Breathtaking..........2006-07-27
After an album like "Silence" Blindside had to come up with something new. They had established themselves as a good rock band, so they had to start defining themselves as a band. They needed to do something different. As a bridge between "Silence" and "The Great Depression" this album is perfect.
From the first line of their first song "Eye of the Storm" I knew I had to brace myself for quite a ride. Poetic honesty has always been Blindside's strong point, and their lyrics were no disappointment in this album.
All fourteen tracks were well thought out and every song has a meaning deeper than a shallow mind will ever comprehend. From "Eye of the Storm" talking about getting closer to God through trials, to "After You're Gone" talking about giving it all to God to "About a Burning Fire" comparing God's love to a passionate fire.
Musically, Blindside displays modesty and beautiful arrangements. Their drummer subtly shows up most drummers out there all through the album. Their guitarist could've been better, but he chose to compliment everyone else. The bassist does the same as the guitarist. The vocals in this album are amzing. As always, Lindskog doesn't cease to amaze; singing, screaming, shrieking, and whining all through the album at just the right times.
No doubt in my mind if you enjoy something refreshing with deep spiritual lyrics Blindside is a must-listen.
"It's not easy but I'm biting my tongue off.".......2006-04-28
Blindside's follow up to the solid Silence is just as pleasantly hard rocking, and more consistent throughout. They haven't changed their sound much, still pumping out very enjoyable Christian-themed hard punk, although they do take a few more chances on About a Burning Fire.
The record starts off with a few vintage Blindside tracks, "Eye of the Storm", "Follow You Down", and the single "All of Us". They all contain great hard guitars and enjoyable, catchy refrains. The next song, "Shekina", is a step in a different direction, featuring a beautiful female vocal, nice music, and some lyrics in the band's native Swedish.
The next couple songs are the most forgettable. "Hooray, It's L.A." features Billy Corgan on the guitar, but you wouldn't know if they didn't tell you. "Swallow" has a slightly infectious chorus, but these songs are merely solid, not really good. The next really good track on the album is "After You're Gone", which is a little too short. It's a great song with really haunting lyrics, and it really gets you caught up in its power.
The next couple tracks are a bit of a departure. "Where the Sun Never Dies" starts out fairly standard but ends with an unusual (for this band) techno interlude, and "Roads" is an out-of-nowhere, slow-moving song with a Western flair that's kind of hard to describe. The final song is the title track, which goes back to what Blindside does best, hard guitar riffs accompanied by towering, throat-shredding vocals. It's a good way to end an album for an album that does what they do about as good as anyone.
needs more lighter fluid.......2006-03-27
Blindside certainly had a hard act to follow after such an amzing release as "Silence," and naturally, any group would have a hard time maintaining that kind of energy and consistency. "Burning Fire" was actually the first Blindside album I cam across, and although it got my attention, I can see how longtime fans would be a disappointed in places. Luckily, even the band's mediocre works still have some gripping highlights, and "About a Burning Fire" is no exception.
The album starts off promisingly with "Eye of the Storm" and "Follow you down;" nice tracks, but still a preview of more memorable things to come. "All of Us" has a unique balance to it, with subtle, restrained verses; it's a powerful song without being hyperactive, and, as usual, has a special symmetry to it's lyrics that make it stand out from a lot of other rock songs. The real pinnacle, however, is "Shekina," which is different from anything I have ever heard, not just from Blindside- it's beautiful, and extremely original, with string movements, traditional Swedish herd-calling, and beautiful lyrics in both English and Swedish.
Things seem to fall flat from there, though,as the next three tracks have a filler-quality to them, but the pace gradually picks back up from there. "Across Waters Again" and "After you're gone" are agreeable songs and evocative of Silence's mellower fare, while "Where the sun never dies" gives a much needed energy-boost towards the end, fading off into a nifty electronic beat, which works better here than on any other song they've used this on. The title track wraps things up with a roaring (but controlled) throwback to "A Thought Crushed My Mind," and goes out with a bang.
"About a Burning Fire" is kind of a mixed bag of the stellar and the forgettable, with a few marked lulls, but as usual, the songs still enjoy a subtle but potent infusion of the band's spirituality: always true to their background, but never critical or exclusive. Existing fans will appreciate the highlights on this cd, but new listeners are probably better off testing the waters with a more consistent album like "Silence."
About A Burning Fire.......2006-03-15
Sound: This CD is by a band called Blindside that is from Stockholm, Sweden. This CD rules because of the unique blend of hard rock and vocals that scream passion right into your face. One of the songs, "Shekina", is partially written in their native tongue, Swedish and has a Swedish singer as well. This is just one of the many unique sounds on this album.
Lyrics: My overall impression of the lyrics on this CD were that they were skillfully written and, after a few listens, are esay to sing along to. The singer, Christian Lindskog, blends screaming with heart-felt vocals that tie into the emotion of the lyrics. Blindside's lyrics are Christian and their lyrics back that up.
Impression: My overall impression of this band was that it was one of the best bands I have ever heard. Their lyrics and music are unique and enjoyable to listen to. The best songs are: "Eye Of The Storm," "Follow You Down," "All Of Us," "Across Waters Again," "After You're Gone" and "About A Burning Fire."
Good but not their best.......2006-01-15
Great cd. Blindside is my favorite group, and this is a really good cd. I only give cd's 5 stars if they completely deserve it. Silence is my favorite Blindside cd, and I of course gave that 5 stars. The only other Blindside cd that I gave a 5 was The Great Depression and I'm not even quite sure if that deserved it. Here is my ratings for the songs:
1. Eye of the Storm- One of the best songs on the cd for sure. Great chorus. 9/10
2. Follow You Down- Not quite as good. The guitars are a little heavier in this one. It's still a good song though. 8/10
3. All of Us- AMAZING. A lot of people don't like this song cause it's "too light" for Blindside. It's a really good song though with great vocals. 9/10
4. Shekina- One of Blindside's worst slow songs. I don't blame the guest vocalist though like most people do. It's not horrible though. I just don't like it. 2/10
5. Hooray it's L.A.- The first time I heard this song I got really scared. Why is Blindside swearing? They actually aren't swearing, they're are just using the word to tell about how bad the world is. About the song, it's pretty good. 7.5/10
6. Swallow- This song is strange and a little bit annoying. Kind of punk sounding for Blindside. 7/10
7. Die Buying- GOOD. One of the better songs on the cd. I like the guitars in this song. 8/10
8. Across Waters Again- One of the heavier songs on the album. I don't like the long part at the end that just goes on for about a minute though. 8/10
9. After You're Gone- Very emotional. One of the best songs on the cd in my opinion. 8.5/10
10. Where the Sun Never Dies- Okay. 7.5/10
11. Roads- I like the way this ends right before About a Burning Fire starts. This is a slow song, but it's pretty good for one. 7.5/10
12. About a Burning Fire- ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!!! This song has a lot of screaming, but it gets very emotional at the end. The first few times I heard it I just sat their awestruck. By the way, this is the first song I've ever given more than a ten. 11/10
(I don't like giving things above a ten, and this song didn't deserve that too much above one, but it did deserve more than a 10)
Anyway, I do recommend this album. Here is the order you should get the Blindside cd's in (not the order from best to worst).
Silence
(if you like screaming) A Thought Crushed My Mind
(if you don't like screaming) About a Burning Fire
The Great Depression
(Whichever one you did not get from above)
ST (don't get this one unless you really like Blindside)

Album Description
After two acclaimed full-length indie releases and extensive touring in Europe and the U.S., Blindside has signed with Elektra for their major label debut. Silence was produced by Howard Benson (P.O.D., Sepultura, Motorhead and many more). Their style is simple but explosive, with a lot of complexity swirling around underneath. 2002.

Amazing.......2007-07-13
I usually don't write reviews but after that last guy's comment i had to. No one has the right to rag on blindside. Amazing band with good christian lyrics, shredding guitar, and incredible screaming. A worthwhile CD. Great investment.
Another bland paste.......2007-02-28
Nothing really struck me on this album as original. Their musicianship wasn't terrible, just uninspired. I've heard the occasional screaming vocals before, and done better.
While I continue to search for new music, I have encountered dozens of standard sounding rock bands that don't thrill me. Blindside is another of those bands. Nothing really inventive in each song. Verse/chorus/verse again. I have no idea how this band managed to open for Sepultura.
My one word summary: BORING.
More power to you if you don't think so.
Blindside's Best.......2007-02-04
I don't really know what it is about this band and why I really enjoy them. They really shouldn't even be something I listen too but yet I can't stop. Both their first release and "Silence" I enjoy a lot. I do however feel "Silence" is their best. The first track I had heard by the band, thanks to internet radio, was "Sleepwalking". After hearing that and just the power in that song I had to hear some more. My curiosity made me check the band out and I found that they are actually pretty awesome. The best racks on the cd would have to be "Sleepwalking", "The Endings", "Pitiful", and "She Shut Your Eyes". "Silence" is also an amazingly sad ending track. Here's the rest of my ratings...
1. Caught A Glimpse - 10/10
2. Pitiful - 10/10
3. Sleepwalking - 10/10
4. Cute Boring Love - 9/10
5. The Endings - 10/10
6. You Can Hide It - 9.5/10
7. Thought Like Flames - 9/10
8. Time Will Change Your Heart - 9.5/10
9. Painting - 9.5/10
10. Midnight - 9.5/10
11. Coming Back To Life - 9.5/10
12. She Shut Your Eyes - 10/10
13. Silence - 10/10
Overall: 96% A
I feel this is one of Blindside's best release and is actually pretty unique for the time. I can't really put my finger on a band that sounds similar. Although, that's probably due to the fact I don't usually listen to much music with that type of vocal style. That should say something about how good this band is.
best cd ever!!.......2006-04-28
this by far, is blindside's best cd and my favorite cd ever. pitiful is a beautiful, emotional, amazing song. all the rest of the songs are amazing, this is definitely a must buy cd
Silence? hardly........2006-03-25
One of the things I appreciate the most about Blindside is that as a Christian band, they have struck that rare golden balance- they don't make an obtrusive show of their faith because they don't have to. It's simply part of who they are and what they do, and this, I think, explains why they have such great integrity and still so much appeal to secular audiences as well. Lindskog's lyrics deal with a lot of the overlooked nuances of a personal relationship with God, which he expresses with a very unique turn of phrase. Whether this comes from a truly keen perception or just infamiliarity with English idiom, I have no idea, but it certainly makes for some powerful and interesting lyrics. Add this to the band's unique sound and structure of their songs, and you get the kind of distinct, memorable music that only Blindside can pull off.
Each of Blindside's albums has it's share of musical gems, but frankly, Silence has the most. The songs are mellower and clearer than those on "A Thought Crushed My Mind," but they don't lose any of their punch. Likewise, they feel much more unified than those on the next two albums-- there are no empty spaces on Silence, no places where the formula goes sour. In other words, although some are better than others, the songs that may strike you as filler on the first listen become much richer and more complex the longer the disc spins in the player. In usual Blindside fashion, each song has movements and elements in it that emerge on each listen. For such typically loud music,it employs a lot of melodic subtlety too.
The album starts off heavily and dramatically with "Caught a Glimpse," then roars into "Pitiful" and "Sleepwalking," two of the strongest tracks the group has ever done, in my opinion. "The Endings" and "Painting" are both very unique and powerful, with a sort of soaring quality that melds seamlessly back into driving guitars. They seem to break up the slower parts of the album, which closes with "Silence." "Silence" will either strike you as profoundly beautiful or absurdly boring; it has a very simple, almost empty, haunting sound which adds a lot of potency to it's deep lyrics. But don't just listen to me, listen to it- buy this disc because you need it. If you're already a fan, don't miss out on this; if you want to be, the songs on this cd will make the successes on all of the others all the more meaningful.
In general, "Silence" meets all of my qualifications for a solid album: good lyrics, a unique sound, a high volume of songs that hold up well on their own, and redemptive elements in the ones that don't. There are a lot of things to enjoy about Blindside's message and their music, and "Silence" is a showcase of all of them.

not terrible.......2007-05-24
This cd is just ok. A lot of the songs sound the same, and the guitar sounds very grungy. If you are a fan of blindside's later stuff you will hate this album. I like when blindside mixes the screaming with melodic vocals. This album has none of that, it's all screaming.
Wow, I never knew until now what I was missing!!!.......2006-03-19
This album is simply incredible. I already had the three newest Blindside albums and then I heard them play "King of the Closet" live and decided to check this album out. Oh my gosh, now I'm daily catching up on the time I missed in the past not having this album. It totally rocks!!!
Blindside's landmark album.......2005-08-11
Firstly, Amazon has the incorrect tracklisting. [Phatbat 1303] is actually the last song, Knocking on another door, sunrise, from stone to backbone, and all you need is are moved up on the tracklisting accordingly
I have been a fan of blindside for seven years now. The first time I heard Vow of Silence solidified their place in my collection forever. Having recently purchased The Great Depression, it's interesting to see their evolution as a band and a creative force.
This album, however, blows your hair back accordingly. It's sweedish hardcore at it's finest and most powerful. Expect this to be in the hardcore cannon for years to come.
This album brings it..........2005-08-01
Before I start, I'd like to give a bit a background about how I got a hold of this album.
Usually I listen to punk/emo/emocore stuff but after seeing this album on amazon being compared to numerous hardcore and screamo artists, I decided that it was time I checked this band out. I went to best buy and got this for 10 bucks... (a steal)
I seriously had no idea what I was buying, I had just seen a lot of people recommend it that had my tastes. So I threw caution to the wind.
At first listen, I began to think I had purchased a cheap alternative rock/metal cd... Something I hate.
However, I listened a couple more times and realized that this was actually hardcore/metal. This band sounds like afi meets post-hardcore alternative! Cool!
Anyway, if you like hardcore/screamo/metal, or just good rock...go pick this one up. It's impressive.
Complete Waste Of Time.......2005-07-21
Review by Tyler Wagnon:
Ehhh. These reissues bring back a lot of memories, but mostly of stuff I would like to forget. Things like middle school.
Blindside were part of the explosion of heavy Christian bands in the mid to late 90's and were one of the few to have a bit of a nu-metal tinge to their sound. Needless to say, the sound on these albums are dated and honestly, Blindside are so far past any relevance in heavy music these days that these are really a waste of time and energy.
There are a few decent tracks here and there, but most of the material is just... boring, completely lackluster, and the nu-etal edge is frankly horrible. Perhaps their major label signing had something to do with the reissues, but they are pretty much pointless.

I was really skeptical........2006-06-03
When I first got this CD, I really hated it. I hated it a lot. After listening to the other CD's so many times, I felt let down. Blindside is always playing with their music, and creating something really new, but I wasn't expecting this.
But when I found myself humming these songs from time to time, I took the CD off the shelf and listened again. I was wrong. The CD is quite genious in it's own sense. Don't compare it to old Blindside, because you probably won't like it.
These tracks are extremely emotional and heartfelt. You can feel Christian's pain when he sings, more so than on the other CD's. Now I love this CD. I love Blindside in general. I can't wait to see what comes next.
"We're All Gonna Die" and "Yemkela" are my two absolute favorites on this CD.
once it grows, it wont go away.......2006-04-29
I personally have been with Blindside since back with their self titled CD. I've loved their music every step on the way... I know alot of music, and try to spread the word to my friends and even random people sometimes, and Blindside was a hard one to get across to them. Because, if I were to play maybe, "Superman", then maybe "King of the Closet", and then perhaps "Painting" the listener would be like wtf? So of course, they have changed dramatically between albums, but none the less they still have the skill of making me hit the high's on the emotion scale at every which way you look at it!
This CD was one that i didn't really enjoy at first, but of course it was because i was hoping for something... different. But, knowing how Blindside is an ever changing face in music, i left the cd in my player for a week, that was just to try to get used to it, but when i finally decided I needed to take it out, I couldn't bring myself to! "Great Depression" may be a bit catchy at parts, but to me its a good catchy! Their guitar playing is alot different, almost amateur sounding at times, but still sounds magnificent! And the lyrics, oh my god the lyrics! wonderful! simply wonderful!
Fav track: This is a Heart Attack & Put back the Stars
based on 3 things:
1) album outcome (5) This album was pieced together nicely, all the songs fit together and keep the emotional roller coaster going and going
2) Lyrics (5) I loved the lyrics, always have, Blindsides words without music even are inspiring more than any others!
3) Musical talent (5) They have shown me ONCE AGAIN why I love these guys so much and will probably never stop being a die hard blindside fan!
So, in closing, this is just a review, and this is just my opinion. If you are into the old Blindside, and ONLY the old Blindside (IE, the solid state stuff) then you may not want to get this one. If you are more into the "About a Burning Fire" or "Silence", then this one is a little more up your alley, though way off at the same time! if you are an all around Blindside kinda guy, go for it! I'm pretty sure you will enjoy this one!
keep listening.......2006-03-27
"The Great Depression" is a very different album the first time you hear it than, say, the fiftieth. While I knew all of its brilliant moments were there, they were hard to pick out at first. The album seems to suffer from a rushed, poor production job; where songs on earlier albums transitioned smoothly from sung vocals to screaming, to subtle movements or thrashing guitars, these felt unusually disjointed and choppy, especially "heart attack" and "eyelids." My recommendation would be to either A) hear them live, or B) play with your stereo's equalizer. Either way, the term "great depression" is purely figurative here- give this album time to grow on you, because ultimately, you won't be disappointed.
Not every song on this album is a success, but a lot of them are, production aside, and you can tell that the group has done some experimenting with the diversity of their sound. You won't be hitting the skip button for long, since even though there are slow moments, the album is peppered with powerful and distinctive tracks that definitely compensate; even the ones that seem unimpressive musically still have thought-provoking messages to listen for, and this is one of the things that I love the most about Blindside.
In general, "The Great Depression" moves in a new direction, but traces of earlier sounds are still there. "Come to Rest" and "Yamkela" are raw and energetic, and remind me of the first two albums; "Ask Me Now" and "Put Back the Stars" both have a narrative feel like some of the songs off of "Silence," while "City Lights" takes this element to a different level. "We Are to Follow" and "Fell in Love with the Game" are two standout tracks that show a lot of the band's musical growth; both are classically Blindside, but with a new edge and an energy that keeps things afloat.
Probably more interesting than the music, however, is the concept behind the album. In an interview with Relevant magazine, lead singer and songwriter Christian Lindskog said the band's inspiration came when they returned to the US and Sweden after doing mission work in Africa, when they noticed a creepy parallel between the growing discontment and disenchantment with life at the very top and very bottom of the economic spectrum, and this sensitivity shines through in a lot places, if not most clearly on "We're All Going to Die." Although Blindside's attempts to branch out musically are sometimes hit-or-miss, all of their character and spiritual leadership is still very present on this album, so don't let it go overlooked-- a lot of the brilliance "The Great Depression" lies beneath the surface, and this took me a few listens to discover.
give it time.......2006-02-03
I bought this album in it's first week out back in aug, 05'.
I really liked it then and listened to it all the time for the next month. Then I kinda shelved it for a while. I saw them live in oct, 05' and picked it back up for a couple weeks and shelved it again. Then, in jan, 06' I put in the ol' player and I can't get enough. This album is a "grower" for me. But once it grew on me I loved it.
a bit lacking..........2006-01-25
Blindside is good, but this album dosent cut it. the melodies are weak, and the guitar work drags along though the album. Christian's vocals are great as always, but its nothing special. Blindside has done better defidently.

From Sweden With Love.......2005-05-24
The Boy's return to their roots with the re-release of their debut album. Originally released in Sweden than distributed here in America thanks to Solid State Records. BlindSide purchased their masters and have given a new fresh look and feel to their first two records. The band is all over the place with this album moving from alternative rock riffs to modern rock grooves and some hard rock as well. The singing shifts from melodic to screaming without warning. It's a bit jumbled and the songs move from really good to really not so good. It's not until their sophomore effort that we truly see the band come into their own. I won't say this record will blow you away but if you're a fan you'll enjoy hearing the very unique evolution of this now great band. If I had to rank their four records It would be as so.
A Thought Crushed My Mind 4.5/5
About a Burning Fire 4/5
Silence 3.5/5
Self Titled 3/5
Looking back on this record I find myself enjoying it more and more than I did the first time around and it's nice to see that the spark of potential was there from the very start and it was certainly not wasted on future records.
Great way to witness the evolution of a powerful metal band.......2005-05-18
The Good
The best part about having both of the Blindside re-issues is that you get to hear how they evolved and defined their sound. On their self-titled debut, Blindside struggle with finding their sound. You can hear that they become torn between sounding sort of like Clutch or sort of like Shadows Fall. "Invert" comes barreling at you like a 16 wheeler out of control on a steep hill (long way to go for a simile), with its monster riffs and manic vocal delivery. It's almost like Blindside is messing with you on "Born". The track takes a completely different direction with more subdued vocals and minimal distortion. The track is defined by a simple guitar lick.
It's back to releasing the fury on "Empty Box". This time theirs a soulful bass line matched by heavy breakdowns. A meaty chugga-chugga riff runs rampant on "This Shoulder". The vocals are melodic yet still edgy. "Teddy Bear" has a clean arpeggio lick and somber drum rhythm. By the time the chorus kicks in, the riffs become thunderous and driving. It's nice to be able to compare the four demo bonus tracks to their final product.
On A Thought Crushed My Mind, Blindside have settled on what they want to sound like (more like Shadows Fall). It's also apparent that they had a bigger production budget when this was originally released. "Vow of Silence" is everything but silent. It's pure assault of heavy distortion and furious vocals. It's amazing that vocalist Christian Lindskog's lungs haven't exploded. "King of the Closet" is a tale of vampires that chugs along with breakneck unruliness.
"My Mother's Only Son" briefly flirts with the soulful sounds of Blindside's debut, but reverts to the angst they so relish in. Think bass riffs take hold of "Nara". The intensity builds when the guitars and vocals kick in. Instead of including demos with this reissue, Blindside decided to include two hard to find 7" vinyl releases and two previous unreleased tracks. If you want to hear a completely different side of the group, listen to the final track "[Phatbeat 1303]".
The Bad
Nothing
The Verdict
The Blindside reissues are a great way to witness the evolution of a powerful heavy metal band. It will also hold over their fans with demos and unreleased material, until their new album is released later this year.
Generating A Pattern?...............................2005-05-14
Notice how this album like Silence is very mellow. Whereas in A Thought Crushed My Mind has all the screamo effects of About A Burning Fire. Blindside is still one of my favorite Christian rock bands around. This was very cool of them to remaster and redistribute their first two albums. The new added tracks are actually the band's demo songs from when they first started out. It sounds like they were in someone's garage when they recorded it. Still a good CD though. Keep up the good work guys. I'll be patiencently waiting for you're next new album.

Another waste.......2007-02-28
The vocals are mediocre. They've been done to death. Another scream for no reason then sing. How can you feel any emotion attached to a song when the screams aren't synched up to anything meaningful?
Aside from that, the guitar was ho-hum. Forget the vocals for a minute, they can sing pretty well for a couple of songs. Try and block out all the vocals...what do you hear? I hear mediocrity. There is nothing new to the music itself. While trying to make the guitars sound heavy, they have instead regressed into mind-numbingly simple.
Blah, I say! BLAH!
I'm a vampire.......2004-10-31
This is the first Blindside CD I heard, and thinking since this one was sooo good, I bought the "Silence" and was disappointed. Despite what other people say on reviews of their other CD's, this CD is REALLY GOOD. I think Nara is the song that he sings in Swedish, towarsds the end, the CD gets mellow, but a very good kind of mellow. When I get money, I want to own this CD again. King of the Closet was an instant fave of mine, I loved the lyrics.
A mind crushed by thought..........2004-09-28
I had been told that this, along with their self-titled, were Blindside's best albums, so I bought them. I haven't heard their new stuff yet, but after listening to this and the ST I doubt they could do much better without getting repetitive. A Thought starts out strong with 'Vow of Silence' and never stops. 'King of the Closet' is easily the best song on the album, with an awesome vocal/screaming solo intro. It seems hard to listen to the whole album all the way through, though I'm not sure why. All in all a good album, but I'd still recommend the ST over it.
if it were possible i would this album 10 stars.......2004-09-07
By far this album is in my opinion is the best album BLINSIDE has releases yet, silence, and about a burning fire are great albums but this album does not shows blindside at its finest the music it EXCELLENT. Musical arragments are like none other.Finding a decent christian rock band is hard (thank GOD 4 project 86 and DEMON HUNTER)most of them sound them same. But BLINDSIDE is uncomparable to any other christian Rock band i've have yet to hear. the closest band i would say reminds me of them musically wise would be S.O.A.D. (system of a down) and even then i would rather listen to " A thought crushed my mind"
BLINDSIDE ROCKS.......2004-06-18
I think That Blindside is an excelent band. I saw them live and imediatly bought there cd. If you like Rock/Metal/Christan then this is a band for you. I would also recomend the cd Silence. This would be a good Christmas gift for a rocker :)

These guys are for real.......2001-10-04
In my review for Cadillac Blindside's first album, I made the statement that we should be careful, because this band may only get better...and they did. This six-song EP shows not only a maturation in songwriting but also a tighter feel than "Read the Book, Seen the Movie." These songs are simply amazing. True rockers start to finish. If you have heard and like Cadillac Blindside, this EP is a must. If you haven't heard them, do so immediately. They are the next big thing.

Blindside's First.......2007-02-04
Blindside is a band that is alltogether pretty unique. I mean they aren't the type of band I normally listen too, with that vocal style, but for some reason I like them. I can't really understand what it is about them whether it's the power in the songs or the melodic style but yet I keep listening. Anyway, Blindside's first album was the second cd I had heard by them and I was suprised how different it was. It's a lot heavier in my opinion even though that doesn't make it any worse. It's actually really good. My favorite songs would have to be "Invert", "Superman", "Liberty", and "Teddy Bear".
1. Invert - 10/10
2. Born - 9.5/10
3. Empty Box - 9.5/10
4. Superman - 10/10
5. Nerve - 10/10
6. This Shoulder - 10/10
7. Replay - 9/10
8. One Mind - 9/10
9. Liberty - 10/10
10. Daughter - 8.5/10
11. Teddy Bear - 10/10
12. Never - 9/10
Overall: 95% A
This release comes really close to my favorite, "Silence", because it was actually suprisingly excellent. I still can't tell you who or what this band reminds me of or why I like them because I just do. It's good music. If I could however say it reminds me of something it would probably either be a Punky Rage Against The Machine or maybe a heavier P.O.D. Don't really take my word for it though because it's so different. Check it out.
How can people say that this is good?.......2005-12-25
Look, don't get me wrong. Blindside is my favorite band, but not all great bands start out great. I have 3 of their 5 albums. I ordered the last two (A thought crushed my mind and The Great Depression) already, but they aren't hear yet. Silence (my favorite album of all time) and About a Burning Fire are way better than this one, and I've heard the clips from A Thought Crushed My Mind and they are a lot better than this too. On purevolume.com I heard a few songs from The Great Depression and they're also really good. Right now you're probably thinking that I only like extremely polished music like Silence. Silence is my favorite album ever, but an album that is also really godd is Project 86's Drawing Black Lines. That's not very polished at all, the production is bad on it so it makes the vocals hard to hear. And that is one of the best albums I've heard. Blindside just didn't do this well on this album, that's it. All you people that like this because it's so original, listen to Extol's Burial or Undecieved and you'll hear something original. I hate to say this but the reason this sounds so original is because of how bad it is. Even after all this, there still had to be a reason why I gave it a 2 instead of a 1. There are a few okay songs on here. Invert is the biggest standout song. It is much much better than the rest of the songs on the album. Superman is the only other song that comes close to being as good as Invert. Some of the other songs like Nerve, Replay and Daughter are okay, they just aren't that good. Sure some of the songs have good sounding parts but altogether this is just a bad album. There are a few songs on here that are just horrible (Liberty and Teddybear). I have no idea how so many people like that song Teddybear. It's one of the stupidest songs I've ever heard. This is my advice to you, only get this album if you are a big fan of Blindside, and then, get the new re-release. If you are new to Blindside and someone told you to start with this and A Thought Crushed My Mind, get A Thought Crushed My Mind. Only buy this after you are a big fan of Blindside and you have all of their other albums.
BEST ALBUM FROM BLINDSIDE.......2005-12-06
This is Blindside's best album. Especially if you have the European version with the track 'Sidewinder' on it. This album is heavy, meaningful and inspirational. If you are going to start a Blindside collection GET THIS ONE FIRST
Back to Blindside's roots........2005-11-02
I've been a fan of Blindside since this album was first released. It brought sounds to my headphones that I never expected to hear from a CD purchased at a Christian Bookstore. Although it seems rough and unpolished now, it's easy to see how every release by this talented bunch has stemmed from here. To be honest, this album remains in my top three favorite albums of theirs. I realize they only have five, but many people would think I am absolutely nuts to place this unpolished, rough-sounding debut above the ridiculously successful Silence. I should set the record straight and admit that I have loved every album by these guys. I like variety, and that is why The Great Depression and About a Burning Fire are so great, as well. I felt like Silence was aimed at the radio and selling records. It was produced very well, and the vocals were very tight. But every song sounded like it had potential to be on MTV. "Blindside" features crunchy guitar riffs, calculated drumming amidst chaos, and eclectic vocal patterns. This album just seems to have the experimental nature that Blindside only seemed to rediscover with "About a Burning Fire". In fact, my favorite song by Blindside is still the insanely addictive "Daughter". I listen to it on repeat when I'm upset. Granted, this album also has a few songs that don't hold my attention every single time like "Liberty" and "Teddy Bear", though some may argue that these tracks are fantastic.
The tracks that stood out the first time I listened to it, and still merit top marks on my current playlists are:
"Invert" - A great album opener and full of energy, and quick pounding vocals.
"Superman" - The verses seem slow at first, but the chorus is difficult to not sing along to.
"Nerve" - Another heavy track with great riffs and addictive shouting qualities.
"Replay" - The opening riff will hook you, followed by a unique sound and intriguing song structure.
"Daughter" - Loud, quick, addictive.
"Never" - A great closer, and also has an intriguing structure and rhythm.
I just felt that this album has too many nay-sayers, and it needs someone to stand up for it. It was a rarity at the time, and although it may not stand up to quality albums like their most recents efforts, it shouldn't have to; fans expect better from their favorite bands with each new release, and Blindside haven't disappointed yet. But this album was a fantastic point to build from, and if it weren't for this album, I probably wouldn't appreciate their music as much as I do now.
Loved em from the start!!.......2004-10-31
I loved Blindside from the start, the second album turned me off to much screamin not enough music but the new stuff is awsome and the old school roots of this album were my roots!!!

Guess what, you're supposed to be rating the music! Instead, it appears you have rated yourself. Seriously, first off, ever heard of a self-titled album?!?! That is what this is, Blindside Blues Band is the name of the band AND the name of the album. This isn't a new concept!!! Also, OBVIOUSLY you did actually find it anyway since clearly you were on this page to post your moronic 1 star review. Anyway, under normal circumstances I would give this rockin' blues style album a 3 star rating. It is good but not great. So, the 5 star here counteracts the 1 star and averages out to 3 stars anyway.
