4 out of 5 stars Solid Album.......2007-07-30

I became a fan when the BLACKOUT cd came out, but have never liked every song on any of Hed P.E. cd's. Generally, I like 3 or 4 songs and would rate their cd's as a 3. "Bartender" was the only track I liked on the BROKE cd. I say this, not to down Hed P.E., but to emphasize that this cd is much better than any of their previous work in my opinion. The sound on ONLY IN AMERIKA and BACK 2 BASE X are brought together on this cd. To me, until this release, these were their best 2 efforts in spite of ONLY IN AMERIKA seeming like a bunch of kids acting out.
My favorite tracks on here include; Game Over, Suffa (which I first heard on XM radio or would not have even known of this release), Coming 2 Get U and the cover of Children. Unlike their previous cd's all the tracks are very listenable and overall, this is a pretty damn good cd.

2 out of 5 stars Wow...what are they doing?.......2007-07-24

After Back 2 Base X I thought Hep PE was back and here to stay. I was happy that Subnoize had picked them up and improved them from Only in Amerika, which was only an OK album. Broke had been my favorite up until Back 2 Base X. Blackout was terrible, and I feel the same about Insomnia. The lyrics are horrible and make no sense. Only 3 songs are good and the rest are pure garbage. I hope the next release is like Back 2 Base X. Hed PE knew that Only in Amerika was sub par and thats why the last album was called Back 2 Base X. They were getting back to their roots and doing music the way they used to. Now, Insomnia sounds like Only in Amerika, just without the over use of the "F" word. The only songs that saved my review from a 1 star rating are Comeova2nite, Children, and Don't Let Me Down. The rest on the album is pure garbage. I'm sorry Hed PE, but get back to the days of Broke and Back 2 Base X. Seriously, If your exploring new music, Hed PE is an awesome band, just don't pick up this album for an intro. Go with Broke or Back 2 Base X.

5 out of 5 stars amazing effort from the underground.......2007-07-19

As a long time fan of Hed pe's music from there first album "Church of Realities," and from seeing them live for the first time in 1998 opening for Soulfly in Chicago, this band has never gotten the credit or recognition they deserve. Their latest album "Insomnia" blew me away the first time I listened to it. This band continues to reinvent themselves in a way that they stay true to their fan base as well as keepin it real from when they formed in the early to mid 90's. From all the cross-over rap/rock/hop-hop/metal, this band has been the most unique from the start. It is rare these days to find a band such as Hed pe that continues to fuse different styles of music into one entity and can actually pull it off. Most people do not know that Hed pe paved the way for a lot of the corporate MTV B.S bands.
From heavy guitar riffs of the song "Walk on By" to the punk rock sound of "Habeus" to the Tu-Pac-esque vibe of the hip-hop sound on "comeova2nite" any open minded musician or fan of different styles of music from metal to punk to hip-hop to reggae should appreciate the latest effort of Hed pe's Insomnia. Go out and pick up a cd today.

4 out of 5 stars Good, But Not Great.......2007-07-19

Now I may be in the minority here, but i thought the past two releases by (hed) pe were great albums, possibly the best of their careers. and i was hoping on having it continue on this way with their new release "Insomnia." were my hopes fulfilled? Both yes and no. there are some great songs on here, but there are others that are just completely disappointing.
With the good parts: Walk on By is a killer song, no doubt about it. Possibly one of the best of their careers. Game Over is also a great one, more remniscent of an "Only In Amerika" song than anything else found on here. Suffa is good, although maybe not the best choice for a lead single. it reminds me of Get Ready off "Back 2 Base X", a good song but not the best choice to hear what HED is really about. Comeova2nite is the straightforward rap song on the cd, and Jahred lays it down smoothly. RTO is a pretty satisfying listen. good lyrics, and a good appearance by Big B accompany it very well. I love Children, i find it to be a great cover of the Buffalo Springfield Classic. Tienanman Squared is another good one, and Don't Let Me Down would fit perfectly aside anything from "Back 2 Base X".
Now the not so good: Not a big fan of Habeus. His singing in this song, not his screaming, is what ruins it for me. Just doesn't sound like him, like he's trying too hard to sing. C2GU is decent, just nothing truly memorable. Same thing Goes For Atlantis A.D. One song i'm just confused about is Mirrorballin. It's an interesting listen, it's just too stupid to actually be a good song. And the biggest disappointment of the whole cd was Wind Me Up. I'm a big fan of KMK and (hed) pe, but the two together didn't work well whatsoever. Tech N9ne didn't do anything for me on the song either.
So Summary: good cd, mostly good songs on it, with a few stinkers. (hed) pe should stick with what they do best, and leave the guests on the backburner.

4 out of 5 stars Mr Hip Hop, Mr Punk Rock........2007-07-19

Before I get into my review, I just have to say (hed) pe is without a doubt my favorite band. I have yet to write a review of a (hed) pe album just because I was afraid it would be a biast view. After several listens to "Insomnia" I think I can provide a fair, yet great assesment of the bands 6th full lenght album.

(hed) pe has been around a looong while now, with 6 full length albums, one "best of" album, and an EP over the span of around 12 years. While "Insomnia" is ONE of their best works, still does not top 2000's "Broke" or their funky fresh 97 self-titled release. (I do highly urge for new listeners to pick up both albums, you will not be dissapointed)

First listen through "Insomnia" might have listeners thinking "What the F?!?!" While this album is easily the most diverse of their career, fusing together almost ever style of music imaginable. And yes, (hed) pe can do this, masterfully. It's like an album to sum up all of their previous albums, and putting every phase they went through on one amazing disc.

The intro "Madhouse" is easily one of (hed)'s darkest, heaviest sounding tracks, and it's a shame its only an intro. Metal fans will love the creepy feeling it provides. "Walk on By" is a tribute to the older sound of the band, having lead vocalist Jared screaming, singing, and shout rapping at his finest. "Game Over" is a punk/metal/rap track, and great flows by Jah. "Suffa" is the first single, and rightly so, very fast, angry song with some of the best lyrics on the disc. "Comeova2nite" is straight up hip-hop, and Jared is in top form on the track, some of the gunshot samples make it seem a little to mainstream G-unit sounding, but (hed) pe is about the only band in the world that could pull it off. "RTO" is another fusion of rap and punk, and is awesome. "Tienaman Squared" is straight up in your face punk, and has great lyrics. The last 4 songs of the album are all very solid and each is of different style. "Atlantis A.D." could be one of (hed) pe's most solid tracks of recent memory. Great instrumentals, while drummer Devin (replaced by Tiny) puts a great hip-hop beat to the other wise very hard track, and again Jared's flow is on top of it.

Now the reason's it didn't get the glorious 5 star review. "Habeus", while not a bad song, shows no evolution from their previous effort "Back 2 Base X". It really sounds like it could have been copied and pasted from B2BX to this album, a very forgetable track on "Insomnia". And maybe the worst song (hed) has ever done, "Mirrorballin" is just ridiculous...enough said.

Like I said, "Insomnia" is not their best, but definatly a great relief to see (hed) pe back in top form. The album shouldn't dissapoint long time fans, and also if you have an open mind on what style of music you like, give this a spin, very experimental and original. The choruses of the songs have left me singing them in my hed all day long since I first heard it, and it will have you singing them too.

"Until the end of time, I will rebel in the face of all tyrants!"

5 out of 5 stars This CD is good........2007-07-11

In my opinion, damn near evey track on this cd is great, I don't know what these fools below me are talking about. Yes "Broke" was good, and "Blackout" was not so good, but this cd has to be my favorite yet. Why do the lyrics need analyzed?? They're silly and entertaining. Isn't that what music is supposed to do, entertain? "The Truth" and "Daydreams" are two really good tracks. I realize this review isn't super helpful, but I have to defend this cd against the Conservative Republican reviews put on here.

3 out of 5 stars maybe (hed) pe's worst... but still (hed) pe.......2007-06-06

This is easily probably (hed) pe's worst album with maybe the exception of "blackout". But what people need to understand is Hed's rythym section took a serious hit with this album with the loss of two great guitarists wesstyle and Chizad and a great drummer B.C. So with that in mind the quality of the music isn't going to be as great as it used to be but they still do the job. There are some great (hed) p.e. classics on this Album with kick off track "Represent" also: "wake up" "war" "Voices" and "raise hell". The hidden rap song at the end of the CD is also a pleasent surprise. However there are some songs that just should have never been put on here that do drag the album down and just simply don't cut it. Mainly "the Truth" and "amerikan beauty". All in all there is still some raw (hed) pe material on here that any true fan can vibe with. I'm just thankful that (hed) pe is still around and they prove that they can still get down. It's only up hill from here thankfully. Check out "Back to Base X" and upcoming Album "insomnia".

1 out of 5 stars Who would want to copy this junk anyway???.......2007-01-02

This is quite possibly the worst CD I have made the mistake of purchasing in a long, long time. The CD protection software is so pathetic and corrupt, it makes this virtually impossible to use - unless I start carrying a discman to the gym again. Not anytime soon. What I really can't figure out is who in the heLL would want to pawn this horrible stuff off on other people? If they have heard it, I guarantee they won't want a copy. Whiny, expletive filled lyrics and a sad attempt at music. This was tired before it was burned and distributed. Save your money.

5 out of 5 stars Very Underrated........2006-11-22

I don't see what the problem is people have with this album. I was very impressed with this CD, yes it's vulgar and childish, but as far as I know, they did it on purpose. Raise Hell is honestly the best song, with a very nice guitar solo at around 3:35 until the end of the song. In short, this CD seems to be bashed and pissed on because it's not Broke.

Yes the Rap-Metal boom has been dead for years and yeah Hed should have gotten more respect, but it beats the worn out Metalcore bands such as KillSwitch, and Trivium among others, that play the same played out Hardcore with gothenburg riffs and solos. Also Hed isn't Nu Metal, as they don't play the same two cords over and over, and not to metion the guitar solo's, which Nu Metal never uses.

Buy this CD, it's underrated.

1 out of 5 stars Uh..what did you expect kids?.......2006-09-07

Hed(PE) is a horrible group that was never good, nor talented. Just because you can write nursury rhymes and throw down beats on a drum with bass and guitar does not make you a tight group. These guys are horrible, and this album reconfirms it. Many reviewers are stating that their vocalist sounds like a whiny baby on this album. Well what did he sound like on their previous albums? He has always sounded like a baby who cannot rap or sing! He was horrid On Methods of Mayhem and horrid in Hed(PE). This band sucks and is for NU-Metal fans only(basically kids who hate their parents for some odd reason or another and just love to be overall angry at the world because they cannot face the fact that they suck).
Do not buy this album. DO NOT! It is horrid beyond belief.

5 out of 5 stars More like the old hed, sort of.......2006-09-26

I've been a big fan of this mob since their first two records blew me away in the late 90's with a very original sound and a very intelligent lyric content. Then came 'broke', which was very good, 'blackout', which was also pretty good although not as strong perhaps as their first stuff, and then the other one a couple of years ago (to sum up how excited about that I was).

Now comes this record which I feel captures the sort of intelligent thought they had on their selftitled album (I still consider their best) but has the agression of the other one (only in amerika) - and it works. It's got a very lively sound to it, MCUD's vocals are great as usual, lots of energy and gets his point across clearly despte the level of agression, the music is fun and as they have done many times they come up with a unique sound again. Hed Pe are very good at changing the pace of songs and this record they do it masterfully.

Only issue is the track selection - I don't think the first half of the record, except track 4 'white collars' is as good as the second half, so can easily start listening to it and tune out.

favorites are: -'white collars': rocking track with strong lyrics and lively chorus
-'Dayz of war': Hed PE at their absolute best, reminiscent (although not sounding like) the Machine Mix of their classic 'Darky' with what starts life as a generic rap track that builds into a violent chorus with powerful use of an unorthadox choir arrangement - very clever song and sound.
everything from track 8 onwards I found enjoyable also.

Have given it 5 stars as a fan of the band (if that helps clarify it) as a record from them I really enjoyed.

3 out of 5 stars So, You Think You Can Make An Album ?.......2006-08-10

So the rapcore (Or as they call themselves, G-Punk) unit has come back around to release their latest album, through their new label Suburban Noize. So what does this mean to me ? I mean, Broke was a solid album, but that was almost 6 years ago and they have since released two lackluster discs (2003's "Blackout" & 2005's "Only In Amerika"), toured with no one significant and seemingly dropped off of most peoples radars. So, a new label, a new vibe and a new chance. Another disappointment ? Surprisingly, not so much. This would have to be the first fairly solid disc since "Broke". And although it doesnt hold up to "Broke" or "Hed P.E.", it is still a pinch of fresh air. The first actual track, "Novus Ordus Clitorus" is a straight forward hip-hop track with fair traces of lounge-ish piano rolls, which holds its own as far as the album goes. The next two slices, "Lock And Load" & "White Collars" are fairly catchy heavy punk (I now see a fit for the G-Punk label) tracks with a fair mix of rapping and clean/yelled vocals to accompany. The follow-up track, "Get Ready" (which is the first single from the album) takes a bit of salt to digest, but is fairly enjoyable behind the occasional annoying high pitched yell from Jahred, which just doesnt sound natural. Next we have "Sophia", the first 'ballad' off the disc, which mixes up the previously heard heavy punk sound with an odd accordian/reggae mixture rising through some of the verses. It does work, strangely enough however. "Peer Pressure" is the 45 second irritating, childish punk track (I think they may have seen that too and thus why it only lasts as long as it does) which is followed by the second 'ballad' "Beware Do We Go", which is easily the most likeable track on the album. I'd really like to see it turn into a single, as I think it has good radio potential. The three following tracks, "Daze Or War", "Sweetchops" & "Soitbe" flow through but are easily forgettable. Then comes the second to last track on the album, "Lets Ride", which switches off nicely from melodic rap rock to a fairly harsh chorus and stands well. Reminds me how (Hed) is one of the few bands who I will let get away with childish angsty lyrics at times. The album closes with a fairly forgettable funky reggae track "The Chosen One". Overall, although it doesnt really hold the direction I wish (Hed) would go in, I'll let it pass as it did leave a much better taste in my mouth than the last two. So, we'll see what the future has in store for these lads.

5 out of 5 stars WOW! HED P.E. IS BACK!!!!.......2006-08-10

I can't even describe the awesomeness of this album. I don't know what is better, Broke or Back 2 Base X. Both are great! Signing with SubNoize is the best move they have ever done. The best song on the album is "Let's Ride". the entire CD is great, so don't sleep on this CD...Its great!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Oh, How The Mighty Have Fallen.......2006-08-08

Upon listening to the first song on Hed Pe's new album, my first thought was, "What the hell? Their making elevator music now?" By the 3rd song, i was ready to fall asleep, and turned the cd off in disgust.
Hed Pe used to be on the front line of the rap metal scene. They released two good albums, their s-t debut, and "broke", which broke them above ground. But then, came their third album, "black out", and they gave into the demands of the corproate music business, and sold out. Tehy lost many fans, and since then, they have had a revolving door of musicians for every subsequent album and tour.
my main question is, what the hell happened to this once great band?

4 out of 5 stars Great return.......2006-07-28

I have loved (hed) pe since the release of their second album "broke". I was however really dissapointed with their last album "Only in Amerika".

But this album is a true return to form, not as slick as 2003's "Blackout" and more akin to the sound of their best album "broke".

hed pe are one of the most under rated bands around, mixing hip-hop with punk and metal (and a dash of regae) they have a very original sound. I suggest that everyone check this album out, especially hed fans that didn't like "Only in Amerika".

This is a hot release, experimental sampling+Hip-Hop+Reggae Dub+Punk Thrash/Metal= This album, you see (Hed)can not be categorized in one particular section, they're a melting pot of styles...Anyways this album is bangin', great breakdowns, dj scratches, rhymes, growls whatever...Pick this up, best of all their releases, their 2nd release "Broke" was good as well, but after that their albums went downhill..PEACE

4 out of 5 stars Funky, fresh, and metallic -- serve it up raw!.......2005-10-12

When (hed) released their debut LP it was right at the height of the "Nu-Metal" craze, largely propagated by Korn, but it still stands out head and shoulders above what is mostly music made by angry, self-absorbed wannabes. I guess the closest group to them are early-era Incubus, although (hed) are probably a little more aggressive. Despite the band knowing exactly how to land a heavy groove, the thing that really sets them apart is the astonishing charisma and vocal talent of their dynamic lead singer, Jahred; a truly versatile frontman mixing up speedy raps, guttural growling, and melodic singing. All the tunes have that distinctive (hed) sound (Korn-esque chord voicings, clean-ish detuned riffs) which remains across all their albums and is testament to their craft. Stand out songs include `P.O.S.', `Serpent Boy', `Darky', and `IFO'. If there's a problem with the album it's that some songs drag and occasionally sound a bit `cut & paste'. But it has a pretty good raw sound and sometimes that unfocused air lends itself for the better; you get the impression these are young boisterous chaps and must be a hoot to watch live! (Which they are.) In summary, a really tight-knit unit offering something unique, energetic and attitude-soaked. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Arrived safely and played fine.......2005-09-02

4 out of 5 stars Great!.......2004-04-27

The first full-length album from 6-piece rap-metal band (hed) p.e. is a great effort. Though what they bring to the table is nothing new, what they do, they do very well. Frontman M.C.U.D. is a notch above all the other nu-metal frontman with his energy, slick rapping, vocals and lyrics that explore planetary evolution, religion, the paranormal, sex, and racism while still being quite amusing. Drummer B.C. is an excellent drummer that doesn't rely on the DJ to make all the beats for him (not on this album, anyway), while DJ product provides some cool scratches and samples throughout. Bassist Mawk makes some funky rhythms in back and guitarist duo Wessyle and Chizad provide the heaviness this album needs and work best together here. This CD contains elements of Hip-Hop, metal, punk, reggae, and even some tribal. If you're not completely sick of rap-metal then this is some good stuff that should keep you banging your head for a while.

5 out of 5 stars Ultimately the best ever put out by (hed).......2003-04-11

When it came out it was so unique and just mind blowing. I still listen to it often. It is probably my most favorite cd of all. If I had to leave all but one behind, this would be the keeper. Although more recent releases from them have disappointed me tremendously. If only they would have stuck with whats on this cd and not break out into "new" direction. Hate to say it but its almost as if they are selling out to a more pop crowd now. I wish they'd stick with the hardcore G punk. This is a must own revolutionary to the industry cd.

4 out of 5 stars awesome band, o.k. mix c.d........2007-05-16

i absolutely love the band, but i think they could have picked a better selection. i guess they have too many good songs for one disc. maybe it should have been a double c.d, but its not at all bad. if you have all the others then theres no point in getting it, but for a first time listener you should definately get it!!

1 out of 5 stars Broke and Black Out - Combined.......2007-02-16

I would only say buy this album if you have nothing from Hed PE. Otherwise just buy the "Broke" album and the "Black Out" album, most of these songs are off those two CD's!

Happy Selecting!

5 out of 5 stars B Davis Old No. 7 Brand.......2006-07-18

What kind of review is this B Davis? Do you know anything about record labels and the industry? I guess not. Hed Pe wasnt even with this label when it was released. Hed left this label on bad terms and they were suppose to do another album on this label. Why do you think this ablum was released on the same day as their new album? The label wanted to get under their skin. A contract is a concract to record labels. They can care less about the bands. They just make sure that the bands make them money. Did I buy this album, hell no!!! Hed had nothing to do with it. Your right that this album is stupid and looks bad. I'm just saying you should know the facts before you criticize this great band. Peace Out

2 out of 5 stars Um, did I miss something?!?.......2006-07-13

I don't get it ... (hed) pe seems to have built their career on not caring what anyone thinks and saying f*** you to the establishment ... and then they release a "Best of" disc?!?! What?

The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because the tunes are great. The concept of a "Best of" disc kills it, though.

I've been a fan of (hed) pe since their first disc and have seen them a few times in clubs and I just don't get this. One other reviewer said something about this feeling like the record label milking the band ... totally agree. And if thst's the case, why would the band let the label do that?

There seems to be fewer and fewer bands out there that truly do whatever they want without regard to what anyone else thinks and (hed)pe used to be one of them.

**cough** sell out **cough**

4 out of 5 stars Where did this come from?.......2006-07-08

Good question, I have no idea... most "Greatest Hits" come from bands anyone could name... (Hed) doesn't fall in there. The album is "alright" a must have for (Hed) fans, but most of us had these songs from the other albums...nothing was new. In general it helps you not have to change cd's... if you don't know them it is a great way to get a taste without having to buy all the cd's!

1 out of 5 stars Retch!.......2001-12-20

Hed PE are by far the worst "Numetal" band around today. I put quotes around that word since it's a joke to even use the word "metal" in the same sentence with Hed PE. Some people (rap-loving white boys, Andy E., etc.) who think that great music is Papa Roach, Korn, Linp Bizkit, and those deliciously-original rapsters will definately get a kick out of Hed PE. Bravo, and Jolly good show!

5 out of 5 stars Worth the price for just one song.......2001-08-12

This CD-Single contains some album tracks from 'Broke' which I already own, but the one song I bought this CD for is 'Bad Dream.' It is a great track, you might recognize it as the hidden song from Broke that you have to break into your computer to find, but instead of wasting time with that, you should just go ahead and buy this single. I really don't understand why the song was cut from the album, it is definetly one if (hed)'s best songs to date. The tracks include: 1. Bartender (Radio Edit, you know, the "Your girl chose me player-what" version) 2. Bartender (Dirty Version) 3. Crazy Legs (Yes, the very Dirty Version) and 4. Bad Dream. If you are a die-hard (hed) fan, pick this up today.

5 out of 5 stars Cool Song.......2000-10-20

I dont have the CD, but this song rules! Check it out on the radio. It's like Papa Roach 5X better!

5 out of 5 stars (hed)planet earth, great new band.......2001-04-21

A great new band (hed)planet earth, with their new album "Broke", adds divergent worlds of rap, rock and metal into their music. Bands like (hed)planet earth emerge to show just how good these styles can be utilized. (hed)pe show they are a band apart in sound, look, and attitude. For a grade i would give them an A.
