Amazon.com essential recording
The third album Cat Stevens put out in a 15-month burst that began in the summer of 1970 with Mona Bone Jakon, Teaser and the Firecat is where the enigmatic folk-pop idol crested commercially, if not artistically. Its immediate predecessor, Tea for the Tillerman, possesses an air of mystery and unforced whimsy that proved impossible for Stevens to replicate. That said, the singer-songwriter had it in him to pull together a captivating collection that boasted two of the biggest hits of his meteoric, if self-inhibited, career--"Peace Train" and the sublime hymn "Morning Has Broken." "The Wind," "If I Laugh," and "Moonshadow" are every bit as tuneful and appealing as the hits, while "Rubylove," "How Can I Tell You," and "Bitterblue" would be standouts on Stevens's less accomplished later albums. In fact, only the bellicose social statements "Changes IV" and "Tuesday's Dead" ring hollow. --Steven Stolder

Soothing Music That Enhances Recollection.......2007-07-30
This is an extraordinary musical and lyrical work of art and unlike anything I've ever heard before. It's amazing what Cat Stevens could convey with one strum or pluck of his guitar. Well, multiply that times a thousand or more and you've got some great pieces of music. Not to mention his vocalizations and heartfelt, thoughtful, moving lyrics. That doubles the ingredients for a once in a lifetime masterpiece album known as Teaser and the Firecat. I should also mention that Rick Wakeman (of YES fame) made a guest appearance with some wonderful contributions on piano during the song "Morning Has Broken". I was "oh (so) very young" when this album first came out in late '71 but I remember some songs and they brought back memories in special ways (as only Cat Steven's songs can do). So, if you like even one note from one song you've heard by Cat Stevens in the past, that's reason enough to pick up this CD (if you don't already have it).
MOVING SPIRTUAL MELODIES.......2007-07-29
DESPITE WHAT PEOPLE HAVE COME TO THINK ABOUT THIS MAN, HIS MUSIC SHOWS COMPLETE HONESTY, SOUL SEARCHING, AND MOST OF ALL PRAISE AND LOVE TO THE HEAVENLY FATHER! YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THAT. VERY MELODIC AND MOVING. GET IT, IF YOU LIKE MELODY AND ACCOUSTIC GUITAR!
The Cat.......2007-05-14
I think the Cd digitally remastered was done very good. Thank you!
Sincerely John M. Casias
thanks Yusuf/Cat Stevens for coming back for us!.......2007-01-13
Recently I purchased Yusuf's new CD and after listening to this, I needed to purchase the CD versions of Cat Stevens' Teaser and the Firecat plus Tea for the Tillerman. I had the albums from 70s and just had to have the CDs now. People are quite happy that Yusuf/Cat Stevens decided to come back into the music business. Such an extraordinary voice that we have missed for 20+ years. I cannot thank Yusuf/Cat Stevens enough for once again sharing his talen with the world. Everybody should own one of his CDs if not more.
Wonderful Music, Wonderful Memories.......2007-01-05
The music of Cat Stevens inspired my college days and I find his compositions still inspirational today. Songs of love, loss and spirituality are sung with emotion and the unique, sensual, voice of this British singer/songwriter.

Album Description
After performing in a variety of bands since the late '60s, Bolin finally released his first solo album in 1975. Teaser is an impressive display of the guitarist's prowess & range, & is a natural progression from the previous Bolin-dominated James Gang albums Bang & Miami & his work with drummer Billy Cobham. The album features heavy doses of jazz-rock fusion (furthered by guests Jan Hammer, Dave Sanborn, & Michael Walden) in the instrumentals 'Homeward Strut' & 'Marching Powder', & straight-ahead rock in tracks like 'The Grind'. Bolin was always equally adept at subtleties, & the ballad 'Dreamer' & the exotic 'Savannah Woman' (with percussion from Phil Collins) represent this stylistic range here. Overshadowed historically by his guitar dynamics, Bolin's understated yet strong vocals are another selling point. Teaser is a stronger album than its one successor, the uneven Private Eyes, & survives as Bolin's signature work Sony/Japan. 1997.
Album Details
1975 Solo Album from the Late Session Guitarist and Former James Gang and Deep Purple Member. Bolin's Guitar Playing was Truly Remarkable, but his Life was Cut Short by his Inability to Kick Drugs. This Debut Solo Album Leaned More to his Jazz Rock Side (It was Released on Nemperor Records) but Still Has Rock Licks A-plenty. A Guitarist's Essential Disc to Learn From.
Customer Reviews:
Great collection for my life.......2007-01-21
I couldn't define Tommy Bolin's music because he's song including everything, rock, jazz, blues and so on. He's not only great guitar player but also great singer, I think. I mostly love 'Savannah Women' in this album.
I live in Korea and the reason I bought this one via Amazon was that there were no this CD available in every record shop in Korea in regardless of online and offline. As well as, I tried to find it in Amazon Japan but there wasn't.
I really thank you for Amaozon to let me have this CD safely.
Super Service!!.......2007-01-12
Great seller, item arrived on time and in the condition stated in the item description. I highly recommend this seller. A+++++
Signature Work.......2006-12-20
After performing in a variety of bands, such as Deep Purple and with Billy Cobham; Bolin Releases "Teaser", to be followed by "Private eyes" and dying shortly after that second release.
This album features heavy doses of Jazz-Rock fusion mixed with Bolin's singing which proved to be a great selling point at that time. (I am amazed that this album sold well at that time. I think this release was way ahead of that period)
Listening to this album today is a pure delight; Beautiful songs, very nicely arranged, putting this album high on my today's favorites in my personal CD collection.
Highly recommended, especially for the music collectors and lovers of that genre.
Not Forgotten.......2006-06-22
If you have never listened to any of Tommy Bolin's music this is the way to start. The melody of wild dogs is haunting, from the first time I heard it in the mid 70's to the present it stays the test of time and seems as fresh and vital as it did 30 years ago.Teaser is the essence of Bolin's spirit and makes you wonder if he were here today how much he would have influenced todays music...
Class.Pure Class........2005-09-01
Teaser and Tommy Bolin defy categorisation.
Teaser was released on Nemperor which was a subsidiary of Columbia and usually housed jazz and experimental pieces.
The fact Tommy's album appeared through this label gives an indication of the scope and chameleon like playing of this American Guitar icon.
Tommy had by the time of this solo effort had played and explored more styles and been involved in more astonishing grounbreaking albums such as Billy Cobham's Spectrum,Alphonse Mouzon's Mind Transplant,Deep Purple's wrongly maligned Come Taste The Band along with Energy,Zephyr, and many other great pieces that showcased his guitar playing brilliance and lyrical intelligence along with a voice that really spoke to the listener, that many Artists could hope to ever achieve.
Teaser could no doubt have been better, but Tommy was onboard the Purple juggernaut at the time of it's release and dedicated as much time as he could to the album.
The highlights are many and the fact that Tommy was 24-25 at the time of this release is astonishing in retrospect.
Of course it is obvious i am a Bolin fan but i would strongly advise anyone to grab this album and start a discovery of if not the finest truly an American and world wide guitar genius who unfortunately passed on too soon but left behind a brilliant and truly impressive catalogue both in scope and quality to delve into.
Ian.

Customer Reviews:
Every song matters, every song is excellent..his best ever!!.......2005-07-24
I got this cd when it was first released because of "Morning has broken", one of the most beatiful songs and a big hit many years ago. But, to my taste, "How can i tell you" is the best SONG here. It is beatifully played, very delicate and moving singing by Cat Stevens. It is a song, that should be a classic and if someday a singer with good taste can redone it, i hope could be a smash, so the entire world can hear this song. Also great ones are "Changes" (a song that has been covered by other artists), and of course Moonshadow and Peace Train.
"Teaser and the Firecat" finds Cat Stevens at the high of his artistic powers and inspiration. Alun Davies was Cat Stevens guitar player and also his musical partner (but he never got credited). He died many years ago, and he recorded a couple of solo albums that are still waiting for release. Very sad.
He can't escape............2004-09-26
Although I respect fully Yusuf Islam just the way he is now, I can't get over the fact that CAT STEVENS recorded this album. Ok, it was many years ago, but it is one of the greatest. There is no escaping the fact that this man recorded this album. He can call himself whatever he chooses...the spirit is still there, whatever he chooses to call himself.
This is a fantastic album.
Enjoy it, with every space of your soul.
Written From The Soul.......2000-03-08
Its rare that these days, artists write music from the heart and soul. Usually todays musicians write music that fits a pre-set formula(which usuallu involves a hip-hop beat) to get played on MTV.
This record was recorded back in the seventies when music was honest and natural. Sort of like Chocolate Chip Cookies. The Wind while short in length, delivers a good message about lsitening to your true voice. If I Laugh deals with human emotions and dreams. Morning Has Broken paints such a beautiful picture of life complimented by gorgeous piano runs. I could go on and on but this is a nice recording that will make you think about life in simple ways that are not often thought about in this hectic world that we live in.
whole wheat flour and carob chip cookies.......1999-09-24
This album came out when I was five and it never left my older sisters' (and parents) turntable. I just bought it and its not leaving mine. Its a complete flashback to those awfull carob and whole wheat chocolate chip cookies of the early 70's, I'm in heaven. Oh and if your into the whole Elephant 6 / Neutral Milk Hotel scene, forget about the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds as an influence, this is it!
If you don't have this one, get it........1999-07-31
I personally will never understand why "If I Laugh" was not more popular than it was. Must've struck a chord with me as a teen, I guess! All in all a fantastic album.

or even faster pussycat. But there's only 3 of them that's what amazing.
But if you get a chance buy this !!!
All Killer No Filler.......2006-03-01
This Disc kicks booty from start to finish, it's a classic early 80's glam metal sound, but still fresh in it's own way, similar to early Motley/Ratt but a lil heavier. What sets this band apart from others trying to do similar is that these guys can actually play and well!! killer Guitar solos!! If you like hard glam this album is a must!!
If You Like Ratt and L.A. Glam.......2005-12-14
These guys blend the look of Pretty Boy Floyd with a sound that's like a glamier version of Ratt. They are an awsome band and ever thought they only started in 1998 they sound as thought they started in 1988. Check them out they are awsome.

Getting better all the time.......2006-11-08
I ordered Teaser first, originally, but due to an error I lost it and went for Whips and Roses instead. Not one for 10 minute long jamming guitar solos I was slow to appreciate Tommy's style. Later, I found Teaser on sale in a store and picked it up. I was not impressed at first because the recording level was lower than Whips and Roses and just didn't do the album justice. But after giving it a good number of listens on the headphones I think I have started to see what others claim Tommy Bolin had.
Basically, this is a seventies rock album. It didn't stand out for me from the scores of other rock albums of the same period but I will say that I have come to like it quite a lot. It is mostly commercial sounding though interesting in its variety of styles, including jazz, blues, reggae and hard rock. His singing is surprisingly good and he's impressive on Dreamer and Wild Dogs, though I heard Glenn Hughes guests on Dreamer so the best vocals are actually Hughes. What impressed me the most is Tommy's style of guitar playing. It is unique. I can understand how it is people praise him as a brilliant guitarist. He attempts many sounds and effects without sounding like Jeff Beck and can play some tricky licks as well.
Bolin Brilliance.......2006-10-20
I find it extremely puzzling that some reviewers have opted to open the martyrdom and overhyped tags on Tommy Bolin.
Here is a guitarist who is by most people largely unknown even today.
American listeners especially should embrace this special talent and enjoy the great playing by a man who on the evidence of this album alone deserves to be listened to.
Please do yourself a great favour and embrace Tommy and Teaser,it could even open doors to more of his groundbreaking work for you.
Why do think it is now selling for $35.00$.......2005-08-22
Who ever the IDIOT was that said it was a poor mix needs to realize it was done in 1975! Tommy Bolin was SO far ahead of his time! Get a friggin* clue Chief! You find me one band today that has his talent and I'll gladly buy you a cold beer!
Take it for what it's worth... great lyrics and even better guitar!
A fuzzy snapshot of a great talent.......2005-02-15
I love this album, but on both the album & the CD's (I have bought 2 different releases hoping for a better mix, but have been dissapointed with both)the mixing, not the performance (which is stellar)really leaves a lot ot be desired. Not that it's unlistenable, I play it often, but in this day and age of better techology, I'm sure we could get a better version. But even if it never happens, it's still a great album and better than most stuff out there today. Timeless!!!!
Deeply flawed.... but still enchanting!.......2004-05-12
Firstly, ever since this album was issued in 1975 it has had very loyal and fanatical support - so what I have to say below will not be very popular!
Although having good/great songwriting and singing, this album is sometimes let down by sloppy playing, pitiful mixing and poor quality control during the final stages of its production...
Dare I suggest that history is rewritten and it is given to someone trustworthy like Ken Scott to oversee a remix which would give it a well needed final polish to reveal all of its true beauty (instead of the chaotic and erratic fader riding during mixdown which buries so much of the detail and introduces some harsh distortion which leaps out at you...). It sounds to my ears like the volume in the studio control room was so loud that they were trying to bounce sound off of planets, got excited and lost contact with any possibility of objective listening analysis on Earth...!!!
I know I sound like a technical spoilsport anorak (or perhaps a mad professor) but I personally always prefer to go for the 'take' and 'feel' rather than 'iron any soul' out of the performance by aiming for total accuracy and perfection. I feel this album goes beyond that in places.
That said, there is nothing to replace it with... It is a very warm and likeable collection of songs and perhaps because the VU meters were frequently off the scale etc it may be even more endearing (especially considering the sad circumstances surrounding Tommy Bolin).
I expect you can guess that I have a love/hate relationship with this album!

Brings Back Good Memories.......2006-03-25
My father was a big Angela Bofill fan in the 80's and he played "Teaser" constantly when I was four back in '83. I have vivid memories of "Your a Special Part of Me" and "Gotta Make it Up To You". Some twenty plus years latter those are still my favorite tracks on this album, as no one can pull a song together like Bofill. Like most of her Arista recordings this one has a lot of dance tracks that definitely show their age. Yet any Bofill fan will appreciate this effort for and most of the songs it produced. Ms. Bofill had a stroke in Jan '06, and I am sure that her legions of fans are hoping for her recovery her livelihood, and so she may sing again.
What A Tease..........2003-09-23
The production is slick. The dance tunes very much reflect the early 80's dance/pop/r&b era where an R&B artist would blend or meld some pop in the mix to crossover. Some tracks will have a Whitney Houston debut foreboding characteristic since Preston Glass and Narada Michael-Walden produced hits for various Arista artists of the time....Nothing wrong with that, but much of the "soulfullness" is compromised in some of the tunes for generic Flashdance dance tracks. The best tunes are the slow to mid tempo lushly produced ballads. The combination of Bofill's voice and polished electronic sounds create an unforgettable atmosphere or ambiance ! Basically, it's in the rich hooks and catchiness of a few tracks that make the listener hope the entire concept or sound would be carried out...wrong. Teaser is just a tease, and a good one at that.
Buy it if only for "I'm On Your Side"........2003-06-14
While "I'm On Your Side" became a classic ballad, the rest of this album is quite disappointing in comparison to both "Something About You" and "Too Tough" because the dance tracks (which are more on the dance-rock side than R&B) are very much overproduced and lack distinction. Angela's incredible duet with Johnny Mathis ("You're A Special Part Of Me") is simply wonderful, however, and (had it been properly promoted and released as a single) may have been just what Angela needed to reach the mainstream pop market.
A true fan of angela's work!!!.......2001-08-30
I became a fan when my supervisor let me listen to her 'Angel of the Night album.I was captivated by her voice.I started buying previous albums,I was hooked!!! Her lyrics touched my heart. I loved,Your're a special part of me. I love Angela's slower ballards. I AM A TRUE FAN 4 LIFE!!!
an album with slow classics.......2001-02-24
Angela Bofill is beautiful, talented & a legend. I don't have this album on cd, but i do have it on vinyl. I'm not feelin' the up tempo songs, the love songs are what make this record stand out. Even though "I'M ON YOUR SIDE" was a chart topper, my two favorite tracks were "YOU'RE A SPECIAL PART OF ME" (w/Johnny Mathis) & "GOTTA MAKE IT UP TO YOU" make this album the classic that it is. A true Bofill fan will have this record despite it's few flaws.

Whitesnake's guitarplayers roots.......1998-11-01
Adrian Vandenberg is WHITESNAKES (David Coverdale!) current guitarplayer on the "Restless Heart" CD. Most people know that he led his own Dutch outfit in the early eighties: VANDENBERG, who made 3 albums (smash hit: Burning Heart). However, only a few people know that in the late seventies he recorded an album of originals with his first band: TEASER. This album is now available on CD. The songs on the album are heavily influenced by FREE and BAD COMPANY. Not in the least because of singer extraordinaire Jos Veldhuyzen's bluesy and soulful contributions. Outstanding tracks are: What you need is love, Do it to me, Ride on train, I sold my soul to the rock and roll. TEASER only made one album before the band split. If you like the vocals than look for album's by Dutch Blues outfit FLAVIUM, where Jos Veldhuyzen has been singing for the last years. Teaser: Classic Dutch Seventies Rock!
