3 out of 5 stars Good, but Incomplete..........2007-06-05

I like the remixes; and the new songs "Let's Put the X in Sex" and "Rock Hard" are a bit poppy and 80's style, but I like them, I think they're fun, catchy songs that rock out. "X in Sex" was big on MTV. I loved Eric Carr, but why they had him re-do "Beth" as if Peter Criss was dead...I'll never figure out. The tracklist is incomplete! Where the heck are "Crazy Nights" and "Reason to Live" which were big hits for them just one year prior to this release?? Also, "Uh! All Night", "Fits Like a Glove" "War Machine" "All Hell's Breakin Loose" ????? I mean where are the OTHER KEY songs that came out since the last compilation at this point since Double Platinum???

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF KISS' BEST COMPILATION ALBUMS EVER ON ONE DISC........2007-04-08

I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "KISS, SMASHES, THRASHES & HITS" by one of Rock's greatest legendary bands that truly knew how to Rock & kick a*s in order to electrify the stage with tons of drama. I give you one of America's pride and joy's, K-I-S-S. "SMASHES, THRASHES & HITS" was originally released in 1988 on Compact Disc and Cassette on the Mercury Records label in association with KISS Organization Ltd. which in turn is manufactured and marketed by PolyGram Records Inc. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

WHEN KISS came on the music scene in 1974, it was clearly evident and obvious that this band was destined for greatness. KISS' main mission and goal in the world of Rock n' Roll was to simply kick a*s and take no prisoners. KISS will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for further advancing the Rock n' Roll concert show and pick up where fellow contemporary artists ALICE COOPER AND DAVID BOWIE left off. KISS would accomplish this incredible task with not just their own special blend of Rock n' Roll music, but additional electrifying drama in order to act their music out on stage right before your very eyes. KISS would also be known the world over for their incredible charisma and the fantastic garments, costumes and facial makeup that the band would wear for so many years before finally removing the makeup later to expose their true identity. With their make-up and costumes on, original KISS drummer Peter Criss would dress up as "The Cat," original KISS guitarist Paul Stanley would dress up as "The Starchild," original KISS bassist Gene Simmons would dress up as "The Demon," original KISS lead guitarist Ace Frehley would dress up as "The Spaceman" and the late great drummer that would replace Peter Criss, Eric Carr would dress up as "The Fox." Other than the a*s kicking Rock n' Roll that KISS would forever be known for, many KISS fans would just go to the concert mainly just to see the drama and the incredible explosions, rising flames of fire and the psychedelic multi-lights extravaganza not to mention the KISS trademark make-up and costumes that the band wore to completely entertain the audience with more than they can handle. Other than the concert show and the stage extravaganza, KISS truly knew how to Rock and would back it up everytime the band played live on stage. Since 1974, KISS has released many great albums and hit songs and would prove it by going on tour to promote these albums and hit songs to the max which brings me to the compilation album I'm about to review for you now. This legendary KISS compilation album is the result of the many compilation albums and hit songs that the band has recorded through the years resulting in one of the many greatest hits compilation albums that the band has ever released. However, "SMASHES, THRASHES & HITS" is definitely one of KISS' best greatest hits compilation albums ever and on one disc. In my opinion, the "SMASHES, THRASHES & HITS" compilation album is definitely without a doubt, a real true testament of the sheer gracefully skilled genius and musical creativity of four extremely talented masterminds. This legendary compilation album is also a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band who calls themselves KISS, a band that is definitely truly indeed, far ahead of their time.

And now it is time to let the Rock n' Roll music of KISS to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking. This legendary compilation album begins with the blunt and a*s kicking hard Rocker "Let's Put The X In Sex," the in your face merciless hard Rocker "(You Make Me) Rock Hard," the explosive hard Rocker "Love Gun," one of Rock's greatest 70's a*s kicking hard Rockin' anthems, "Detroit Rock City," this hard a*s Rocker is one of Rock's greatest music statements, "I Love It Loud," the incredible energetic Rocker "Deuce," the amazing KISS Rocker with a message, "Lick It Up," the breathtaking KISS Rocker "Heaven's On Fire," the blistering KISS hard Rocker "Calling Dr. Love," THE ROLLING STONES sounding thrashing Rocker "Strutter," the slow and beautiful orchestrated mild Rocker sung by the late great Eric Carr, "Beth," the wild smashing KISS hard Rocker "Tears Are Falling," the unbelievable KISS Disco hard Rocker "I Was Made For Lovin' You," this hard Rocker is one of Rock's as well as KISS' greatest anthems ever recorded, "Rock And Roll All Night" and the groundbreaking KISS hard Rocker "Shout It Out Loud." May I also add that for this great legendary compilation album, original drummer Peter Criss and lead guitarist Ace Frehley would be replaced with the late great drummer Eric Carr and lead guitarist Bruce Kulick. Despite the replacements, KISS still kicks a*s.

Overall, this is one hell of a greatest hits compilation album that is worth seeking out further into and checking out especially if you are a serious diehard KISS army member and fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners to the sound and music of KISS, I would still highly recommend buying this compilation album to start out with. However, ther are many other KISS greatest hits compilation albums that you might want to research further into in order to purchase the right compilation album that is right for you. All of KISS' compilation albums are for sale on amazon. Which ever choice you make, I promise you that you will not be disappointed nor will you ever regret it or be sorry that you ever bought a KISS album. Believe me, you'll be glad that you did.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary greatest hits compilation album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary album has definitely proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great KISS compilation album that all music fans as well as devout music collectors would not want to be without.

In closing, despite the huge success of KISS, the band has had their fair share of up and downs and highs and lows throughout their long and glorious career. KISS has endured and persevered through some really tough tragedies and tribulations such as the sudden and untimely death of drummer Paul Caravello A.K.A. Eric Carr on 24 November 1991 and the recent death of guitarist Mark Norton A.K.A. Mark St. John on 5 April 2007. Guitarist Ace Frehley has been replaced by Bruce Kulick, Mark St. John, Vinnie Vincent and Tommy Thayer. Drummer Peter Criss has been replaced by the late Eric Carr and Eric Singer. KISS, without a doubt, has definitely left their mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. So here's to you Peter, Paul, Gene, Ace, the late great Eric, the late Mark, Eric S., Bruce, Vinnie and Tommy. Thanks for the great memories. Keep The faith. ERIC CARR LIVES. MARK ST. JOHN LIVES. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that all of you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. KISS RULES. R.I.P. PAUL CARAVELLO A.K.A. ERIC CARR, Born 12 July 1950, Died 24 November 1991 at age 41. Also R.I.P. MARK NORTON A.K.A. MARK ST. JOHN, Born 7 February 1956, Died 5 April 2007 at age 51. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

3 out of 5 stars Kiss Rock Hard.......2006-11-10

This has 2 new songs on it with X in Sex and Rock Hard, both songs i like, and both were sung by Paul Stanley who was doing most of the vocals at the time. These are 2 realy good rock songs.
Another new song was Beth sung by Eric Carr. While it wasnt exactly a new song it was a remake of Peter Criss's brilliant version.
While i think he realy sung it well, the problem is that this song simply belongs to Peter Criss, and nobody is ever going to sing it better.
While i concider it an experiment, and i dont have a problem with bands experimenting with different things, its one that never realy took off.
I like it and im glad they did it,even more since the passing of the master of the skins Eric Carr.
The rest of the album has nothing that realy catches the attention.
There is some remixes, which i dont like them messing about with.
There seemed to be some over dubbing that wasnt bad but never beat the original versions.
While this album is interesting the best part about it is the 2 entirely new tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Not exhaustive, but still a good collection.......2006-10-14

It's tough to make a greatest collection of only 1 CD for a band with the popularity and longevity of KISS, but this is a good effort and a great release for this group. It contains classic hits, as well as a few new songs.

If you are a long-time fan of the band, then I need not say much because you already know that what's on here is all good. If you are less familiar with the group, just pick up this CD and it will give you a taste of this legendary rock band. If you love this, then go out and get yourself a box set or any of their many original recordings.

4 out of 5 stars Lets put out x compilations .......2006-05-19

KISS is the hottest band in the world but when it comes to compilations...They had so many and it causes damage to them. They dont seem to know cause they have so many on the market and a few should not have been made. This version has all the songs fans already have but the only thing worth it is the new songs.

3 New song have been recorded for this release:Lets put the x in sex,(you make me)rock hard and Beth sang by Eric Carr. The band itself hated the new songs but i dont know why cause they are somme of the best songs in a while(mostly lets put the x).This compilation is good for starters and to get somme 80s stuff not the best compilation but not the worst one either.Lets put the x in sex is the reason i gave a 4 stars rating.3 because its ok,its for newcomers and i already have the songs but an extra star because of that song.

Beth sang by Eric Carr is a controversial song. Some say its nicely re-done while some say its a disaster KISS fans shall have debates to decide that. The band decided that each drummer the band would have, had to have the Peter alike rough voice when beth became a hit.Eric Carr didnt want to sing it but he did in what is one of his only vocal performances while in KISS.

Overral its a good compilation with classics and new songs i would get this only for the new songs but if you are a beggener its a good intro to KISS but you could get better.
