1 out of 5 stars ...maybe if you like crap.......2005-11-21

wow, what a terrible aweful steaming pile of crap. if you want to slow down the bad brains and take away any raw energy that made you like them, then go for it. a collection of bands that are more ruining the original than paying tribute to the band's work. if you don't like the bad brains, but like the crappy bands doing these ruinations, then hurry and buy this gem.

3 out of 5 stars hardcore heaven.......1999-12-09

i don't even like hardcore but i had to get this album just because of the number of "stars" on it. the vod song is awesome. moby pulls off something special with the drum loop filled "sailin on" and snapcase rock as usualy. i have to say the cave in song, with it's haunting melodies and 8 minutes worth of guitar effects and distortion was a pleasant surprise as well. the rest of the album is pretty much bad brain songs at their hardcore best. hardcore fans need to get this album as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 stars A great tribute full of great bands........1999-09-10

This is a great CD. It is great from the first track by Moby(someone I didn't expect to see on a Bad Brains tribute) all the way to the last track by Cave-In. If you are a Cave-In fan you have to get this CD for their version of "I Luv I Jah." Let me just say that it is not what I expected but I love every second of it. Other standouts are the songs by Will Haven, Shai Hulu'd, and Snapcase.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Japanese underground tribute to Bad Brains.......2003-02-23

The underground punk/reggae scene in Japan is not well known. But to those in the know, when the Bad Brains visit Tokyo, they're revered in ways that probably still surprises the band. This comprehensive tribute album from a variety of punk, reggae, and club groups in Japan, is the ultimate in band worship. Renditions of classic Bad Brains songs on this album are full of heartfelt attempts to exactly imitate Bad Brain classics.
While these adoring bands capure the technical requirements of hardcore (with some nice, clever musical twists), the vocals don't approach the frenzied, yet smooth soulfulness of HR. But that's okay. Because once you get past the first half of the CD (which is comprised of mostly straight forward covers), the second half is really interesting. Some of the interpretations are really cool. One of the bands feature a female vocalist who really captures the spirit of the Bad Brains with a unique, lush interpretation of one of Bad Brains most "hardest" tunes. Very nice. I definitely recommend this CD for Bad Brains fans. I also believe aspiring musicians and DJs looking for new ways to cover classic songs would find this very unique tribute album worthy of study. [Also the CD includes a fun, raw recording of Bad Brains' latest tune, On Like Popcorn. The song first appeared on their last concert album, (as Soul Brains), recorded in San Francisco just a few years ago.]
