Great album-oriented rock album........2003-10-25
First of all I have all of leatherwolf's studio albums, so I have a good feel for their sound. Leatherwolf is a great underground 80's mellodic metal band. The way they combine their three guitars and keyboards sets them apart from other bands. Unlike their previous two self-titled albums (why they did that is beyond me), this album sounds more like arena rock. God, I wish I could've heard them play this in a huge stadium! Anyway, you can play this album from start to finish without having to skip a song. I listen to alot of 80's metal and some 90's metal and there are not too many albums you can do this with besides any Ratt or Motley Crue albums, which are in a league of their own, in my opinion. On Street Ready, there are some faster songs here as well as a couple of gems, namely the ballads: "The Way I Feel," and especially "Lonely Road." There are a couple of songs which are weaker and borderline cheezy, like Street Ready which tries to be "tuff" but isn't, and "Spirits in the Wind" which tries to be spooky or satanic but isn't. Nonetheless they aren't aweful songs if you like 80's hair metal. Taken as a whole, this album is very strong but should nonetheless appeal to any 80's metal fan.
Leatherwolf's third, final, and strongest........2003-04-03
Street Ready is Leatherwolf's third, final, and strongest album. Street Ready is powerful all the way through and is amazing. Sadly the album had poor sales in 1989 and Leatherwolf ended up being dropped from Island Records never to be heard from again, that is until the release of the live album Wide Open in 1999. Even due to poor sales, this outdoes Leatherwolf's two first confusingly self-titled albums.
1) Wicked Ways - A perfect album opener. The opening guitar is is just beyond explaination. This is easily one of the top three songs on the album.
2) Street Ready - One of the weakest, if not the weakest, on the album. Its fast and loud. Average but not great.
3)Hideaway - The best song on the album. Melodic and great. The lyrics are amazing on this track. This one had a music video.
4)Take A Chance - Fast and Furious. Great fast track.
5)Black Knight - Superb Instrumental! Leatherwolf were amazing guitarists, and this proves it!
6)Thunder - Another one of the top 3 songs on the album. This songs just sounds mean.
7)The Way I Feel - One of the weaker tracks, but still great
8)Too Much - Fast and good
9)Lonely Road - Great tune with good lyrics. Michael Oliveieri vocals really stand out here.
10) Spirits In The Wind - Perfect album closer. Melodic and great. Entire album leaves a good impression.
Tools Of Disipline (2003 Re-Master Bonus Track) - Originally only available on the live album Wide Open. The same live version is now available as a bonus track on this release. The reason the track wasn't studio recorded was for the fact is was written after the Street Ready sessions.
Black Jack (2003 Re-Master Bonus Track) - Drum Solo by Dean "Drum Machine" Roberts. Of minor interest to fans.
Alone In The Night (Japanese Pressing Bonus Track)- Also available on the super rare Return of the Living Dead Part 2 soundtrack, this is one of Leatherwolf's best songs! Get this track wereever you can. Its great!

The first album.......2005-01-29
I own the the first leatherwolf album in vinyl. It's pretty good. Season of the witch was the first song I remember listening from Leatherwolf. The album has a wolf on the cover. Now I was looking for it in cd but I am having difficulties find it because is not available anymore. This albulm to me is the best album from Leatherwolf.
Do you want to find out more about Leatherwolf? Log into their web page "leatherwolf.com" and you will see what they're up to. They have a couple of new songs that you can listen to. They are pretty good. If you like Leatherwolf you're gonna dig their new tunes. Check it out!!!
Outstanding Metal!.......2004-08-30
Don't pay attention to the guy that said you would waste your money buying this album, it is awesome! I saw these guys live and this album is there best stuff!! The guitar work shreds and the vocals are sharp, a must have!
This was a really good debut!.......2004-04-07
I first heard about Leatherwolf in RIP magazine back in the 80's and they gave them a great reveiw, but the thing that caught my attention was the fact that the band used 3 guitarists! And I am a huge Creedence Clearwater Revival fan to boot and wanted to hear a metal version of Bad Moon Rising. I picked the disc up and it stayed in my CD player for quite awhile. This is standard 80's Hair Metal through & through. And this debut album is really the only one Leatherwolf put out that is worth looking into. Ironically, the worst song, like a fellow reviewer pointed out, is the CCR cover. Rise and Fall is a great song, and I would love to have seen them play it live. Several of the other songs are catchy as well, but nothing that really stands out. If you like guitar driven rock, this is the CD for you. I wouldn't pay $50 for it though, but if you can find a used copy here for around $10-$15 pick it up.
wow do they suck !!.......2004-01-02
all i have to say is the guy that paid 55 bucks for this cd got screwed soooo bad ! there is almost no talent at all with these guys ! i guess anyone with a dumb ear prolly will love it !
Certainly worth the extra money if you can find one.......2003-10-25
I paid $55 for this album on eBay a couple of years ago from a guy in Germany. Since then it appears it has been re-released, which will give others a chance to learn how good it is at a much lower price. If you are considering their first (1984) self-titled album, this one is far better. In fact, of their three studio albums this one is the best, with Street Ready coming in a close second. Their opener, "Rise or Fall" is an awesome song with some prog-metal elements in it, featuring great guitar work, which is not overdone. The other songs are not prog-metal like in structure. They are more straight, pure 80's metal. "Cry out" is my favorite song, and is better than many 80's songs you hear on the radio. Likewise, the incredible, tremendously moving ballad, "Share A Dream" is in a league with some of the best power-ballads to come out of the 80's PERIOD --- and I mean it compares with Skid Row's "I Remember You," "18 & Life," or Whitesnake's "Is this Love" and the like. Moving on, I like "Magical Eyes" because it is a clever play on words: you can see it as either "Magical Eyes" or "Magical Lies." The only weak songs on the album would be the cover "Bad Moon Rising" and maybe the last song, but overall this album ROCKS.

leatherwolf blows !.......2004-01-02
man after reading these reviews on leatherwolf i would prolly think they were pretty good but after hearing the cd i can honestly say they suck sooo bad i couldnt believe it !! i like more of a progressive edge to music with depth and a lot of talent and thinking behind the music like dream theater , symphony x and so forth ! all i have to say is these people that say leatherwolf is good, really have a dumb ear and dont know what talented music is ! im not here to run anybody down but i cant see sitting here and letting anyone throw away there hard earned money on a band that sounds like stuff me and my band play when were drunk and not even really trying to be serious about anything ! if you truly want a kick ass band , you need to check out any symphony x cd and youll know what i mean !
Leatherwolf is back!.......2001-11-30
I loved leatherwolf in the 80's and even today and I really enjoy their music. I own all their albums on CD, Leatherwolf (1984 Grandslam), Leatherwolf (1987 Island), Street Ready (1989 Island), and yes I even own the ulrtra rare CD soundtrack to the film Return of the Living Dead Part II (1987 Island), which features the Leatherwolf song Alone In The Night, never before available on any of their albums. When I heard they released a Live album, I was reluctant to buy it because I am not a fan of Live music. I decided to anyway just to complete my collection. Plus the CD cover was a little lame. Surprisingly I loved it! Basically the only live CD I love. It even contains songs sung live that were not availble on their first albums. It's great! Leatherwolf fans or even just metal fans, pick yours up today!
Leatherwolf ROCKS!.......2000-06-10
I have been a fan of Leatherwolf since I first saw them back in the late 80s. They are true perveyors of AOR, much like Scorpions or April Wine. I have a fever, and the only cure in MORE Leatherwolf.
Wide Open.......2000-03-09
After years of personally knowing the band Leatherwolf, I will update you all on thier where-abouts...Leatherwolf is playing live again, and still rockin'! They are currently recording a new album and are looking into a US tour at the end of 2000. They recently played at METALFEST 2000 in Germany w/ Dokken, and many other bands. While Leatherwolf's recognition in the US is less than deserved, they are still in mainstream radio play in Euorpe, and Asia. Look for Leatherwolf's forthcoming album with all new tracks, to be the best of the old, and the new.
A poor recording of good material..........2000-02-08
As I have always been a big fan of Leatherwolf's flavor of music, I immediately ordered a copy of Wide Open upon learning of it's availability. Unfortunately, the disc does not live up to my expectations.
For a band that has always been touted as an amazing live act, Leatherwolf do little to sustain that repiutation on Wide Open. While the actual mix is solid, the band is not.
For the most part, the band sounds as if they are struggling to keep up with the original pace of the songs. On other tracks, the back up vocals are so weak, that the songs suffer mightily. Even Michael's once amazing voice shows the effects of age. Most of his trademark high notes are no where to be found on this disc.
Throughout the course of the CD, the band sounds as if years have passed since they played these songs (and that just may be the case).
None the less, I sincerely hope that these guys get back into the studio and put something fresh out. I also hope that some record company somewhere re-releases their first two offerings.

Yet Another Version to Choose From of the Same Bad CD!.......2007-05-26
This European version must be special, because it costs more than the other Euopean version for sale (but less than the Japanese version). It doesn't matter which one you buy, you'll be getting the same generic power metal that doesn't do the band justice. If you liked the original singer, you won't like this one. If you liked the bands power-background vocals, you'll find little to like here, as they have all but disappeared. If you have never heard of Leatherwolf before.......do you really want to pay an import price to experiment? Didn't think so.
A Full On Metal Classic!.......2006-11-03
I was a little skeptical about Leatherwolf putting out a new cd without Michael Olivieri, Carey Howe and Paul Carman...that line-up had magic running through their fingers!
All of my reservations were completely tossed out the window when I heard the new cd. While Wade Black has a distinctly different vocal style that MO, he fits right in and nails it! Geoff Gayer's guitar playing is some of the best he has ever done....Dean's drumming is fantastic....Pete Perez is amazing, as well.
The songs are killer! There are no filler tracks on this cd. Just in-your-face metal, with enough of a progressive style to keep things interesting. I'm looking forward to the next release!
Heavy Metal Past and Present........2006-09-08
I bought this CD about 4 weeks before their show in San Antonio and I fell in love at first listen. "I am the Law" starts out hard and heavy. Wade Black's voice and Geoff Gayer's guitar were a union to be admired. Their stage presence is raw. They provide rock -n- roll with heavy rhythm. "King of the Ward" is a beautiful psychotic melody that fits in to today's definition of rock. "Disconnect" nice, hard and furious. "Dr. Wicked" evil but yet so true. "Institutions", you can't help but feel the mental anguish Wade puts forth vocally. Wade is so passionate about this release you will fall in love with him all over again. This piece of music you can play again, and again. I promise you, it will not dissapoint the true rocker!

NOT HOW I REMEMBERED THEM.......2006-08-17
For their "comeback" album, there are only 2 original members. The original vocalist supposedly sings background vocals, but they make no impact.
The classic Leatherwolf guitar sound is intact through most of the songs. The songwriting as a whole, however, is not up to par. Gone are the memorable harmonies and power background vocals that made this band so special with "Leatherwolf" and "Street Ready". The new vocalist sounds a little like Mark Slaughter, but with bad songs to sing.
To be fair, I'm not sure this band even wants to embrace their past, but over-zelous record executives are quick to slap stickers on CDs such as this that get consumers to wax nostalgic about "The Return of the Los Angeles Power-Metal Band". Such a statement promises nothing, but hints at a lot.
Without knowing the band's past, this is very passable power metal, but nothing special or different from the many bands out there right now.

(1993 / indie / Germany) Brilliant debut from one of the most overlooked heavy metal bands of the 90s, Harrow. Fans of Leatherwolf/Pretty Maids influenced style fist-pumping metal of groups like Kage / Chroming Rose (early) / Letter X / look no further than this brilliant debut from Harrow. Featuring a lead singer who's voice soared as high as legends like Kiske and Tate- and a killer harmony double axe attack that would impress fans of Marshall Law- this CD lacks nothing. Out of print.

I wrote a review for the European import, so I'm putting a warning in here. You can get 10 mediocre songs that sound nothing like they used to for 20-something dollars from Europe, or for 30-something dollars, you can get 11 of these songs from Japan. Just say bonus track? Just say pass.

what do you get when you cross Yngwie with early Bon Jovi?.......2005-07-24
If you are researching the different styles of 80's metal, this album will take you somewhere you haven't been. First of all, they are the only band I can remember featuring three guitarists: each have something to offer. The band has a full sound - over the top in a good way. This album along with Street Ready (the follow-up) are reminiscent of a cross between Yngwie Malmsteen's Trilogy and Bon Jovi's 7800 fahrenheit. How is this possible? Leatherwolf bridges a gap between what was radio-friendly and what could be considered metal at it's lightest (think Bon Jovi's Tokyo Rose). Similar bands are Banshee, Barron Cross, and Cold Sweat. I got into them because I wasn't yet ready for the heavier Slayer/Exciter types but needed to expand beyond the mainstream glam rockers (poison, ratt, cinderella). The musical integrity is there and unlike Malmsteen, I can still crank those keyboard parts (Princess of Love intro especially) without flinching. I love the record. The Calling was the first I'd heard of them. It's very non-rock anthem yet catchy. Share a Dream is a great love song (the chick flick of metal ballads). Gypsies and Theives is an excellent rock-out jam followed by a fantastic cover of CCR's Bad Moon Rising. (No, it's not exactly like the original, it is the 80's metal version and does the song justice in that regard - Think Motley Crue's Helter Skelter). Princess of Love, Magical Eyes, and Rule the Night are a non-stop power push to the end: exposing all their talent in a whirlwind of 80's glam sound at it's best. I give it four stars only because I know that some will not stand for the keyboards or the overall airy-ness of their layered vocal sound (which, I think, is amazing cranked up). Despite the sound of their name they are no Iron Maiden nor Dio. They have a style like no other and would best relate to musicians or those not trying to be "Hard" all the time. If you're looking for a good band who writes solid lyrics, is excellent in arranging complex guitar parts, and has overall good musicianship with the soul of the 80's glam sound, these are your guys. Enjoy.
their heaviest and their best.......2004-07-13
I own the 5-song EP version of this album (from which the LP is culled), and I just recorded it to CD this weekend. Having not listened to it in several years, I forgot just how GREAT this album is. It's much heavier than their other albums, and the songs are great.
(I own a couple of their other albums, but those other ones always struck as very "average". They weren't particularly BAD, but they weren't particulary GOOD, either.)
This one, their first, really gets the blood pumping. It's greatly enjoyable.
Leatherwolf's debut - very album oriented.......2003-10-25
First of all, the original release is 1984 not 1986. This album is not as solid as Leatherwolf's other albums, but you can still play it without having to fast forward or skip any songs. One of the problems with this album is I think they try too hard to promote a tuff guy / death metal image on this album which does not go over too well. "The Hook" is my favorite song on the album. It is not a ballad, just a straight metal song with a good begining. The "Leatherwolf" song features some really cool guitar work in the middle which is very unique in all of my experience listening to the heavy metal/ glam metal genres. Most of the songs on the album are okay -- there are no standouts and no weak points. As much as I like leatherwolf (the band, that is), I would not recommend this album to start but I would go straight onto their self-titled 1987 release which is better produced and worlds better.

Reveiw for Leatherwolf 1984 album Wolf Cover.......2003-04-03
Leatherwolf, confusingly, has two self-titled albums. The first one was released in 1984 and has a wolf cover, and teh second was released in 1987 and features the band on the cover. Both albums are completely different and feature different track listings. Why Leatherwolf did this, I will never know. This is the review of their 1984 album. Their first album was all guitars, unlike their other two albums which featured synthesizers and keyboards. Theirs first album is good but is by far their weakest studio album
1) Spiter - Great album opener. Fast and Hard
2) Engandered Species - Another fast and hard song. Not great but good
3) Tonight's The Night - Ok tune. Leatherwolf is cabable of much more though.
4) The Hook - One of the best tunes on the CD. It's mean and good. SWALLOW THE HOOK!
5) Season of the Witch - This is teh best song on the album. very melodic.
6) Off The Track - One of the weaker tracks. Again great but good
7) Kill And Kill Again - Awsome tune. Its amazing that Leatherwolf can sing a song called Kill And Kill Again and then turn around and do Princess Of Love on their second album. Now thats diversity.
8) Vagrant - The weakest track on the album. Just dirivitive of the previous songs.
9) Leatherwolf - Good ablum closer, fast and hard.
Alone In The Night (2003 Re-Master Bonus Track) - Why they released this song as a bonus track on this album is beyond me since they it was made during Leatherwolf's second album. What's even more rediculous is that they released a live version of The Hook as a bonus track on Leatherwolf 1987? I think they must have got the bonus tracks switched around. Anyway, this is one of Leatherwolfs best songs ever! I mean it. Well worth the hunt for!
