Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21

The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.

2 out of 5 stars Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15

As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2006-05-17

The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06

I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24

Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

WOW - WOW !!! I have heard a new god! This remaster is beyond comparison. How could I be shocked since the BEF guys behind Heaven 17 were involved with this project - the aural landscape provided in this release is mind expanding. No need for a crappy stepped on X pill. This is a masterpiece. Fresh musical experimentation in the early 80s - truly amazing. As a huge Human League fan, I can only say that, now - without a doubt - H-17 had the soul and energy; if Phil and Martyn could get over whatever happened ...... Am waiting for the 2 other Heaven remasters. This is ear candy with a smart kick in the head and two in each hip. Truly, absolutely groundbreaking - and brilliant.

4 out of 5 stars Lockhart's Debut Recording with the Boston Pops.......2004-08-13

RUNNING WILD is collection of Glenn Miller favorites and is Keith Lockhart's debut recording with the Boston Pops Orchestra. The musical quality is good. While it does not demonstrate the style that Lockhart would later develop with the orchestra, it certainly offers glimpses of what is to come. Perhaps the recording's strongest tracks are the musical numbers with guests: John Pizzarelli and the King Singers, especially the album's rendition of "Chattanooga Choo-Choo". One of Lockhart's greatest strengths is selecting guests to accompany the orchestra and this album is a foretaste of what is later to come, particularly on the Celtic and Mexican collections released later in Lockhart's tenure. While the album is good, and Lockhart seems to enjoy conducting these Big Band pieces, his rendition of "In the Mood" is missing something, which is surprising since this work is such a staple at Pops concerts, but even a not quiet the best rendition of any piece by the Boston Pops is still far better than much of what is available.

5 out of 5 stars "Runnin' Wild" will get you "In the Mood" for Big Band tunes.......2003-11-08

When John Williams stepped down as conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra after 14 successful seasons, the talented young Keith Lockhart was chosen as his replacement. Looking more like a college freshman than music director of one of America's most famous orchestras, Lockhart has proved to be just as adept and popular as Williams and the late Arthur Fiedler.

1996's Runnin' Wild is a collection of songs made famous by Big Band era orchestra leader Glenn Miller, whose civilian and later Army Air Force bands provided audiences with music to dance to (and love to) before and during World War II. Before his mysterious death in December 1944, Miller's band and featured vocalists gave the world such beloved swing standards as "In The Mood," "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," "A String of Pearls," and his signature theme, "Moonlight Serenade."

Listen to this album, close your eyes, and the Boston Pops Orchestra transports you back to the 1940s, with young men in uniform dancing with either their wives, sweethearts, or USO girls to the fast-paced "Runnin' Wild"...gently swaying the sweet "A String of Pearls" (featured in the film The Glenn Miller Story)...or sharing that last sweet bit of lovemaking to the slow beat of "Moonlight Serenade."

Of the 16 selections, "Moonlight Serenade" is the one I am most familiar with, having heard it as incidental music or "source" material in so many World War II movies or documentaries. It's slow, gentle, romantic yet sensual, and it's the only "Glenn Miller" song actually written by the bandleader. Originally titled "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep," it was a big hit in 1939 and was the theme song for both Miller's and Tex Beneke's bands. The Pops' performance of it captures its air of nostalgia perfectly, and the clarinet solo by Thomas Martin is simply fabulous.

Modern standards singer John Pizzarelli and The King's Singers show their stuff on several tracks, most vividly so in "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," which was another chart-topping hit for Miller in 1941, the year the U.S. entered World War II. Pizzarelli has a way of channeling the great vocalists of the era, with his easy-to-listen voice and flawless delivery. The King's Singers are wonderful backup in other songs, including "Serenade in Blue" and "(I've Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo."

As a soloist, Pizzarelli shines in the more romantic (and slower) "The Nearness of You," a song that might have been on a serviceman's mind when reading a letter from his wife or girlfriend.

Another sentimental favorite where Pizzarelli performs well is 1940's "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," a song introduced in Britain and popularized not only by Glenn Miller but also Guy Lombardo and Sammy Kay.

Several genres also get the Glenn Miller treatment, such as opera (Verdi's "The Anvil Chorus," from Il Trovatore), vaudeville ("My Blue Heaven") blues ("The St. Louis Blues March") and even Russian traditional songs ("Volga Boatmen").

So if you want to get "In the Mood" and have a good time listening to a fun Boston Pops Orchestra album, Runnin' Wild is definitely worth getting.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun!.......2000-11-02

I bought this CD three days ago and it hasn't left my CD player since. There is nothing like waking up and putting on "In the Mood" to start your day, or listening to "Moonlight Serenade" to end it.

4 out of 5 stars Okay, but lose the cover.......2000-05-31

The Pops are a Boston institution. They have been a tradition for many and familiar to most. I have been to the Pops probably as often as to Fenway Park. I like both and find great comfort in each.

What happens with much of what the Pops attempt here is goofy. The cover art, is I presume, similar to the old Arthur Fiedler covers where he wore a funny coat or hat and tried to look less symphonic and more silly. Give it up.

The strength of the Pops is the traditional, predictable format and arrangements that are as easy to identify as your own child. That too is the unfortunate part of the Pops. There needs to be a little something new here.

So if you enjoy the traditional string arrangements and percussion of the Pops this will not disappoint you. If you are trying to get a youngster excited about this music you might more easily find an elevator and listen to the musak.

Classical arrangements, novelty music and patriotic songs are the best the Pops can provide. The swing music just doesn't do it for me.

Runnin' wild? Maybe with a walker.

5 out of 5 stars Swing at its best!.......2000-01-08

I'll tell you a little story about this CD from Keith Lockhart. I'm a baby-boomer brought up on swing and am constantly looking for quality big band recordings. I bought this album several years ago when it was first released and I loved it. Whenever I played it at home, my 18 y/o daughter gave me the business about my "old fogey" music. One day, however, I happened to come home unexpectedly and there she was in the family room with "String of Pearls" at nearly full volume. I bought her the album when she went to college and she says that she's since converted nearly half the dorm to swing. This is probably the best recording of big band sounds ever. Also look at "Pops Stoppers" which is half big band tunes and "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)". Both are excellent as well.

5 out of 5 stars "Blowin In The Wind" is beautiful.......2003-04-11

The whole CD is really very good, but "Blowin In The Wind" is arranged in a different key and is so haunting and beautiful. My son is in Iraq right now fighting for their liberation, and I was in Vietnam. Bob Dylan's music holds a powerful place in my heart and I just had to get this CD when I saw it. I've listened to it over and over again and I really like it. Although not every song is as good for a quartet as "Blowin In The Wind", they all are worth 5 stars. If I could give this CD 6 stars, I would. If you have never heard Bob Dylan, this CD is still good IMHO.

Guitarist Jim Campilongo is no more a jazz artist and no less eclectic than Norah Jones, his bandmate in their Little Willies side project. Like virtuosi as different from each other as Chet Atkins, Jeff Beck, and Pat Metheny--each of whom Campilongo's music occasionally recalls--he's more concerned with tone, timbre, and space than with show-off runs of hot-licks speed. With his rhythm section almost subliminal, supporting the guitarist rather than pushing him, the trio's music is primarily instrumental, though vocalist Martha Wainwright provides a timewarp turn with her tremulous vocal on Stephen Foster's "Beautiful Dreamer," while Jones cuts to the heart of "Cry Me a River" (also featured as a wiry instrumental). As the name of the album suggests, Campilongo has a knack for the quirky, catchy title, and as Chuck Berry once praised, "He can play the guitar just like ringing a bell" (literally, on the album-opening "The Prettiest Girl in New York"). --Don McLeese

Album Description

Called an "American treasure" by Billboard Magazine, acclaimed guitarist Jim Campilongo's new release "HEAVEN IS CREEPY" is his best and most anticipated record to date .

"HEAVEN IS CREEPY" has ten great Campilongo instrumentals with special guest appearances by Grammy Award winning vocalist Norah Jones (Cry Me A River) and the critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright (Beautiful Dreamer).

Campilongo's "HEAVEN IS CREEPY" comes during one of his most active periods that included a collaboration with Norah Jones, Richard Julian, Lee Alexander and Dan Rieser in The Little Willies. This combo exposed Jim's guitar mastery to excited audiences nationwide. Performances included The Conan O'Brien Show, David Letterman, The World Cafe and more. The Little Willies debut album also demonstrated Jim's formidable writing talents (Easy As the Rain) that reached # 48 on the BILLBOARD TOP 200.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent, idiosyncratic guitar work.......2007-02-12

Every Jim Campilongo CD that appears receives glowing reviews from "Guitar Player" and "Vintage Guitar" magazines--and with good reason. As on this new CD, Campilongo always plays brilliantly. His playing is not merely technically brilliant but also highly intelligent and witty. His sense of humor shows up in some of his song titles--here, for instance, the funky, bend-alicious "Hamster Wheel (Slight Return)." A true master of the Telecaster, Campilongo can play fluid, melodic lines--and he can also devise twisting near-cacophonies: tones from some truly unusual heaven. Some of the music, such as the title song, here, sounds like it could be a soundtrack to a particularly funny David Lynch film.

And for fans of Norah Jones: you really should buy this CD, if only to hear her backed by one of the great guitarists of our time. Campilongo and his band create a great space for her lovely voice.

5 out of 5 stars Great Playing + Great Sounds = Great Album.......2007-01-12

I've seen Jim so many times live and have always loved his playing and the group interplay. Oftentimes it's hard to capture the "magic" of a band that is so good live. This record really does exactly that: you get the feel a wonderful night at the Living Room in NYC with the stellar clean sounds of a high-end recording studio. Really inspired interesting playing from everyone with beautifully recorded sounds. Everyone's ideas are at once surprising and sophisticated, yet very accessible. I find myself listening to it over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars Heaven is 'wonderfully' Creepy.......2007-01-04

Stellar playing (and choices) by Jim Campilongo, carried even further by the bass player, Tim Luntzel. Dan Rieser is excellent on percussion. It's obvious they're thinking and playing as one. Martha Wainwright's 'Beautiful Dreamer' is a pleasant surprise, and works beautifully with the delicate bass playing. Norah Jones, of course, always sounds marvelous. This is a perfect group to back her.

5 out of 5 stars Jim Campilongo Rocks, Swings, and Does A Lot Of Other Things.......2006-09-24

Jim's guitar sounds a bit like Jerry Garcia met the Ventures on his cover of an old standard, Cry Me A River. Each track has it's own special ambience that keeps this mostly instrumental album from ever sounding too much the same. What an amazing player.

5 out of 5 stars A Gem Out of New Orleans.......2006-08-14

Fats Domino is a true gem out of New Orleans. As I listen to this CD I savor the sounds that we may never hear coming out of New Orleans again. There is a feeling of sadness and longing as you listen to Fats sing Walking To New Orleans.

5 out of 5 stars When whippoorwills call.......2004-02-27

Elvis Presley once called Fats Domino "the real King of Rock and Roll". Listening to the evidence on this CD, one might be inclined to agree with him. These are songs that helped to define rock and roll (although a couple of them actually pre-date the rock and roll era). This is great stuff, and it's a good sampler of his best work (although he recorded many other great songs besides the 20 included here). The songs are presented in chronological order, except for the title song, which comes first. One might ask "why was this CD named after 'My Blue Heaven', which wasn't even one of his biggest hits?" Well, there was a movie with that title that came out around the same as this CD did. It starred Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, and it wasn't a very big hit either. Anyway, if you are looking for a single disk Fats Domino collection, this is a good one.

5 out of 5 stars 20 hit songs from da Fat Man himself!.......2004-02-11

New Orleans was the Mecca of musical styles, be it blues, ragtime, jazz, which was born there, and creole. Mixing jazz, boogie-woogie, Cajun, and blues, all crafted by bandleader Dave Bartholomew's arrangements, Antoine Domino became one of the key figures in the birth of rock, as many of his songs were covered by white artists who didn't have that leisurely warm drawl of his. And that nickname Fats, given to him by musician Billy Diamond, stuck. However, despite his transcending racism and ageism prevalent in the white-dominated music business of the 1950's, Fats Domino scored better on the R&B charts than the pop charts. This compilation takes Fats Domino's Imperial singles from 1953 to 1961. Highlights: "My Blue Heaven" is a perfect example of engaging piano and accompanying brass that characterized his sound. And it was featured in the movie of the same name with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis. It was also the flipside of "I'm In Love Again", #1 R&B, #3 pop, which clearly showed some rock and roll sounds also familiarized by Buddy Holly. An amusing line is "baby don't let your dog bite me."

"The Fat Man" was a cleaned up version of Champion Jack Dupree's "Junker Blues," a drug song from 1940. Fats' version hit #2 on the R&B charts.

The mid-paced cajun-flavoured "Ain't That A Shame" proved to be Fats' breakthrough in rock and roll, but at a price. Pat Boone's version hit #1, while Fats version only hit #10. Urggh, now ain't that really a shame? A similar sound is heard in his best known song, his cover of Louis Armstrong's "Blueberry Hill," which highlights his Cajun drawl and its pre-rock sound didn't stop it from getting to #2 on the pop charts and #1 on the R&B charts.

Another #1 R&B hit was his cover of Smiley Lewis's "Blue Monday" which not only sports the same sound but was featured in the rock-and-roll movie The Girl Can't Help It, which had him performing that number in the latter part of the movie. My favourite bit is that drumming that accompanies his singing "Saturday morning, Saturday morning." Blue Monday, better than thinking a la Garfield "I hate Mondays."

The #1 R&B fingersnapping boogie-woogie "I'm Walkin'" was one of three songs featuring "walking" in the title, and he and Ricky Nelson duetted on this a few years before the latter's death. The other two "walking" songs were the leisurely "Walkin' To New Orleans" which sports some strings and the #1 R&B "I Want To Walk You Home," another leisurely number.

"Valley Of Tears" only hit #2 R&B, but it's more leisurely than Fats' usual oeuvre. I wonder how the original by Brenda Lee sounds. I can imagine Buddy Holly doing the rollicking rockabilly of "Whole Lotta Love", which is a sweet marriage song that hit #2 R&B.

One of his last hits was the upbeat rock and roll "Let The Four Winds Blow" with that sweet tagline, "from the east to the west, I love you the best." And the festive "What A Party" clearly has Fats and friends having lots of fun.

Fats proved that one didn't have to be a hunka man like Elvis or a hotblooded young guy in order to make it. The ageism that made Bill Haley's career shortlived didn't affect Domino at all. But furthermore, chart evidence shows that he beat the racism that affected other black artists, as thirty-six of his songs hit the Top 40 from 55 to 63, making him only second to Elvis. And his songs were simple, with no hidden or double meanings, all within two minutes and packed with that upbeat boogie-woogie/cajun sound. And this from a guy who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986) and Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement Grammies in 1987. This collection will put your in your own Blue Heaven.

5 out of 5 stars 40 minutes of pure happiness in 20 songs..........2002-06-05

If Buddy Holly proved you could be skinny, geeky and wear glasses and still become a rock star, then Fats proved you could be plump, black, and stay seated at the piano and be a rock star...if enough talent was there. His songs are brief and simple but perfectly effective...some of them jump, some are ballads, some have fine lyrics, most have super keyboarding and a few have a wailing sax that really grooves. I am old enough to remember when most of the hits on this disc first came out, but even if you are not, you'll still enjoy them: "When My Dreamboat Comes Home" and "Blueberry Hill" and "I'm Walkin'" and "Valley of Tears" and "Walking to New Orleans" are the most famous. My favorite is "I'm Gonna Be a Wheel Someday", which I recall singing to myself when I had a hopeless crush on a girl in 10th grade who was far above my station. Also great are "Ain't It a Shame" and "I Want to Walk You Home" and just about all the others. Fats got his start in R & B when it was still called "race music", a few years before "Rock 'N Roll" became the immortal phrase. He bridged both worlds easily. He was a giant, and not just in the waistline. No collection of "Fifties Rock" can leave him out.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps he was the true "King of Rock and Roll'.......2002-04-04

Hey forget about Elvis, forget about Little Richard or Chuck Berry or Jerry lee or Jackie Wilson. There's darn good evidence on this cd that Fats was the true "King Of Rock and Roll". Buy this cd and judge for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars exciting comeback .......2007-04-18

BOC was never a heavymetal band in the true sense but a far more melodic rockband with obscure lyrics, to say the least and an exciting liveshow, especially midway the seventies, when they used lasers, flares, dry ice, mirror balls etc. to give the audience what they came for and at those moments the band could be seen as a prototype metaloutfit, like for instance Steppenwolf. Musically its was more different, they could play anything within the rockvein, even towards pop. Their biggest hit in 1975 was "(Don't Fear) the Reaper", not very metallic, huh. Now (i.e. 1998) with still 3 of the original bandmembers around - after 3 decades that is - BOC returns with a new album and 10 brand new songs (plus a remake of an earlier released one) and it is terrific from the first to the last and even heavier than most of earlier material, however with a knack for clever melodies, in the same tradition as on older albums. The lyrics are this time more coherent and comprehensible (courtesy of author John Shirley), they tell a story, fantasy or more real happenings. Anyway, I always liked BOC very much and held them in high resteem, which is not getting lesser by listening to this tremendous comebackalbum. It stands in the top of their oeuvre, which is extinsive. They still have the gift for performe strong songs, in the studio and live. Check also out the latterday live CD/DVD "A Long Day's Night" and the newer studio "Curse of the Hidden Mirror", which can be compared with "Heaven Forbid".

3 out of 5 stars Hit or Miss, but overall worth owning.......2007-01-29

BOC has travelled a long, long road since the seventies. Though the music has gradually changed from that classic rock of the 70's, the keyboard and synth usage of the 80's, and now the full rock sound of late, their lyrics have always had this dark, macabre side that makes you run the lyrics through your head over and over to decipher their cryptic meaning. Until this CD. BOC is not well known for rabbling a phrase over and over again during the song, but this CD is plagued with it. This is especially prevalent in "Hammer Back" and "Damaged" which rank at the bottom of the song ladder in BOC's extensive library. This kind of repetition correlates with a writer not having enough new ideas to fill a song without some catchy- but not cute- phrase. Some of the songs just feel forced.

BOC got a new lyricist, John Shirley, for Heaven Forbid. The ideas are mostly great and somewhat follow the traditional BOC lyrics: dark, spooky, intelligent- but Shirley drops the tray of goodies with poor linkage in the songs. These seem more fit for a band like Nickelback, where crappy songwriting is acceptable.

"See You In Black" was almost a killer song. Musically it is superb, lyrically it is in the "wanting" department. I think I lost it on this one with the line "You can't pretend he isn't beating you up". Come on. There has to be another way to convey the message without sounding like a 7th grade creative writing project. It gets a B.

"Harvest Moon" is one of BOC's finest, and here's why: Buck Darma on vocals and John Shirley didn't write it. Notice how your spine tingles and your hair raises on end while reading the lyrics and listening to the song. No spoilers here- you need to listen to it yourself and you'll agree. A+

"Power Underneath Despair" has a great song idea and music that is once again marred by Shirley's poor lyrics. Here comes the repetition pitfall. "Power underneith, power underneith, power underneith..." It gets old real quick. It's a Metallica song skipping. This one gets a D.

"X-Ray Eyes" recovers and manages to keep a little mystery in it. Shirley on the lyrics again but this time he manages to keep the cat in the bag a little. Musically, it's superb. This gets a B.

"Hammer Back" is just terrible. I think it's Collective Soul on steroids playing and Deftones writing. This one is just too cheesy to take seriously. "Maybe at a Seven-Eleven, maybe at a quick carjack... Keep the hammer back. Don't keep the safety on..." Wow. It tries so hard to be hardcore but misses an element of creativity. Don't deflower your speakers with this one. This gets a big F.

"Damaged" is a good song at first. Lyrics are decently written and the music is good. But... the song loses everything it ever had when "Damaged" is spelled out... "D-A-M-A-G-E-D. Damaged! That's what I am. D-A-M-A-G-E-D. Damaged! That's what I am..." Just terrible. I can't listen to this the whole way through. If it's accidentally on and someone comes in while I'm listening, it is instantly off. Try explaining why BOC is one of your all time favorites and why you're listening to this garbage song. It's like getting caught watching Oprah or Dr. Phil. You'll want to die. This one gets an F as well.

"Cold Gray Light of Dawn" has simple 5th grade lyrics but there is nothing here that destroys the song. Shallow lyrics aren't good, but not necessarily bad either. If you just listen to the music and not what they're saying you won't even notice. This gets a B.

"Real World" is the most unique song on the album. Buck Dharma picks away and the song goes on a leisurely path. I really like this song. It doesn't sound like anything BOC has done (Think "Perfect Water"). It's probably the heavy use of the accoustic guitar. This gets an A.

"Live For Me" is well written and the music is emotion-provoking. The music and lyrics sync at the right parts where if you're reading the words and listening at the same time, you almost feel as if you're there. I love the hard rock that BOC provides, but every once in a while, they treat us with one of these little masterpieces that are beatifully written (like "Astronomy"). This gets an A.

"Still Burning" is one of those songs I don't particularly like or dislike. It's a lukewarm song that you'll never remember. I guess it's a "Part 2" of "Burning For You". The music is fast paced and the stanzas are short. It gets a C.

"In Thee" is a poor remake of the original (and a live version too). The original was a great song. They changed a few parts that throws the song off kilter. Examples: it used to go "Winning, it makes losers of us all, 'cause the dice roll so indifferently." This version has "'cause the dice roll much too easily." And "Love it makes strangers of us all, when we part oh so thoughtlessly." This version has "when we fall oh so thoughtlessly." Some of the lines on this album don't really make sense. I think what really annoys me is that the first time I listened to the album, I knew the lyrics of "In thee" by heart and when I sang along they didn't match. It's frustrating. This gets a C.

So all in all, 6 out of the 11 songs make this album worth buying. You may want to plan on making your own verion of the album by omitting 3,5,6,10,and 11.

Don't make this your first BOC album.

4 out of 5 stars Worth Owning For "See You In Black" and "Harvest Moon" alone........2006-10-24

BOC's first new album in over a decade and a winner it is. The album opens with a bludgeoning "I'd Like To See You In Black" which is pure unadulterated metal. Probably one of the heaviest things BOC has ever recorded. In fact the song could just as easily be Metallica as Blue Oyster Cult, but with it's trademark Eric Bloom howl and twisted lyrics this one is vintage BOC all the way. The line "I'd like to see you in black....it'd make me feel like your husband's dead" is a classic BOC lyric. If radio had given this one a chance it could have been huge. Another highlight of this album is Buck Dharma's "Harvest Moon". I honestly rate this song write up there with the best stuff Buck has written and had it been given a chance by radio I think it could have been as big a hit as "Reaper" was. "Moon" is classic Dharma storytelling all the way with a song about a farm and it's history......or is it.......the song rolls along nice and breezy with a cool guitar solo thrown in as well, but then we get to the last verse the lyrics talk about bodies that wont be found until the snow melts in the spring. The first time I heard it I got to the end of it and had a truly `what the....." moment and had to go back and listen to it again. BOC has always had a knack with turning what appear to be innocent situations into mysterious and macabre outcomes and "Harvest Moon" ranks right at the top of BOC's best works of this nature. Simply stunning. The rest of the album is more hit and miss. Other highlights include "Live For Me", "Power Underneath Despair", and "Cold Grey Light Of Dawn". They even throw on a very nice live acoustic version of "In Thee" from the "Mirrors" album as a bonus track. "Heaven Forbid" is not the best BOC album, but it was a solid comeback after so many years with nothing new and is worth owning for "See You In Black", and "Harvest Moon" alone.

4 out of 5 stars A dependable BOC recording.......2006-02-28

those people who denegrate this recording are comparing it to other BOC offerings. I don't think thats right. It should be compared to the rock recordings of the same time.in the late 90's, what rock CD was better than this one? None. "Harvest Moon" is a great song in the Burning for you vein, and the later live version is even more stunning. there's 2 or 3 other songs that are worthy of the great rock seal of approval as well. it rates a 4. I once owned it, but it was stolen. (at least the thief had good taste)

4 out of 5 stars Great lost album.......2005-09-24

I am an avid follower of BOC and did not know about this cd. This cd was produced during the period that I consider was when BOC were not at their finest. But after playing this album I was surprised that I really liked it. Then the cd grew so much on me by repeated playing that I highly suggest all BOC fans get this great cd. You will not be disappointed. the opening song "See you in Black" is classic old type BOC to me. There are many gems on this cd and I love the last song on this cd which is a live version of the song "In Thee". BOC fans this cd is a must!

5 out of 5 stars A Terrific Sound of Soul!.......2007-05-11

I bought this compact disc because I loved the song, High, not that it has anything to do with getting high. Listening to this compact disc, I find it hard to even think of giving it away. It has a great sound of soul, motivational, and spiritual singing. This music brings you up in the day just as it did when I first heard High. This compact disc does not disappoint but you want more and I don't know why we don't hear much about them. Maybe it's because I listen to CDs instead of the radio. Too many commercials on FM. I'm glad that they kept their style and keep making music. I thought they were gone.

5 out of 5 stars Another Pot Of Briliant Gold.......2007-03-21

Lighthouse Family's second cd 'Postcards From Heaven' could have been called Ocean Drive Part Two or bonus tracks from the Ocean Drive album and it still would be priceless.

I say this because the formula, style and instrumentation remains the same yet is still refreshing and you can never grow tired of this two man band.

For many months, the song 'High', the chart topping single from this cd would make me cry. Tunde's voice is very breezy and earthy, the lyrics are inspiring and hold so much promise and Paul's insrumentation in the background lends it's own magnetism.

'Raincloud' is a bit of a stretch for them, more dance Euro-pop than easy listening but it is an awesome song and I dont know why and I'm not sure I recall seeing the video but the song reminds me of a train speeding past.

'Question Of Faith' is one of my favourite Lighthouse Family songs of all time. Enough said.

'Once In a Blue Moon', 'Let It All Change' and the haunting 'Lost In Space' are slower but very good.

The title track is very good but strangely for me not as strong as the others.

Another winner from one of the coolest duos ever.

5 out of 5 stars High.......2005-08-04

What can I say. Probably one of my favourite albums of all time, along with U2's "The Joshua Tree" and Lene Marlin's "Playing My Game". This album is quality, and as close to perfection as any compilation has, and perhaps will, ever come to.

Smooth vocals, incredible lyrics, and heart-stopping melodies are what this album provides. 'High' and 'Postcard From Heaven' are my personal favourites, although every song is strong here.

Probably one of the most replayable albums I've ever come across, "Postcards From Heaven" is a masterful collection of vocal music. A must have for any fan of music itself.

5 out of 5 stars Aural Postcard From Heaven is Timeless Soul.......2005-06-22

As a huge Spinners fan with an appreciation and deep respect for Seals and Crofts, my jaw dropped when I heard Postcards From Heaven, a near-flawless hybrid of them both, with a dash of Beatles and Blackbyrds sprinkled in for good measure. Every song on this mesmerizing album bears repeated plays. But don't think that this record is merely an exercise in retroactivity; the Lighthouse Family sound is indeed contemporaneous to Seal and especially the Christians (why does it seem there is no reference to that immensely talented combo anywhere on Amazon?) not to mention Jai and the late Ephraim Lewis. One day the Nineties will be rightfully looked upon as a golden era for British soul, and the Lighthouse Family will be as worthy a representative of that revival as any. NOTE: some European pressings of Postcards From Heaven, such as the one I found, do NOT include "Lifted", one of three sizable hits (the others being "Raincloud" and "High").
