no metal collection will garner respect without a Rage album somewhere among its slabs of molten metal. German speed metal pioneers with great melodies. thinking mans metal . who can forget such euro-metal staples like don't fear the winter, higher than the sky, down and refuge. Speed metal at its finest.......2004-05-06

Most fans of Rage probably wouldn't recognize this album if they heard it without knowing who it was. Rage's first album is so incredibly different from what they've done over the years that it really is hard to believe that it's them. But, it most definitely is and it's incredible as usual. This is great speed metal stuff with a thrashy twist. Jorg Michael's presence on this album is what makes it particularly great. The combination of Jorg and "Peavy" almost makes this album too much fun. However, because they were so young back then their music hadn't quite developed the sophistication that it has today. Do NOT listen to this album expecting to hear the virtuoso recordings that these performers are delivering today, just listen to it and enjoy a great metal album.

The best early Rage album.......2004-02-03

This album is pure fury, unleashed from beginning to end. I only wish Peavy had the more mature and agreesive growl he developed much later on. Then this album would truly be a sinister piece of metal art.

Leaps and bounds better than its early brother album (Execution Guaranteed), and much better than their third album (Perfect Man, which had more success here in the States). As I mentioned on the "Secrets in A Weird World" review, these two are the standout gems in the early Rage repertoir, only to be rivalled much later by Black in Mind and End of All Days.

Reign of Fear does have a few standout tracks, but should be listened to in its entirety. Some of my favorites are: Suicide, Chaste Flesh, Hand of Glory, Machinery (especially the last half of the song), Deceiver, and others.

Scaffold was not on the original recording, and only put on when this album was cut to CD in the late 80's/early 90's. It is a great song, but more epic and moddy than the rest of the album. I ahve not heard any of the new re-issue tracks (mostly live, I believe).

One of the top four or five Rage albums to have.
