3 out of 5 stars Maybe the acid test ..........2007-06-30

... is whether Warren would like it. I kind of think he would. Maybe he's sitting on a cloud somewhere, chuckling.

5 out of 5 stars Ain't So Bad.......2006-10-26

In fact, I really liked it!

what ya gotta do is burn a CD with the instrumental followed by the Zevon original. It works for me. I think Warren woulda got a kick outta this one. I can imagine him with a cigerette holder, wearing a gray flannel suit with gold matching cuff links and tie clasp humming along with these songs as he rides to the top floor of a high rise in an elevator. And...his hair is perfect!

1 out of 5 stars Shameful.......2006-08-26

You would be better served buying any other release full of WZ's music instead of this one. Part of the problem is the leaden execution of the music. It sounds like a totally midi programmed score, drum machines, midi instruments and the like. The second problem is that this release illustrates that, while WZ was a true genius musically, without his lyricism, his melodies can be repetitive. Don't agree with me? Then buy this CD, and listen to "Werewolves of London" 5 times in a row.

2 out of 5 stars The most lackluster "tribute" ever produced..........2005-02-02

The version of "Roland..." presented here is the only thing that keeps this from a 1 star rating. It's dull and lacks any of the intensity or originalitly that Zevon brought to the original recordings of these songs. "Enjoy Every Sandwhich" has some great moments and heartfelt tributes, this is an insult to a genius.

3 out of 5 stars the jury is out.......2004-03-07

i am a HUGE wz fan and have been since i first saw him live in boston circa 1980. i agree with some of the other comments. no lyrics means that you've lost more than half the power of zevon. however, i'm delighted that someone out there respects his songs so much as to put out a tribute record. but what i would really like to see (hear) is a tribute record performed by singer/songwriters, such as bob dylan, tom waits, elvis costello, or even eugene chadbourne, the residents or randy newman. now that would be fun !!!
and i still want 'the envoy' and 'stand in the fire' to be released on CD. get with it already !!!

3 out of 5 stars Rockin' good fun!.......2003-08-20

I bought this CD by mistake - I thought it had the recent single "Werewolves of London" on it - but it has become a favourite to play in the car. This band can really rock, no frills or fancy sampling (it is a 1993 album) just a great beat that will have you on the floor track after track after track.
And the track that I bought it for? Same lyrics as the single but given a ska/Madness treatment and just as good a track as all the others.
Buy this CD! It is good for you!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars worth if for hardcore fans.......2001-01-26

This is a soundboard recording w/ no overdubs, so it's a bit raw and unbalanced, but it's kinda interesting and the performances are sometimes inspired. Weird vibe on Rock Bottom; you can tell Schenker is a little bored of playing the old tunes at times, but other times, he's spot on and ripping. Doesn't have the magic of strangers, or the big venue sound, but i didn't feel ripped off. paul raymond is hard to hear on rhythm guitar and the drums and bass sound flat, but overall, much better than a bootleg. Schenker's volume dominates and phil's voice is pretty strong throughout (and he engages in some playful banter w/ the crowd). I just wished they'd recorded a live disc from the 95 tour, which seemed much more inspired.

5 out of 5 stars ufo at their best.......2000-09-25

the best ufo cd ever. schenker has never sounded better.

5 out of 5 stars You can't stop rock and roll.......2000-08-13

I want to first point out that this album does not compare to Strangers in the Night. Never will. That aside this album is good for new UFO followers. It rocks just they did when they toured in 95. I saw them in concert and they rocked like they never left. This could be a sleeper album for them in that they do what they know best...play from the heart. A good album for fans of UFO.
