4 out of 5 stars back to the 80's.......2007-05-09

if this was your favorite time , 80's
then this the perfect way to relive the memories
great listening

3 out of 5 stars Acoustic redo of 80s hair rock.......2007-04-13

You have to dig hearing these classics in a fresh version. Accept's Balls to the Wall is just haunting. One major oversight is Firehouse's When I Look into Your Eyes, that was a repeat from Vol.1 and makes this lose a star.

4 out of 5 stars Great gift!.......2007-04-10

I ordered this for my boyfriend who had the other 2 previous volumes. It completes his collection and he loves it!

5 out of 5 stars 80's hair bands.......2007-04-06

If you are a 80's hair band fan and want to hear them unplugged= this along with volume 1 and 2 are what you need!

3 out of 5 stars Hit or Miss.......2007-03-15

I'm a fan of all 3 of these CDs as I like of the bands on them. Like the other 2, I find this one to be pretty much hit or miss as well. I think the best new tracks are Tommy and Jack's High Enough, Eric Martin's Just Take My Heart and Autograph's Turn Up The Radio. Eric Martin still has the voice to pull off probably every song in Mr. Big's catalog acoustically. Some of the new tracks are still really good like Jani's Heaven and Kix' track. Other tracks have been offered up before from various sources so who hasn't heard Tesla's Signs a million times and seen Poison's MTV Unplugged show?

Low points on this compilation for me are what I consider to be one of the worst tracks I've heard in years in Slaughter's Up All Night. It's from a live performance and it's just dreadful. I don't know how this even made it onto this CD, it's laughable. William Hung could have done better with this track. I don't think Ratt's Way Cool Jr is much better.

Very odd arangement for Accept's Balls To the Wall, but it's not bad... just unexpected.

Again, like the other 2 CDs in this series there are several new gems, some re-releases and some garbage. For fans of the genre like me, I think they're a lot of fun though.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great CD!!.......2006-12-10

First, the positive review of what I have heard from my new CD. They picked a great list of songs. "Silent Lucidity" is my favorite because Geoff Tate can sing absolutely ANYTHING, no matter what! And it's about time that "Ballad of Jayne" by L.A. Guns was properly put where it belongs, and not ignored. From the many awesome Great White ballads, they picked the best.

Ok, now for the criticism. Night Ranger and Alias should not have even been selected for this CD. And "The Way It Is" by Tesla was the absolute wrong song to add. "Love Song" was the most popular ballad by them, and it should have been on this CD. I was highly disappointed with that choice. "When the Children Cry" was not even sung in tune with the original at all. I didnt even know what song it was until the chorus.

But overall, I was happy with this CD and would suggest it to all the power ballad lovers out there.

2 out of 5 stars give me a break.....Metal???.......2006-01-14

This is not metal, it's old school rock and roll. Yes, it's all good music by very talented artists, but it is NOT Metal. It's not even heavy ROCK for pity's sake, yes, it's sappy ballads...

4 out of 5 stars Great Alubm, but "Metal" and "Mania"?!?.......2006-01-03

I really like this album...but another reviewer has it right, it's simply another metal ballads compiliation...albeit a VERY good one. Each song is a really inspired take on the original, some in intimate performance settings, others apparently in studio. The only song that didn't impress me much was Extreme's "More Than Words", but being an accoustic song to begin with, all they could really do is an a cappella version...which didn't impress me much.
If you are a child of the 80's hair-band, metal, and stoner music era, this is an album you will likely enjoy. It's ill-thought out sequel is *NOT* on my suggested disc list, so be thorough in your pre-purchase consideration.
As a hobbyist guitar player, I really enjoy hearing the different takes on these songs. Definitely on my favorites list!

5 out of 5 stars Acoustic power ballads.......2005-09-08

Some don't like metal associated with 80's hair rock power ballads, hey whatever. Very good acoustic performances give a new life to classics from the past. VH1 might have considered a more definitive title for this collection though.

3 out of 5 stars Lacks original feel.......2005-08-13

Not too bad of a set list, but some of the songs lack the original feel. The main ones are: Don't Know What You Got (Until it's Gone) by Cinderella and When the Children Cry (White Lion). Children Cry was a dissapointment. The original had feeling in the tone, structure, and melody. In this version, M. Tramp sounds bored.
When I Look Into Your Eyes is still lame, and I mean lyric wise. I swear if I knew better, thos words were written by a 4th or 5th grader. However, the vocals on it are powerful.
They could have chosen a better song than I Saw Red for Warrant. That version is available on their greatest hits cd. The one they should have added was the acoustic version of Blind Faith. Wow, that was so much better than the original. You have to buy the single of We Will Rock You in order to hear it, and it is worth trying to find a copy.
Silent Lucidity sounds really good, as to my surprise, Sister Christian by Night Ranger. I was never a fan, but eh...the song is decent. His voice sounds a little raspy, but doesn't hinder the tune.
More than Words by Extreme is without the guitar...and...it works, mainly because it is a dominant vocal song.
Tesla's tune doesn't belong on there. It's a filler. I know they had better ballads than that one. That also knocked a whole star for me. Fillers are common, but when it's picking greatest hits type cd's, there is no reason for filler.
Overall sound quality is good...some songs are low such as Poison's Every Rose, but that's because it was recorded back in 1991 on MTV Unplugged. Oh well, I heard there is a DVD coming out...should be interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Metal Mania!!!!.......2007-03-15

I remember when I was younger rockin' out hardcore to some 80s metal. It was one of the highlights of my childhood looking back. I was definitely excited to hear them "stripped". It was an amazing compilation of the songs I grew up on as well as the more mellow sound I've grown accustomed to lately. It was a major mix of nostalgia and excitement that took me back to a time when I had no worries. I highly recommened you pick this one up for a trip down memory lane.

4 out of 5 stars Nelson's version is awesome!.......2006-09-15

If you like Big Hair, this is a must have, even if for no other reason than to round out your collection. I have to say, Nelson's version of Love and Affection is awesome...should be on the radio now.

4 out of 5 stars 80's hair metal unplugged.......2006-09-09

With Metal Mania Stripped Vol.2 you many 80's hair metal classics served up acoustically. While none of the songs improve upon the original versions, this cd does make for an enjoyable listen. The songs lose the powerful feel that many of the originals had and go for the intimate feel. Some of the highlights are: Here I Go Again, Talk Dirty to Me, Heaven's Tail, Once Bitten, Twice Shy. I didn't really care for Round and Round, done in this way, but for the most part this is an enjoyable cd. The cd will mainly interest fans of the 80's hair metal genre.

4 out of 5 stars A fun album..........2006-02-19

...especially if you like anachronistic covers. Okay, they're not covers per se, they're rerecordings by the original artists, acoustic-style. Still, mellow hair metal has its charm, mainly as a guilty pleasure.

1 out of 5 stars I was hoping for Slayer to come in punch them all........2006-02-10

Do you remember MTV Unplugged? Do you remember watching your favorite bands absolutely embarrass themselves in front of coffee sipping yuppies who could only see these bands in this kind of venue because they know they'd get their tail kicked at a real show? Well, in case you forgot, now you can buy that same atrocity here and relive those magical years.

There's a reason MTV Unplugged isnt around and this CD proves it. Just listen to the samples here first before you give away your hard earned minimum-wage money.

Whilst these are great to own on CD it's unfortunate that SPV/Steamhammer has done it so cheaply and with scant care for the originals. On Obsessed By Evil the track listing is completely wrong.Intros which are not separate songs are counted as songs (for example Outbreak Of Evil, a 4 and a half minute song comes up as only the 14 second intro).Furthermore, the last track, Volcanic Slut isn't even on the CD!!! The only reason I worked this out is cos I have the LP. The sooner someone reissues this properly the better.

5 out of 5 stars You Can't Get a Better Deal Than This.......2004-10-24

"In the Sign of Evil" and "Obssessed..." are the only albums before Bathory's "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" that can be construed as proto-black metal. The vocals, atmosphere, and attitude in general have to be experienced, for anyone to understand truly what "dark music" means. Alternately despairing, inspiring, enraging...this is hard to top.
"Persecution Mania" steps all over Slayer's "Reign in Blood".
Look at it that way...

5 out of 5 stars Germans f*ckin rule.......2004-08-25

They got the thrash down, they got great drumming, and the monstrous voice is a fantastic diabolic touch.A long and dark walk through the world of Sodom.Overlooking this album would be your first mistake as a thrasher.Bobenhagel and Christ Passion-the key tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Three of the Best 80's Thrash Albums.......2004-06-27

While others have disappeared, changed beyond recognition, or just started, Sodom was one of the pioneers and remains true to their roots to this day. One of the "big 3" of German thrash with Kreator and Destruction, Sodom pumps big sound as a 3-piece. Motorhead and Venom influences are quite prevalent on these, their first three albums. The albums were originally released in the following order (and unfortunately they appear in order of production quality in this package--best to worst):

IN THE SIGN OF EVIL (1984) - debut EP. Extremely evil sounding with lots of heavy breathing and grunting. Somewhat juvenile, but a very powerful, fast album that sets the tone for thousands of future death metal bands, most notably Sepultura. The production quality is excellent. Witchhunter's drumming is insane--galloping double-bass with amazing solos at nearly every time change.

OBSESSED BY CRUELTY (1986) - first full length album. This is what should be the band's best album, had it not been for the production. In fact, it could have been one of the best thrash albums of all time. Once again, Witchhunter's drumming is excellent--he traded-in some of the solos for tighter, faster sound. Unfortunately, the drums are the only instrument that even sound half decent. The guitar work is excellent with lots of good hooks, but with the overall tinny sound, the guitar is often lost to a hiss heard over the entire album. The vocals sound distant and were poorly mixed. I can't wait for the day that Sodom returns to the studio to rerecord this masterpiece and do it the justice it deserves.

PERSECUTION MANIA (1987) - this one put Sodom on the map. By most fans, this is their number one album, with the followup "Agent Orange" being a close and very similar sounding second. Produced by the thrashmaster Harris Johns (also known for his work with Helloween, Coroner, Kreator and Voivod). Witchhunter once again tames his drumming for a slightly slower, more consistent tempo and new guitarist Frank Blackfire lends the band a Motorhead-esque full sound that they continue to churn out today. Definitely one of the top ten albums every thrash fan should own. The "Expurse of Sodomy" EP bonus tracks (Sodomy and Lust, Conqueror and My Atonement) typically packaged with "Persecution.." are present and are the pinnacle of this collection, combining the brutally evil early sound with Persecution production quality.

5 out of 5 stars Hardcore Thrash/Death these albums are brutal and they rule!.......2004-04-24

This is a 2-cd set with 2 albums on the first cd and one one the other. The first cd with In the Sign of Evil is the Harder of the two with songs like blasphemer and witching metal sounding like prototype death metal. The songs on these cd's are some of the fastest thrash around, think beneath the remains sepultura style maybe even faster, the only thing that kind of sucks is Tom angelrippers voice back then was kind of weird. His voice is way better now. Trust me, his voice isn't as bad as like Steve Souza's or anything and it won't keep you from enjoying the hell out of these two cd's. 5 stars for some of the fastest hardest thrash around.

This is a great album. It's very speed metally, and the songs are memorable. I recommend this for fans of, let's say, Slayer's Reign in Blood.

5 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT THRASH FOR THE THINKING METAL FAN.......2006-01-16

absolute gem of a thrash band, so much to say lyrically and musically. these guys have always been a breath of fresh air choosing to stay away from the generic stereotypes of metal like the cheesy evil obsessed and laughable satan references. much of their material stems from the sins of WAR and much more relevant topics. oh ya, they also kick ass, hope you have forgiving neighbours. play it loud, cheers

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC GERMAN BLACK THRASH!!!!!.......2005-10-17

SODOM came right back after ''OBESSED..'' with a much better offering!!

This is based around WAR and not SATAN this time(the band killed off all satanic lyric's at this stage)

Some of the best METAL song's you will ever hear!!!!!!
''CHRIST PASSION''
''NUCLEAR WINTER''
''PERSECUTION MANIA''..etc!

This re-release has killer bonus song's.. so BUY IT UP!!!!!!

ANOTHER ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVE ALBUM's...I RECEMOND YOU NOT BUY IT POSER!!!!!! ONLY FOR THE TRUE METAL FAN's..most own this by now as well!!!!!

''LIVING IN A LAND OF PROMISE''

I AM FORVER IN PERSECUTION MANIA!!!!!!! CULT!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Sodom Best, German Thrash Classic!.......2005-07-03

Persecution mania is a Thrash Classic,
It's one of the most Evil Thrash Metal album I ever heard!
Even Many other black metal bands don't as evil as Sodom,
Those raw recording,
Raw, Simple and fast guitar riff, Satan and Evil image*,
[*songs like Christ Passion, Outbreak of Evil]
With Tom Angelripper demon like Voice!
It's like a primitive form of Black Metal!

Nuclear Winter, Persecution Mania,
Christ Passion, Outbreak of Evil and
Sodomy and Lust are The standout in this album,

Nuclear Winter and Persecution Mania just two classic Sodom songs.

Christ Passion and Sodomy And Lust just some of the most evil moment from Sodom,
Plus Sodomy and Lust got some Most Evil and Best Guitar Riff I ever heard!

Outbreak of Evil is The most simply song I ever heard,
I'm sure who plays guitar for 2 months is already know how to play the whole song,
But it's simply amazing!!!
Very great song and Evil as Hell!

Many people talk about Persecution and Agent Orange,
which one is better?
Agent Orange got more heavy clean production,
Songs Sounds More complex, Intense and Aggressive,
Persecution Mania Sounds more raw and Evil!
Well, Both are Masterpiece and I love them all!!!

Together with Kreator Pleasure To Kill are two of the most Raw Thrash Classic from Germany!
A MASTERPIECE!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Sodom - 'Persecution Mania' (SPV).......2005-04-03

Probably one of the planet's unholiest bands, that for sure.Didn't even know until recently that these scream-until-you're-dead black metal merchants were even still together. This CD is the band's second effort and maybe one of their best to date.Tracks that about made my wall clock fall were "Nuclear Winter","Outbreak Of Evil",their Motorhead cover "Iron Fist","My Atonement" and "The Conqueror".Line-up:Angel Ripper-bass&vocals,Aggressor-guitar&vocals and Witch Hunter-drums.I'm assuming these aren't their REAL names.Should appeal to fans of Forbidden,Exodus,Onslaught,S.O.D. and King Diamond.

    5 out of 5 stars Sodom's classic material.......2001-03-13

Sodom are arguably the most important thrash band to come out of Europe. Over the years, they have released many recordings, some of which have been quite mediocre. Right here, however, you have a collection which features the four major recordings which set a fundamental standard for European metal. The "Obsessed by Cruelty" disc also has the 5-song "In the Sign of Evil" ep, one of the great early pieces of black metal. The release of the "Persecution Mania" lp saw the emergence of the tight thrash sound that Sodom is known for ( it also has a kick ass Motorhead cover). On that same disc, there are bonus tracks from the "Expurse of Sodomy" ep ( possibly the best songs they've ever written). Unless you're a particular fan of this band, you could do without buying all of Sodom's stuff. The music on these two discs, however, is absolutely essential. These early Sodom releases, along side of the classic Celtic Frost and Possessed albums, provided a massive influence for the majority of death and black metal bands that are out now. Anyone with even a passing interest in extreme metal should own this.

This is a great collection of rock and hard rock music that is best suited to be used while drivin' on down the highway. 'How Long, How Long Blues - Lou Rawls' is the only track that seems somewhat out of place next to all the rest of the fast-paced rock songs. 'The Age Of Pamparius - Turbonegro' is a great live song, which is better known as being the opening theme music for the MTV show WildBoyz. This is a definite must-have for West Coast Choppers fans and hard rock modern biker and hot rod culture.

If you are a fan of the show Monster garage and you like driving fast, then this is the record. I bought it because I saw the film, and I thought the music was awesome... It wasn't that there was anything really new, aside from a couple of things but it just one of those old school rock records that seemed like it was meant to be listened to in the car, really loud and driving really fast. I didn't know too much about Fu manchu and The Supersuckers though, and am looking for new stuff by both of them, because of this cd.

3 out of 5 stars metal mania gone.......2001-09-04

i must admit to liking some of the songs, but i think that the individual albums of these artists are better. some of the live tracks are good, but i enjoyed their regular studio albums better. not my cup of tea, but could be for other metal rockers.
