Math wiz and multi-instrumentalist John Ondrasik's third album under his rather misleading Five For Fighting rubric shows that he's lost little of the cranky ire that he unleashed on American Town, but this time his targets are a little closer to home. He skews faithless friends and bad habits on the tetchy opening track "NYC Weather report," oddly borrowing from both Guns N' Rose's "Paradise City," and Barbara Streisand's "People" to hammer his ornery point home, before training his sights on the human life span, fleeting relationships, and even Disneyland. But it isn't until "Girlfriends and Angels," that he shows his real brilliance, imagination and grit; Ondrasik finds the exact place where the Beach Boys intersects with the Velvet Underground and plants himself in that spot, spewing out his own hard won romantic philosophies, proving once again that the hunter does indeed get captured by the game. More ribald, sonically inventive, and lyrically edgy, The Battle For Everything, shows that Ondrasik's combative days may be behind him. --Jaan Uhelszki

The Battle for Everything Five for Fighting.......2007-03-18
Excellent. Sounds are good. The best cd he made. Worth the money.
Very good! John is amazing!.......2007-03-09
Enjoyable to watch John grow in his work and passions...........
trying to believe.......2007-03-05
Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik seems finally to have got over himself and down to the business of singing about life. The result is a splended CD called, enigmatically, 'The Battle for Everything.' It promises to endure as a mile marker in his career, to say nothing of the annals of good listening.
The album's opener, 'NYC Weather Report', fairly lilts. Ondrasik's irony seems less bent on anger venting than on description of life as a stranger, one passing through with wistful memories of places and relationships that failed but somehow cast their expectation forward into destinations that await the end of this moment in the journey. Back, yet somehow forward, to New York City.
The man can also sing a mean love song. Shades of Sting's lyricism haunt 'If God Made You':
'Hey Kid .. Your time has come to change
Though I need you more than I've needed anyone in any way tonight
Hey Kid ... I know it won't be long
The Captain's calling .. come to see you back where we belong
Something inside me is breaking
Something inside says there's somewhere better than this ...
Sunset sailing on April skies
Bloodshot fire coulds in her eyes
I can't say what I might believe
But if God made you he's in love with me'
Ondrasik places the chord transition exactly where it releases the listener's attentive energy. The man can score a song.
Then comes the high-air-play '100 Years', a wistful survey of live's brevity that conjures up Cat Stevens, John Mellencamp, and Billy Joel. Ondrasik stands up just fine in such company. It's a tune made for hearing over and over again, then once more.
'Dying' underscores Ondrasik's thickening credentials as a baladeer of lost love, though hardly with the campiness that such a description might suggest. It sounds real, not postured. Ondrasik has been criticized, of course, for the latter. This album should in part quiet that angle of criticism.
In my judgment, the balance of anger with deeper and more varied sentiments, together with Ondrasik's growth as a writer, make THE BATTLE FOR EVERYTHING his first five-star offering. One feels confident it will not be his last.
Five for Fighting-The Battle for Everything.......2007-02-25
I love this CD! I am 55 yrs old and have heard a lot of music; but I can safety say this music is in my top 5.
A Winner!.......2006-12-08
I've listened to this CD for over 2 years now and it still never fails to move me with the thought-provoking lyrics, passionate music and wonderful production. Also, the DVD version is awesome! This is a timeless CD and well worth the money.

On his third disc, the one-man musical marvel known as Five for Fighting proves yet again that all that's standing between him and peace of mind--not the fleeting kind, but full-on, to-the-bone, heart-and soul-cleansing peace of mind--is a song. Two Lights picks up where America Town left off, diving smack-dab into the national consciousness and hitting, predictably, a sorrowful spot. First track "Freedom Never Cries" is a self-skewering lament that calls out to complacent countrymen by way of confession and an artful, piano-enhanced weighing of consequence. It's followed by "World," which reminds unpreachily, and not unpleasantly, that "history starts now." Where Two Lights better resembles 2004's hugely successful The Battle for Everything is in its more inward-looking tracks, the tender first single "The Riddle" among them. There, and on the near criminally pretty "I Just Love You," the mush-hearted may find themselves fighting the urge to hug the closest stranger. But despite his now-dependable dips into mopiness, John Ondrasik--Five for Fighting to you and the rest of the world--doesn't deny himself the opportunity to rock when he wants to. If anything makes this guy happy, it's the state of California: on "California Justice," he kicks off his shoes and works on his tan like a latter-day Beach Boy from the dark side, and "'65 Mustang" rambles down the coast with the kind of carefree vibe that, outside of a song, only a convertible can deliver. --Tammy La Gorce

Must Have CD.......2007-07-24
This CD has so many beautiful songs. Just sit back and enjoy with someone you love!
Freedom Never Cries !!!.......2007-07-16
I love this cd!!! Freedom never cries has so much patriotism in it for america!! Is it me or does he like mustangs? He refers to cars in his music almost as much as Bruce Springsteen does.
Unexpected.......2007-07-07
I finally bought this CD after hearing The Riddle a long time ago on the radio. I loved that song and so I was really excited when I finally got around to buying the CD. I went home and put it on my ipod right away, but I ended up being dissapointed by a lot of the songs. Some of the songs were good like The World, but none of them were really like The Riddle, so I suggest that if you are considering buying the CD for that one song, DONT! Just go and download it online (leagally please^_^) because most likely, (if you're like me at least) you wont like the rest of the CD as much as the one song.
As good as in concert.......2007-05-30
The whole cd was awesome!! The songs that were sung at his concert from the cd, were just as good live as they were on the cd. One of the few performers who don't lose anything from cd to concert. I have friends that have listened to the cd and love it as well. They have now gone out and bought their own copies for Five for Fighting.
Outstanding!.......2007-05-12
Great cd! Just saw Five for Fighting in concert three nights ago. Excellent.

As fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy know, each film exists in two versions: the theatrical one and the extended one that appeared on DVD. This luxurious box set--which also comes with a detailed essay on the movie's musical themes--features the full extended score, so many cues not on the CDs of the individual movies are included. Granted, the majority of listeners will be perfectly happy with the shorter versions of the scores--it's a safe bet that most people can live without hearing, say, Ian McKellen's 35-second-long ditty "The Road Goes Ever On" at the beginning of "Bag End," or Viggo Mortensen's performance of his own composition, "The Song of Lúthien," within the track "The Nazgûl." But if you're a completist and/or a devotee of Howard Shore's pounding tympani and overwhelming choral compositions (featured particularly prominently on disc 3, a large chunk of which is devoted to a battle scene), then this set is a dream come true. Audiophiles should note that the fourth disc, a DVD, offers the score in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Fire up those speakers so the whole shire can hear. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2007-06-15
I picked up this set because I am both a LOTR fan, movies and books and I need music to help me work. There are some tracks that I skipped over, like the short little ditties in the bar, but many of the songs, such as the Elvish chants are easy to get lost in - its just too bad they don't last longer. The packaging really is well done, though the DVD disc was loose when I received it in the mail, but unharmed. I will have to wait until the price on the second set comes down a little more, but I can't wait for ROTK.
Awesome.......2007-06-12
This is by far the editon to get if you loved the lord of the rings soundtrack. It has every song on it from the extended edition. and the DVD-A version is very nice.
Excellent Music tracks from Movie.......2007-05-03
Brings the movie back as you listen to the full version of the track.
Complete?.......2007-04-07
This CD collection is wonderful; it has much of the material from the movie that was only included in the extended edition DVD, but it is far from complete. While it does have the complete version of "The Passing of the Elves" and two versions of "The Road Goes Ever On", many of the songs are highly incomplete and inferior to the originals. "Aniron," the theme for Aragorn and Arwen performed by Enya, is incomplete and the lyrics are hard to match to what is being sung. The sound quality for this song is even worse on the accompanying DVD, which is supposed to have all of the music in "superior sound". The song "Prophecy" is reduced to two barely-audible lines and "May It Be" is shortened and different than the original. $60 for this when there are more complete songs on the original soundtrack is ridiculous.
Great Collection, Poor Packaging.......2007-04-03
I realy can't add to what others have said about this set, the music is simply the best LOTR soundtrack collection out there! It is all here, and the contents of this set will make any LOTR fan happy and the music DVD is a great one disc addition if you want to hear the entire score in one sitting (to which I have done a number of times already).
My only complaint is the somewhat flimsy cardboard box that houses the contents of this musical treasure. Mine came damaged, and considering the price, I expected better packaging. This is a minor quabble on my part and NO, I havent returned it due to the fact that the music itself Is what I truly treasure, It just would have been nicer to have recieved it undamaged.

Five for Fighting is actually just one guy with a rather substantial chip on his shoulder who's taken his name from the amount of time a hockey player spends in the penalty box for fighting. Los Angeles native and erstwhile prodigy John Ondrasik really knows his way around a melody, bolstering it with a dramatic sense of timing and rhythm like a more modern and hipper Elton John. And that defiant chip does makes for powerful poetry, although oftentimes he sacrifices logic and clarity for the sake of iambic pentameter. While "Superman" is a catchy affair about the restrictions of being superhuman and the desire to belong ("I'm only a man in a silly red sheet looking for special things inside me"), it's doubtful that anyone who ever read a DC comic would believe that Superman would ever be "digging for kryptonite on this one-way street," since a loose fragment from Superman's home planet might turn him into a blubbering infant or a giant ant. At best, Five for Fighting follows in the narrative-based path paved by Counting Crows. --Jaan Uhelszki

Five For Fighting Reign Victorious!.......2007-06-20
Five For Fighting signed with Columbia Records and released "America Town" on September 26, 2000. "America Town" went virtually unnoticed for more than a year after its release until the melodically soaring "Superman (It's Not Easy)" was adopted as the anthem for the heroes who emerged in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Ondrasik's high pitched, emotive voice atop songs portraying genuine heartfelt messages make for a formidable opponent in any battle. The only flaw contained in this album shows up in the form of a song entitled "Michael Jordan." Below, please find the rating for each song individually:
Easy Tonight - 10/10
Bloody Mary (A Note On Apathy) - 10/10
Superman (It's Not Easy) - 10/10
America Town - 9/10
Something About You - 9/10
Jainy - 10/10
Michael Jordan - 3/10
Out Of Love - 7/10
The Last Great American - 8/10
Love Song - 7/10
Boat Parade - 7/10
Alright - 8/10
Do You Mind? {Hidden Track} - 4/10
America Town FFF at its best.......2007-05-16
I have all of the FFF Cd's, and am a huge fan, but I must say that America Town is my favorite. I think if you have not bought any of FFF Cd's before and are wondering which to buy you will not go wrong with this.
America Town Five for Fighting.......2007-03-18
Good. Different from the first cd. Songs are good. Superman is also on the cd. Worth the money.
Sensational.......2007-03-12
Five for Fighting with their opera trained lead singer has a gift for bringing it on. Even the most mundane of songs are intriguing due to the vocals.
Great CD.......2006-02-17
Definatly worth it! All of the songs are great, but several in particular are very catchy. My favorite is Michael Jordan. If you like the sounds of groups like the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Moby, etc. you'll love this CD.

fighting temps soundtrack.......2007-01-14
this cd was off the hook! it was exactly like the movie [which i loved & watch quite often] so i could be inspired whether working or playing. ALL of the artists were great in their own rights. i just can't get enough of their wonderful songs & lyrics. ALL of the music was done so well and is truly inspirational!!! thanks for making this one available for musical [movies/plays] lovers like myself. this was well worth the money spent. thanks much...
It was a case of love at first bar!.......2006-12-17
I was actually watching the film for this when I got hooked on it ... so I went to the website, listened to some sample tracks and decided it would be a good buy.
It was.
Very Very Good.......2006-11-03
I listen to this product alsmost everyday. And amazon sent it very fast. Short and sweet I know.
Just great music!.......2006-01-13
This music is a blessing for my heart and my ears. I can't remember enjoying a soundtrack that much since "The Preacher's Wife" was released. Sure, "The Fighting Temptations" is musically much more up-to-date. There is some traditional gospel like Shirley Caesar's and Ann Nesby's songs and great contemporary gospel by Beyonce, Angie Stone and the others. There is also some great so-called secular stuff. In fact, there isn't a song I wouldn't enjoy. The album is really uplifting. I can't get enough of this music ;-)
And the film ... well, it's just a simple story about essential things: what it means to be a Christian, what Christianity is really about and how great it is to give glory to God.
Both the film and the soundtrack are higly recommended, to my mind.
This is a really good fun catchy album.......2005-11-19
especially if you saw the movie, you can visualize the song performances which were great, with Cuba's hilariously frenetic thrashing about (directing) through every performance. Its got great inspiring Gospel mixed with some good ol fashioned devils music.

the second with Robertson/Ghorham.......2007-05-12
This record is very good, I don't like the song Rosalie, for me Phil do his best with his music, the high moment of this cd: two songs, for those who love to live, and suicide.
Has the most twin guitar attacks of all.......2005-12-25
This one does have the most twin guitar attacks of all thin lizzy albums. They are all catchy and rocking specially the tracks " To those who love to live", " Suicide", " Wild One". If you enjoy those harmonies with Gorham and Robertson then this is the one for you. Other songs are super catchy like " Silver Dollar" You will not go wrong too with " Rosalie" . A very pop oriented catchy song plus another tune titled "Freedom Song" which is just awesome with Phil sounding so good on the vocals.
All in all still a very balanced album. You got the rocking tunes, the guitar harmonies which is really the focus and the catchy pop songs. I've had this album for a long time and it is just now that I realized that this has got to be the finest among all the albums. Just try to play all your Lizzy albums one at a time and you will see what I am talking about. This is how this band really sounds like.
Don't Judge This Book By Its Cover.......2005-12-20
Thin Lizzy is extremely easy to overlook and therefore dismiss. As recently as two months ago, I only knew Thin Lizzy for "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back In Town". Even the band's name itself is the punchline of many a joke about 1970s rock. Too bad. Those who laugh are missing out on the music of one of rock and roll's very best.
For whatever reason, the voluminous musical output of Thin Lizzy is fast disappearing from the public eye. This would be a major mistake, one that I myself am finally rectifying after many years. While there are several more Lizzy albums for me to explore, let me share my knowledge of "Fighting" with you, the Amazon reader/consumer.
Released in 1975, about six months before the band achieved massive success, "Fighting" is simply a straight-up, no-holds-barred, get-in-the-car-and-crank-the-jams album. This is a CD with no weaknesses, just ten rock classics that sadly border on obscurity.
Right now my favorite song is "Suicide", with its blistering, Irish-jig style guitar solos from Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson. However, last week my favorite tune was the soulful, heartfelt "Wild One", featuring the impassioned vocals of one of the all-time greats in Philip Lynott. Next week it will probably be another song, maybe their driving version of Bob Seger's "Rosalie". This album is that good.
I read comparisons of present-day rock bands like the Hold Steady to Thin Lizzy, and quite frankly that is the most ludicrous comparison in rock. Thin Lizzy rocked and they had a serious attitude, one borne of hard years on the back roads of Ireland honing their craft. The lyrics here are not your average Led Zep foppish tales of gothic doom and mountains. They're very personal and hard-earned. The years of obscurity while watching lesser bands make bigger names for themselves had to have angered Lynott. Not only that, but some lyrics make clear that perhaps Lynott regarded himself as one of his biggest adversaries. Yet the music has a total energy, almost celebrating the strength he had gained from his trials. You're not going to find this kind of soul-searching on any Eagles song.
No doubt they looked with scorn on some of those "lighter" sounds that were gaining fame and fortune during the time. You can hear it in "Ballad of a Hard Man", which really IS the best song on the album. Here, Lynott isn't just telling you about his pain -- he's showing you:
"I've been mixed up, cut up so sit down and shut up
'Cause I'm a hard man
I was hung up, strung out but I can't take no more junk
Even if you can"
Hard words, set over basic, pulsating, and unforgiving guitar riffs. Did Thin Lizzy blaze any new music trends with "Fighting"? No. But did they rock honestly and without pretense? Absolutely yes. Sure, they were trying to be rock stars, but on their own terms. Even if it meant keeping their fan base within a certain radius. If we're going to bring back some of rock's 70s music into the national consciousness, let's at least bring back the good stuff!
Why is this album and band so overlooked?.......2005-10-21
I have to agree with the one reviewer who refered to this album and band as being "criminally overlooked". Most people only know them from their main US hit "The Boys Are Back In Town", but Phil and the boys have put out so much great rock music, it does seem a crime to ignore the rest of their incredible catalog. Mr. Lynott's soulful vocals are absolutely some of the finest in rock history. By this time the dual guitar attack of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson were in full swing, as were the on point drumming stylings of Brian Downey. While I love all the previous albums by this great band, this was the first where everything just clicked (although I do love Night Life). I'm no Seger fan, but the opener of his "Rosalie" is a great rock moment. After which comes some of Lizzy's finest compositions. Highlights include the heartfelt "Fighting My Way Back", the upbeat "King's Vengeance", and the incredible rocker "Ballad of a Hard Man". If you love classic, soulful hard rock, this album is a no-brainer: just do it.
Almost a classic album!.......2005-07-22
I would like to say this is a classic but it's a little short.
I like the album and of course there as some great classic
Lizzy songs but the slower ones lacked from production and
could've been better. I still rate it as a great rock
album from one of the greatest rock bands of all time and
it's still a must have.

FIGHTING THE WORLD INDEED.......2007-05-13
Excellent album and as far as I can tell, one of Manowar's best. Every track gets the blood pumping with fury. The stand outs are Fighting The World, Holy War and Black Wind, Fire And Steel. Defender is a nice track with Orson Welles lending his booming voice to the triumph and the glory. If you love true metal, and you don't own this album, than get it now!
Beginning of the decline.......2006-12-13
It is sad to see that almost every reviewer rates this album either 5 or 1 stars, both of which are totally undeserved. Let's try to put "Fighting the World" in the perspective of Manowar's entire career and give it a rating that is not blinded by emotions or nostalgia.
Basically, this was supposed to be Manowar's great breakthrough album, as the boys were carried by a major record company for the first time. All the macho theatrics about "true metal" aside, this was also clearly the most commercially sounding album by Manowar up to that point. It succeeded in reaching a larger audience but failed to make a really big impact in the US market. And so began the decline of Manowar as power metal's number one act, and in fact the decline of power metal as a serious genre (see also the later albums of Helloween, Virgin Steele), before bands like Blind Guardian, Hammerfall and Therion somewhat restored its reputation.
Let's now turn to the music. There are some great melodies on this album, but these are often spoiled by an "MTV-friendly" sound and a very simplistic approach (which became the main characteristics of Manowar from this album onwards). The opening singalong-chant of Carry On already foreshadows the kind of ridicule that would culminate in later Manowar "hits" such as "Hail and Kill" and "The Sons of Odin".
If only they had recorded the title track, "Carry On", and "Holy War" in a less commercial fashion, and combined them with one or two more songs of the calibre of "Black Wind, Fire and Steel" (the only truly classic song on the album), instead of making idiotic attempts at hit-writing like "Blow Your Speakers". Then they would have had an album equally good as those that Manowar will be rightly remembered for ("Hail to England" and "Battle Hymns"). Alas, this was not to be, and so my advice regarding this album is to download "Black Wind, Fire and Steel" on your mp3 player, and to stay away from the album as a whole.
The first time I heard a band and liked them instantly..........2006-04-19
This was the first albumn I heard from ManOWar, with Black Wind Fire and Steel astonishing me with such technical excellence. The whole ManOWar experience turned out to be great, creating an atmosphere with the music, just as they intended for the listener.I just had to have it. It felt amazing to have it on CD at the time too (and was the best produced CD I had at the time too). Whilst Suicidal Tendencies have to be the best for thrash, ManOWar come a close second. The vocal are incredible, the pace charging you like a battery, and it makes no excuses for what it is, 'it does what is says on the tin'.
Oh, and make sure you get 'Sign of the Hammer', be a shame to miss out on Guyana and Thor.
The best album of Manowar.......2006-02-24
Fighting the world, Defender. It's the kind of old and good heavy metal we deserve. Guitar riffs that are very agressive and kill our brains while listening....from a brazilian fan since 1984.
I admit it...I love this album.......2006-01-22
Ok, I realize many will think I'm trapped in my angry adolescence for owning, let alone liking this CD. But if any inch of you enjoys good old-fashioned hard rock then this CD is for you. These guys on the surface seem over the top...but they can play, sing/scream, and write some really good hard rock. There is no glam metal with these guys... no "baby, baby love me" crap; no Manowar takes an almost operatic and sometimes militant approach to their music. It is heavy with a capital H and bigger than life. Defender with narration by Orson Wells is great anthem. Blow Your Speakers is great fun. Production on this CD is ahead of its time- it sounds great for an '80s recording. It is also great music for lifting and working out.

At some indeterminate point in their now 25 year long history and with serenely inconspicuous efficiency, Birmingham's UB40 rose to a level of peerlessness as the first-family of British reggae. While they've absolutely nothing left to prove--save to those bored by their longevity--Who You Fighting For finds UB40 shouting more loudly than usual; the likelihood being - even at this autumnal stage of the band's career--that less partisan ears may be pricked by such refreshing spices as the Bhangra chorus of "Reasons" or even by more traditional summer reggae sweeteners as "Gotta Tell Someone" or the dark, philanderer-reformed ruminations of "One Woman Man". But the real reason why UB40 are raising their voices is Iraq, possibly the most upset they've been about anything since Maggie's iron grip on the keys of Number 10. While having the brass to call one tune "War Poem" doesn't bode well, UB40 reach for the shrewd invective on "Sins Of A Father", a well-written censure of Christian neo-Conservatism and oil lust. Sensibly, the lean skin-and-bone production and avoidance of MOR blandishments make UB40 seem meaner and younger than they have done in years. --Kevin Maidment
Album Description
With a winning sound fusing reggae with both pure pop and topical politics, UB40 has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Twentyfive years down the road from their groundbreaking debut LP Signing Off, the eight-man British reggae supergroup is still at the top of their game with the new album Who You Fighting For?. Weaving together the band's revolutionary roots and pop sensibilities, their latest is among the best, delivering originals including the title track, "Sins of the Fathers," and "One Woman Man" alongside a handful of irresistible covers, in grand UB40 tradition.
Customer Reviews:
A great popular reggae band throws down a great album.......2007-05-26
It's hard to believe UB40 has been around nearly 30 years and still sound so fine. They have written several fantastic songs here, and covered a few other great ones. This is get-up-and-dance reggae, sing-along reggae, reggae of love, protest, and philosophy; beautiful stuff. Every song has good lyrics (some great) and every song sounds like a hit.
This is probably their greatest album ever, and I have them all.
Don't miss it.
(also available as an import with a DVD)
A Step Back, Though Not Much of a Step Forward.......2006-09-02
Besides the politically focused lyrics the beats, rhythms, synths, horns etc....feel luke warm and familiar. There is not a single track on here that sounds like an anthem. The songs start at a mid level tempo and stay there for the duration of the track.
UB40's earlier works were most noteworthy for a song to go through multiple phases of progression, leading to dynamite "crescendo's" featuring synth solos or horn solos, choruses that made you want to sing! In terms of production UB40's earlier works are a goldmine of multidimensional richly layered tunes.
The production is totally lacking on this album.
On this album you will find the simple "one" "two" "one" "two" piano rhythm (on almost every track!), coupled with very basic(bland) & repetitive bass rhythms. The Sax is here, though it never shines.
Though if you are a fan of UB40's more toned down late 90's to present sound, this album probably will not dissapoint you. Because even though the songs on this album are not bad, they just are not that good.
Furthermore, in light of this album being toted as UB40 "getting back to its roots"....do not be fooled.
Simply put this album lacks the energy of their earlier works.
If you are interested in UB40 check out the following albums for some of the best Reggae period. Listed in order from heavy dub influence to more progressive/cross genre influenced works; 1980-1983, Present Arms, Signing Off, Geofrey Morgan, Labour of Love, Labour of Love II.

No bad tracks but no standouts either.......2006-07-02
When I found out that UB40 did this album I was initially skeptical because I was unimpressed with all their cross-over stuff from back when. On the reviews here at amazon, I decided to buy it and give it a try. Thankfully, the whole CD is really true reggae and for that I give it 5 stars. I'm not compelled to skip any song on the whole CD which doesn't happen often. You can put it on in the background and just relax with it.
On the other hand, I must say that none of the tracks blew my mind, either. The cover gave me the idea this would be much more of a message CD and instead its full of love and relationship related songs more than anything else. You might say its mostly lovers rockers style. Its mellow and melodic.
This album is perfect for true fans of UB40 but also of true roots style reggae. Its a good CD, but "I'm Not Fooled" will remain my favorite UB40 song of all time. Nothing on this album comes close in my opinion. Still, if you're starved for roots style reggae this is a good bet.
One of their BEST !.......2006-06-11
This is, without a doubt, one of their best albums to date. No bad tracks on the cd. My favorite tracks are: ONE WOMAN MAN, PLENTY MORE, AFTER TONIGHT (please note: the short version is included on the album - not the Extended VERSION which is 1:40 longer, and the better of the two), WAR POEM, WHO YOU FIGHTING FOR?, .....oh hell, the WHOLE ALBUM is friggin fantastic! BTW, saw them in VEGAS and they were unreal! THey are coming back this summer - august 2006 - highly recommend that you go see them LIVE! And GET THE ALBUM!
ANOTHER GOOD ONE FROM UB40.......2006-06-02
As always, another impressive album from UB40. I listen to this c.d.every morning as I commute to work. You would too, if you saw them live in San Diego on March 28th, 2006 promoting "Who You Fighting For". Alot of new sounds and familiar ones too. This album you must buy, especially if you are a "true" UB40 fan. Trust me, you won't get tired of this one.

While the inclusion of novelty songster Weird Al Yankovic (here with "Polkamon") and new-waver all-stars the B-52's (here with the playful "The Chosen One") sharpens the proceedings with their individual visions, most of the performers here have been coached by producer David Foster or other music industry veterans. Most successful is former disco diva Donna Summer, who emerges with the dramatic tune "The Power of One," which sneakily includes the Pokémon theme featured throughout the film. Twelve-year-old Alysha may be a burgeoning teen star with her surprisingly mature interpretation of "Dreams." The emphasis is on the current teen-pop trend. Dream Street, Christian boy band Plus One, and O-Town (the band documented in ABC's TV series Making the Band) all serve up the prescribed recipe for success: swooning harmonies, Hallmark-card lyrics, and near-operatic melodies designed for radio. You expected a movie starring Pokémon to miss a trend? C'mon. --Rob O'Connor

Great for Pokémon fanatics.......2006-02-23
Every song on this CD is great for anyone who loves Pokémon and understands how awesome the games are.
LOUSY.......2006-01-08
I'll review each track:
1. Power of One - First track to use the word "one" in its name. Utterly slow. Hey Donna Summer, what happened to disco? 2/10
2. Dreams - Utterly slow. Hey Alysha, you're two years older than me. 1/10
3. They Don't Understand - Utterly bad. Just so you know, Dream Street is broken up. Thus, no more of their whiny songs like this. 1/10
4. Wonderland - Utterly bad and slow. Hey Angela Via, wrong movie soundtrack. 0/10
5. With All Your Heart - Utterly slow. One of the last ever boy bands. When 2001 ended, boy bands died. 1/10
6. So generic, I don't feel like typing in its name. 0/10
7. Flying Without Wings - Utterly slow. If you want Irish bands, check out the Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly and the Tossers instead. 1/10
8. Pokemon World - Utterly bad. If you're a fan of Youngstown and Nobody's Angel.. you'll still hate this. 0/10
9. Blah Blah Blah - Utterly okay. Who the hell are these people? 4/10
10. Polkamon - Utterly AWESOME! 8/10
11. The Chosen One - Utterly AWESOMER! Also, second track to use the word "one" in its name. 10/10
12. One Heart - Third track to use the word "one" in its title. 0/10
13. One - No, I'm not kidding about this. Its name is "one". 0/10
14. Comin' To - Wow, actual beats. 5/10
15. No. 1/10
16. Legend - Good. 7/10
Grade: 41/160: F-
If you purchase this album, remember to keep tracks 1, 2, 4, 6 and 13 VERY seperated, otherwise, you'll never them them apart. Same for 5, 7, and 14.
Mom and Dad approved.......2005-10-15
My Pokemon-obsessed ten year-old borrowed this CD three times at the library. When the renewals were used up I decided to order it for his collection.
What surprised me about this CD was that the whole family didn't mind listening to it over and over in the car. I have a short tolerance level for Pokemon. But this CD has some strong "power ballads", cute pop tunes and the very entertaining Weird Al Polka (everybody Polka mon-get it?) The song "Blah, Blah, Blah" humorously addresses all of the adults who don't understand the obsession.
The production values are good too. Some children's CD's have second rate orchestrations, digital mastering, etc. This is a professional recording.
I only like one song, the rest sucks!.......2005-09-04
"Polkamon" by Weird Al is the only song I like on any Pokemon album. In fact, I think it is the only thing that has anything to do with Pokemon that I really care about anymore. Well, I'll be honest, the game isn't too bad, but the anime is laughably awful, and don't even get me started on the card game. But anyway, I would love Al to re-release "Polkamon" on some collection of rarities in the future. However, other than that, I can't stand the music on here at all. I used to own it, but I tossed it.
It's OK, but could be better.......2005-09-02
It has less top-notch songs compared with the first CD (Pokemon: The First Movie).
