut is 10 energetic tracks of standard death metal, with a few qualities that put it ahead of similar music. Some basic elements of later albums are here- tremolo picked riffs, the blastbeating and the grunts of Lord Worm (whose voice is not as developed here as the inhuman howl on "None So Vile", at this point it sounds fairly typical).

The production is crappy but honestly there's no Cryptopsy album that's really produced well, except maybe "And Then You'll Beg..." (I haven't heard it). The guitars in the low ranges are too thin for the notes to be audible over some of the more high-speed beats. The bass playing is very audible for once, actually, which is a plus- there's some very quick, great playing on here.

So what sets this album apart? Well, the lyrics for one are hilarious and clever throughout. Who but Lord Worm would come up with lines like "I just want to hold your pretty hand / The rest of you can be dissolved in acid." They're often sincerely disgusting but don't take themselves seriously at all (always one of Worm's best attributes as a death metal vocalist). Honestly entertaining to read, far above the pseudo-sinister/psychopath bravado of Chris Barnes.

Next, there's some great melodic guitar harmonies placed tastefully through this album, some great solos. "Abigor" has a geniunely haunting middle section, sounding more progressive than anything. "Serial Messiah" has some more great harmonies.

Furthermore, many of the tracks on this album absolutely rock, some of the best headbanging material there ever was. "Defenestration", "Serial Messiah" and "Born Headless" are the standouts to me, chunky, blistering riffs, occasionally slowing down drastically to massive, weighty effect. Cryptopsy's songwriting skills even at this stage were fairly advanced. Each song has interesting transitory licks, tempo changes, and about 5 different (often great) riffs.

Flo Mounier's drum performance here is standout like on every Cryptopsy album, going far beyond the call of duty for music of this nature. There are simple blast beats, but there's a surprising wealth of different ideas he brings in. "Gravaged" has some truly crazy and creative rhythms.

The playing is incredibly tight, there's one point in the album where the whole band literally stops in a millisecond for a brief pause and comes back in with more devastating riffage.

The vocals occasionally shine. They really do sound devilish. They're totally indecipherable like "None So Vile", but "Open Face Surgery" has a 30 second scream. Name another vocalist who can do THAT...

The songs are all very much similar, and that is the album's greatest weakness. If you're in the mood for some great ultra-heavy music, you can't go wrong here though. I'd love to see any of these songs live.

If you're a fan of old school death metal, this is recommended. The best idea is still to start with their classic "None So Vile", but these 2 albums are different enough for owning both to be worth it.

For those who enjoy a more progressive / technical slant on things, check out their albums with their second vocalist, Mike DiSalvo (particularly "Whisper Supremacy") or their new album "Once Was Not" (a masterpiece).

4 out of 5 stars The title says it all!!!.......2005-05-16

An under-rated release to say the least, this is 100% Incantation through and through. I know some have written off Incantation due to the fact that they still sound the same way they when they first started out...well, that's exactly what I like about them dammit!!! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's that simple. Besides a majority of the old school bands that changed (ie. Amorphis, Therion, Morgoth, and Samael, among others) sound like really gay mainstream crap.

Well, this album is awesome (which already was to be expected), but I did have a few problems with it which I call "The Mortal Throne" syndrome. The guitars sounded muddy in a couple of songs, and if you listen closely to the title track and "Crown Of Decayed Salvation", you can actually hear mistakes like they didn't care about the quality of those two tracks (On the second time he does that "Annihilate The Trinity"...riff the right side guitar goes off rhythm completely, and on Crown Of Decayed Salvation the timing on the "Rotting...withering..." riff where the drums stop the instruments come in at all the wrong places). Aside from those two significent gripes, everything else about this album is kick ass from start to finish.

5 out of 5 stars Incantation's Blasphemy proves that they still have it..........2004-12-08

Blasphemy was the first Incantation cd that I bought,I actually found it at a Bestbuy in Midland,TX of all places. For a town that has a church with no windows and no trespassing signs in the front lawn, this find was quite a treat indeed! The Infernal Storm was the first Incantation cd I ever heard and I liked it so much that I had to get my hands on an Incantation cd! I found Blasphemy, and as soon as I got home and listened to it,I was blown away by the bands pure, raw power and aggression. Mike Saezs' vocals go perfectly with this release and the one before it. Kyle Severns' drum skills are honed to perfection, although ther aren't any china crashes(I don't hear any) this drummer is one of my favorites in the business. Johns' guitar playing is awesome as usual, and the new bass player Joe keeps the evil bass lines coming. Standout tracks include(besides all of them except the last 2)are Blasphemy,The Fallen,Rotting With Your Christ,Deciever, and my favorite A Once Holy Throne. The latter one is a slower tempoed track, but to me it has a pure heavy ball dragging overall aggressiveness that I never get tired of listening to. When I need pure Death Metal at it's finest and plenty of tempo changes,Incantations' Blasphemy does it for me! 7 out of 5 on this bad a$$ cd!!!

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2005-01-13

This album kicks ass. Any fan of Behemoth will love this. The drumming is supurb, the vocals rule, and the riffs are sick. If you want to cross over to the "real" side of metal and get away from crap like Korn and Slipknot, this album would do it in a second (or maybe atleast 20 minutes \m/).

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Black Metal albums EVER!!!.......2004-05-30

Before I bought this, I had no idea what God Dethroned sounded like, but I thought I'd give this one a try. And Holy Crap, I wasn't disappointed! This album is heavy, brutal and interestingly, very catchy. Make no mistake, this is real black metal. This takes what Venom & Celtic Frost started in the early 80's and builds on it, adding elements that few other bands would ever think of. The lyrics are extremely well written, sounding like something taken right out of an H.P. Lovecraft story. Each song sounds different than the one before it. Most other black metal bands all sound the same, with each & every song sounding like a carbon copy of each other. Best songs on here are: "Nocturnal", which has some very creepy lyrics; "The Execution Protocol"; the epic "Soul Capture 1562"; my favorite track, "Firebreath", which is absoutely brutal; and of course the title track, which seems to be about some demonic being tearing Jesus off the cross and EATING HIM! Oh yeah, this is definitely some anti-Christian stuff. And it RULES!! Rarely have I been this impressed with a black metal album. One last thing: check out the band photos on the inside. They have been altered to make them look like old Satanic pictures. Other bands could take lessons from these guys on what black metal is supposed to sound like!

        5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2002-01-22

this album is as brutal as it is extremely sinister. "nocturnal" is one of the more relentlessly fast and evil songs i've heard. the production and mixing makes this a very good album... flawless. this is by no means a "ground breaking" black metal album, but you are also wasting your time by not picking it up.

5 out of 5 stars Dethroned does it again.......1999-10-05

Keeping the same formula as The Grand Grimoire, God Dethroned unleashes another attack of melodic, anit-christian death/black metal. The keyboards remain, though not as prevailing as in TGG. The 8-minute epic is here in the form of "Soul Capture 1562" as well as ferocious blast-beat songs like "Execution Protocol" and "Boiling Blood." Vocals still drudged from the bowels of hell. This CD is catchy, yet unrestrained, making one want to throw inanimate objects in pure, adrenaline induced fury. God Dethroned is a force not to be taken lightly. This is a must-have for true death metal fans!

2 out of 5 stars Oh my Gawd!.......2002-07-18

As Melanie Safka whimpered, "What have they done to my song?" More important to me is to try to understand why time, money, and effort was expended so as to preserve this dreadful noise on the virtually indestructible CD media format. Thousands of years after books will have decayed, this CD will survive.

What probably caused me to become so angry with this effort was the promise made by "Shrieks of the Mutilated," the opening cut; 49-seconds, however, goes by far too quickly when one calculates the cost-per-minute ratio.

"Ageless Existence," the ninth cut, brings things back into focus; alas, the effort is too late to erase from memory the previous, flawed rants. The final cut, "Annointing the Worms," shows the same sparkle that appeared in the first cut; but someone decided the CD was finished, and so we're left hungry. The 2-1/2 good songs justifies a 1-1/2 star rating.

The dynamics involved in the creative process can just as easily work *against* a project as toward it: this is what must have happened here. Well, at least you *were* warned that it would be wise to spend your hard earned cash on another CD. The effect of listening to this thing twice left me in such a mean and mad mental state--I hate getting [raked over] by a band I *used* to like--that I can't calm down enough to recommend an alternate.

5 out of 5 stars great sick black metal.......2001-05-01

Anyone that is in anyway interested with black metal should get this cd. It has members from bands like Necrophagia, S.O.D, and Autopsy. If you like any of those bands then you know whats in store for you when you get this.

          Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great Halocaustic, Nuclear, Necrosadistic BLACK METAL!.......2004-10-17

I never heard Fallen Angel Of Doom; their first LP but I can say that Gods Of War was a great release put out by one of the great unknowns.
Hailing from Canada, armed with bulletbelts, torches, swords and corpse paint, this group gives you a relentless assault of audio slaughter.
It's very low on the technical side but who's into black metal for the technicality?
And it proves that you can be black and still be into black metal. Hail brothers of the forgotten!!
