    Album Description

Following up on the success of 2004's The Inner Circle, Swedish dark metal gods, Evergrey, return with their sixth studio album, Monday Morning Apocalypse. On this release the band takes a more straight forward metal approach by working with famed producers Sanken Sankquist and Ralf Glaumann who have produced such greats as Rammstein, Britney Spears, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. The band has toured the US with Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Black Dahlia Murder and is currently planning their return.

    Album Description

The Swedish metal kings Evergrey are back with their 6th album. After the success of their last 2 albums and several tours, Evergrey are so much more than just metal. Power metal fans love them for their catchy melodies, goth fans love them for their dark side and heavy metal heads love them for their heavy approach. This time the album was produced by the producers team Sanken Sankquist/Ralf Glaumann (Rammstein, Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard). Inside Out. 2003.

5 out of 5 stars Listen to it, absorb it.......2007-05-04

Thats what you have to do in order to digest a cd. In this fast paced MTV world we are trained to skip through the tracks or "buy the single" without giving an album a try. This is good stuff, great guitar playing and a new sound.

I personally like it when someone tries a different guitar or different amp and change stuff up a little! There are less keyboards on this and killer melody and awesome tight riffage. You will like it.Dont believe the [...] This is a SOLID offering by a group of guys who think like you do.

    3 out of 5 stars Weak.......2006-12-24

I'm sorry if I offend any Evergrey fans but I happen to be one too and I have reviewed ea of their previous five albums and this is by far thr weakest one. This is just not up to the standards set on great albums like Inner Circle and In Search of Truth.

I must have listened to this thing twenty times and nothing and I mean nothing caught my attention. I used to brag how Evergrey has never made a bad album. Well, they have now! For old times sake I'm generosly giving it three stars.

3 out of 5 stars This album quickly goes stale........2006-09-29

As much as I enjoyed hearing this album the first five times, due to its more straight forward approach which produces an immediate affect, another five spins has the music gowing a bit stale. In the Evergrey catalog I would actually place this release somewhere in the middle to lower-middle area far below "Recreation Day" and "In Search of Truth" which remain their finest efforts. I initially gave this album 4 stars, but since it has very little staying power it is really closer to 3 stars in the long run. I prefer albums that become more interesting with each spin, not ones that become more stagnant upon return visits. Hopefully, Evergrey will someday embrace those progressive elements from their earlier albums that made them so special and return to greatness. Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars Still Producing Very Likeable Music.......2006-09-08

I have In Search of Truth and Recreation Day in addition to Monday Morning Apocalypse, and I love each of them. Monday Morning Apocalypse did not get as many good reviews as the other 2 titles, but I like it just as much. All 5 members of this band contribute something special, and the result is a heavy duty consistent sound that includes depth and resonates well with even the most jaded Metal lover. If you have enough money, get all 3 Evergrey albums that I mentioned. They are all superb.

4 out of 5 stars Not quite the Evergrey you would expect..........2006-08-22

This isn't an album that you would expect from Evergrey, well at least not totally. This album definitely is a step into a more progressive direction but less epic than their previous works; it seems that the music was meant to have more of an impact w/out possibly getting you lost along the way when you hear it. Not to say that Evergrey was a really complicated band musically, but this album is just a lot simpler in it's sound & delivery which makes easier to listen to; but don't worry, the band's typically sounds are there, just not in abundance. I think fans who give this album a chance would be surprised but yet would still be satisfied by what they hear. Check it out!

4 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfection... yet........2005-06-04

I'm late to the game with this CD. I came across Mastermind accidentally as they opened up someone in Poughkeepsie in 1997. If it were not for the insane drumming, I might have forgotten about them. I picked up 2 of their CDs and saw great potential. Complex arrangements abound, but they only hit on a really good SONG once in a while, and usually when Bill sang. But as a singer, he didn't strike me as having the emotion of some others. Since then I got out of prog and into more straightforward metal... until now. So I picked up this CD to see how it sounded.

I'm completely blown away. More well written songs on this CD than all their others combined. Very moving words and melodies, yet they still have their awesome Mastermind prog sound. I love Bill's lyrics and Lisa sounds great. Having a dedicated singer has added that missing dimension that they needed. Their potential is being realized.

The reason I don't give it a 5 is that the recording is not very good. It tends to be shrill. I've heard low budget recordings that sounded fabulous, so I know that $$ is not necessarily an excuse for that.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting progressive rock.......2004-10-14

Mastermind began as a fusion outfit, playing primarily instrumental music, but on this CD, they brought in new vocalist Lisa Bouchelle, and adopted a more song-oriented format. The songs remain fairly long, and contain extended instrumental sections, but these are now built around vocal melodies. The vocals are very professional, with an almost classical feel in places. The metal-tinged guitar riffs complement the singer nicely. The instrumental sections favor fluid solos, and the keyboards provide a good backgrop for the guitar. The result is music that is consistently interesting, and quite pleasant to listen to. This CD deserves more recognition than it has received up to now.

4 out of 5 stars the best is yet to come.......2002-11-07

I must say that after reading the other reviews that i thought maybe I had done the wrong thing in ordering this CD but now after listening to it many times I`m sure its very good. The new female singer Lisa Bouchelle is an exciting extra to Mastermind
she brings out a greater sense of melody . The guys are sounding fresh and the songs on this CD are also well written and musicaly outstanding with Bill Berends, Rich Berends and Jens Johansson these guys sound fantastic together. The version they do of ELP`s (The Endless Enigma)will make most prog heads drool. I don`t know what it is that some of the other reviewers hear (that they don`t like) but what ever it is I can`t hear it.
Well done Mastermind a very good CD, I feel the best is yet to come.

5 out of 5 stars GO BACK TO CLOWN SCHOOL.......2002-07-21

...its fantastic! The female vocals are a brilliant
inclusion to a truely brilliant musical base the ELP cover
is totaly wild...This is progressive metal done
the way its done today!!! if you are already a Mastermind fan
it would seem some of the other [reviewers] who reviewed arn`t, then you must have this CD!

3 out of 5 stars Not what one would expect, but still good........2001-11-12

Granted that they are at their best when doing completely instrumental songs, but I found that their added vocals took the band further than they would have gone if they'd kept on doing only instrumental songs. It is not as good as Excelsior, but it is still a good album. I think that this album will lead to something even better next time.
