Tired of dark, heavy indie rock about brakeups and breakdowns? "Raised by Wolves" is the perfect alternative for you. This 5 song EP makes with the happy without ever losing a beat. The title track sets the tone with it's fast drum beat and jangly guitar. Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, Ramesh Srivasta knows how to write hooks and melodies guaranteed to keep you humming for days, and his lyrics, though often about brakeups and breakdowns are uplifting and confident. While they have garnered many comparisons to '80's acts like the Smiths (most probably because the second track, The Start of Something, sounds like it could easily be a Smith's B-side) more recent releases have shown Voxtrot are exploring and creating their own sound. This is an excellent introduction to a band that will soon be getting national attention. Finally, if you get a chance to see them live, don't miss it. I was fortunate enough to catch them at a small club, a day after they opened for Elefant in San Francisco. They were brilliant and did an incredible cover of "Love Vigilantes" by New Order.

i saw this band open for elefant. they were actually better than elefant. their energy is so apparent on stage not to mention in their songs. all the songs are amazing and different and upbeat with wondrous and witty lyrics. they are reminiscent of the smiths, belle & sebastian and new order, amongst other great bands. i haven't been taken with a band like this in 5 years. they are definitely worth checking out.

This band is band of the new century for me! Great, catchy, fun, HAPPY; if you like good feeling smiths, cure etc you'll probably like these guys. I'm into new 80s stuff like the killers, bravery, hot hot heat, editors, etc... but I really, absolutely, positively LOVE these guys's style!!!!!! It's a change from the dark dancy, but you still wanna get down! If they combined their last two cds, it would have made for a great album!!!! Have a listen; i promise, you wont be sad.

Makes Me Smile........2006-03-19

I absolutely love this stuff. The Start of Something and Raised by Wolves are so uplifting that it even makes me want get up and dance, and not a whole lot of music can do that. It's just so catchy. Also there are some slower songs like Long Haul and Wrecking Force that are interesting. I think this band has the potential to become the next big thing, but still, that might take away some of their charm if they were to be superstars, I think they are better off being themselves.

ok, so i'm not actually a kid, i just had to click it because i don't have an account and whatnot. yes.
so, this band is phenomenal. i got the first song through the indiefeed alternative/modern rock channel and was hooked instantly. i bought the song 'raised by wolves' on itunes and still couldn't believe they were so incredible. they are! like everyone else, i wish they would come out with a full lenght, but no. however, there is another ep coming out on april 4th!!! get ready! if you like good music, get this! seriously!!!!!!

Cult Curio.......2006-09-18

Being that these are re-recorded versions and not the classic cuts that most are familiar with, this collection is pretty useless to the new fan... As others have suggested, it seems more geared to the obsessive BOC fanatic (and really, that accounts for something like 95% of their fanbase, including yours truly) who simply must have it all.

For collectability value, this disc is a notch-above compilations that rehash songs that you already have... as far as I know, this is the only place to hear these updated versions, with makes for a zero-overlap with your prexisting collection. Some clarification is necessary... this isn't updating in the radical overhaul IMAGINOS "Astronomy" sense... these are mostly faithful to the originals with variations in the instrumentation... an extended solo here or there, slightly different arrangements in the keyboards, newly sung vocals. In a sense, it can almost be seen as a "live in studio" type deal, minus the crowds and between-song banter.

BOC fanatics will get a kick out of hearing different variations of their favorite tunes. The tracklisting has all the major hits, some live favorites ("Me 262") and some minor surprises as well "(Harvester of Eyes" makes a nice unexpected appereance). In that regard, this set is accurated titled... you get both the classics, and the cult in one package.

Worth it for die-hards... newbies should proceed directly to the best BOC compilation available, WORKSHOP OF THE TELESCOPES or, if you're feeling particularly adventurous, the studio albums themselves. Hopefully you'll get there eventually.

I was introduced to BOC through this album, then I heard a few other songs. For a 'best of' album, there should be more classics like R U Ready 2 Rock, but this album does have some good Cult tunes. Of course, it has Don't Fear the Reaper, and it has good ones like Godzilla, Harvester of Eyes, Astronomy, This Aint the Summer of Love, Cities On Flame WIth Rock n' Roll, and Burnin' for You, but it's missing some good tracks. It's an okay album to introduce people to, I mean, it has some of their best songs, but there are lame ones like Od'd on Life Itself. Bottom line, it's not a bad album, it's got the basic Cult classics, as the name implies, but it misses the point.

PROS:

Has TV versions of Don't Fear the Reaper and Godzilla
Vocals and instruments sound somewhat better

CONS:

Misses some of the good ones by BOC
Has some pretty lame ones for a Best Of album

"Cult Classic" Misses The Point.......2004-10-02

Okay, I realize that for the so called "Purist Oysterheads" or what I call "Music Snobs", (they exist, on their own plane,or in their own self important/holier than thou heads, for every band in every genre of music, but seem to proliferate in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal),I am an illegitimate BOC fan, having only been exposed to BOC with "Agents of Fortune". But, having listened to BOC's music all through my teens, and feeling nostalgically sentimental every time I hear a BOC song, (since BOC albums were the soundtracks to my tender years and every important moment of my young life including the penultimate "loss of virginity"),I am entitled to have an opinion on this album. I was horribly unsatisfied with it. The originals did not need to be reworked, remade, replayed, or resung, especially by different bandmembers! These songs were works of art in their original form. To say that better technology made these songs better music is almost as ridiculous as saying "if Andy Warhol had screen printed a version of Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" on a modern chemically treated canvas, with better adhering acrylic paints, in primary colors, it would be a finer masterpiece". I would rather listen to these songs on the vinyl they were released on. I was especially dissatisfied with the lack of songs from "Fire of Unknown Origin", a pivotal album in their career transition from a rock band to an arena rock band. Although almost all of the nine songs on "Fire of Unknown Origin" were exceptional, only one song appeared on "Cult Classic", "Burning for You". What about the title track "Fire of Unknown Origin", "VETERAN OF THE PSYCHIC WARS" (HELLO!), "JOAN CRAWFORD" (HELLO AGAIN!), "Vengeance (The Pact)", and "Sole Survivor"? What about the ultimate party song, "R.U. Ready to Rock?" from "Some Enchanted Evening"? "Cult Classic" is HARDLY the album to steer Newbie BOC fans to, as it misses so much of the quintessential core of what BOC was. Sure it had some key hit songs "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", "Godzilla", and "Burning For You", but it missed the point that so many of the truly great BOC songs were not hits and were not perfectly engineered, perfectly played, or perfectly sung. The songs on "Cult Classic" are like "too perfect to be distinctive and beautiful" cyborg clones of the originals.

Why?.......2004-08-20

I'm afraid I can't agree with all the positive reviews of this album. I don't think it was necessary for Blue Oyster Cult to re-do their old songs. What was wrong with the previous versions of these? In my opinion, none of the versions here top either their original studio versions or any of the earlier live versions. For someone who has never heard any of B.O.C.'s albums, I guess that this would not be a bad introduction, though are many other albums I would start people out on. For songs like "Don't Fear The Reaper", "E.T.I.", "This Aint", "O.D.'D", etc., stick with the original studio versions, while with songs like "Burning For You", "M.E. 262", "Buck's Boogie" and "Harvester Of Eyes", listen to the live versions. Just don't listen to this!

Another thing that bothers me, and it doesn't bother me THAT BAD, is that they get some of the writing credits wrong, not giving Al Bouchard credit for writing "This Aint The Summer Of Love", not giving Joe Bouchard credit for helping write "O.D.'D" and inserting Donald Roeser's name for both songs. ( I don't know, maybe the original writing credits were incorrect!) Then again, you'll only notice these indiscrepencies if you've studied the writing credits as closely as I have!

One thing I DO like is the T.V. mixes of "Don't Fear" and "Godzilla" that come at the end of the CD. Both of these just have the music and backing vocals, so YOU can finally be the singer of some of your favorite B.O.C. songs!

The overall performances aren't that bad, but I really recommend you go elsewhere for most of these songs!

Pretty Good for a compilation...........2004-04-23

Contains many of the essential BOC favorites, RE-RECORDED and mildly reworked. Conspicuously absent are master pieces like "The Last Days of May," "Before the Kiss," "Golden Age," "The Vigil, "Perfect Water," "I love the Night," and so on.

Also, not to quibble or anything, but "Harvest Moon" is absent. Written 3-4 years prior to the release of "Classics" one would think it would be in the line up.

Also, the album art is courtesy of Melne Murphey (formerly Melne Gregmar).

Good stuff even if it is the umpteen gazillionth "Best of" release.

FYI.......2006-07-02

this album took several listens for me to really get in to it, but now it is one of my favorites. the music is chaotic and very off time. John Spencer, has has since left scarlet and rejoined spifire, brings a brutal in your face feel that is lacking on the latest release from this band.

the lyrics: when i first listened to it, i thought they were a bit elementary and unintelligent. but again, upon further listening, a cutting sarcasm becomes painfully apparent. furthermore, i found out that this album was pretty much a tongue in cheek offering of typical teenage angst, and the band has pretty much said that if you are serious about this moron, you're a moron. this album was made to make fun of such individuals.

Dillinger Fo... I mean Escape Plan?.......2005-07-07

Come on this hardly sounds like DEP! I mean I read a bunch of reviews (positive and negative) that say they sound like DEP and I hardly get that vibe at all. Dillinger is a bunch of dude jacking off thier guitars, ugh. Anyways, this is some freshness, lotsa time changes (DILLINGER DID NOT INVENT TIME CHANGES YOU LOSERS) scratchy paranoid lyrics sung in a scratchy paranoid manner about this world that is every moment getting closer to the end. OH man I love Untitled that song is crazy. Anyways the lyrics are pissed and there are a lot of sing alongable parts such as:

NO ONES GETTING OUT ALIVE
DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS
GO FIGHT KILL!

Okay on paper it sounds kinda silly but when you hear it on rekid, they are pretty sweet. How come Ferret doesn't put anything out on vinyl, come on guys I thought you were hardcore!

OK album... just ok........2005-03-30

The main thing I don't like about this album is the really SLOW paced singing. The music is decent throughout the album and great at parts. It sounds like a cross between Dillenger and NIN or some kind of Electrometal sound. Really BRUTAL. I would stick to Dillenger, and some Poison The Well for the light-hearted.

Great technicality, weak lyrics..........2005-01-23

Musically, this album is excellent. The pace changes, the time signatures, everything about this album creates a great technical hardcore/metalcore cd. However my only complaint is that the lyrics are very, very weak. The rhyming sounds forced and the topics cover typical areas that Marilyn Manson would write about.
So if you are a fan of technical hardcore and metalcore and can get past decent vocals and mediocre lyrics, you will definitely appreciate Cult Classic.

This CD plays like a cornered animal. A cornered animal with serious issues.

If you've ever felt self-destructive, If you've ever seen the inside of a holding cell or a psyche ward, If you are more than just a little anti-social,

Then you will appreciate this CD.

1. OD (3/5) - Decent opening track, a little dramatic.

2. Get your Gun (5/5) - Rapid and toothsome, should have been the opening track in my opinion.

3. The Joy Decoys are Coming (5/5)- Great track, starts fast then immediately drops the tempo and the bass kicks hard. Lyrics are about corruption, and they are artistic and venomous.

4. Suicide Soundtrack (5/5) - GO FIGHT KILL GO FIGHT KILL GO FIGHT KILL GO FIGHT KILL

5. Life Support (2/5) - IMO the weakest track on the album. The chorus is still really cool though.

6. Dead America (4/5) - ominous and dangerous, slower than the tracks so far.

7. Sinning by your Side (6/5) - Awesome song, captures the fervor and insanity of dysfunctional romance.

8. Nymphoteens (6/5) - Starts out with just a beat and distorted vocals, builds quickly and explodes, chorus is harmonious but still very very dark.

9. Human Pollen (4/5) - slow and dreary like an amphetamine hangover but with a nice distorted beat in the background

10. Lie.Fake.Money-Make. (4/5) - tempo switches up a little too much for me, still one of the best tracks on the album.

11. Florescent Sunshine (5/5) - Unbelievable. Lyrics are about society and how your job and bank account defines who you are. Intense and desperate and cynical.

12. No one's getting out alive (3/5) - Fast and intense but not particularly memorable.

13. The Mannequin Campaign (6/5) -This is the mannequin campaign/this is the shock value refrain/for the drug addicts (yeah)/and the stoned fanatics (yeah, drugs. drugs drugs drugs drugs....) This track will make your blood move.

14. My Black Hole Girl (3/5) - Slow track. Lyrics about being decieved by a lover and turning numb.

15. Untitled (6/5) - Another instant classic. Song is about paranoid violent state of mind in America today. Lyrics - The antichrist is coming/to kill your young/load your firearms/because security/is a warm, warm gun/

16. You're my Fix (5/5) - Awesome slow track, great way to end the album. Lyrics are about stalking a girl, referred to as Ms. Doe.

If you like angry music, buy this. You will not be disappointed.

A sonic treat for your ears and imagination.......2007-03-22

If you're an electronic music aficionado, and a sci-fi movie buff, then you'll really enjoy this album. Though not as technically composed as a recording from Isao Tomita or as melodic as an album by Synergy, this album is in a class by itself: it's a soundtrack without a movie! Just put on a good set of headphones, read the track titles, and then close your eyes; you can see the action in your mind's eye.

The only "complaint" I have with the recording is that some of the tracks have "space chatter" in them...which is fine except you have to turn the volume WAAAAY up to hear it; if you're not fast enough to turn it back down before the music continues, you'll either have an earache for a few days of a couple of blown woofers.

As an aside, I first heard of Amin Bhatia when I purchased a keyboard synthesizer decades ago and it had, as a demo file, Bhatia's rendition of "Flight of the Bumble Bee" by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov; it was great!

Movie for your ears.......2006-04-11

Wow! This is a space adventure for your ears. Just a little imagination goes a long way here. Not a CD for easy listening or friends for dinner, this is a sit down and go for a ride listening adventure. Very well done electronic symphony of a space journey.

Is this hip hop?.......2006-06-21

This album is craptasic. He just talks in a low tone in most of the songs--no rhythm to it at all. I like 1 or 2 of the tracks, but the rest is horrid, and I mean HORRID stuff. No wonder he never talks with the KMK's--he needs to stay mute because he sucks so bad! I got the CD used for $7 and I feel totally ripped off.

i'm a big fan of kmk and all the other subnoize artists, but i really don't know what to say about this album. i bought it right when it came out and only listened to it once. maybe i just dont understand pak, but he should just stick to dancing on stage and waving those signs with crazy s**t on them. this is probably the only subnoize album that i don't like. but i kept it anyway just cause he is associated with kmk.

I am a huge KMK fan and I am usually willing to buy most non-KMK Subnoize releases, as they generally provide at least a few good tracks to bump. For every masterpiece like Kingspade, there are just as many mediocre releases like Daddy X's Organic Soul and Subnoize Souljas. However, even these albums have a few good tracks that make me not regret dropping the cash on them.

This album, on the other hand, is the most god awful piece of trash that I have ever let touch my CD player. Why would anyone in their right mind let this be released??? I would rather stand over my kitchen sink and listen to the garbage disposal for an hour, than listen to Pakelika try to rap. And they market this as "real hip hop"??? Pakelika has no flow, nothing to say, and the production on this album is pathetic.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is a reason that Pakelika doesn't rap on any KMK albums -- he sucks, flat out. I sold this CD to Record Exchange the weekend after I got it and probably would have smashed it in the parking lot if they didn't give me a whopping 50 cents for it. I'll always be down with the krown, but c'mon Subnoize -- stop releasing bulls### like this!!
