Magum's finest?.......2003-03-17
Magnum's "Vigilante" is their most commercial sounding album, and it might as well be their finest effort ever. Some would say it's time typical and some will say that it has little in common with the early Magnum. Well, that might be the case but the fact is that this album is very good - strong material, well performed and well produced. Magnum deliver quality rock with a lot of melody from the start to the end. You get rockers as well as ballads, and Magnum have not included a single filler on this solid album. Highly recommended!
Magnum tour de forceý.......2001-04-24
I first heard this album in basic training for the British Army in late 1986, a recruit friend playing this on his tape recorder while doing laundry. I'd never heard of Magnum and thought they were a new group, my friend soon filled me in on what I'd missed.
Now while I like some of the early stuff (Just Like An Arrow & How Far Jerusalem amongst the few), this album is the definitive Magnum album for me. Produced by Roger Taylor of Queen, this album shows the group in true radio-friendly rock mode and the influence of Taylor is clear when you listen to other material. A lot of rock purists are not so hot on this style, but it's the only way I listen to rock so I'm happy. There's not a duff track on this album, even though Magnum didn't get their commercial breakthrough until the follow-up single Start Talking Love a few years later (before sadly fading away again).
Best tracks : Need A Lot Of Love, Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping), When The World Comes Down & Back Street Kid, although the rest are not far behind. Although it's very much an album of it's time, it is still a big player in my house.

Well I am.... I have to say in all honesty.... A true Magnum fan, In the past I followed them all the way to see them perform live and at there very best, which was in my own personal opinion...All the time ! Vigilante is certainly one of Magnum`s finest example`s of good solid heavy rock on any one given Cd ! "Need a lot of Love" is one of there finest along with "Vigilante" of coarse ! And there is also track`s like "Lonely Night" and "Midnight" on there too ! I personally have all Magnum`s Cd`s as I`m so into there genre of music and culture ! I Simply could`nt be without ! But if you like a bit of Live in concert Magnum then i recomend that You get you`re hand`s on Magnum`s "Live" cd !
All encompassing UK music fan - Listz to Leppard.......2000-02-20
I have to say that I'm terribly biased towards Magnum and I make no apology for that but this is surely one of the truly great albums and must rank alongside Bryan Adams' Reckless, Mac's Rumours and the like. From the haunting 'Need a Lotta Love' to the powerful title track and the sublime 'Midnight', this album has the lot. If ever a track was a 'headphones on, volume up and wallow', Midnight is it. 'Midnight' is remixed on Chapter & Verse but was produced by John Taylor ( Queen ) and you can tell - the drumming's up and kills the sax. Forget the 'best of' compilation albums - if you're going to get one Magnum album, get this. I bought this in '86 and even today, it still has pride of place in a CD collection of over 750. Get this and you can keep your lottery ticket in it - you'll always know where it is.

Hector and Willie at their peaks!.......2002-01-22
...if you are an avid Hector Lavoe and Willie Colon fan, this CD is a must.
Ok, so it only has 4 songs and only 3 are sung by Hector.
Is a CD rated by how many songs it has? I think NOT!
The CD is one of the best ones recorded by Hector and Willie with the proven 2 trombone sound Willie perfected thoughout the years.
Juanito Alimaña is the hardest hitting song ever recorded by Hector and Willie. No other can compare!
Triste Y Vacia is also a great tune.
Paso La noche Fumando is sung a duo by Hector and Willie. A slow paced montuno, kind of like a song you would sing with a drinking buddy after hours....
Vigilante is an eclectic salsa composition sung by Willie Colon with a full orchestra. It is a composition no other salsa musician can pull off.
Yes, you can get the other Lavoe albums, but no Lavoe collection is complete without Vigilante!
good cd.......2001-09-28
I am writing this review because I saw that someone gave a 2 stars to this cd. The only problem with this cd is that it only has four songs and only two are bloody good. even if it only had Juanito Alimaña, the cd is worth it because Juanito Alimaña is a clasic song that you just can't find in other cds.
Not a highpoint.......2001-04-15
Unfortunately, Willie Colon's best recordings are not as readily available. This one looks good, as the pairing of Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe is a good one; however, the tunes just aren't that good. What can you do? Look for the compilation "Crime Pays" or some of their earlier recordings like "El Malo". Check out "El Juicio". Avoid this one, unless you're an incorrigible completist.

Customer Reviews:
about time.......2004-10-19
A new release featuring the soundtrack music of Roy Budd is a LONG time overdue, sspecially with current djs and producers like Thunderball, Karminsky Experience, Second Sky, Bobby Hughes, Troublemakers, Chris Joss, etc... making music that points back to this style of funky, eclectic cinematica.
These tracks are mostly original recordings, but there are also some remixes by Bobby Hughes (its great!) and Karminsky Experience (actually not musch different than the original, just some added bass guitar.)
The tracks on this CD represent the best years of Budd's career. However, some of the song choices seem odd. I'm suprised that the focus wasn't more on stricktly funky tracks. The ENTIRE "Diamonds" sountrack is incredible, and a few great cuts from "The Stone Killer" were omitted in favor of some slightly lesser choices here. I suggest picking up those to OSTs first.
An release of all-remixes would be a great thing too. But in the mean time, this is a great tribute to my personal favourite of soundtrack composers.
Treat yourself.......2004-09-27
This CD of gem soundtracks by Roy Budd (I hadn't heard of him previously either) has some great updates and edits by recent house/lounge/jazz DJs and producers. Action-filled chase scene music, 70s soul tunes ("Love is a Four Letter Word") and a variety of the most energetic & coolest music you ignored while watching some great films. The "Get Carter" theme is alone worth the price of entry, and is why I bought it.
With first-class studio musicians, interspersed with a little dialogue from the films, you can almost smell the 'Hai Karate'.
Thoroughly recommended cool sounds.

Heartfelt Folk.......2007-01-08
I remember listening to Carl Vigilante on the outdoor deck at the Rogue River Brewery in Ashland, Oregon over a decade ago. Carl sings with an honesty and purety that is heart-warming, even without the strong lager.
This album contains a collection of Carl's best songs. The instrumentation and vocalizations are easy on the ear and several of the tunes will get stuck in your head in a pleasant way. My favorites are "Morning of my life" and "Oregon Rain".
A great listen.
