5 out of 5 stars 1st Class Old School American Thrash.......2007-07-12

Before Metallica's Black LP, there was Thrash. The Reich is one of the bands that has never been in the 'golden' league of Thrash but they have been one of the pioneers of the second wave of Thrash Metal at the end of the 80s.

This is a re-master edition (good quality) of their first LP and EP with added bonus and demo tracks. The package includes their first demo also. Moreover, a DVD equipped with their performance in 1989. As a whole, it is 2 CD + 1 DVD.

The lyrics are political and anti-government. They are not in your face, let's start a revolution type. More clever stuff... Fast, sick riffs with old school (u can understand who is singing what) vocal vibe. More within the lines of Dark Angel, Vio-Lence and Forbidden then Metallica and Megadeth, these album(s) have been good quality metarial of the genre at the end of the 90s before Grunge Killed'em All.

Overall this is a good value of money considering that these LPs are out of print (and u can only find them in e-bay - of course more expensive -) and their performance is one of the unique things left to us from the old video tapes of the 80s (though the sound is much more better than the video quality). Buy it if u still miss the old days of Thrash.

5 out of 5 stars Seven years later..........2006-09-27

I remember when this album came out summer 1999. At that point Face To Face had been dormant for nearly two years (a hefty stretch for them). Now, after a full year in the studio, they were finally releasing their fourth full-length studio album.

At this point in my life, at age 19, I had come to the conclusion that the "punk scene" had had spent my high school life defending was beyond repair. The supposed "punk rock values" were completely self-centered and self-serving. "Sell-out" was rhetoric applied to anyone who stepped outside punk's clearly drawn boundaries. Major labels, MTV, large venues -- none of this would do for a "true" punk rock band. Heaven forbid you try to stretch past breakneck tempos and power chords.

When IGNORANCE IS BLISS finally dropped, I was mezmorized. Trever & co. showed that they had more up their sleeve than Disconnected and I Won't Lie Down. No punches were pulled in the production; besides decidedly un-punk song structure, they also added string arrangements (thus elevating the song Burden from "excellent" to "ethereal") and ambient sounds that enhanced the mood of the record. It was, and is, flawless.

So naturally, the "punk rawkers" despised it. Their website was flooded with barely coherent complaints. When they headed out on tour shortly after the album's release they were met not only with disapproving crowds, but with violence (which, in part, led to guitarist Chad Yaro's departure the following year). The tour had to be cancelled.

Face To Face then released two more albums, both returning to the "punk" stable, which is unfortunate. In 2003 they called it quits after sufficiently placating their fan-base.

So now, seven years later, the dust has settled. What of Ignorance Is Bliss?

Don't Turn Away is a punk rock cliche. Reactionary smacks of damage control. How To Ruin Everything is a band bored with their music and each other. But Ignorance Is Bliss stands as strongly as ever. With the lyrical brilliance of Heart Of Hearts or Prodigal, or the musical beauty of Everyone Hates A Know-It-All or Lost, it all proves that, for at least a little while, Face To Face was truely one of the greats.

5 out of 5 stars You don't even know...........2006-03-02

Let me tell you how good this album is. I named my son Trever Keith after the lead singer of Face to Face. This is the only punk album I've ever heard that actually made me "feel" the music rather than just hear it. By far the best work Trever Keith has ever done. To me, punk is not a sound. It's an ideal, the way you are. Trever Keith had the most punk ideals out of any other lead man I've listened to. He came in, said what he had to say, and Face to Face left the scene.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic well written album.......2005-12-17

This is such an exceptional album. Not many punk bands have this kind of talent shown with this kind of song writing. Face to Face took a different direction with this one. It is much slower then the rest of their faster punk style albums. Many F2F fans ragged on this album saying it wasn't punk and then F2F changed back to their original sound for later albums which I believe really limited their growth as a band.

4 out of 5 stars Face to Face's Best Written Album.......2005-08-27

When this was released it was met with so much scrutiny they immediately went in and recorded the lackluster "Reactionary". Don't get me wrong, I love the old punk rock Face to Face but this album is just amazing. It is slower, a little more "emo" maybe. Definitley a huge step and a huge risk song-writing wise and I think it paid off brilliantly. I hate the fact people will diss a band because they stop being so "punk rock". That term is so cliche and lame. A band as good as face to face deserves to put out whatever style sound they want. This is definitley their highlight and most heartfelt release. I feel like Trever Keith is really throwing everything he has into this! Thumbs WAY up! Highlights: Burden, Heart of Hearts, I Know What You Are, The Devil You Know, Run In Circles *To really show how good this CD is. From losing or ruining my copies of this album I have purchased this in stores 4 totally different times. No joke. Never done that before.*

4 out of 5 stars If only you could understand.......2005-06-04

First of all i gave this only 4 starts because in my opinion there are less than 100 albums ever released to deserve five stars. This album is near perfection. I have been a face to face fan for a long time now and i own almost all of their work. I love the regular punk face to face has to deliver just like everyone else. My favorite album is probably self-titled or big choice. I read a lot of reviews on hear from idiots that bash this album. These idiots do not understand change, artisitic integrity, or a simple desire to try something new. This album is a big change for face to face. But it only shows you the capability of an amazing band. This record is near flawless for the type of music it delivers. It is a masterpiece of its own creation. If you can not understand that then you shouldn't be listening to this band in the first place. because if you listen to face to face's overall style, thats exactly what it is. A masterpiece of its own creation.

This band put out 2 good albums and went totally un-noticed. This is the first album. It's very riffy, catchy, and funky. Nothing mind blowing, but has good production and definitely rocks. The drummer has a nice warm tone on his drums. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Sacred Reich at their very best!.......2003-01-25

This album is essential! Much faster and more thrash-oriented than Sacred Reich's later releases (which progressively began to place more emphasis on groove rather than speed). Some truly classic tracks on this one. Pure thrash!

        5 out of 5 stars Thrash Classic.......2003-01-17

i agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer. this is an underrated thrash classic. the beginning of Death Squad is one of the greatest intros to a metal/hardcore album ever. methodically bludgeoning riffs with a powerhouse rhythm gives way to breakneck speed that holds it's course throughout. comparable to Reign In Blood in it's instrumental dexterity and technical precision. 'nuff said...

5 out of 5 stars Shades of Bungle.......2002-08-26

This is an excellent album. When I first listened to it, I was reminded of Mr. Bungle's first, self-titled album. To those of you that may not have heard Mr. Bungle, being compared to that band is a very strong endorsement. The Phantom Limbs, however, are more punk than metal in territory similar to many post-FNM Patton works. The creepy carnival motif is fantastically done and never necessary. This album could easily have suffered by relying on its gimmick as a crutch. The scary organ and carnival style, however, are not a crutch on this album, but a perfect augmentation. The music would clearly be quite good even if it were taken away. Hopefully in the future more punk will sound like this, than what is foolishly referred to as "punk" now.

Something Very new and twisted The Phantom Limbs are
a band that when you listen to it , you really listen to it
it's like if you took Goth and punk, and had a Southern Revival
at a circus, lots of great organs they also have a fantastic presence on
stage thier front man Hopeless screeches a desperate cry like

4 out of 5 stars i like this heckle album better.......2004-02-04

heckle were a good band who followed the socal style of hardcore punk ala AFI in there earlier days, but they were from jersey, where ensign and mouthpiece resided and definitely have a clear love for old school NYHC. where as the first album, we are not laughing with you, was more punk, this album finds steve cunningham getting more involved in the gorilla biscuits tendencies that he only hinted at on his first album. while not anything new in terms of style, steve brings a good dose of guitar dynamic to an otherwise basic music form. heavily influenced by dag nasty at times, it is the little guitar flourishes that decorate this album. that and steve has a knack for writing catchy ass hardcore songs....

some of these songs remind of some of the best late 80's NYHC songs that were never written, "along for the ride", "jokes on me", "dependence", "so much the same" with ther fast rhythms leaading into a classic hardcore breakdown, sometimes complete with youth crew vocals. other songs are of the more fast punk variety found on alot of socal hardcore bands such as pennywise, AFI, and bad religion and of course dag nasty (though they were from DC). there is a cover song, "C.O.I. - convenience of ignorance" that is from an old band of steves and the drummers called seven years war that were from vermont. they were way more metallic but with dense mathy rhythms that would've made bands like converge and coalesce proud.

2 out of 5 stars Get their first record.......2002-03-08

After We're Not Laughing With You, I was stoked for this to come out and bought it without listening to it. That was a mistake.

Gone are the melodic hardcore hooks from the first album, and in place is just fast, generic music, without a soul.

I think punk rock is the most dynamic musical genre but all the songs on this album sound the same.

Heckle displayed so much talent with their first record but had nothing left for round two, and appropriately called it quits after this album.

This is by no means original hardcore, in thought or in musical prowess. It does have good breakdowns and some keen sing-a-long choruses, but many of the songs run together, which is good if you like the record but a serious fault if you dont.

4 out of 5 stars La Complicada Futilidad de la Ignorancia.......2005-11-25

5 out of 5 stars It Is Heavy. Heavy. And Did I Mention Heavy?.......2003-03-24

Fudge Tunnel's enigmatic mix of sludge, doom, and strait up heavy metal has captivated listeners since their forming in Nottingham, England. With their final full length release 'The Complicated Futility of Ignorance' they show have much they have grown as a band. Their heavy, "fuzzed out" riffs have become louder and louder as the band progressed and at their peak can break down small buildings in played loud enough. As I have said before, Fudge Tunnel has taken their sound to a whole new level. Unlike their previous albums - though all extremely great records - `The Complicated Futility of Ignorance's' production is above par; leaving distortion on when intended. Another great thing about this album is its Paul De Amore (ex-Tool) like bass lines; it appears that the bassist picked up some great ideas. The guitars are as great as always, no real change there. The drumming is absolutely fantastic, it shows its diversity by playing well on all the tracks. Vocally the album is great. The vocals are hard to describe - something like a Ministry type yell. The diversity on this album is very apparent with doom style tracks like "Find Your Fortune" and "Six Eight" (think about modern Neurosis or Khanate) to faster, heavier metal tracks like "Suffering Makes Great Stories" and "Random Acts of Cruelty" (done in Fudge Tunnel's own style of heavy metal). The best track on the album is "Excuse". The lyrics, the music, the vocals, the chorus ("I don't need an excuse to hurt myself..."), everything is just perfect. Their cover of "Pope Calvin III" (track 12) kicks in after five minutes of silence and just slays. Still, songs all bands need a song like "Suffering Makes Great Stories" with its perfect pitch of heaviness, and great riffs. Like the Melvins, Fudge Tunnel is a band that will never of out of style. Their last album is a serious MUST OWN to heavy metal lovers everywhere. Head bang until your g oddam ned neck snaps.

5 out of 5 stars sludgy fuzz guitar bliss.......1999-07-25

Fudge Tunnel shows once again they are the masters of thick, layered distortion guitars, mad hooks, and a grooving bass lines. Smashing Pumpkins meets Helmet.

4 out of 5 stars try and top this.......1999-04-06

The Complicated Futility Of Ignorance just goes to show you how far these guy's have grown as musicians. The drums are stomping and violent with alot more depth and a more open sound. The guitar is thick and distorted with riffs that leave you wanting more. The bass is fat and ripped a hole in my new speaker. This is Fudge Tunnel's Last full length album and one of there best. If you like Fudge Tunnel you will love this one.
