Excellent transaction. Would not hesitate to buy again from this seller. Product was delivered promptly and as described.

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars my opinion.......2007-08-01

This recording was reccomended somewhere as being even better than the newer version with Bryn Terfel and Renee Fleming - it really is tops, I think. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau is as lyrical as ever. And the other soloists are also breathtaking.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but not my first choice.......2007-04-07

I believe this was the first recording of Elijah in English that used an "international" conductor and some international singers. Fruhbeck gives a good, dramatic sweep to the piece, with some wonderful dramatic moments. This is an old fashioned performance, with only a solo quartet, and if there is a semi-chorus, I can't tell the difference. This means that the soprano is the Widow, and an Angel, the mezzo the Angel and Queen Jezabel, etc. You really should have a libretto, but you don't get one at this price.
Fischer-Dieskau roughens up his voice for the role, and therein lies a problem. The voice spreads and his diction suffers because of it; that and his unidiomatic pronounciation, with far too many rolled "r"s. He does the drama well, but what works well in lieder works here less well on the large scale. Odd, given his success as on opera singer (check out his Iago), that here he frequently comes off blustery.
Dame Gwyneth Jones belies her reputation and gives a contolled, dramatic performance, using her "edge" to advantage in "Hear Ye, Israel". Gedda's diction is amazing, with exactly the right color for this literature, and projecting a little more blood than an English tenor.
Dame Janet Baker is my star in this performance. Dramatic, heart-rending when need be, and in wonderful voice. She'll chill your blood when she tells the people of Baal to "slaughter him, do what he hath done!".
And as for the people of Baal, the Philharmonia Chorus is wonderful. Incisive and dramatic, with beautiful tone. I could do without the trick of the boy choir for "Lift Thine Eyes", and I miss the small ensembles, but all in all a fine performance, and good recording, circa 1968.
First choice in English, Daniels/Terfel: better Elijah in Terfel, better recording, more authentic orchestra, small vocal ensembles (as per the score) but inferior women (including Fleming: beautiful tone, but where's her head?). In German, it's Sawallisch/Adam all the way.
But if you're singing Elijah, and have a score, this is a good choice.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST recording of the BEST oratorio ever..........2006-08-15

Okay, I'm gonna admit I'm biased- I first sung in the chorus of Elijah when I was 14 and it made a BIG impression on me!
This recording is in every way wonderful. Starting with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. He IS Elijah to me. His singing is perfection. He has amazing phrasing and his diction makes it possible to understand the lovely, inspired libretto to this heavenly music. There are so many pieces that are ephemeral, but a couple of my favorites are: #14, Lord God of Abraham and #37, For the Mountains shall Depart. Dieskau does a great job of what I think of as compassionate, heartfelt singing. His interpretation sounds like the voice of God himself. It has a quality of kindness and yet he sounds just as convincing reprimanding the people of Baal. He is the true highlight of this recording.

That said, the rest of the cast is wonderful as well. Gwyneth Jones has a lovely, silvery voice that has a clarion bell-like tone that rings over the large orchestra with ease. She has occasional "misfire" but is a consistent performer. Dame Janet Baker and Nicolai Gedda both perform at a consistently lovely level. The orchestra and chorus are both wonderful. #15, Cast thy Burden upon the Lord, #32 He that Shall Endure to the End, and #38 Then Did Elijah are all highlights.

All said, for me the main reason to get this recording is Dieskau's Elijah- after all, he's the main character. But don't forget the lovely music. This story is exciting and passionate and sacred all at the same time. For me, it's the best oratorio that has a moving story and great music too.

4 out of 5 stars Too bad there are so few recordings of Elijah.......2006-07-03

This is a good recording of an oratorio that deserves more attention. The chorus and soloists are very good--I just wish Fischer-Diskau wouldn't slide around so much in singing the title part!

5 out of 5 stars The greatest songs ever?.......2007-07-26

I heard 'clear or cloudy', from this recording, on the radio recently and had to purchase it. It is strange but it is the sort of song that makes life prior to listening to it different from life after. I find it sad that so many people haven't heard it. There are also many other wonderful works in this collection. Given you get twelve well recorded CDs with top quality performances, this has to be one of the bargains of the age.

Please buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

Album Description

UK pressing. This 13-track album features a collection of Top 10 UK hits including 'Negotiate With Love', the defiant, breezily self-confident 'So Good' and smash hit 'Some Girls'. Come and Get It is brimming with an exciting and eclectic selection of songs. Working closely with a few of the UK's hottest talents including Richard X, Rob Davis, former S Club collaborators Jewels & Stone, and, in something of an Alisha's Attic reunion, both Karen and Shelley Poole, Rachel has made an album she's really proud of. From the frenetic 'Crazy Boys' to the melodic tour de force of 'Nothing Good About This Goodbye' to the electro laced ballad 'I'll Be There' and the sultry, dirty bassline of 'Je M'Appelle' and her forthcoming single, 'I Said Never Again', a sex-with-your-ex anthem whose pummelling glam beats conjure an image of Suzi Quatro duetting with Adam & The Ants. Come And Get It is an album for anyone who appreciates pop music at its best. Universal. 2005.

5 out of 5 stars as close to a perfect album there is..........2007-07-11

it might sound like hyperbole, but rachel steven's fantastic album, 'come and get it' is a terrific, terrific pop album. how this album sank in the UK is perplexing at best. how she's not a worldwide mega-superstar is incomprehensible. she's got everything going for her: the looks (yes, she's gorgeous. i'm a red-blooded heterosexual male. i can't help it), the charisma, the voice, and most importantly, the songs.

and what great songs they are. in fact, it's hard not to think of this as a greatest hits album. it's one smash it after another. it was a coup by stevens' camp (whether is was her label, reps, or herself) to get richard x to helm this album. he brings a tremendous amount of sophistication to stevens' songs. and maybe more importantly, he's got enough street cred to build a city around. i think just about any artist would be thrilled to work with him. so stevens is fortunate. richard x smartly avoids sugar pop and aims for sophisticated, catchy, and credible pop songs. thankfully, it's a massive success. no, rachel stevens isn't goldfrapp, but she's pretty close. and that's pretty remarkable considering she was a member of s club 7 and its garden variety pop fluff. the songs are expertly composed and arranged. the melodies immediately memorable. the production slick without crumbling the weight of its own pretensions.

but 'come and get it' shouldn't be misconstrued as richard x pulling rachel stevens' strings and that she's simply a pop puppet. as previously mentioned, she's got charisma and spunk in spades. 'some girls,' 'i said never again (but here we are),' 'negotiate with love,' and 'nothing good about this goodbye' are perfect showcases for stevens and her voice. they're all absolute corkers. (and it's pretty ballsy to sample the cure as she does on 'all about me).

the album is also delightfully devoid of syrupy and overblown ballads. as close as you'd come to a ballad is 'i'll be there,' which isn't really a ballad at all (but it does have the best chorus on the entire album, imho). it's all dance all the time.

if you're a fan of goldfrapp (this is every bit as good as 'supernature') or kylie, 'come and get it' will blow you away. i know that's lofty praise, but it's that good. don't let her pedigree get in the way. take this album for what it is: a perfect pop album.

in a perfect world we'd have a lot more rachel stevens and a lot fewer britneys, lindsays, and christinas. we'd all be better off for it.

i'll say it again: how is she NOT a mega-superstar?

5 out of 5 stars My Daughter Loved It!.......2007-01-18

I Purchased this CD for my daughter for Christmas. She must of wanted this bad, as it was high up on her priority list.

5 out of 5 stars Completely Underrated, Completely Awesome.......2007-01-01

I heard a few of these songs online and bought the CD out of curiosity. It's not the sort of pop music on which I would normally spend my money. It was a worthwhile investment. The CD is a lot of fun, with great electro-pop music. "Some Girls" and "I said never" and "Crazy Boys" are great songs with catchy, danceable and sexy arrangements. "Secret Garden" was a surprise with its midtempo beat and sensua imagery. "Dumb Dumb" sounded like it would be a dumb song, but it's great, with a chorus that sticks in memory. "Nothing good about this goodbye" is a lovely little song, heartfelt and simple. It also has an irresistible chorus, and evokes the kind of emotion you might have felt as a teen when your heart was broken for the first time, or you were separated from your significant other for the first time. In my opinion there is one track that doesn't fit, and that is "I will be there." It's generic, with nothing special in song, lyric or arrangement, although it does start nicely and builds up into a pleasantly interesting wall of sound. Even "Je m'appelle" with its almost generic R&B beats packs a surprise. I highly recommend this CD. If you're looking for something that is fun and light thematically, but still sonically interesting, this is a great option. There are no sappy ballads here! The deluxe version of the CD has a DVD with some clips, and those are fun to watch. Rachel can be a real femme fatale. Great effort! Here's hoping for more!

3 out of 5 stars Pop & Dance Music At Its Best .......2006-12-12

For people who have heard Jo O'Meara's album Relentless, Rachel CD's is almost the complete opposite. Most of the songs on Jo's CD are slow, deep, and emotional. Rachel's CD is more about having a good time, partying and the music on her CD is definitely more fast-paced than Jo's album. The music on Rachel's CD is generally fast, and has a lot of pop and techno grooves on it. This is definitely an album for anyone who appreciates pop/dance/club music at its best. In my opinion, the best songs on this CD are: Funny How, Nothing Good About This Goodbye, Some Girls.

5 out of 5 stars A feast for true pop fans everywhere!.......2006-06-23

Rachel Steven's sophmore release "Come And Get It" is a masterful collection of pure pop craft and personality. Like Kylie's "Light Years," Madonna's "True Blue," or Britney's "Britney" Rachel distills her voice onto the brilliant productions and comes up with a classic everytime. Every track works, but my favorites are So Good, Dumb Dumb, Je M'appelle, and the stunningly beautiful Nothing Good About This Goodbye. The phrasing on these songs couldn't have been easy to deliver, but her vocals shine. I don't know why she was ignored, but I hope she gets the recoginition she deserves and another shot at stardom. Until then, I'll keep this one close to my stereo. Thanks Rachel!

5 out of 5 stars Forgive the cheesy title, but a star is re-born once again........2007-07-09

In 1954, Judy Garland gave the most acclaimed performance of her career as a musical movie star in George Cukor's musical remake of the 1937 straight-up drama A Star Is Born. After its premiere, the film was heavily edited and would not be seen in its near complete form again for nearly thirty years. Judy was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance, but lost to Grace Kelly, to the chagrin of many Garland fans to this day, as well as many celebrities of the day. (Groucho Mark famously called it the biggest robbery since Brinks.)

In all that mess, the soundtrack was released by Columbia on vinyl record in mono and has since never been out of print and was a best-seller for years. In 1988, Columbia took the musical numbers and the overture directly from the film's stereo soundtrack (As, sadly, stereo soundtrack masters no longer existed.) and released those onto CD. The sound quality was somewhat horrendous, but digital audio was still in its infancy and not much else could be done.

In 2004, for the film's 50th anniversary, Columbia, Legacy, and Sony Music Soundtrax released this incredible new expanded remastered CD reissue of the film's soundtrack. This is the most complete soundtrack you can find and it's definitely worth upgrading from your 1988 CD release.

This CD contains not only all of the songs, including an extended intro to The Man That Got Away which was shortened in the film as well as the complete intro to Gotta Have Me Go With You, but also contains a near complete release of the instrumental score, which includes whole tracks and parts of tracks that were not used in the film, as well as an alternate vocal take of It's A New World, the deleted When My Sugar Walks Down The Street segment from Born In A Trunk, and a static-y complete version of The Trinidad Coconut Oil Shampoo Commercial, which was taken from a worn acetate playback disc - the only complete recording in existence.

The soundtrack is taken from a mixing and matching of several elements, such as acetate playback discs, the original Columbia mono soundtrack album masters, and the film's 4-track stereo soundtrack, among others. This means that the soundtrack goes back and forth from being stereo and mono. However, this does not detract from my listening experience any, and frankly, I can't tell much of a difference. One interesting note is that Gotta Have Me Go With You uses both the film's soundtrack and the mono soundtrack album masters to create a faithful listening experience, from the mono instrumental intro to the song itself, which except for a short portion, is taken from the film's 4-channel soundtrack. (The mono portion of the vocal part was used to edit out some plot-related screams that were present in the 1988 release. This method of retaining the aural integrity of Gotta Have Me Go With You was also used when it was included on the Rhino Records compilation Judy Garland In Hollywood: Her Greatest Movie Hits.)

Despite the fact that this soundtrack is taken from several different surviving elements and sadly not from a single set of elements, as Warner Bros. didn't have the foresight to save everything like MGM and Disney did, this is an excellent presentation of this landmark soundtrack. The sound quality for the most part is excellent, and the liner notes are also wonderful. Garland historian John Fricke writes a small essay on the production of the film and an annotated guide to the soundtrack, which gives a synopsis of the plot and also indicates where the tracks from the CD appear in the film. Producer Didier C. Deutsch also writes a small essay on the creation of this CD release, giving notes on the elements and some specific tracks.

Amazon is offering this soundtrack at an excellent price, and I have to say, it's a bargain for a soundtrack of this caliber and sound quality. Any Garland fan or movie soundtrack fan should have this in their collection.

5 out of 5 stars A Star Is Born Soundtrack Review.......2007-01-10

A really excellent soundtrack to go with an excellent movie. This is some of Judy Garland's best material in both music and acting. The power of her voice on "The Man That Got Away" is amazing. "Born In A Trunk", "It's A New World", "Someone At Last" and "Lose That Long Face" are other recommended tracks. This is a MUST HAVE for all you Judy Garland fans.

5 out of 5 stars Judy at her peak!.......2006-05-30

Judy Garland's finest film work was "A Star Is Born." Because she and her husband, Sid Luft, were also the producers, it was the most intensely involving production she had ever undertaken. The laser focus of her brilliant talent was never before realized on film to this degree. Also, she had gained tremendous personal confidence due to the unprecedented audience response to the concerts she had done between her MGM films and ASIB. The love with which the live audience embraced her, brought new heights to her acting as well.
The production values of the film were top of the line and it shows on this fine CD. It's a chance to experience Judy's talent on a more intimate basis without the visuals.
A must-have for every serious Garland collector.

5 out of 5 stars a "Star" shines like never before..........2005-04-27

This reissued remaster of A STAR IS BORN is a must-own for fans of the movie, and in particular those who were somewhat dissatified by the previous CD edition (CK 44389). That edition was great for offering us most of the main numbers in stereo/mono mix but was marred by poor analogue distortion and other remastering problems (though this was the best that could have been done at the time). This new edition (CK 65965) presents the entire score, including background and incidental sections as well as the cut material, in a sparkling new package.

The big bonus for getting this latest edition is for Garland's complete rendition of "The Trinidad Coconut Oil Shampoo Commercial" (without the dialogue of James Mason). This has been taken from a rare acetate master, so while the sound quality is not the best, having the number complete without interrupting dialogue is a more than ample compensation. You will notice too that "Lose That Long Face" has been newly mastered from a better stereo source (cutting out the thunder-crashes that were heard on the first CD master, and Garland's singing no longer has those violent analogue fluctuations during the introduction). "Gotta Have Me Go with You" is now presented without the screams and noises, in a new master from the mono soundtrack.

"When My Baby Walks Down the Street", a section cut from the "Born in a Trunk" sequence, has been added as a bonus track. This sparkling-new STAR IS BORN reissue is a great tribute to what is most definitely Judy Garland's greatest hour on film.

5 out of 5 stars Musical perfection of the highest magnitude!!!.......2005-02-25

Was there ever a more perfect voice than the one possessed by Judy Garland? Powerful yet gentle. Dynamic yet restrained. Bone-chilling yet soothing. She had the pipes!

And her instrument was showcased at its best in the music from her triumphant "A Star is Born".

This expanded version is a bona-fide treasure with the highlight being Garland's earth-shattering "The Man That Got Away," presented with vocals and several instrumental versions. Along with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and "The Trolley Song", "The Man That Got Away" is an essential for Garland fans, as well as those that know a good song when they hear it.

The fifteen-minute medley that was featured in the film as the "introduction" of "Vicki" to the public is another outstanding track, featuring "Born in a Trunk", "Suwanee," and "My Melancholy Baby," all exquisitely performed by the legendary talent.

Clocking in at just under eighty minutes, the soundtrack to the classic film is, indeed, in a class by itself, and deserving of repeated listening, maintaining its "freshness" after more than five decades.

5 out of 5 stars Lerner & Loewe Songbook.......2006-02-24

If you like Percy Faith's music, you'll like this one. He quit recording and died much too young. But while he lived, he recorded some great music.

5 out of 5 stars Wouldn't it be lovely?.......2005-09-26

This CD represents some of the best of Broadway done in a great pops style. There are five orchestral suites, one each for the following: 'Camelot', 'My Fair Lady', 'Gigi', 'Paint Your Wagon', and 'Bridgadoon'. They are all arranged for orchestra by Robert Russell Bennett, save that for 'Paint Your Wagon', which was arranged by Cincinnati Pops Orchestra director Erich Kunzel.

The works of Lerner and Loewe were a mainstay of Broadway for decades in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, but it was during the late 50s and early 60s that their true glory days took hold. The presidential term of John F. Kennedy gained the nickname 'Camelot' in part because of the influence of the Lerner and Loewe production going on at the start. The songs contained in these suites are instantly recognisable by many, as the Lerner and Loewe songs have become so well known that many know the songs better than the musicals or the composers from which they come. 'I Could Have Danced All Night' and 'Wouldn't It Be Lovely' come from 'My Fair Lady', 'Thank Heaven for Little Girls' from 'Gigi' - these are but the most of famous of the familiar tunes.

There are a lot of pieces here that the listener will appreciate, both in remembering old pieces or in learning new nuances to the tunes.

This particular disc by Telarc has a feature called 'Spatializer', which gives a three-dimensional quality to the sterophonic sound, enhancing regular players and working well with surround-sound systems, too. The Cincinnati Pops are expert at this kind of music, having produced dozens of CDs of popular music and modern composers of musicals, film music, and pops-oriented major compositions.

This is a fun disc to have.

5 out of 5 stars A Successful Sequel.......2005-08-03

This CD is a follow-up to the Rodgers & Hammerstein Songbook for Orchestra (1991) from the same team. It is a thoroughly successful sequel: I believe anyone who enjoyed the R&H will enjoy this one as well. If I am very slightly less enthusiastic about this one than the R&H, it's not because of any shortcoming of Kunzel, the Cincinnati Pops, or Telarc, all of whom are at the top of their form. Rather it's because Frederick Loewe, for all his undoubted expertise, is not quite in the same class as a composer with Richard Rodgers. But that's asking a lot, since Rodgers was the American musical theater's leading light. Lerner & Loewe's musicals were second only to R&H's during the golden age of the American musical, and their My Fair Lady is by any standard one of the best musicals ever staged. If Loewe did not create as many unforgettable numbers as Rodgers, he nevertheless wrote many delightful songs and much enjoyable music. This CD features five orchestral suites, ranging in length from 9 to 18 minutes (total playing time 68:06), from Brigadoon (1947), Paint Your Wagon (1951), My Fair Lady (1956), Gigi (film 1958; staged 1973), and Camelot (1960). The arrangements (all but one by Robert Russell Bennett) are expert. The performances are masterly (if perhaps lacking in just a tad of the infectious brio that the same team brought to R&H). And Telarc's robust sound (recorded 1993) would be hard to improve on. Warmly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Delightful Listening.......1998-12-05

Some of the nicest and nearly forgotten music (Paint your Wagon & Brigadoon) is nicely compiled here. It will make you want to listen to the full soundtracks again, but for a quick tour of Lerner & Lowe, it is very nice.

1 out of 5 stars Don't get fooled!.......2006-09-23

This album is not "new" in any way - it only wants you to waste your money. If you bought "Most Requested Hits" from 2003, you have already bought this album too. I bought "most Requested Hits" for 3 songs ("Sugar", "She Wants Me" and "One Better"). Today I think it was not worth the money at all. I gave a few dollars just for three songs. I used to support Aaron and I have all 5 albums, but now, he's engaged and he's probably too busy to make another record. I mean, it's been 4 years since the last time! Aaron Carter is a part of the past. Now you people let him enjoy his bong alone=)

1 out of 5 stars I feel sorry for this foulmouthed punk..........2006-07-18

...as he tries to maintain his "sweet little boy" persona. I hope he doesn't hurt himself. It would be so crushing to all his fans if they learned the truth about this jerk. Not coincidentally, that's why I wrote this review. I never really liked him in the first place, but hearing what a complete tool this guy is, I hate him even more. I hope to God that I nor anyone else ever has the *ahem* "pleasure" of meeting this conceited little brat. What an a-wipe.

1 out of 5 stars *SIGH*.......2006-02-09

Newsflash: His second "Greatest Hits" album in a row (his last album: "Aaron Carter: Most Requested Hits (2003)"), while he doesn't even score hits anymore:

Zijn last "hit" was in 2001 ["Leave It Up To Me" #22 in UK]... After this, he released 9 other singles
[Not Too Young, Not Too Old - "I'm All About You" - "Another Earthquake" - "Summertime" - "To All the Girls" - "Do You Remember" - "She Wants me" (with Nick) - "One Better" - "Saturday Night"]
ALL, piece by piece, FLOPPED! 4 of them are mentioned on this album:

1. Aaron's Pary (Come Get It) - #51 UK
2. That's How I Beat Shaq - #96 US
3. Bounce [new]
4. My Internet Girl [new]
5. I Want Candy - #31 UK
6. Leave It Up To Me - #22 in Engeland
7. A.C.'s Alien Nation ["Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius" soundtrack]
8. Oh Aaron - Huge Flop
9. I'm All About You - Huge Flop
10. To All the Girls - Flop
11. Another Earthquake - Huge Flop
12. One Better - Flop

As you see, not even one top 20 hit, nowhere... My opinion should be clear by now. If you ask me, his 2003 "Aaron Carter: Most Requested Hits" is far better than this one! I'm sorry for the fans, It's sadly but true. This can't even be called a "greatest hits" album anymore... There are 2 (of the 12) songs you can call a "hit".

1 out of 5 stars hahahahahahaaaa.......2006-01-30

the fact that Jive thinks it's necessary to release a 'best hits' of aaron carter is just ridiculous. how old is he? young 20s? not only has he not had all that many albums, but his songs really aren't worthy of a 'best hits' album. theyre just not. he's aaron carter. please don't support Jive's pathetic attempt to make money, this is a disgrace to music.

5 out of 5 stars Best Cd.......2006-01-30

Okay, i just have to say if you are a true aaron fan you will still buy this cd even though all of his songs are on cds. I know i did and its not a waste of money. Well to you it might be if you aren't a true aaron Fan but if you are this cd is really for you.

Travel back in time to an era when songs were created to enjoy like a rich desert that your mom would make. Howard Keel and his various duet partners have done just this! This CD has a wonderful selection from the great musicals of the 1950's and makes you smile....sigh....and seek to hear them again and again. I would encourage you to add this to your collection as I have. I've even shared it with many of my friends who have come back with the same remarks of great music from one of the great singers of our recent past.

5 out of 5 stars Get It!.......2005-08-23

In the summer of 1978, no one had really heard of Rick James or the Stone City Band. That didn't last long once Rick released his classic, and perhaps, his most authentic funk album, "Come Get It." It dominated the streets that summer. "You and I" was the big hit followed by "Mary Jane" - Rick's personal ode to marijuana. Of course, this should have been a telltale sign to Rick's descent into drug addiction but Rick still spoke in code, whereas today, rappers speak openly and proudly of smoking weed regularly. But regardless of Rick's ideology, this album is superb. There are powerful beats, swinging rhythm tracks, and simple lyrics about partying, life, and love. "Be My Lady" is my favorite while "You and I" still rocks as hard today as it did back in 1978. I can remember playing this album literally everyday back then. It came out at that moment when one is becoming appreciative of music for what it does for you emotionally. This was way before CDs and hip-hop gangstas and sampling machines took music in another direction that it seems to be lost in sometimes. "Come Get It" was pure dance music, authentic funk, and an album that saluted a particular time and era of great fun.

5 out of 5 stars Rick Debuted On American Bandstand.......2005-03-20

..and thus Punk Funk was born. Rick James was much more than a comedy skit punchline, and this 35 year old was there when it all went down. From Bustin Out To Ghetto Life, Rick helped save funk in the "much watered down" grooves in the early 80's. This debut album is a real treat, but do yourself a favor and pick up the Deluxe Edition of Street Songs, which includes a 1981 show in Long Beach, featuring Lady T herself, Teena Marie.

Thank you Rick. Thank you for Punk Funk.

5 out of 5 stars I love Rick James.......2005-03-03

In the late '70s and early '80s, Rick James did more than anyone to challenge George Clinton's place on the funk throne. Eventually, his music would turn into a very tired cliché, but at his creative peak, James was among the most exciting and vital artists funk had to offer. Summarizing his Motown output from 1978-1986 and offering four new tracks from 1994 as well, this two-CD anthology reminds you just how great he once was, but it provides evidence of his artistic decline as well. Though some of the songs are mediocre, most are outstanding. Even the most casual funk fans owe it to themselves to savor such rowdy classics as "Super Freak," "You and I," "Love Gun," "Give It to Me Baby," and "Ghetto Life." James was equally superb when it came to soul ballads -- and anyone who thinks otherwise should give a serious listen to "Fire and Desire" (a stunning duet with Teena Marie), "Dream Maker," and "Ebony Eyes" (which features Smokey Robinson). Sadly, "Cold Blooded" and "17" illustrate how formulaic James' funk often sounded by the mid-'80s. Meanwhile, some of the new material (including an enjoyable remake of Norman Connors' "You Are My Starship") indicated that he had the potential to make a comeback with the right guidance. Boasting many more pluses than minuses, this set is the best place for novices to start.

5 out of 5 stars "From that opening guitar riff....".......2004-08-07

on "You and I," Rick James' was saying "Come Get It!," this mix of hard core funk that still stands up, almost 30 years later. This is one of the top debut albums of all time from an artist who unfortunately had more going on in his personal life at the end of his career. When I first heard "You and I," I knew I had to have this album and when I finally got it, I wasn't disappointed. From "You and I" to "Sexy Lady" to "Mary Jane," this was my summer of '78 soundtrack album, one that got me to get up and move. And as he slowed it down with "Dream Maker" Rick showed that it wasn't all about "funkin' things up!" Rick would go on to make some great music in the future (the classic "Street Songs" album, work w/Teena Marie, among other endeavors), but it is this album that will always rank as my all time favorite. Later on it seemed that Rick let other things get in the way of the music and that in the end was too bad. I was saddened to hear of his death today and this lead me to thinking about his music and mainly, this album, which is a classic debut by a very talented man...RIP Rick.
